After Transmigrating Into a Book, I Became That Omega - Chapter 6
When Sang Yuan returned to the dorm, he was surprisingly the first one back. He tossed his issued military training uniform into the washing machine and headed into the bathroom for a shower.
The moment Ji Tang entered, he caught a faint whiff of orange soda in the air. Hearing the sound of water and muffled humming from the bathroom, he knew Sang Yuan was inside.
He didn’t think much of it. Seeing a clean set of uniforms in the washer, he conveniently hung them up for Sang Yuan before throwing his own in.
Humming a little tune and drying his hair, Sang Yuan stepped out of the bathroom to find Ji Tang sitting at his desk reading. The lamp light hit the sharp angles of Ji Tang’s face, softening his cold demeanor slightly.
“Oh, Ji Tang, you’re back?” Sang Yuan casually hung up his towel, a clean fragrance still clinging to him.
“Mm.” Ji Tang looked up at him, a trace of confusion in his eyes. “Did you buy soda on your way back? Why do you smell like orange soda all over?”
Sang Yuan’s hand froze. He had forgotten again how sensitive Alphas were to Omega pheromones.
“Uh, yeah, I spilled some soda on myself on the way back. Ended up covered in the stuff.” Sang Yuan laughed it off, his fingers surreptitiously brushing against the back of his neck.
Thankfully, the suppression patch was still firmly in place. He figured the water from the shower must have caused a tiny bit of the scent to leak out. The ad for these patches claimed they lasted six months even with water, provided they weren’t peeled off. Clearly, there’s a bit of false advertising involved, but not too much.
He decided he’d better start carrying a bottle of actual orange soda with him. Fortunately, his pheromone scent was common enough to fake.
“Ah, you helped me hang my clothes? Thanks, man!” Sang Yuan leaned over the balcony and flashed Ji Tang a brilliant smile.
Ji Tang paused, retracted his gaze, and focused back on his book. “No problem. Just a convenience.”
Seeing Ji Tang focused on his studies, Sang Yuan didn’t push further. He sat down at his own desk and opened the textbooks he had received earlier. He needed to familiarize himself with the material quickly to avoid becoming the first transmigrator to fail out of school—that would be a true embarrassment.
Most of the Literature curriculum involved history. Looking at “Contemporary Literary History” and “Ancient Literary History,” Sang Yuan was utterly lost. He flipped through them. Great, I haven’t heard of a single one of these people.
He wanted to cry. Why did I choose Literature? My hands must have been itching for trouble.
However, he had one saving grace: a decent memory.
When Luo Xinghe and Liu Tiancheng returned to the dorm, they found the other two reading at their desks. The atmosphere was unexpectedly harmonious.
“I say, you guys are too intense!” Liu Tiancheng tossed his books onto his desk, looking at the two studious roommates with admiration. “It’s only the first day of school, and we start a month of military training tomorrow. Is the ‘academic grind’ starting already?”
“You’re back?” Sang Yuan looked up and smiled. “I had nothing else to do, so I figured I’d look ahead so I don’t fall behind once classes actually start.”
Ji Tang nodded at them and went back to his book.
“I’m gonna go shower. Have to get up early tomorrow, and my teacher can really talk.” Liu Tiancheng grabbed his clothes and dashed into the bathroom.
Sang Yuan looked at Luo Xinghe. “Aren’t you and Ji Tang in the same class? How come he’s been back for a while and you’re just getting in?”
“The counselor had me organize things for tomorrow.” Luo Xinghe smiled helplessly. Ji Tang was supposed to be the Class Monitor, but after he refused, the job fell to Luo Xinghe.
“Good thing the Literature Department is small,” Sang Yuan joked.
The Astronomy Department had Alphas, Betas, and Omegas, and a high enrollment count. Just organizing their housing was likely a headache for Luo Xinghe.
“It can’t be helped. Astronomy has always been a popular major,” Luo Xinghe said as he put his and Liu Tiancheng’s uniforms into the wash.
Liu Tiancheng showered quickly. Once he was out, Luo Xinghe went in. Lights-out was approaching, and they needed to catch as much sleep as possible before the early start.
At 11:00 PM, the lights went out. Sang Yuan put away his books and hopped into bed. His bed was adjacent to Ji Tang’s. He found a comfortable spot and fell asleep instantly. When Ji Tang climbed into his own bed, Sang Yuan was already out.
On their first night in the dorm, the two slept feet-to-feet.
At 5:30 AM, Sang Yuan opened his eyes precisely on time. The dorm was silent; his roommates were still asleep. He climbed down quietly, washed up, and left the building.
He had scoped out the campus on his first day. He headed straight for the athletic field and began his daily workout. Just as he finished his first warm-up lap, he saw Ji Tang entering the field.
“Oh, Ji Tang? You come here to run too?” Sang Yuan was surprised. He didn’t expect to have a roommate who shared his early-morning habits.
“Mm,” Ji Tang nodded.
“That’s great! We can run together from now on.” Sang Yuan smiled. Finding a kindred spirit in the dorm was a happy coincidence.
“Okay,” Ji Tang replied and began running alongside him.
After forty minutes, Sang Yuan stopped. He had things to do today; normally, he’d run for at least an hour.
“Let’s head back. We need to eat before the 7:00 AM assembly,” Sang Yuan suggested. Ji Tang agreed and they walked back together.
After showering and changing into their military uniforms, they headed to the cafeteria. They skipped the “internet-famous” Second Cafeteria and chose the Fifth Cafeteria, which was closest to their dorm.
Inside, Sang Yuan spotted Luo Xinghe and Liu Tiancheng. He greeted them and went with Ji Tang to get food. Breakfast was a meal that had to be substantial, so Sang Yuan piled his tray high. As an Alpha, Ji Tang’s appetite was naturally large as well.
The two sat down next to Luo and Liu with their mountain of food.
“I really admire you two. Studying last night and running this morning?” Liu Tiancheng shook his head with a sigh. “Military training starts today, and you still have the energy for a run.”
“We might not start actual training today, right?” Sang Yuan blinked, his mouth full of fried rice.
Liu Tiancheng gave him a “you’re so naive” look. “According to reliable sources, we start training the moment we hit the base.”
Sang Yuan nodded, only half-understanding. He wasn’t afraid of training—in fact, he was itching for it. He was actually quite looking forward to it.
