After Transmigrating into a Book, I Became the Vicious Female Supporting Lead - Chapter 24
For a moment, Lin Qiyan connected the dots to what happened this morning. She felt a bit suspicious—surely it couldn’t be such a coincidence?
When school let out in the evening, Lin Qiyan went to the milk tea shop as usual, followed by Nan Dan, who was acting all “sneaky”—clearly wanting to strike up a conversation but not quite daring to.
At the same time as last night, Mu Yunge arrived again, bringing Tang Ziqian with her. Nan Dan had already managed to look at their harmonious interaction with a calm expression… Like hell he did!! How on earth did Lin Qiyan get mixed up with these two?!
Mu Yunge’s spirits weren’t high. She sat in a corner that didn’t draw much attention, propping her forehead with one hand and watching Lin Qiyan absentmindedly. Tang Ziqian ordered a milk tea and sat across from Mu Yunge.
“Yunge, why are you being so nice to her?”
“You didn’t actually fall for her, did you?”
Mu Yunge ignored her. Tang Ziqian immediately followed up by refuting her own thought: “Probably not. Would someone like you actually like an Omega?”
Mu Yunge: “…”
The sky outside turned a deep navy blue. When Lin Qiyan finished her shift and said goodbye to Nan Yu, the three of them walked back together—mostly because Tang Ziqian was dying of curiosity to see what kind of place was so attractive to Mu Yunge.
The dragon-like night market was still ablaze with lights. Although it was close to the school, Tang Ziqian had never been here before. She looked at the food on both sides with novelty; the mixed scents of barbecue and various snacks formed a unique fragrance.
Lin Qiyan paid special attention to the spot where she had seen the girl from her front row. Surprisingly, there was no one there. Mu Yunge followed her gaze, but she was too drowsy to think.
[Is there a high chance that the mother and daughter who were being shouted at this morning are the ones being bullied by the original owner?]
Mu Yunge tilted her head slightly. Lin Qiyan merely felt a bit of regret but didn’t take any further action. Tang Ziqian walked over carrying various bags of food, still munching on a skewer.
“What’s up? Why are we standing here?”
Lin Qiyan turned to look at her and was momentarily startled, but before she could speak, another commotion broke out. The three of them looked toward the sound.
The middle-aged man from this morning was standing in the middle of the crowded street, clutching a woman’s sleeve. He was acting humble and submissive: “Meihong, it was my fault. Please forgive me. I was possessed. When I finally found you yesterday and heard some gossip, I just couldn’t control myself. It’s only because I care about you too much, Meihong. You know we were childhood sweethearts.”
The woman Lin Qiyan had seen at the snack stall sobbed as she tried to pull her sleeve away. “What’s the use? Can you stop gambling and drinking? Don’t you know why the two of us have to move so often? You always say these things.”
A large crowd had gathered. Seeing that the woman was softening, the man hurried to pledge his loyalty: “It’s my fault. I’ll definitely change. Meihong, you know I can’t live without you.”
Lin Qiyan couldn’t stand to listen much longer. She glanced to the side and saw a girl standing in the shadows. It was her front-row neighbor, still wearing those glasses that covered half her face. Her fists were clenched tightly under her faded long sleeves.
“Isn’t that the girl who bumped into me back then?” Tang Ziqian suddenly leaned in and said.
Lin Qiyan was puzzled. “What?”
Mu Yunge, standing beside her, looked weary. Tang Ziqian continued, “I was walking just fine when she suddenly turned around and ran back for some reason. She spilled her soy milk all over me.”
Lin Qiyan: “That’s a bit tragic.”
Tang Ziqian: “Tell me about it.”
She took a sorrowful bite of a piece of fish tofu, completely wasting her beautiful face. Her aloof and cold aura had vanished entirely.
Lin Qiyan turned her head away. The middle-aged man was still playing the “pity” card. “Meihong, I won’t do anything to hurt you ever again. I swear.” He even raised his hand solemnly toward the sky. “If I go back to my old ways, let heaven strike me down with five bolts of lightning, and may I only be reincarnated as a beast for all eternity.”
The woman wiped her tears. “Remember what you said. If there is a next time, I won’t forgive you.”
Someone in the crowd couldn’t take it and shouted, “Sister, don’t listen to his nonsense! For a guy like this, no matter how many chances you give him, he won’t cherish them. You and your daughter will only suffer more.”
“Exactly! Divorce him early for some peace of mind. Besides, you can support yourself now. Why stay with a man who only knows how to live off a woman?”
The man turned purple with rage and roared, “Is this any of your business?! It’s a family matter; it’s not for you ‘grandsons’ to discuss. Better to destroy ten temples than break one marriage! You just don’t want to see others do well, do you?”
“Hey, how are you talking? Keep your mouth clean! A guy like you should be secretly happy you even have a marriage to go home to, yet here you are barking. If you’re so sorry, where was this attitude before?”
The man’s temper exploded. He glared at the person in the crowd, pointing a finger: “You f-ing turtle-son, say that one more time?”
The other guy was also a tough nut. “I said it, so what? A dreg of society like you should be rotting in a cell. The air quality is bad enough these days; you standing here makes it impossible to breathe.”
The man’s features distorted. He shoved through the crowd and threw a punch. Instantly, the street fell into chaos. The woman hurried to pull the man back, but the “macho” middle-aged man shoved her aside, lunging forward to give the other guy a piece of his mind.
Wang Meihong was thrown to the ground. There were so many people crowding and running that no one noticed a woman lying on the floor, and people inevitably trampled over her. The girl immediately ran over to help her mother, but she was pushed further and further away by the flow of people, leaving her frantic.
Wang Meihong tried her best to stand up, but someone would always knock her back down. Worried about her husband and daughter, she could only lie on the ground in agony as people stepped on her. Just as her heart felt bitter and her nose grew sharp with the urge to cry, a hand supported her arm and pulled her up.
Wang Meihong thanked the person repeatedly. She looked up and saw a sweet-looking girl. She froze for a moment. Tang Ziqian and Mu Yunge were tall and, being Alphas, were able to resist the force of the crowd.
The three of them led Wang Meihong to an open area, and before long, the daughter found them. The girl froze when she saw Lin Qiyan, instinctively wanting to back away, but after a reminder from her mother, she bowed her head and thanked them timidly.
Lin Qiyan shook her head slightly. “You’re welcome.”
Eventually, someone called the police, and the brawlers were taken to the station. After the facts were sorted out, the man was inevitably going to be detained for a few days. In the spirit of humanitarianism, Lin Qiyan and the others escorted Wang Meihong home.
The girl stood at the door and said thank you again, her hand on the doorknob trembling slightly. Lin Qiyan thought of the things she had heard earlier and wanted to offer a few words of advice, but she felt she shouldn’t interfere in someone else’s family matters. Finally, she let out a small sigh and let it go. Tang Ziqian noticed the girl didn’t recognize her and tactfully didn’t mention the past encounter.
By the time everything was finished and they returned home, it was already past 11:00 PM. After all the commotion, Tang Ziqian had lost interest in looking for more “drama”—she had seen more than enough for one night.
After getting everything ready, Lin Qiyan climbed into bed. Mu Yunge was already fast asleep. She smiled gently, turned off the light, and fell into a deep sleep as well. The moonlight was soft and bright.
