After Transmigrating into a Book, I Became the Vicious Female Supporting Lead - Chapter 28
In the dry August summer air, the soft morning sunlight fell scattered across the ground.
The cinema was near the city center. It was a weekend, and the streets were busy, with the shade of trees along the roads swaying gently in the breeze. As the largest cinema in Yanjing, the film’s production team had booked out the entire venue for the premiere. The spacious, bright lobby was packed with people—journalists carrying equipment, fans, and wealthy young masters and ladies from high society.
Mu Yunge’s status was prominent; even when keeping a low profile, she still attracted many gazes. However, the coldness on her face was enough to keep people at a distance; few were bold enough to approach and risk her displeasure.
The two stood by a window, Mu Yunge resting her hands on the railing. She wore casual clothes today with her hair in a half-high ponytail, looking both cool and sharp.
“There are so many people here, it’s really lively.”
Lin Qiyan turned her head and spotted an acquaintance. Tang Ziqian was holding a cup of milk tea, sipping it intermittently. When their eyes met, she gave a token crinkle of her eyes.
Mu Yunge swept a lazy glance over her.
Lin Qiyan asked in confusion, “Why are you here?”
Tang Ziqian set her milk tea down on a nearby glass coffee table and frowned slightly. “This milk tea is terrible.”
Lin Qiyan: “…”
She looked at the tea, which had less than half a cup left, and fell silent.
Moving the milk tea even further away, Tang Ziqian finally answered the question by tilting her chin. “You’ll have to ask that ‘scum Alpha’ next to you.”
Lin Qiyan: “??”
Mu Yunge lifted her eyelids to look over.
Tang Ziqian complained, “I went through so much trouble to get these tickets and asked her if she wanted to go. In the end, ‘Mu the Scumbag’ just took both tickets away.” She wore a resentful expression. “My original plan was that if you didn’t go, I’d invite some other little Omega. Instead, you not only hijacked my tickets but also plagiarized my plan.”
Mu Yunge: “…”
Lin Qiyan reached out a hand like the “Erkang” meme: “Wait, this so-called ‘plagiarized plan’ involving a little Omega… is referring to…”
Tang Ziqian wore a face that said, “What kind of nonsense are you talking? Who else could it be but you?”
Lin Qiyan: “…”
She shouldn’t have asked.
Their position was relatively secluded, but there were still plenty of people stealing glances.
Tang Ziqian’s eyes wandered around out of boredom before suddenly lighting up. “Yunge, look over there. Shen Ji brought his lover.”
Behind layers of people, a fairly clean-cut young man had his arm around someone’s waist, leaning down to flirt as if no one else was there. The person in his arms was also a man; he looked up and seemed to whisper something in Shen Ji’s ear, making Shen Ji laugh and kiss him on the forehead.
The person raised a hand half-heartedly to block him, turning his head slightly in a “reluctant yet willing” manner as Shen Ji kissed him, a lingering smile on his lips. This move happened to reveal his face.
Tang Ziqian was surprised at first, then exchanged a look with Mu Yunge and stated the person’s identity: “Shen Yangsheng.”
Since the surnames were the same, Lin Qiyan was wondering what their relationship was when Tang Ziqian pulled out her phone to take a photo, teasing: “Playing this big? Is a hotel not exciting enough? They have to do it in front of everyone to feel something.”
Despite her words, the two were actually in a corner and had their backs to the crowd, so they weren’t easy to spot. Tang Ziqian looked down at the two on her screen, smiling mischievously as she saved the photo. “Yunge, what do you think Shen Youguang’s reaction would be if he found out his two sons had hooked up together?”
Lin Qiyan gave her a startled look.
Mu Yunge hooked a stray hair behind Lin Qiyan’s ear to tidy it, her voice calm. “Naturally, it wouldn’t be as fun as letting Shen Yanru find out.”
Tang Ziqian shot her a side-eye. “As expected, when it comes to being wicked, you’re the expert.”
Just then, it was announced that the movie was starting and it was time for ticket inspection. Seeing the confusion in Lin Qiyan’s eyes, Mu Yunge withdrew her hand and smiled slightly. “Yan Yan, the movie is starting. Let’s go.”
Lin Qiyan looked back at Tang Ziqian, who had sat down on a sofa at some point and was lazily waving her off while leaning on the armrest.
The interior was vast, with luxurious lighting illuminating the space. The two found their connected seats. Mu Yunge didn’t hesitate; she went in first and sat in the seat slightly to the left, with Lin Qiyan beside her.
After sitting, Lin Qiyan glanced around; the theater was basically packed, and it seemed only the seat to her right was empty. After a series of tedious opening segments, the lights flickered out, and the room went dark, leaving only the cold light emitted from the screen.
Just as the movie entered the main feature and the surround sound began to boom, her neighbor finally arrived. Lin Qiyan glanced over casually, looked away, then suddenly froze and looked again.
The newcomer was expressionless, his eyes very dark under a baseball cap. He gave Lin Qiyan a quick nod. Lin Qiyan returned the greeting politely.
Mu Yunge, sensing movement to her left, shifted her gaze over. She looked at him with complete indifference before looking away listlessly.
Knowing Xia Yiran’s goal, part of Lin Qiyan’s attention stayed on him. His appearance here was a bit too coincidental. Considering his identity, Lin Qiyan was glad Mu Yunge was sitting on the inner side.
The movie had been going for a while, and seeing that Xia Yiran wasn’t doing anything, Lin Qiyan relaxed and began to enjoy the film Tang Ziqian had originally planned to use for “wooing an Omega.”
Shadows flickered on the massive screen; the protagonist looked sharp, and the fight scenes were satisfying. The cold light reflected in Mu Yunge’s eyes, making them look even deeper. She propped her chin on her hand, her gaze wandering.
The movie itself wasn’t particularly outstanding, but because the cast and director were famous and the marketing was well-done, expectations were high. After watching, Lin Qiyan felt a bit let down. Aside from those factors, the plot was weak. It forced a sentimental ending—tragedy for tragedy’s sake—where a misunderstanding leads one protagonist to kill the other, only to drink poisoned wine at the grave and die for love.
The next part of the program was the lead actors and creators taking the stage to interact with the audience. Some excited fans held up light boards and shouted, “Big brother! I love you so much! Why did you have to die??”
The air went quiet for a second. The host laughed and smoothed things over: “This fan is a bit too immersed in the story. This just shows how incredible our lead’s acting is! Alright, let’s invite this excited fan onto the stage.”
A round of thunderous applause followed.
Mu Yunge had no interest in watching further. She turned her head and whispered, “Yan Yan, do you want to keep watching?”
Lin Qiyan shook her head. “Let’s head out. Tang Ziqian is still outside.”
Mu Yunge nodded. Xia Yiran also stood up and left his seat at this time.
The theater lighting was still dim. As they exited the tunnel, a bright, hot patch of sunlight was visible ahead. A hand covered her eyes gently. “Give it a moment.”
Lin Qiyan closed her eyes and waited for a second or two before the hand was lowered.
Walking out, she saw Tang Ziqian sitting on the sofa, a straw in her mouth, intermittently drinking the milk tea she had complained about earlier. She was scrolling through her phone. When the two approached, she looked up, set her drink aside, stretched, and stood up. “You’re out.”
Lin Qiyan: “Did you see Xia Yiran?”
Tang Ziqian looked at Mu Yunge. “Xia Yiran? He was here too? Is he actually interested in this movie?”
Mu Yunge arched a brow. “What do you think?”
Lin Qiyan quickly understood the logic and replied, “It must have been at the Shen family’s request.”
Leaving aside the fact that an average person wouldn’t be very interested in this movie, the tickets were also hard to get. Based on Xia Yiran’s own connections, it would have been impossible for him.
Tang Ziqian sneered. “Shen Yanru really has too much time on her hands. Her own house is a mess, yet her reach is still this long.”
Lin Qiyan only knew it was the Shens’ request, but she didn’t know specifically who it was. To put it bluntly, she didn’t even understand the basic interpersonal relationships of this book.
Mu Yunge lowered her eyelashes, her hand gently pressing on Lin Qiyan’s wrist. Her voice was emotionless. “She doesn’t want to let go of the Yin family or the Shen family, and she still wants to stick her hand into the Mu family. It’s only because Ye Qiutang is old and turning a blind eye to her.”
Tang Ziqian: “Both will be ruined by her sooner or later.”
Mu Yunge didn’t pick up that thread, only asking, “What time is it?”
Caught off guard by the sudden change in subject, Tang Ziqian blinked. “Eleven-thirty.”
Mu Yunge nodded and said gently to Lin Qiyan, “Yan Yan, are you hungry? What do you want to eat?”
Lin Qiyan: “Anything.”
Tang Ziqian chimed in from the side, “I know a place that’s pretty good. Let’s go.”
The noon sun was scorching; the asphalt road seemed to be steaming, and everyone on the street was holding an umbrella. The place the three went to was nearby.
The storefront looked fresh from the outside, with a “forest” vibe. Upon entering, a cool breeze mixed with a fresh fragrance enveloped them. The center of the lobby was open all the way to the roof, featuring a realistic, massive tree that required ten people to encircle it. Vines twisted and coiled around it, full of life. Surrounding the tree was a flowing stream decorated with bluestone and small flowers.
Small huts with thatched roofs were built near the water, one table per hut, encircling the tree. Directly facing the door was a small stone path leading to the base of the tree. Looking closely, the tree had stairs woven from withered vines, which one could climb to reach the second floor.
Lin Qiyan looked on in amazement once again.
A server stepped forward. Tang Ziqian pulled out a card, and the server immediately made an inviting gesture. “Please come to the second-floor private room to dine.”
Lin Qiyan watched as, led by the server, Tang Ziqian scrambled up to the second floor and poked her head out to call them. She turned her head: “Yunge, do you want to climb?”
Mu Yunge: “Yan Yan, what about you?”
The two looked at each other and took the elevator nearby with great tacit understanding. After meeting up on the second floor, Tang Ziqian mocked them: “This isn’t even high. Are you guys… afraid?”
Lin Qiyan said diplomatically, “Not exactly. We just aren’t very interested in ‘returning to our ancestral roots’.”
Tang Ziqian: “…”
Tang Ziqian turned to complain: “She called me a monkey.”
Mu Yunge: “Yan Yan is right.”
Tang Ziqian: “…”
After a flurry of ordering, the three sat comfortably opposite each other. Flower vines coiled around the edge of the ceiling, hanging down in large clusters like a tasseled curtain. Mu Yunge poured a glass of water for Lin Qiyan and placed it by her hand; Tang Ziqian consciously fended for herself.
Tang Ziqian’s gaze shifted, and a smile spread across her lips. “Look down there.”
Lin Qiyan followed her gaze. Xia Yiran was sitting in one of the huts on the first floor with several dishes in front of him. Mu Yunge took a slow, unhurried sip of water.
Tang Ziqian: “He really is dedicated.”
Mu Yunge leisurely swirled her teacup. “Shen Yanru wouldn’t trust him, so she naturally had to use some means to make him obedient.”
Lin Qiyan withdrew her gaze. “Ran Lie is here too.”
[How lively.]
Tang Ziqian craned her neck to look. “Where? Oh, in the back.” She pulled her head back and sighed. “Are they playing out a spy movie? They even used ‘shadowless tracking’.”
“Yunge, what do you plan to do?”
Mu Yunge shrugged. “Let them be. They can’t stir up any waves.”
Tang Ziqian nodded in agreement. “True. Keeping them under our eyes is a good way to see what they’ll do.”
As they spoke, the server arrived with the dishes and laid them out. Mu Yunge served Lin Qiyan first. “Yan Yan, try this. It’s quite good.”
Lin Qiyan: “Thanks, Yunge.”
Tang Ziqian snorted, served herself, and said, “Thanks, Ziqian.”
Lin Qiyan: “…”
[…She really is a character…]
Mu Yunge didn’t even lift her eyelids. “Tang Ziqian, if you don’t want to eat, get out.”
