After Transmigrating into a Book, I Became the Vicious Female Supporting Lead - Chapter 7
She stirred her milk tea and asked, as if merely making small talk, “Do you prefer As or Bs?”
Lin Qiyan was jolted back to her senses. She was dazed for a moment before realizing the other girl was referring to secondary genders (Alpha/Beta).
She said melancholically, “A or B are both fine.”
[As long as their primary sex is male… can I just not look for anyone?]
Lin Qiyan sighed again. Omegas have heat cycles; one can’t rely on suppressants for a lifetime—eventually, they must find an Alpha for a marking.
Her mind began to wander again.
[By the way, can the glands be surgically removed?]
Mu Yunge’s eyes curved slightly. “Do you like female Alphas?”
Lin Qiyan was puzzled. “Female Alphas?”
[Isn’t there something called a ‘final marking’? If it’s a female Alpha, how does that even work?]
Her thoughts branched out wildly, and she couldn’t resist stealing a glance under the table.
Mu Yunge rested her chin on her hand and let out a soft laugh. “Yes, female Alphas.”
Lin Qiyan didn’t know what she was laughing at. She gripped her spoon and stirred her milk tea, her tone airy. “Anything is fine, really.”
She threw the question back. “What about you, Yunge? What kind of person do you like?”
Mu Yunge lowered her eyes, looking disinterested. “It’s simple. Their appearance just needs to be on par with mine.”
Lin Qiyan clicked her tongue. “What a high bar.”
Mu Yunge’s answer had been perfunctory, so she simply followed up with a question: “Is it high?”
Lin Qiyan nodded repeatedly. “Very high. At the very least, I’ve never seen a second person who looks better than you.” After saying that, she added one more thing: “Regardless of gender.”
Mu Yunge’s fingers rubbed together imperceptibly. She looked up and smiled. “I think you look very good too, Yan Yan.”
Lin Qiyan was modest. “You flatter me, you flatter me.”
[I just got complimented by a world-class beauty!]
Mu Yunge’s lips twitched into a faint smile.
Lin Qiyan checked her phone; it was already lunchtime. “Yunge, what do you want to eat?”
Mu Yunge: “Anything.”
Lin Qiyan ran through the original owner’s memories in her head. “…”
She suggested, “How about we head back to school to eat?”
Mu Yunge saw through her embarrassment. “I know a place nearby that’s pretty good. My treat?”
Lin Qiyan was about to refuse.
Mu Yunge crinkled her eyes at her. “Consider it a thank you for helping me out last time.”
It was a private restaurant.
The seating was divided by bamboo screens and partitions. The center of the restaurant was open all the way to the roof, where sparse green bamboo stalks reached upward. In a small artificial waterfall, clear water tumbled steadily into a pool below, the crisp, gurgling sound echoing melodiously throughout the space.
On a terrace hidden behind a bamboo curtain at the far end, one could vaguely see the graceful silhouette of a young lady playing the guzheng. The music blended with the sound of the water, creating an even more soothing atmosphere.
Lin Qiyan had been to similar places in her previous life.
Upon entering, a server dressed in hanfu greeted them and led them to a private booth. The decor matched the exterior—dominated by green bamboo, one of the “Four Gentlemen” of flowers—making one feel as though they were in the middle of a forest. Unlike the round tables of ordinary restaurants, this place utilized antique-style scholar’s desks.
The two sat cross-legged opposite each other. The menu the server handed over was a scroll made of woven bamboo; you simply tapped an item to place an order. It was high-tech disguised as an ancient bamboo slip.
Lin Qiyan cast an amazed, “unrefined” look at the device.
Mu Yunge’s lips curled. She handed her bamboo scroll to Lin Qiyan, her eyes curving at the corners. “See if there’s anything you like.”
Lin Qiyan unfurled the entire scroll—it was about an arm’s length long, and the text was in Small Seal Script.
Her expression soured.
[…I can’t read this…]
Lin Qiyan calmly rolled the scroll back up. Just as she was about to hand it back, she saw the person opposite her stand up and kneel down right beside her.
A fresh fragrance wafted over. A voice rang out next to her ear.
“A lot of the dishes here are good, so it’s easy to get ‘decision paralysis.’ Let me introduce the specialties to you.”
Mu Yunge’s slender finger pointed to the first dish. “This is their signature—stir-fried fresh bamboo shoots. It involves dozens of ingredients and nearly a hundred steps in the process. The taste is quite good.”
“The second is the bamboo shoot soup. It’s clear and sweet, infused with Chinese herbs but without any bitterness. It’s great for your health.”
Mu Yunge’s voice was beautiful, like a spring hitting round stones—ethereal and bright.
As Lin Qiyan listened, her mind began to drift. She glanced slightly to the side and saw the other girl’s long, drooping eyelashes and her naturally red lips.
Those eyelids suddenly lifted, looking straight at her.
Lin Qiyan saw a flash of coldness in those eyes—it was so fast she doubted her own eyes, wondering if it was a hallucination.
The next moment, Mu Yunge’s eyes crinkled. “Yan Yan, what would you like to order?”
Lin Qiyan hadn’t processed a single word. She tried to recall and said conservatively, “Just the first dish and that soup, then.”
Mu Yunge didn’t call her out. She summoned back the server, who had tactfully stepped outside the door, and ordered a few more items before handing over the scroll. “That will be all, thank you.”
The server took the scroll and withdrew.
Mu Yunge sat back down opposite her. She looked at Lin Qiyan seriously and warned, “In the future, don’t expose your glands to an Alpha so casually.”
Lin Qiyan didn’t quite understand. “Why?”
Mu Yunge: “Alphas are predatory by nature. To them, any unmarked Omega is prey.” She swept a playful, meaningful gaze over Lin Qiyan’s neck and shoulders. “Especially someone like you, Yan Yan.”
Lin Qiyan: “What?”
Mu Yunge laughed mischievously. “Pretty, simple-minded, and completely off-guard.”
Lin Qiyan let out a soft “Ah.”
[We’re all girls, surely it’s fine… right?]
Mu Yunge didn’t say more. She picked up her cup and took a sip, a smile lingering on her lips.
The food arrived quickly. The dishes on the table were a feast for the eyes and the nose, enough to make anyone’s mouth water.
After lunch, it was already past 2:00 PM.
The two wandered around the area for a bit before receiving a message from Mu Ze.
—The physical exam report was ready.
They returned to the hospital to collect the results.
