After Transmigrating into a Book, I Became the Vicious Female Supporting Lead - Chapter 8
At 3:00 PM, the hospital was relatively quiet, with only a few people walking by in a hurry. Lin Qiyan and Mu Yunge headed to the 20th floor as usual.
Mu Ze was focused on his computer, scribbling on a piece of paper. Hearing the knock, he looked up, put down his pen, and rubbed his temples with a trace of exhaustion.
“You’re here.”
Mu Yunge placed a takeout bag on his desk. “From Yunshang.”
Mu Ze reached out, pulled the food over, and began to unwrap it. “How are you so conscientious today?”
Mu Yunge asked, “Little Uncle, what about the physical exam results?”
Mu Ze glanced at her, kicked off the floor, and rolled his office chair to the desk behind him. He pulled out a folder, slid back, and placed it on the corner of his desk.
“Here, inside this.”
Lin Qiyan thanked him. Mu Ze waved his hand dismissively, clearly not minding. He picked up his chopsticks and took an eager bite; he looked so satisfied his very pores seemed to relax. “As expected, it has to be Yunshang.”
Remembering something, Mu Ze looked at Mu Yunge, who was explaining the data to Lin Qiyan, and mentioned casually, “Mumu, did you guys have lunch at Yunshang?”
Mu Yunge lifted her eyes to sweep a glance over him and gave a hum of affirmation. Mu Ze accurately caught the warning in her gaze and curled his lips into a smile.
If he remembered correctly, Yunshang required a reservation at least six hours in advance. If they ate there at noon today, then when did Mu Yunge start planning this…?
Mu Ze laughed inwardly. Perhaps the very moment she caught the scent of the other girl’s pheromones, she had already formed a plan. He didn’t pry further and went back to his meal.
On the other side, Mu Yunge had moved on to explaining pheromone concentration.
“Generally speaking, as long as you don’t feel your glands getting hot during the day, your concentration is considered normal. The values shown here are within the normal range, but they are brushing against the upper red line. Yan Yan, you need to be careful these next few days; your ‘heat’ might be coming.”
Lin Qiyan froze. “Then what should I do during the heat?”
Mu Ze, still eating, chimed in: “Three ways. One: tough it out. Two: take suppressants. Three: a temporary marking.”
He had mostly finished eating and was leisurely tidying his desk. “Doctors usually suggest suppressants, but some little Os might be allergic to them.” At this, Mu Ze looked at Lin Qiyan. “Are you allergic?”
Lin Qiyan didn’t know; there was nothing about this in the original owner’s memories. She said uncertainly, “I probably shouldn’t be.”
Mu Ze had been suspicious since her first question. He gave her a strange look. “Have you never experienced a heat before?”
Lin Qiyan knew even less. “Maybe?”
[Damn it, that System didn’t tell me a single thing about what I should or shouldn’t know…]
She was starting to doubt if the System actually wanted her to survive.
Mu Ze looked at her thoughtfully. Mu Yunge cut in to change the subject: “Little Uncle, can’t you tell by checking the glands?”
Mu Ze shook his head. “No.” He set his things aside, clicked something on the computer, and entered a password. “Let me check the database.”
The cold light of the screen reflected off his glasses, looking icy and sharp. He scanned the lines rapidly, pushed up his glasses with one hand, and smiled at Lin Qiyan. “No history of allergies. You can use suppressants.”
Lin Qiyan breathed a sigh of relief. Mu Yunge frowned slightly at Mu Ze, whose gaze behind the lenses flickered subtly.
Mu Ze interlaced his fingers and continued: “Using suppressants is the first choice for many, but in the end, it is medicine. It uses a method that forcibly suppresses hormonal reactions, which goes against the body’s natural cycle.”
His tone was half-joking, half-serious. “So, my suggestion is the third option: a temporary marking. Ideally, a final marking. This effect is mutual: the Alpha becomes dependent on the Omega and needs their pheromones more during the ‘rut,’ while the Omega’s desires are managed by the Alpha, and the ‘heat’ basically disappears—unless you both have the will to bond.”
Mu Ze leaned back in his chair, his previous seriousness vanishing. He said breezily, “You could also be a ‘scum O.’ During your heat, find an Alpha with a decent character to give you a bite. It’s better than two shots of suppressants. Plus, afterward, the other party will feel protective of you—you get a free bodyguard without being affected yourself.”
By the end, Mu Ze’s tone carried a hint of mockery.
Lin Qiyan said sheepishly, “I think I’ll stick to suppressants.”
[That sounds way too ‘scummy.’ It sounds like the kind of plot where you get locked up and treated… a certain way. The ending would be way too tragic…]
Mu Yunge arched a brow.
After getting her supplies, Mu Ze received a call and kept Mu Yunge at the hospital, saying there was something to do at home. Lin Qiyan headed back to school alone.
It was past 4:00 PM. The sun was gradually shifting westward. The commercial street was bustling with traffic, and the towering mall stood grandly in the center of the district. Lin Qiyan was wearing a denim vest over a short top with matching straight-leg jeans, revealing a hint of her slender waist. Her hair was gathered into a casual, round bun. Her face was looking more and more like her appearance from her original world.
She walked unhurriedly back to the spot where she had skipped out. She looked up at the high wall, calculating how many bones she might save if she climbed up and jumped to the other side. Finally, Lin Qiyan sighed and decided to wait until class was over to go in.
At Yanda Affiliated High School, students could leave during meal times. She could take the opportunity to sneak back in before the student guards arrived.
She found a corner to crouch in and browsed the school forum. In the “Latest and Hottest” section, there was a video. At a glance, she could see herself kicking the desk over.
Lin Qiyan clicked on it. The title was sharp:
[Lin Qiyan throws a massive ‘Eldest Miss’ tantrum in class, kicks a classmate’s desk over in public, and forbids anyone from spreading the word.]
Lin Qiyan: “…”
If I didn’t want it spread, where did this video come from?
Furthermore, there were several other angles in the comments. Did she hire a hundred camera crews to film her for “exclusive rights” and then post it herself? Lin Qiyan was truly helpless against these clickbait titles. Which future marketing guru’s handiwork was this?
The comment section below was a toxic mess. Lin Qiyan scrolled through two of them and exited—out of sight, out of mind. She turned off her phone and stared blankly into space, absentmindedly pulling at the grass.
Time passed quickly. A bell rang, and Lin Qiyan jolted awake, only to realize she had fallen asleep while crouching. She was currently curled in a ball with her head nearly touching the ground.
She hurriedly stood up, wiped some drool from the corner of her mouth, and waited until a few people started coming out before walking in under the suspicious gaze of the security guard.
