Chapter 107
Fang Bai’s mentality changed quickly. When facing Ji Yuning, apart from feeling unnatural during eye contact or small touches, everything else was normal.
Moreover, Ji Yuning had been leaving early and returning late these past few days, so Fang Bai only saw her in the evenings, and the reduced interaction time made Fang Bai lose her initial awkwardness and restraint.
On this day, Ji Yuning entered the house and saw Fang Bai kneeling by the coffee table, a soft rug beneath her, a computer with a document open in front of her.
Fang Bai’s long hair was pinned up casually behind her head, and she wore a beige knitted short-sleeved shirt and simple shorts.
Hearing the sound, Fang Bai turned her head. “You’re back?”
The celadon-green gardenia earrings swayed slightly with the movement.
Directly swaying into Ji Yuning’s heart.
Ji Yuning: “Mmm.”
After changing her slippers, Ji Yuning walked towards Fang Bai. “What are you doing?”
Fang Bai’s hands were still typing on the keyboard. “Writing a resume, preparing to find a job.”
Ji Yuning paused upon hearing this. “Is the money in the card used up? I have another card.”
Fang Bai looked at her in surprise. “It’s not about the money.”
Fang Bai hadn’t touched that card, and besides, she still had plenty of money in her own account.
“I’m just too bored, I want to find something to do,” Fang Bai said.
The speaker was unintentional, but the listener was mindful.
The expression on Ji Yuning’s face changed slightly, her heart filled with mixed emotions.
She lowered her eyes to look at Fang Bai, words caught in her throat.
Fang Bai finished writing her resume. After checking it herself, she thought about asking Ji Yuning’s opinion to see if there was anything that needed to be changed.
But at this moment, she heard Ji Yuning call her name, “Auntie.”
Ji Yuning had knelt down behind Fang Bai at some point. Fang Bai heard her and turned slightly to look at her.
After a few seconds of eye contact, Ji Yuning said frankly, “I’m sorry.”
The apology came suddenly, and Fang Bai blinked in confusion.
“I’ve never considered your feelings, selfishly keeping you by my side.” Ji Yuning spoke her thoughts. When she heard Fang Bai say she was bored, Ji Yuning realized she had been neglecting Fang Bai all along.
Ji Yuning reflected, “After I finish being busy with this, will you let me accompany you on a trip?”
Ji Yuning’s apology was unexpected for Fang Bai. Her brow softened, and her voice lowered slightly. “I’ve been to all the places I wanted to go in the past three years. The trip I mentioned before was also a promise I made to Yingman.”
“I don’t know why you would think that way, but I hope you don’t feel burdened. I’m bored because I’m idle all day, it doesn’t have much to do with you,” Fang Bai said.
“If there’s a bit of a connection, it might be that you’re working too hard, making me look very idle?” Fang Bai said with a smile, but this was the reason she wanted to find a job to pass the time.
Someone like Ji Yuning was still working hard; in comparison, she was too much of a salted fish.
“Sorry.” A look of guilt flashed across Ji Yuning’s eyes. “I’ll finish my work early to accompany you.”
“No, no need.” Fang Bai turned her head, clicked save on the document, and closed it. But she didn’t release the mouse, instead continuously clicking refresh. “I won’t be idle once I start working. You go ahead and be busy with your things, don’t worry about me. I’m not a child, I don’t need someone to accompany me.”
Ji Yuning naturally replied, “Auntie is forever eighteen.”
Fang Bai turned her head. “Saying things like that too much makes them sound insincere.”
Ji Yuning’s expression was calm, and her tone was very sincere, completely unrelated to insincerity.
Fang Bai was also happy listening to this. Although she didn’t have age anxiety, she couldn’t resist when someone praised her like this. The reason she replied to Ji Yuning like that was purely out of a little embarrassment.
Ji Yuning raised her hand to her chest and said calmly, “I’m saying it with my hand over my heart.”
Fang Bai slowly turned her head, silent, thinking how Ji Yuning could say such seductive words with a cold face.
It was too out of character.
Ji Yuning rested her hand on the floor, leaning towards Fang Bai, the scent of Fang Bai filling her nose.
She called out hoarsely, “Auntie.”
Fang Bai could tell that Ji Yuning had gotten closer to her. She pulled her legs in a bit, leaning towards the coffee table, wanting to create some distance.
Ji Yuning noticed Fang Bai’s movement. She didn’t get any closer but lowered her head, her face pressed against Fang Bai’s back. “Auntie.”
Fang Bai stiffened. “Mmm?”
Ji Yuning closed her eyes and savored the moment before calling out again, “Auntie.”
Fang Bai: “?”
Why was she repeating herself like a broken record?
Fang Bai tilted her head, wanting to look at Ji Yuning.
But she heard Ji Yuning murmur by her ear, “You’re so good.”
Fang Bai only paused for two seconds before asking, “Did something happen?”
Ji Yuning smiled. “No.”
Fang Bai didn’t believe her. If nothing had happened, then… was she under pressure?
Fang Bai pursed her lips, sitting face to face with Ji Yuning.
Ji Yuning sat up straight when Fang Bai moved.
Thinking about what she wanted to say, Fang Bai tried to soften her voice as much as possible. “Actually, you don’t need to put too much pressure on yourself. Think about it, you haven’t even graduated from university yet, and you’re already far ahead of your peers. It’s okay to relax a bit.”
Ji Yuning took Fang Bai’s hand and said, “No pressure, I just wanted to call your name.”
Fang Bai: “.”
Then she had given her all that guidance for nothing?
While Fang Bai was about to pull her hand away, Ji Yuning leaned forward, closed her eyes, and placed a kiss on the corner of Fang Bai’s lips.
Opening her eyes and seeing Fang Bai’s stunned expression, Ji Yuning smiled. “I’m going to take a shower.”
By the time Fang Bai reacted, Ji Yuning had already entered the bathroom.
Twenty minutes later, Ji Yuning came out of the bathroom and saw Fang Bai standing a few steps away with her arms crossed.
The two looked at each other. Fang Bai said to Ji Yuning, “Come here, there’s something I want to talk to you about.”
Ji Yuning didn’t respond immediately. She observed Fang Bai for a moment, her expression unusually serious.
It seemed to be because of the kiss just now.
Ji Yuning knew clearly, “Mmm.”
Fang Bai walked towards the sofa.
When she turned her head to see if Ji Yuning was following her, she only saw Ji Yuning drying her hair with a towel, her movements not very gentle, a bit rough, like she was just wiping it a few times to hurry.
Seeing this, Fang Bai frowned slightly and said, “Wiping like that will damage your hair.”
Ji Yuning sat on the sofa, looked up at the person standing beside her, and naturally handed over the towel. “Then Auntie can help me.”
Fang Bai didn’t refuse, tidied up Ji Yuning’s messed-up hair, and then carefully wiped it along the direction it fell with the towel.
The scene was very warm, completely lacking the tension from when Ji Yuning came out of the bathroom.
Feeling that Fang Bai’s emotions should have stabilized, Ji Yuning spoke. “What did Auntie want to talk to me about?”
“You can’t just kiss me casually in the future,” Fang Bai said very directly, stating her request.
It was about what Ji Yuning had expected. Knowing that Fang Bai’s serious face meant she wanted to talk about this, but she hadn’t expected Fang Bai to say it like this.
It was completely like having a lavish dinner laid out in front of a starving person but being told, “You can’t eat.”
Fang Bai had underestimated her allure and overestimated Ji Yuning’s self-control.
“Okay,” Ji Yuning said, looking at Fang Bai, narrowing her eyes slightly. “Then Auntie kiss me twice.”
Fang Bai frowned, looking at Ji Yuning.
Ji Yuning helpfully reminded Fang Bai, “Didn’t Auntie forget? If you want me to do something, you have to kiss me.”
Fang Bai said sternly, “I’m very suspicious of the truthfulness of that. Did you and Lu Xia really have such an agreement?”
“Before I was six, yes,” Ji Yuning said thoughtfully.
Fang Bai: “…”
Ji Yuning added, “After I turned six, I thought it was childish and didn’t use it anymore.”
Fang Bai chuckled inexplicably. “Then why bring it up now?”
Ji Yuning said seriously, “Although childish, it fits perfectly between Auntie and me.”
Ji Yuning stood up and walked up to Fang Bai, asking softly, “Want a kiss?”
While asking, Ji Yuning leaned down, her head lowered as if preparing for Fang Bai to kiss her more easily.
Lowering her eyes, seeing Ji Yuning’s flawless face magnified before her, Fang Bai had already forgotten all the words she had thought of while Ji Yuning was showering. Clearly remembering them at the beginning, how to tell Ji Yuning to keep her distance, now all she could think of were Ji Yuning’s words.
Confused by Ji Yuning, Fang Bai subconsciously said, “Kiss my…”
Her red lips pursed.
A look of surprise crossed Ji Yuning’s eyes, and after a few seconds, she lowered her head and chuckled softly.
When she looked up at Fang Bai again, the smile in Ji Yuning’s eyes hadn’t disappeared. “Did Auntie just curse?”
Fang Bai was silent for a moment. She didn’t even know why she had said that. Facing Ji Yuning’s question, Fang Bai said, “Mmm, not only that, I can also hit people.”
Ji Yuning’s eyebrow twitched slightly. “With what?”
She said, “A whip?”
“I haven’t used that in a long time. I have better tools now.” Fang Bai raised her hand in front of Ji Yuning as she spoke.
She flicked Ji Yuning’s forehead with a bent finger.
Caught off guard.
Withdrawing her hand, Fang Bai said, “Don’t be disrespectful again.”
Fang Bai’s flick wasn’t very strong, so weak that Ji Yuning didn’t feel much.
It wasn’t even as satisfying as Fang Bai’s stern scolding.
Compared to the latter, the former felt like a fox borrowing the might of a tiger.
However, Ji Yuning still covered her forehead, her tone low and dejected. “Mmm…”
Looking like she was trying to take advantage of the situation while also being pitiful.
Fang Bai stared at Ji Yuning silently. For the first time, she felt that Ji Yuning had a talent for acting.
Ji Yuning didn’t go out early the next day but waited until Fang Bai woke up.
During breakfast, Ji Yuning asked, “What time is Auntie’s interview?”
Fang Bai: “9 o’clock.”
Ji Yuning said, “I’ll take you.”
Fang Bai looked up. She had been wondering why Ji Yuning was suddenly late for work; it turned out she was waiting for her.
“Won’t it delay you?” Fang Bai asked.
Ji Yuning: “Mmm, it’s on the way.”
“I don’t think I told you which company I’m interviewing at,” Fang Bai pointed out.
Ji Yuning took out a tissue and wiped her lips, her expression unchanged. “Everywhere is on the way.”
Fang Bai didn’t speak anymore.
After Ji Yuning took Fang Bai to the company, Fang Bai asked her to leave, otherwise Ji Yuning would likely take her home again, wasting even a second of Ji Yuning’s time made Fang Bai feel bad.
The job interview Fang Bai had was simple and ended quickly.
Coming out of the company, she received a call.
It was Lu Raomei calling.
Fang Bai swiped to answer. “Ms. Lu.”
“Miss Fang, do you have some time?” Lu Raomei’s voice was unusually serious.
Something was amiss. Fang Bai cautiously asked, “Ms. Lu wants…?”
Lu Raomei said in a deep voice, “Someone wants to see you.”
Fang Bai only took two seconds to guess who the ‘someone’ was. She paused. “Can I not meet them?”
Lu Raomei sounded amused by Fang Bai’s words, her tone rising slightly, returning to the familiar one Fang Bai knew. “You can’t.”
“Then weren’t those questions you asked me earlier completely unnecessary?” Fang Bai retorted, asking, “Location.”
Lu Raomei said, “The road to your left.”
The call ended there.
Fang Bai turned her gaze to the left. A black Land Rover was parked by the roadside.
She couldn’t see who was inside the car.
Fang Bai picked up her bag and walked towards the car in high heels, her steps neither hurried nor slow, elegant and composed.
Just as Fang Bai was one step away from the car, the door opened automatically.
As the door slowly opened, Fang Bai took in the scene inside the car.
Fang Bai glanced at Lu Raomei in the driver’s seat, her gaze involuntarily falling on the back seat.
A dignified person, with silver threads mixed in his black hair, obvious wrinkles on his face, but his upright posture showed great vitality.
He looked at Fang Bai without saying a word, his features stern.
As if trying to intimidate Fang Bai.
The person Lu Raomei was acting as the driver for could only be Ji Yuning’s maternal grandfather.
That is, Lu Xia’s father, Lu Zheng.
Just like Fang Bai’s earlier guess.
Clearly the one making the request, yet putting pressure on the person being asked. Fang Bai had always been someone who didn’t respond well to being forced, and Ji Yuning was very experienced in this.
Glancing at the other party, who showed no sign of relenting, Fang Bai smiled and said, “Sorry, wrong car.”
After saying that, Fang Bai walked towards the car she had called before going downstairs.
She didn’t give the person in the Land Rover even a single glance.
