Chapter 82
Fang Bai chuckled softly, assuming Ji Yuning’s “accompany you” was just a casual remark. But in the following days, no matter where Fang Bai went, Ji Yuning would follow her, inseparable.
Like her little tail.
Even at home, even if the door was locked tightly, even in the small sixty-plus square meter apartment with no hidden corners, if Fang Bai left Ji Yuning’s sight for more than a while, the other girl would search for her, calling her “Auntie” softly.
This… felt like a different kind of confinement.
Her body was free, but Ji Yuning was an invisible cage imprisoning her.
Fang Bai noticed something was wrong, but she didn’t show any unusual behavior. Compared to being killed off, this could only be considered a small trick.
More importantly, Fang Bai didn’t feel uncomfortable at all.
There was only one thing Fang Bai minded, and it was still her own fault.
If Fang Bai drank too much water before going to bed, she would wake up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. It was this habit that led to her waking up twice in the early hours to find herself sleeping in Ji Yuning’s embrace. It looked like she had moved into Ji Yuning’s arms herself after falling asleep.
Because Ji Yuning always woke up earlier than her, Fang Bai never knew what happened at night when she woke up.
After discovering this, Fang Bai didn’t know what Ji Yuning was thinking, but she only felt awkward.
Thinking that someone almost thirty years old would still squeeze into someone else’s embrace every night, being held to sleep, possibly waking the other person up in the middle of the night, or maybe Ji Yuning woke up early because she was being squeezed.
Ji Yuning couldn’t possibly not know, but why hadn’t she said anything?
Could it be that she was trying to save her face?
After lying in bed that night, Fang Bai didn’t fall asleep directly like usual. Instead, she hugged her phone, browsing various apps.
Afraid of disturbing Ji Yuning’s rest, she wanted to wait until Ji Yuning fell asleep before going to sleep on the sofa.
Ten minutes later, Ji Yuning entered the bedroom.
She was still wearing that white short-sleeved shirt, her long hair tied behind her head, looking neat and tidy.
Fang Bai looked over.
No matter how many times she looked, or from different angles, she never tired of Ji Yuning’s face. It was also possible that because Ji Yuning was always by her side, she didn’t feel annoyed.
Ji Yuning noticed Fang Bai looking at her and turned her head, giving the person on the bed a slight smile.
How to describe that smile? It was like a delicate flower blooming on a perpetually cold snow mountain, enticing people to pick it.
Fang Bai was stunned for a moment. After regaining her senses, an unnatural look flashed in her eyes.
She had actually been so lost in looking at Ji Yuning that she had spaced out.
However… Ji Yuning’s smile was truly beautiful.
“What are you smiling at?” Fang Bai asked.
Ji Yuning’s smile didn’t diminish, her voice faint. “Is Auntie looking at me because I’m good-looking?”
She seemed to have replied like this in the car last time.
“Mmm,” Fang Bai praised generously. “Very good-looking.”
Seeing that Fang Bai didn’t seem to be being perfunctory, a sense of joy arose in Ji Yuning’s heart. For the first time, she thought having a good-looking face was a good thing.
Her straight legs bent at the knees as she knelt by the bed, her palms facing outwards, supporting herself on the bed, the soft sheets creasing beneath her.
Ji Yuning’s upper body leaned towards Fang Bai, her red lips slightly parted. “Does Auntie like it?”
Fang Bai was puzzled. “Like what?”
No longer supporting herself with her hands, Ji Yuning lay on the bed, her abdomen and legs pressed tightly against the mattress, her peach-like buttocks slightly raised, supported by her elbows above her chest.
Her short sleeves had ridden up a bit, revealing the peach-like curve of her buttocks that had been hidden by her clothes before. The line from the back of her neck to her waist curved downwards, beautifully.
Her calves crossed in a figure-four, swaying back and forth.
All of this was taken in by Fang Bai’s eyes.
Ji Yuning seemed unaware of all this, her face towards Fang Bai as she asked, “Do you like my face?”
Too close, Ji Yuning’s face magnified in her eyes, her features clearly reflected in Fang Bai’s eyes.
Exquisite, without a single flaw to pick out.
Fang Bai nodded unwillingly, her mouth saying firmly, “It’s alright.”
A smile bloomed in Ji Yuning’s eyes, her cool gaze losing its distance at this moment. She half-closed her eyes and asked, “Then does Auntie want to touch it?”
A very sudden and strange request. If it were anyone else, Fang Bai would definitely refuse, but Ji Yuning…
Fang Bai’s heart stirred.
Looking at Ji Yuning’s face, Fang Bai’s hand moved slightly, not hurrying to lift it. She asked for confirmation, “Can I?”
The tip of Ji Yuning’s chin nodded slightly, a soft “mm” escaping her lips.
Without hesitation, Fang Bai raised her hand, first poking, then covering Ji Yuning’s face with her palm.
Feeling the warmth of Fang Bai’s palm, Ji Yuning suppressed the urge to rub against it and asked softly, “How does it feel?”
Fang Bai replied, “Pretty tender.”
Ji Yuning chuckled softly, a hint of allure in her laughter. She asked Fang Bai, “Then how about a kiss?”
Fang Bai was indeed drawn in by Ji Yuning’s smile again. Looking at Ji Yuning’s face, she subconsciously said, “Okay—”
The word had just fallen when Fang Bai quickly realized the content of Ji Yuning’s question.
Fang Bai withdrew her hand from Ji Yuning’s face, her brow furrowing slightly. “Why a kiss?”
The sudden withdrawal of her hand made Ji Yuning feel regret. “No reason.”
Ji Yuning’s dark eyes flickered. “Anyway, Auntie already agreed.”
“I…” Fang Bai wanted to explain, but she didn’t know what to say after opening her mouth.
Was she supposed to say: I looked at your smile and then didn’t hear what you asked and said okay?
What would her image be in Ji Yuning’s heart then?
Although her current image wasn’t very good either.
After a pause, Fang Bai turned her head, looked at her phone, and said, “It’s getting late, go to sleep quickly.”
She had been rejected. Ji Yuning clicked her tongue inwardly.
In her dark pupils, the flickering light didn’t fade because of this. Instead, when she saw Fang Bai glancing at her out of the corner of her eye, the smile in her eyes deepened.
Fang Bai was looking at her phone, but her attention was entirely on wondering why Ji Yuning still hadn’t gotten up.
A dozen seconds later, just as Fang Bai couldn’t keep up the pretense anymore, the figure in her peripheral vision finally disappeared, along with Ji Yuning’s words: “Do you want to turn off the light?”
Fang Bai: “…Okay.”
Ji Yuning got out of bed and turned off the bedroom light.
In the darkness, the light from Fang Bai’s phone became glaring.
“Don’t look at your phone after turning off the light, it’s easy to get astigmatism,” Ji Yuning said.
“Mmm.” Fang Bai didn’t usually look at her phone before sleeping. She hummed in agreement and put her phone aside.
The room darkened.
Fang Bai could still see Ji Yuning’s blurry figure. She saw Ji Yuning walk to the bedside and sit down.
Watching Ji Yuning lie down, Fang Bai’s hand resting by her side was grasped.
In the hot summer night, after her hand was held, Fang Bai didn’t feel any heat.
Perhaps she was used to it.
She was used to sleeping with Ji Yuning holding her hand.
Quiet and still, the only sound in the room was the shallow breathing of the two of them.
Fang Bai remembered what she had to do. After the lights went out, she didn’t close her eyes.
Twenty minutes later, Fang Bai’s drowsiness grew stronger. Just as she was about to fall asleep, she heard Ji Yuning call her softly, “Auntie?”
Fang Bai wanted to respond, but sleepiness prevented her.
Not getting a response from Fang Bai, the hand holding hers loosened.
Fang Bai became slightly more awake, but didn’t open her eyes. She heard Ji Yuning get out of bed, heard the sound of slippers rubbing against the floor, heard the door open and close…
The sound of the closing door was particularly clear in the silent night. Fang Bai’s sleepiness completely vanished.
She had said she was going to sleep outside, but she had fallen asleep without realizing it…
After opening her eyes, her eyelids felt slightly sore. Fang Bai blinked hard a few times to clear the soreness from her eyes.
Fang Bai thought Ji Yuning had gone to the bathroom, but after waiting for a long time, Ji Yuning didn’t return to the bedroom.
Remembering Ji Yuning calling her when she got out of bed, Fang Bai paused. Could she be sick and uncomfortable?
Worried, Fang Bai rolled over and got out of bed.
At night, Fang Bai’s footsteps couldn’t help but lighten, even the sound of opening the door was very soft.
The living room light wasn’t on, but there was light illuminating the darkness.
Fang Bai looked towards the light. The fluorescent light on the balcony had been turned on.
Under the dim light, Ji Yuning sat at the dining table, the computer in front of her was on.
She still had her headphones on, seemingly talking to someone. Ji Yuning would occasionally hum softly in agreement.
Fang Bai’s figure stopped at the bedroom door. After lingering for a few seconds, she turned back to the bed.
Yuan Yizhen briefly reported the work to Ji Yuning. Just as Ji Yuning was about to hang up, Yuan Yizhen called out, “Yuning.”
Ji Yuning: “Mmm.”
Yuan Yizhen’s tone carried a clear sigh. “Ms. Lu is looking for you again.”
Ji Yuning’s downward-sweeping gaze stopped. She pursed her lips and said, “Got it.”
“There are still documents here that need your signature, and you can’t take too much leave from school, otherwise Ms. Lu will definitely find out. You…” Yuan Yizhen paused. “When can you come back?”
Ji Yuning was silent for a moment. Just as she was about to speak, the light in front of her suddenly brightened.
The living room light had been turned on.
Ji Yuning looked towards the light switch.
Fang Bai stood with one arm crossed, leaning against the wall. “Didn’t you say that looking at electronic devices with the lights off is bad for your eyesight? How is the balcony light enough?”
Walking towards the dining table, Fang Bai glanced sideways at the computer on the table. “Work is work, what’s with all the sneaking around?”
The tone of her question was flat, but every word seemed to vent something.
Seeing Ji Yuning doing this after she had fallen asleep, Fang Bai felt inexplicably annoyed.
It was as if Ji Yuning being like this was all her fault.
But what did it have to do with her? She wasn’t the one who asked Ji Yuning to come to South City, nor was she the one who asked Ji Yuning to do nothing but accompany her, and she certainly wasn’t the one who asked Ji Yuning to stay up late working…
Fang Bai turned back to her room, even locking the door behind her, secretly thinking that Ji Yuning could just sleep in the living room!
But after standing with her back against the door for a while, Fang Bai still turned around and opened the door.
Yuan Yizhen heard the movement and asked, “Is… is that Miss Fang?”
Ji Yuning: “Mmm, hang on.”
The call was hung up, and Ji Yuning asked the person standing a few steps away with a not-so-good expression, “Did I wake you?”
Fang Bai wanted to say yes, wanting to see what Ji Yuning would do.
But the words that came out were: “No, I woke up naturally.”
Fang Bai glanced at the computer again, trying to keep the annoyance in her voice down. “Why not handle it during the day? Staying up late…”
Fang Bai didn’t finish her sentence.
Ji Yuning explained, “It was sent suddenly before I went to sleep.”
After a moment of silence, Ji Yuning added, “It’s a bit urgent.”
“…” Fang Bai paused. “Then you go ahead and do your thing.”
Ji Yuning hummed in acknowledgment. “Five minutes.”
After saying that, she turned back to the computer, and Fang Bai stood to the side, waiting quietly.
This was the first time she had seen Ji Yuning in work mode.
As a career fan… it was hard for her not to admit that the working Ji Yuning had a different feel compared to her usual self.
The seriousness and focus between her brows and eyes, her meticulous expression.
Even the anger in Fang Bai’s heart had a tendency to subside.
But five minutes passed, and after Ji Yuning closed her computer, Fang Bai said faintly, “Go to sleep.”
Fang Bai turned around and walked towards the bedroom first.
Ji Yuning followed behind Fang Bai with a calm expression.
She raised her head, her gaze falling on Fang Bai’s back.
But when Fang Bai turned her head, she only saw Ji Yuning lowering her head, looking like she was reflecting after doing something wrong.
