After Transmigrating Into The Novel, The White Moonlight And The Female Lead Of The Abusive Romance Got Their Happy Ending - Chapter 13
Inside the cell culture room, the ventilation system’s steady hum formed an unchanging rhythm.
Luo Ran skillfully suctioned the culture medium, which had already turned pale yellow, from the flask and emptied it into the liquid-waste container.
Just as she was about to add PBS and trypsin, she suddenly noticed a dark shadow moving behind her.
Her hand jerked, nearly spilling the PBS across the workbench. Yet with remarkable composure, she managed to guide the liquid steadily into the culture flask.
“It’s me, Wen Tang. Keep going for now,” the shadow said.
Luo Ran breathed a sigh of relief, then complained with mild annoyance, “Dr. Wen, are you secretly part cat? How do you walk without making a sound? I thought you were some senior administrator. We happen to have leaders inspecting the laboratory recently.”
Seeing Luo Ran use long forceps to replace the flask cap so her hands would not contaminate the cells, Wen Tang could not help remarking, “You’re remarkably careful. I usually screw the cap on with my hands.”
“I don’t have much choice. During my undergraduate years, the general laboratory and the cell culture room were connected. You could walk straight to the clean bench in your lab coat and start working with cells. Management wasn’t strict at all. To prevent contamination, I had to be as careful as possible. Now it’s become a habit.”
As she spoke, Luo Ran stood and placed the flask containing trypsin into the incubator for digestion.
Pressing the timer, she asked, “Dr. Wen, did you need something from me?”
“Are you familiar with the university’s Youth Volunteer Association? I want to arrange for someone to volunteer at the hospital. You know her—Shi Nanqiao.”
“The Youth Volunteer Association?” Luo Ran thought briefly before agreeing. “Sure. My undergraduate counselor is the faculty supervisor in charge of it. I’ll speak to her.”
Wen Tang gave a slight nod.
“Thank you. Is there anything you need my help with?”
She disliked owing favors, so she rarely asked other people for assistance. Even when she accepted help, she would find a way to repay the favor as soon as possible.
Luo Ran smiled.
“I’ll reserve the favor for now. If I ever lose direction in an experiment, I may have to bother you for guidance.”
“Of course. You’re always welcome.” Wen Tang turned to leave. Before going, she specifically reminded her, “The volunteer arrangement has to be completed before Friday. Don’t forget.”
“I know. Don’t worry. Goodbye, Dr. Wen. I won’t see you out.”
After Wen Tang left, Luo Ran muttered to herself, “She could’ve just sent me a message on WeChat. Why did she insist on coming inside to find me? She had to change into laboratory clothes and switch shoes. Wasn’t that a nuisance?”
Still, in exchange, she had secured an opportunity to receive Wen Tang’s guidance in the future. No matter how she looked at it, Luo Ran was certainly not the one losing out.
Meanwhile, Wen Tang went to the café on the first floor for dinner and sent Shi Nanqiao a message as she ate:
“Ah-Qiao, the volunteer matter has been taken care of. I’ll contact you before Friday.”
Shi Nanqiao replied almost immediately:
“Thank you, Tangtang. I’ll treat you to dinner another day~”
The next few days passed peacefully. Wen Tang continued living the same orderly routine day after day.
The day Shi Nanqiao came to volunteer happened to be the surgical day for Wen Tang’s team.
From eight in the morning until late at night, her schedule was completely packed with operations.
By the time Wen Tang emerged from the operating room at eleven that evening, forget volunteers—the enormous outpatient building did not contain a single visible soul.
Although Shi Nanqiao had invited her to dinner, Wen Tang could hardly ask her to wait until nine or ten at night, so she had no choice but to decline her kind offer.
By coincidence, the two of them did not meet at all over the next few days.
It was not until Friday morning that Shi Nanqiao called Wen Tang.
“Tangtang, are you free tonight? Come to the television station for a rehearsal. We’ll officially record the program on Saturday.”
Wen Tang glanced at the duty roster.
“That’s fine. I don’t have any operations this afternoon. Send me the address, and I’ll drive over tonight.”
“How could I let you do that—” Shi Nanqiao’s sweet voice flowed through the phone like clear, sugary spring water, pleasant and melodious. “I’ll pick you up tonight and drive you home afterward. Don’t worry.”
Wen Tang could not win against her persistence, so she had no choice but to agree.
