An Inner Life of a Cold Beauty Omega Secretary - Chapter 17
“Let me confirm once more: once the tickets are verified, the amount is absolutely non-refundable. Are you sure?”
“We’re sure!”
Mu Zheng held Fang Ran’s hand and pulled her away, apologizing to the ticket inspector as they walked. Ignoring the fragmented gossip and whispers from the people around them, Mu Zheng only wanted to get Fang Ran out of Ye Baiwei’s sight as quickly as possible.
After walking a long distance and finally leaving the carousel far behind, Mu Zheng slowly came to a halt. She turned around anxiously, looking Fang Ran over to see if there were any signs that she had been bullied.
Fang Ran was clearly dissatisfied with this gesture. She directly shrugged off Mu Zheng’s hand from her shoulder. “I’m fine, no need to look! What exactly did you come here for? You came but didn’t help me—didn’t you see them all teaming up to bully me?! I’m your girlfriend; do you just allow your girlfriend to be treated like that by others?!”
“She bullied you?” Mu Zheng asked anxiously. “What did she do to you?!”
Fang Ran shoved Mu Zheng’s reaching hand away again and roared, “You saw it yourself! It was so obvious, and yet you’re asking me! I was being bullied like that, and you didn’t say a single word. What’s the use of just pulling me away and running!”
Mu Zheng didn’t know the specific details of what had happened. She could only continue to ask Fang Ran: “So, what exactly did she do? You have to tell me so I know what to do next.”
If she rushed to confront Ye Baiwei without knowing the process and there happened to be a misunderstanding, making Ye Baiwei angry would mean not just trouble for her, but for Fang Ran as well.
Furthermore, she wasn’t an unreasonable person. No matter the situation, one must be logical. Otherwise, wouldn’t the world just become a playground for barbarians?
But Fang Ran, having been slighted by Ye Baiwei, didn’t care about logic. Hearing Mu Zheng speak like this, she vented all the frustration she felt from Ye Baiwei onto Mu Zheng. “Mu Zheng, what do you mean by that? Are you suspecting me of lying? We’ve been together for so long, and you won’t even give me this much trust!”
Mu Zheng immediately began to coax her: “Ranran, I’m not doubting you. It’s just… we have to be reasonable, right? If she really did something to you or truly bullied you, tell me everything so we can hold her accountable, right?”
Fang Ran had no “reason” to speak of. If she told Mu Zheng the truth of the matter, Mu Zheng would definitely be angry. Given Mu Zheng’s upright and principled character, she would never be able to forgive Fang Ran for doing something so childish and irrational.
She knew Mu Zheng too well. Mu Zheng could tolerate many things, including some willful tantrums, but she could not tolerate Fang Ran making such a low-level mistake. To Mu Zheng, this wouldn’t just be a mistake—it would be a deliberate act of being unreasonable, trying to use her status as an Omega to act tyrannical. That was something Mu Zheng would never accept.
Back when they first got together, Fang Ran didn’t quite know what kind of person Mu Zheng was. She thought Mu Zheng would tolerate everything and pamper her regardless of right or wrong. But then, on one occasion, she had cut in line to buy a cake for Mu Zheng more quickly. When the people behind her cursed at her, she went to Mu Zheng to complain, saying those people were too much—it was just cutting in line, why use such foul language? She expected Mu Zheng to comfort her and join in criticizing them. To her complete shock, Mu Zheng flew into a rage upon hearing the story. She gave her the cold shoulder for the rest of the day and wouldn’t even eat the cake she bought.
From then on, Fang Ran knew that Mu Zheng had her own set of principles and bottom lines; she could not tolerate errors in these “grain-of-sand” sized matters. Consequently, Fang Ran learned to hide her true self in front of Mu Zheng. She worked hard to act like the perfect girlfriend Mu Zheng liked. Regardless, Mu Zheng spent money on her, so she didn’t consider it a loss.
“Reason, reason! You always talk about being reasonable, but some people are just unreasonable!” Fang Ran pretended to be on the verge of tears, saying aggrievedly, “Mu Zheng, tell me, when have you ever proactively stood on my side? Every time something happens to me, you just tell me to be reasonable. How can there be so much logic in this world?!”
“Yes, you, Mu Zheng, are a person of high moral standing. No matter what happens, you use logic with others. But have you considered that while you are morally upright, what about others? Will they be as moral as you? No!”
“If everyone were so moral and reasonable about everything, we wouldn’t need the police or the courts, and there wouldn’t be any physical altercations or people drawing knives on each other!”
As she spoke, Fang Ran started crying in earnest, sobbing: “Mu Zheng, I’m your girlfriend. We’ve been together for nearly three years. I always thought that even if no one else stood by me, you at least would stand by me unconditionally. But every time something happens, you take the other person’s side and turn around to lecture me. Sometimes I really feel like we aren’t even partners, just two familiar strangers forced together!”
Seeing her shed tears, Mu Zheng’s heart softened instantly. She apologized hurriedly: “I’m sorry, I’m sorry. I didn’t mean it that way. I wasn’t taking their side. Ranran, I’m sorry, it’s all my fault. It’s all my mistake. Please stop crying, okay?”
Fang Ran continued to let the tears fall, and hearing Mu Zheng’s apology, they fell even faster.
Mu Zheng was at a loss. She feared seeing Fang Ran cry more than anything; it made her heart break. She could only continue to comfort her: “Ranran, don’t cry. I apologize to you. Didn’t you say you liked a new handbag last time? I’ll buy it for you later, okay?”
Fang Ran’s tears stopped instantly. The bag she wanted wasn’t cheap; it was a new arrival for the season, recently stocked. In the authentic boutique, it cost at least 20,000 yuan. she had coveted it for a long time. During their last chat, she had specifically sent a photo to Mu Zheng, but she hadn’t dared to ask for it directly, only hinting that she liked it. She had thought Mu Zheng was ignoring it because of the price, but it turned out she had kept it in her heart.
“Ranran, is that okay?”
Fang Ran didn’t answer immediately. This reminded her of the time she and Chen Yue went for a drive and accidentally hit someone’s Lamborghini. The two of them definitely couldn’t afford the repairs, but Mu Zheng certainly had the money.
The problem was she didn’t know how to ask Mu Zheng. Her secret affair with Chen Yue must never be known to Mu Zheng, otherwise she wouldn’t be able to pay the Lamborghini owner. She would have to discuss this with Chen Yue later.
“Really?”
Seeing her finally stop crying, Mu Zheng breathed a sigh of relief. “Yes, really. When have I ever broken a promise to you?”
That was true; Fang Ran quite liked Mu Zheng’s integrity. “Then… then I’ll forgive you.”
As expected, when it comes to coaxing a girlfriend, there is nothing a bag can’t fix. If one bag doesn’t work, then two.
“Look at you, your makeup is all ruined from crying.” Mu Zheng used a tissue to wipe the tears from the corners of her eyes. “Stop crying; you won’t look pretty if you keep crying.”
Fang Ran nodded and took Mu Zheng’s arm affectionately. “Then darling, let’s go back to the room.”
“It’s not even four o’clock yet. Don’t you want to play a bit longer?”
“No, there’s nothing fun to play anyway.”
The commotion just now was so big that everyone in the amusement park probably recognized her. If she went back, people would definitely point and stare. She didn’t want that.
Especially, she didn’t want to run into that female Alpha who showed zero respect to Omegas!
Fang Ran pulled on Mu Zheng’s arm. “Let’s go back to the hotel room. I’m actually a bit hungry. Darling, if you want to play, we can come out again tonight.”
Mu Zheng had no objections. She had accompanied Fang Ran for several hours and was physically and mentally exhausted. She had originally wanted to rest properly in the hotel. Thinking that Ye Baiwei wouldn’t be interested in these entertainment projects, she had felt safe letting Fang Ran come down alone. Who would have thought Ye Baiwei would act so out of character and actually come down to play?
If she had known Ye Baiwei was coming down, she wouldn’t have let Fang Ran be alone for a second, no matter what.
“Okay,” Mu Zheng said. “I bought some food earlier and left it in the room. Let’s go up and eat.”
On the way back.
Fang Ran suddenly remembered a detail and asked: “Darling, that Alpha who bullied me just now—does she know you?”
Mu Zheng froze. “Why do you think that?”
Ye Baiwei had been wearing sunglasses, making it impossible to read any emotion on her face. If Mu Zheng hadn’t spent years by her side and been familiar enough with her build, she might not even have recognized her.
Furthermore, under those circumstances, normally one wouldn’t care about such things. How did Fang Ran…?
“Look, after you arrived, she didn’t continue bullying me or say anything else. Only people who know each other would feel there’s no need to continue arguing, right?”
Fang Ran let go and stood in front of Mu Zheng, pressing: “Darling, do you really not know her? Also, you recognize her too, don’t you? Otherwise, your first reaction wouldn’t have been to shield me behind your back.”
Mu Zheng had no secrets from Fang Ran; she would answer truthfully anything Fang Ran asked. She said, “Yes, she is my boss.”
Fang Ran’s face showed no expression, but her eyes flickered thoughtfully. “The boss you work for as a secretary?”
“Yes.”
“Then why is your boss at an amusement park? Doesn’t she have to work?”
Just as Mu Zheng was about to explain, her phone suddenly vibrated.
She picked it up; it was a message from Ye Baiwei.
[Secretary Mu, your taste in people is truly terrible.]
