An Inner Life of a Cold Beauty Omega Secretary - Chapter 18
Mu Zheng stared at Ye Baiwei’s text message for a long time. While finding Ye Baiwei’s behavior inexplicable, she felt a flare of anger at the implication in her words. Originally, she had intended to withhold judgment until Fang Ran explained the specifics, but now she was beginning to agree with Fang Ran: some people truly won’t listen to reason, and not everyone possesses a high moral standard.
A “Scum Alpha” like Ye Baiwei, relying on her power and wealth, usually acts purely on whim without any regard for logic or others. She acts entirely on her own temper—utterly arrogant and unreasonable.
But again, the same old rule: Ye Baiwei is the boss.
“Darling, who’s messaging you?”
Worried that Fang Ran would overthink if she saw Ye Baiwei’s message, Mu Zheng didn’t answer truthfully this time. Instead, she said, “No one special, just a colleague from the company looking for me about something. I’ll reply to her in a bit.”
Fang Ran certainly didn’t believe it. The excuse sounded a bit too much like a cover-up, but if she pressed further, it would make her look suspicious. She had to let it go. “I see. Then let’s head back to the hotel room. You need to reply to her later, so don’t keep them waiting.”
“Okay.”
After the two of them went up, Ye Baiwei sat alone on the carousel for an hour. The more she thought about Fang Ran’s pretentious act earlier, the angrier she got. Staring at the “Read” but unreplied message she sent Mu Zheng only made her blood boil further.
She had dropped a hint that blatant; Mu Zheng was so smart, was it possible she wouldn’t suspect Fang Ran at all?
But Ye Baiwei couldn’t be sure. After all, most people lose their minds when they’re in love. If it’s a severe case of “love brain,” it’s even more hopeless. Not only would they ignore warnings, but even if you grabbed them by the ears and told them straight that Fang Ran was trouble, Mu Zheng would probably just think she was trying to sow discord.
Ye Baiwei felt frustrated. She rarely cared about the romantic life of a stranger. Even though she had transmigrated and occupied the original Ye Baiwei’s body, her spirit and consciousness were still her own. To her, Mu Zheng was a stranger she hadn’t known for even a week.
Caring this much about a stranger was very unlike her old self.
But how could such a good person like Mu Zheng get stuck with a trashy girlfriend like Fang Ran?
Ye Baiwei couldn’t wrap her head around it.
“Hello, your one-hour time limit is up. Would you like to renew?” As the carousel finished its final rotation, the ticket inspector stepped forward to ask.
Ye Baiwei was no longer in the mood to keep riding. Stepping down from the wooden horse, she told the inspector, “No need, thank you.”
She walked back toward the hotel listlessly.
She had originally wanted to find something to eat nearby, but the thought of that shameless bitch Fang Ran killed her appetite. She planned to return to her room and order room service later.
Just as she was about to take the elevator, she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her stomach and needed a restroom.
Ye Baiwei checked the floor indicator; the elevator was stuck on the sixth floor and wasn’t moving. Since the pain was urgent, she asked the front desk and rushed toward the first-floor restroom.
There wasn’t anyone around, and the stalls were empty. Ye Baiwei picked one and went inside.
A short while later, she came out.
She had intended to wash her hands and head straight to her room, but at that moment, she heard the voices of two women talking in the adjacent area. They sounded incredibly familiar. After a quick mental search, she realized exactly who they were: Fang Ran and that cheating Alpha.
“Xiao Ran, why did you suddenly call me out? If your girlfriend finds out, we’re both finished! The compensation money hasn’t even been settled yet—do you want to end up in jail?”
“I called you down specifically for that matter, and yet you’re snapping at me without even knowing the situation. A-Yue, you’re too much!”
Ye Baiwei’s hand-washing motion stopped instantly. She slowly turned off the faucet and remained where she was, curious about what they were planning.
The conversation continued.
“Are you angry? I’m just worried she’ll find out about us. They say ‘carefulness allows a ship to sail for ten thousand years.’ I’m doing this for our sake! Baby, it’s all my fault. Don’t be mad. When you’re upset, my heart just breaks.”
“Really?”
“I swear!”
“Only A-Yue knows how to coax me. Unlike that block of wood Mu Zheng, who only knows how to make me angry!”
“Of course. Who else would you be but my heart and soul? A stunner like you being with an Omega like Mu Zheng is such a waste of God’s gifts.”
“Honey~”
Ugh—
Ye Baiwei instantly got goosebumps from that affected “Honey.” She cursed the “bitch” several times in her head to suppress the revulsion.
Truly, trash belongs with trash!
“Baby, did that frigid woman agree to pay the compensation for us yet?”
Ye Baiwei’s eyes darkened.
She then heard Fang Ran say: “Not yet. But I ran into a surprise today. A-Yue, guess what?”
Chen Yue asked: “What surprise?”
Fang Ran laughed: “I ran into Mu Zheng’s boss at the carousel this afternoon. She’s at the amusement park too!”
“Are you sure?”
“Positive! Mu Zheng admitted it herself. There’s no mistake!”
The next room suddenly went quiet. Ye Baiwei guessed they were plotting something and had lowered their voices to a whisper.
Ye Baiwei wondered if she should wait. Maybe they would start discussing loudly again; after all, neither of them seemed very bright. It wasn’t impossible for them to slip up.
Finally, after waiting for about ten minutes, she heard them again.
“I’ve heard of this Ye Group CEO. She’s a female Alpha. She looks decent on the surface, but behind the scenes, she plays dirty. Alphas, Omegas, Betas—she isn’t picky as long as they’re good-looking. Very promiscuous.”
“Based on what you’re saying, A-Yue, could Mu Zheng already have been…”
“Isn’t it obvious! That President Ye is an Alpha and messes around all the time. With an Omega like Mu Zheng swaying in front of her every day, could she resist? That’s why I told you from the start, baby—there’s no such thing as an Omega being loyal to an Omega. It’s all just a facade. Besides, isn’t the job of a ‘secretary’ just to ‘accompany the boss’?”
“No wonder she says she’s on business trips and busy every single day. She’s been lying to me!”
Ye Baiwei’s face turned black. At this moment, she really wanted to barge in and slap both of them. This level of shamelessness was truly an eye-opener.
She didn’t want to hear any more of their plotting. Taking the little bit of recording she managed to get, she walked out of the restroom and took the elevator back to her room in a foul mood.
When she reached the sixth floor, she ran into Mu Zheng.
Mu Zheng seemed to be looking for someone. As soon as the elevator stopped, she stepped in.
The two of them exchanged a look, both surprised. Mu Zheng originally wanted to step back out and wait for the next one, but since she was already in, backing out would look like she was being obvious about her dislike. She silently stood in the corner.
There was no one else in the elevator. With both of them standing on opposite sides, the atmosphere was quite awkward.
However, the awkwardness didn’t last long. Ten seconds later, the elevator reached the seventh floor.
Mu Zheng felt a surge of relief.
But just as she thought Ye Baiwei would simply walk out without further action, the next second, as she raised her eyes, she saw Ye Baiwei reach out and drag her out of the elevator by force.
Mu Zheng’s eyes widened, and she instinctively struggled. She was terrified that Fang Ran might see this scene and misunderstand her relationship with Ye Baiwei, making her struggle even more violently.
Ye Baiwei didn’t hold onto her hand for long. Once she pulled her out of the elevator, she let go. But when she turned around, she saw Mu Zheng’s eyes were red and slightly moist, glaring at her fiercely.
Uh…
She probably misunderstood my intentions.
Ye Baiwei wanted to explain, but Mu Zheng beat her to it: “If you have something to say, President Ye, say it directly. There’s no need for this physical tug-of-war!”
She sounded very angry.
But Ye Baiwei didn’t care much. After all, her reputation in this body was already trash. “Then what does Secretary Mu think I’m trying to do?”
Mu Zheng wanted to say, Who doesn’t know what a ‘pimp’ like you wants? but she couldn’t say that to her face. She could only say, “I don’t know what you want, but you should know I came here today for a date with someone I love. For you to pull me around like this with zero sense of boundaries—you should know better than anyone what my partner would think if she saw this!”
At the mention of that repulsive Omega Fang Ran, Ye Baiwei couldn’t help but frown. Mu Zheng was keeping her distance every second for the sake of “loyalty to love,” while that Fang Ran was busy rolling around in bed with another Alpha!
This was fundamentally unfair to Mu Zheng!
“I have something to tell you.”
Mu Zheng said displeasurably, “You could have said it in the elevator. There was no need to drag me out.”
True.
Ye Baiwei hadn’t thought that far ahead. Now that the person was already out, apologizing seemed useless, so she went straight to the point: “Were you looking for someone just now, Secretary Mu?”
“…!” Mu Zheng’s guard shot up instantly. She stared at Ye Baiwei warily. “During non-work hours, I don’t believe I need to report my actions to you.”
Ye Baiwei knew she would say that and ignored it, continuing: “I saw her when I was coming up. Do you want to know where she is now, Secretary Mu?”
For some reason, the moment Mu Zheng heard Ye Baiwei say this, an uneasy feeling washed over her, and she even felt the urge to escape. “I don’t. If there’s nothing else, I’m leaving.”
