Foreseeing the Future: The Scheming Film Queen and I Got Married - Chapter 31
Dong Yao coughed lightly twice and sat across from Gu Shiqiu, handing the album over.
Gu Shiqiu did not take it immediately. Her gaze clung to Dong Yao’s face, her eyes dark and unreadable. Only after about two seconds did she take the album.
Dong Yao pointed to the center of the album. “Just sign your name here. Thank you.”
She looked perfectly serious. If someone did not know better, they might really think she was one of Gu Shiqiu’s little fans.
Gu Shiqiu laughed softly and said in a voice only the two of them could hear, “Why are you here?”
“I’m your fan. Isn’t it normal for me to come to your signing event?” Dong Yao replied in the same quiet voice.
Gu Shiqiu’s signing hand paused. Then, at the end of her name, she drew a small heart.
Dong Yao handed something over. “This is for you.”
It was a cat-ear headband.
Gu Shiqiu picked it up and glanced at it. It was quite cute, just like the person giving the gift.
“Put it on for me,” Gu Shiqiu said.
Dong Yao froze.
“That’s not very appropriate, right?” Dong Yao subconsciously looked back at the fans lining up behind her.
Gu Shiqiu directly handed the cat-ear headband in front of Dong Yao. “It’s very appropriate.”
Dong Yao braced herself and took it. Across the table, she leaned slightly closer to Gu Shiqiu, and Gu Shiqiu cooperated by lowering her head a little.
As she got closer, Dong Yao smelled Gu Shiqiu’s unique faint fragrance. It smelled very nice.
Behind her, the fans lining up suddenly went quiet for an instant.
One by one, all of them stared fixedly at Dong Yao’s movements without blinking.
Dong Yao felt as if needles were pricking her back.
The hand she used to put the headband on Gu Shiqiu stiffened, and she silently regretted it.
She had given Gu Shiqiu this headband mainly because she felt Gu Shiqiu suited cat-related things very well. Another reason was that every time Gu Shiqiu came to see her, she brought a small gift. Dong Yao still understood the principle of returning courtesy.
What Dong Yao regretted was why she had to give it to Gu Shiqiu at this moment. She could have given it to her after the signing event ended.
Gu Shiqiu, too. Why did she have to make Dong Yao put it on for her?
Dong Yao wanted to quickly put the headband on Gu Shiqiu and end the situation of being stared at by a group of fans. But the more anxious she became, the worse she did. She even messed up Gu Shiqiu’s hairstyle.
She fumbled around helplessly.
Gu Shiqiu laughed, and Dong Yao’s face heated.
In the end, she finally managed to put the hair accessory on properly. After stepping back a little and creating some distance, Dong Yao finally felt relieved.
Gu Shiqiu asked, “Does it look good?”
Dong Yao looked at her. Her long black hair fell over her shoulders, parted in a three-to-seven ratio. Her makeup was delicate, her skin fair, and her appearance gentle and moving. Under the lights, she seemed almost to be glowing. Paired with the cat-ear headband on her head, there was an added playfulness she usually did not have.
Did it look good?
Of course it did.
Before Dong Yao could answer, the fans behind her shouted first, in perfect unison, “It looks good!”
“Super good-looking!!”
Dong Yao was startled by the shouting behind her, so much so that her shoulders shook.
Gu Shiqiu smiled at the fans, drawing another wave of joyful screams from them.
The praise Dong Yao had been about to say stopped at her lips and never came out.
The fans behind were still waiting in line, so Dong Yao could not delay here for too long. She took the personally signed album from Gu Shiqiu and left.
Gu Shiqiu’s gaze followed her the whole way. Even after Dong Yao had walked far away, she still did not withdraw her eyes.
Only when a fan called her did she come back to herself.
“Please wait for me for just a moment,” Gu Shiqiu said to the fan.
Gu Shiqiu looked toward Xiaowen at the side. Xiaowen understood and lowered her head. “What is it, Sister Shiqiu?”
Gu Shiqiu whispered a few words by Xiaowen’s ear. Afterward, Xiaowen walked toward the signing event exit.
Gu Shiqiu smiled apologetically at the fan. “Sorry to keep you waiting.”
“It’s fine, it’s fine,” the fan said happily. “Qiuqiu, you’re really so fair. You’re so pale you’re practically glowing. You look really good wearing this cat-ear headband.”
Gu Shiqiu’s brows lifted slightly. Her mood was much better than at the beginning.
“Qiuqiu, why do I feel like you’re especially happy right now?” The fan keenly noticed this point.
Gu Shiqiu said, “Because I really like this headband.”
After Dong Yao left the signing event venue, she prepared to go to the café across the street and sit for a while, waiting for Gu Shiqiu’s signing event to end.
Today’s mission was difficult, so she had to be fully prepared.
According to the clues given in the news, the accident would happen at seven in the evening. Dong Yao took out her phone and checked the time.
It was now four in the afternoon.
Still early. At least before the signing event ended at seven, Gu Shiqiu should not be in any danger.
Dong Yao lifted her foot and was just about to head to the café across the road when a voice suddenly called from behind her.
Hearing it, Dong Yao turned back.
A girl about twenty-four or twenty-five, with shoulder-length short hair and delicate features, came jogging over.
Perhaps because she had run too quickly, her breathing was a little unsteady.
Dong Yao was puzzled. “Were you calling me?”
Xiaowen adjusted her breathing. “Yes. May I ask if you’re Dong Yao?”
Dong Yao nodded. “That’s right. I am.”
“Sister Shiqiu asked me to come. The signing event still has about an hour left before it ends. I’ll take you to the lounge to rest first,” Xiaowen said.
Dong Yao understood. “I see. Okay.”
Xiaowen led the way. After showing her work badge to the staff, she quickly brought Dong Yao to the inner lounge.
“Please sit here,” Xiaowen said.
Dong Yao nodded and sat on the edge of the sofa.
Xiaowen said, “Would you like something to drink? I’ll pour it for you.”
“No need.” Dong Yao waved her hand. “Go busy yourself. Don’t worry about me. I’ll be fine alone.”
Xiaowen’s gaze landed on Dong Yao’s face. She found her familiar and could not help looking a few more times. Suddenly, she remembered. Wasn’t this the little girl from the concert before who had read Gu Shiqiu’s palm?
Seeing Xiaowen keep looking at her, Dong Yao touched her face in confusion. “What is it?”
Xiaowen shook her head. “No, no. I just suddenly remembered that I seem to have seen you before, at the Tobei concert. I don’t know if I remembered wrong.”
Dong Yao said, “It was me. You remembered right.”
“I knew you looked familiar,” Xiaowen said. “Right, Sister Shiqiu instructed me to get some food for you. Wait a moment. I’ll go buy some outside.”
“No need…” Before Dong Yao could finish speaking, Xiaowen had already left in a rush.
Not long after, Xiaowen returned carrying large and small bags.
“This is milk tea. This is cake. And this one too.” Xiaowen placed the items in front of Dong Yao.
Dong Yao said, “Why did you buy so much?”
Xiaowen said, “Sister Shiqiu told me to buy more. She said you can eat a lot.”
Dong Yao: “…”
What did “can eat a lot” mean? Why did it sound strange?
Realizing she had misspoken, Xiaowen quickly corrected herself. “Not that you can eat a lot. It’s just that you like eating more. I also like eating quite a lot.”
Dong Yao smiled awkwardly.
As they spoke, Xiaowen sat down.
Dong Yao asked, “Don’t you need to go work?”
Xiaowen shook her head. “Sister Shiqiu said I should stay with you. She was afraid you’d be bored alone.”
Dong Yao: “…”
Dong Yao silently complained in her heart. She was not a child. Why would she need someone to keep her company?
As soon as the signing event ended, Gu Shiqiu finished the work in her hands and walked toward the lounge.
Her footsteps were twice as fast as usual.
After spending an hour together, Dong Yao and Xiaowen had quickly gotten along well. Mainly, Xiaowen also loved eating, so it could be considered one hobby meeting another.
Dong Yao opened a bag of chips. They were purple sweet potato flavored, sweet and salty. Dong Yao had never eaten chips with this flavor before, and her eyes lit up.
“This is good,” Dong Yao said. “Here, you try one too.”
Xiaowen had just washed her hands and did not want to dirty them again.
“Don’t use your hands. I’ll feed you one.” Dong Yao noticed her inconvenience and said.
Xiaowen did not think much of it and nodded, leaning her head over.
With a creak, the lounge door was pushed open.
Dong Yao heard the sound and looked over. Xiaowen’s mouth, which had been about to bite the chip, paused.
Gu Shiqiu stood at the doorway, looking at the two of them in their “intimate feeding” scene. Her brows furrowed slightly.
Xiaowen hurriedly stood up. “Sister Shiqiu, you’re here.”
Gu Shiqiu hummed, her expression not very good.
Xiaowen keenly sensed the change in Gu Shiqiu’s mood.
Dong Yao, on the other hand, seemed to notice nothing and jogged over.
“You’re done with work? Perfect timing. These chips are good. Try one.” When Dong Yao ate something delicious, she subconsciously wanted to share it with the other party.
Gu Shiqiu looked at the chip, then at Dong Yao. Her expression eased a little.
“I won’t eat it. You eat,” Gu Shiqiu said.
Dong Yao gave an “oh” and did not think too much about it. She took a chip and continued eating by herself.
These chips really did taste good. Dong Yao glanced at the packaging and silently remembered the brand, planning to buy more next time.
Gu Shiqiu looked at Xiaowen. “You go out first. I have something to say to her.”
Xiaowen nodded. “Okay, Sister Shiqiu.”
Xiaowen was about to leave when Dong Yao called out to her. “Sister Xiaowen, we haven’t added each other on WeChat yet.”
Gu Shiqiu’s elegant brows furrowed, and her gaze lightly swept toward Xiaowen.
Gu Shiqiu clearly had not said anything, nor did her gaze carry any aggression, but Xiaowen somehow sensed pressure.
Very great pressure.
Dong Yao wiped her hands, took out her phone, and opened her profile page. “Scan mine.”
Just now, Xiaowen and Dong Yao had exchanged thoughts about local delicacies and also chatted about tasty snacks online.
Xiaowen had agreed to add her on WeChat later and send Dong Yao the online shopping links for those snacks.
Xiaowen looked at the phone Dong Yao handed over, hesitated, then looked at Gu Shiqiu.
Gu Shiqiu did not speak or express any opinion.
Xiaowen laughed dryly. “Um, let’s talk about this later. As for the links and such, just let Sister Shiqiu send them to you. I still have things to do, so I’ll leave first.”
After saying that, Xiaowen ran off as if escaping.
Dong Yao held her phone and scratched her head. What was going on? Hadn’t they just agreed to add each other as friends?
“You want to add her as a friend that badly?” Gu Shiqiu suddenly said.
“Huh?” Dong Yao looked at Gu Shiqiu blankly.
Seeing Dong Yao’s confused, clueless appearance, Gu Shiqiu sighed helplessly. “Nothing.”
Dong Yao gave a couple of “ohs,” then did not forget the serious matter. “Then don’t forget to ask Sister Xiaowen to send me the links.”
Gu Shiqiu said, “Sister Xiaowen?”
“Yeah.” Dong Yao blinked twice.
Gu Shiqiu pressed her lips together. When Dong Yao called her, she used her full name, but after knowing Xiaowen for only an hour, it was already “Sister Xiaowen.” Worse still, Dong Yao had even been feeding Xiaowen earlier.
Was this little one deliberately trying to anger her?
Dong Yao checked the time. It was almost six. There was only one hour left until seven.
