Foreseeing the Future: The Scheming Film Queen and I Got Married - Chapter 32
The best way to avoid danger was…
Not going out.
The news had said the accident happened on the way back to the hotel. Then she just had to find a way to stop Gu Shiqiu from going back. At the very least, before seven o’clock passed, she absolutely could not let Gu Shiqiu leave.
If they avoided that time, maybe they could avoid the danger.
“What are you thinking about?” Gu Shiqiu saw her solemn expression and asked curiously.
Dong Yao did not answer. Instead, while eating chips, she seriously surveyed the layout of the lounge: the sofa, the coffee table, the mirror…
During the previous hour, although she had been eating and drinking with Xiaowen, Dong Yao had already carefully studied this place.
This room had only one window, and it had solid anti-theft bars. In short, it was very safe. It was a good place to take shelter.
Dong Yao opened the door and peeked outside.
Outside stood a tall, broad bodyguard, over 1.9 meters tall, his whole body packed with muscle. He looked very reassuring, and his skills probably were not weak.
Dong Yao and the bodyguard outside stared at each other, big eyes to small eyes, for five whole seconds.
The bodyguard lowered his head and looked at this “shorty” who kept staring at him, his brows furrowing in confusion.
“Nothing. I’m just looking.” Dong Yao laughed awkwardly, pulled her head back in, and closed the door.
Just in case, she deliberately locked the door from the inside. After locking it, she patted the door with her hand.
This door was very sturdy. An ordinary person without tools would not be able to kick it open in a short time.
Gu Shiqiu tilted her head and looked at her. “Why did you lock the door?”
Dong Yao looked at the person in front of her and smiled. “Nothing. I just locked it casually. When does the bodyguard outside get off work?”
“When I go back to the hotel to rest, he gets off work,” Gu Shiqiu answered.
Dong Yao asked, “So if you don’t leave here, he’ll keep standing outside, right?”
Gu Shiqiu nodded.
Dong Yao let out a breath of relief. With that big brother outside, plus herself stopping Gu Shiqiu from leaving the lounge, the danger was basically reduced to zero.
Then she suddenly thought of something else and asked, “What’s that big brother’s surname?”
It could not be Yu, right? The news had said the criminal suspect was someone surnamed Yu. Yu Fei had been locked up, so logically, it should not be her. If it was not Yu Fei, then it could very well be any person surnamed Yu.
If this bodyguard really was surnamed Yu, then he would be a potential danger.
Gu Shiqiu asked, “Why are you asking all this?”
Dong Yao said, “Just tell me.”
Gu Shiqiu found it funny. “His surname is Lin.”
Dong Yao nodded. As long as it was not Yu.
“He’s already married. His child is three years old,” Gu Shiqiu suddenly said.
Dong Yao froze. “Huh? What?”
What did whether he was married or how old his child was have to do with her?
Gu Shiqiu took the bag of chips from her hand. “Why did you suddenly come to my side?”
Gu Shiqiu held the bag of chips, walked around the coffee table, and sat on the sofa. Only belatedly did Dong Yao realize that Gu Shiqiu seemed a little unhappy.
“I came to see you,” Dong Yao said.
Gu Shiqiu raised her brows. “From what I saw, the person you were looking at wasn’t me.”
As she spoke, Gu Shiqiu squeezed the bag of chips. She did not eat them. She just crushed all the chips inside.
Dong Yao watched this with heartache. She went over and took the chips away. “If you’re not eating them, don’t ruin them. What do you mean the person I’m looking at isn’t you? I came here to see you. Who else would I be looking at?”
Gu Shiqiu said, “Wasn’t it to see your Sister Xiaowen and that bodyguard big brother outside?”
Dong Yao looked at her in complete confusion. “Why would I look at them? I don’t even know them.”
Gu Shiqiu looked at her for three seconds, then finally sighed helplessly. “Nothing.”
What did she mean, nothing? Right now, this was a huge matter. Dong Yao glanced at the time again, her heart going up and down.
Seeing her keep checking the time, Gu Shiqiu asked, “Are you in a hurry?”
“No.” Dong Yao sat down beside Gu Shiqiu. “Do you still have work later?”
Gu Shiqiu shook her head. “No.”
Dong Yao said, “Then stay here with me for a while, okay?”
Gu Shiqiu did not understand. “Stay here? What’s there to stay here for…”
Before Gu Shiqiu could finish, Dong Yao said decisively, “It’s fun here.”
Gu Shiqiu: “?”
Gu Shiqiu looked at her. She was being a little strange.
But she was often strange for no reason, so Gu Shiqiu had already grown used to it.
Seeing that Gu Shiqiu would not agree, Dong Yao threw caution to the wind. She grabbed Gu Shiqiu’s hand, shook it twice, and acted spoiled. “Just stay here with me~”
Gu Shiqiu’s expression froze slightly. Then she laughed softly.
Dong Yao’s face turned red.
Dong Yao braced herself, gritted her teeth, and no longer cared. She continued holding Gu Shiqiu’s arm and shaking it. “Okay? Okay, okay, okay~~~”
Her voice deliberately rose and curled at the end, making Dong Yao herself feel goosebumps all over.
“All right. If you want to stay here, then we’ll stay here.” Gu Shiqiu rubbed her head and went along with her wishes.
Dong Yao froze for a moment.
The feeling of having her head rubbed seemed… not bad.
Dong Yao coughed lightly. “Then it’s settled. Once you promise, you can’t go back on it. You have to stay here with me for at least three full hours!”
The accident happened at seven. If she held Gu Shiqiu here for three hours, the chance of avoiding the accident should be very high.
Gu Shiqiu nodded. “All right. If you don’t find it boring, then we’ll stay for three hours.”
Her goal achieved, Dong Yao was satisfied and released Gu Shiqiu’s arm.
Gu Shiqiu looked at her now-empty arm and suddenly regretted it a little. If she had known, she would not have agreed so quickly. She actually wanted to see Dong Yao act spoiled a little more.
Gu Shiqiu stood up.
Dong Yao immediately stood up too. “Where are you going?”
“I’m getting water.” Gu Shiqiu pointed at the water dispenser by the door.
Dong Yao gave an “oh” and relaxed a little, then reminded her, “You promised. Three hours without leaving.”
Gu Shiqiu found it funny. What exactly was this child making a fuss about?
“Do you want water?” Gu Shiqiu asked.
Dong Yao shook her head. She had just drunk a large cup of milk tea and was not thirsty.
Gu Shiqiu poured a cup of water, took a sip, and leaned against the door. “Tell me. What exactly are you trying to do?”
Dong Yao blinked and said very sincerely, “I just want to stay with you and talk.”
Gu Shiqiu nodded. Clearly, she did not believe her. Although she did not believe her, she still cooperated and stayed with her for the full three hours.
During this time, Dong Yao kept watching the time. Seven o’clock passed. Eight o’clock passed. When the time reached nine, Dong Yao’s suspended heart finally settled completely.
It seemed the accident had been avoided successfully. Dong Yao let out a long breath.
“All right.” Dong Yao stood up. “We can go now.”
Gu Shiqiu looked at her thoughtfully.
Dong Yao opened the locked door. “Come on. I’ll send you back.”
Although the time had passed, she would feel more at ease if she personally sent Gu Shiqiu back.
Gu Shiqiu smiled and said nothing, letting Dong Yao arrange things.
After they came out, while waiting for the car, Dong Yao kept looking around, tense and nervous, while also seeming rather neurotic.
After getting into the nanny van, Dong Yao’s nervousness eased. It seemed there really was nothing wrong.
Dong Yao smiled happily. She had thought it would be very difficult, but it turned out to be so simple. Just staggering the time had solved it.
Dong Yao relaxed against the back of the seat, in a cheerful mood.
The nanny van passed over a large bridge. There were few vehicles around.
Bang!
The car shook violently. The rear had been hit.
Dong Yao’s body lurched forward with inertia, and her head slammed hard into the back of the seat in front of her.
It hurt so much.
Dong Yao held her head. Her ears rang, and her mind went blank for an instant.
She did not know how long passed—or perhaps not long at all—before Dong Yao heard the sound of the car window being smashed.
She turned her head to look. A middle-aged man with a ferocious expression was holding a baseball bat, swinging it again and again at the glass window.
Bang, bang, bang!!!
Dong Yao’s eyes widened, and she swallowed in shock.
She looked toward the bodyguard driving in front. The airbag in the driver’s seat had deployed, and the bodyguard had long since fallen unconscious.
Turning her head, she saw that Gu Shiqiu had also passed out.
The sound of the car window being smashed continued, each strike louder and heavier than the last.
Although the nanny van’s windows had been reinforced and were stronger than ordinary glass, they could not withstand being smashed like this.
The window would not hold much longer. That person would soon break in.
Wasn’t it a shoulder injury? Wasn’t it a nonfatal accident? Why did this situation look as if they had run into a vicious criminal?
This middle-aged man swinging a baseball bat, eyes ferocious, looked like he was here to take someone’s life no matter how one looked at it.
Dong Yao’s hands trembled, but she forced herself to calm down.
Enduring the pain in her body, she tried to shake the bodyguard awake, but clearly, it was useless. The bodyguard had completely passed out.
Dong Yao cursed inwardly. Was all that muscle on your body just for show? I didn’t faint, yet you’re this deeply unconscious???
Dong Yao gave up on trying to wake the bodyguard and began searching everywhere for her phone, wanting to call the police. She had only just taken out her phone when—
Bang.
The car window glass shattered and scattered.
The middle-aged man threw away the baseball bat in his hand and revealed a dagger. In the dark night, the dagger flashed with cold light.
Dong Yao shrank back in fear.
“The person I’m looking for is Gu Shiqiu. If you don’t want to die, then move aside.” The middle-aged man narrowed his eyes, murderous light flashing in them.
With one glare from him, Dong Yao felt as if she had instantly lost her voice, shrinking into a corner in fear.
The car door was opened. Seeing that the man was about to drag the unconscious Gu Shiqiu out of the car, Dong Yao could only watch with her eyes open, not daring to move.
If she made any move to stop him from dragging Gu Shiqiu away, the dagger in his hand would definitely be aimed at her.
Dong Yao clenched her hands into fists, fighting a battle within herself.
People were all afraid of death.
Seeing that the middle-aged man was about to drag Gu Shiqiu out of the car, Dong Yao gritted her teeth. Her gaze sharpened, and she suddenly lunged forward.
The middle-aged man froze, not expecting her to throw herself at him. With a clang, the dagger in his hand was knocked away.
“I’ll fight you!!!” Dong Yao pressed him beneath her and desperately swung her fists wildly, beating at his face.
But the gap in strength soon put Dong Yao at a disadvantage.
Dong Yao punched him four or five times, but her embroidered little fists did not cause him any real harm. The middle-aged man raised his hand and swung a counterpunch.
Smack.
Dong Yao cried out in pain and was knocked to the ground by that punch, unable to get up.
The middle-aged man climbed up, spat, and no longer bothered with Dong Yao lying on the ground. He turned back and continued dragging Gu Shiqiu, who was still in the car.
Enduring the pain, Dong Yao struggled to climb up from the ground.
She rushed over and, from behind, grabbed his hair.
The middle-aged man hissed. Turning around, he directly flung her away.
Dong Yao stubbornly stood up again.
The middle-aged man’s eyes were full of viciousness. He grabbed Dong Yao by the neck and shoved her against the railing of the high bridge.
On the high bridge, wild winds raged, howling loudly.
Looking down, beneath the railing was the river.
The bridge was a full thirty meters above the water.
“You’re fucking asking to die. If you want to die, then go die!” The middle-aged man’s eyes turned ruthless. With force, he pushed her over the railing.
Dong Yao’s body hung in midair, and the feeling of weightlessness came over her.
It was over!
Dong Yao closed her eyes in resignation.
At that moment, a cold touch came around her wrist, followed by pain. She looked up and saw that Gu Shiqiu had grabbed her hand.
Dong Yao was left half-hanging outside the railing.
Because of the excessive force, Gu Shiqiu’s face was flushed with blood, and the veins on her arm bulged. Gritting her teeth, she said, “Don’t be afraid. I’ll pull you up.”
The middle-aged man raised the dagger and approached.
Dong Yao’s eyes widened. “Be careful!!!”
The middle-aged man lifted the dagger and stabbed it down into Gu Shiqiu’s shoulder.
