Foreseeing the Future: The Scheming Film Queen and I Got Married - Chapter 33
On the high bridge, the fierce wind howled endlessly, whipping their clothes back and forth.
Dong Yao hung from the railing, swaying on the verge of falling.
Gu Shiqiu gripped Dong Yao’s hand tightly, gritting her teeth as she struggled to hold on.
Amid the roaring wind, Dong Yao clearly heard the wet sound of the dagger stabbing into flesh, and then the sound of the dagger being pulled out.
Gu Shiqiu’s brows furrowed tightly, and she let out a muffled groan from the pain.
The hand gripping Dong Yao’s wrist loosened slightly, but very quickly, it tightened again—even tighter than before.
Blood flowed from Gu Shiqiu’s shoulder, dripping down along her arm.
It dripped onto Dong Yao’s face.
One drop. Two drops. Three drops…
Blood was warm.
“Gu…” Dong Yao’s voice trembled. “Gu Shiqiu.”
Gu Shiqiu forced out a strained smile and said, word by word, “It’s fine. Don’t be afraid.”
The moment Gu Shiqiu finished speaking, the middle-aged man holding the bloodstained dagger raised it again.
“Gu Shiqiu, I really couldn’t tell you were this loyal. Even like this, you still won’t let go of her? Are you risking your life to act kind?” The middle-aged man laughed lowly, his laugh eerie and sinister. “Then why don’t we play a game? Let go, and I won’t kill you. How about it?”
Gu Shiqiu did not speak, but the hand holding Dong Yao showed no intention of letting go.
The middle-aged man gradually lost patience. The dagger could strike Gu Shiqiu again at any moment.
Dong Yao looked at the bloody dagger, her heart full of terror.
She looked down. Although there was a river below, the height alone made her legs feel weak.
But in this situation, Dong Yao had no room to think too much. If Gu Shiqiu kept holding on to her like this, that man would stab her to death.
“Gu Shiqiu, let go,” Dong Yao said.
Gu Shiqiu shook her head.
Dong Yao said, “Let go! There’s a river below. I can swim. I won’t die. If you keep holding on to me like this, you’ll die!”
Gu Shiqiu still shook her head, refusing to let go no matter what.
Dong Yao cursed loudly, “Gu Shiqiu, are you sick in the head? I told you to let go!”
As she spoke, Dong Yao tried to pry Gu Shiqiu’s hand open, but she could not.
Helpless, Dong Yao could only pinch her hard.
But someone who would not let go even after being stabbed—how could she possibly let go because of Dong Yao’s painless little pinches?
“I won’t let go,” Gu Shiqiu said through gritted teeth. A tear slipped from her eye.
The tear fell onto Dong Yao’s cheek, mixing with the blood.
Dong Yao’s nose stung, and her eyes reddened too.
“I gave you two a chance, and you really started acting out a drama. Since that’s the case…” The middle-aged man gnashed his teeth. “Then die together!”
The middle-aged man raised the dagger high…
At that critical moment, a figure suddenly charged over, tackled the middle-aged man to the ground, and knocked the dagger from his hand.
It was the bodyguard.
With overwhelming advantage, the bodyguard pinned the man firmly to the ground. Then he took off the belt at his waist and directly tied the man’s hands behind his back.
After completely subduing the middle-aged man, the bodyguard quickly ran to Gu Shiqiu’s side and worked together with her to pull Dong Yao back up.
After confirming Dong Yao was safe, Gu Shiqiu seemed to have all her strength drained from her in an instant. Her legs went weak, and she slid down along the railing, falling seated on the ground.
“Gu Shiqiu!” Dong Yao looked at her arm, which was bleeding nonstop and had been completely dyed red, and did not know what to do.
The bodyguard was clearly much calmer. He tore off a piece of cloth and gave Gu Shiqiu simple pressure bandaging to stop the bleeding. While bandaging, he said to Dong Yao, “Call 120.”
Dong Yao snapped back to herself. She hurriedly returned to the car, found her phone, and dialed 120.
While waiting for the ambulance, Gu Shiqiu’s consciousness gradually blurred.
Dong Yao held her hand, unable to stop trembling. “Don’t sleep. The ambulance will be here soon. Don’t sleep.”
Gu Shiqiu’s face was pale. She smiled at her, seeming to want to say something, but her voice was very quiet and unclear.
Dong Yao leaned closer and heard her say, “Don’t be afraid. I’m fine.”
Dong Yao’s tears fell with a swish.
At a time like this, does whether I’m afraid still matter? The one who should be afraid is you. You nearly lost your life.
Gu Shiqiu could not bear seeing her cry like this. She wanted to comfort her, but she could no longer summon any strength or spirit. Her head tilted to the side, and she completely passed out.
Standing outside the operating room, looking at the red light that read “In Surgery,” Dong Yao felt somewhat dazed.
Where had things gone wrong? She had clearly been trying to stop the incident from happening. Why, in the end, had things only become worse and worse?
Gu Shiqiu would be fine, right? Dong Yao looked at the tightly shut operating room doors and suddenly felt uncertain.
“Miss Dong, Miss Dong…” The bodyguard called her four or five times.
Dong Yao dazedly came back to herself and looked toward him.
The bodyguard said, “Miss Dong, you don’t need to worry too much. From my experience, that wound won’t take her life. You should go wash your face first.”
Dong Yao did not move.
“Go. I’ll keep watch here,” the bodyguard said.
Dong Yao pressed her lips together, nodded, then turned and walked toward the restroom.
Along the way, she felt as if her soul had left her body.
She leaned over the sink, raised her head, and looked at herself in the mirror. Her face was covered in blood, hideous and terrifying.
All this blood belonged to Gu Shiqiu.
“Gu Shiqiu, are you sick in the head? I told you to let go.”
“I won’t let go.”
Dong Yao recalled that scene on the high bridge. She remembered Gu Shiqiu’s determined gaze.
She turned on the faucet. The sound of running water echoed through the restroom. She cupped a handful of water and splashed it onto her face.
The icy water made her a little clearer.
Gu Shiqiu had held on to her so tightly. That sentence, “I won’t let go,” and that unwavering appearance replayed in her mind on a loop.
Why did Gu Shiqiu do that? In that situation, why had she refused to let go?
If their positions had been reversed, if Dong Yao had been the one holding on to Gu Shiqiu, who was about to fall, could she have done what Gu Shiqiu did?
Dong Yao cupped another handful of water and splashed it onto her face.
She did not know. Maybe… she could not.
She had come here specifically with the goal of stopping the accident. But with this result now, had she helped Gu Shiqiu, or had she unknowingly harmed her?
Dong Yao half leaned over the sink, her head aching faintly.
Seeing that her expression was off, a passerby asked, “Are you all right? Do you need me to call a doctor for you?”
Dong Yao straightened and shook her head. “I’m fine. Thank you.”
The passerby looked at her twice. Seeing that she truly did not seem to have a major problem, they left.
Dong Yao looked at herself in the mirror. The bloodstains had already been washed clean. What remained was a bluish-purple mark, the bruise left by the middle-aged man’s punch.
She wiped the water from her face, took a deep breath, then slowly exhaled.
When she returned outside the operating room, the surgery had not ended. The bodyguard stood to the side making a phone call, probably notifying people.
Dong Yao sat on a resting bench nearby, staring blankly into space.
Very soon, Xiaowen arrived, and Gu Shiqiu’s manager Jiang Qi also came.
Jiang Qi asked, “What happened?”
The bodyguard said, “The person has already been handed over to the police. The exact situation isn’t clear yet.”
Jiang Qi looked toward the operating room. “How is she?”
“She was stabbed in the shoulder, but I looked at it. It isn’t too serious. You can rest assured,” the bodyguard said.
Hearing this, Jiang Qi finally let out a breath of relief, as if a heavy burden had been lifted.
Jiang Qi noticed Dong Yao and asked, “And this is…”
The bodyguard said, “Teacher Gu’s friend.”
As soon as he finished speaking, the operating room doors creaked open.
Hearing the sound, Dong Yao stood up and quickly jogged over.
Dong Yao asked, “Doctor, how is she?”
The doctor removed his mask. “There’s nothing serious. The wound is a little deep, but it didn’t hit anything vital. She just lost too much blood and will need to rest properly for a while.”
Only after hearing this from the doctor did Dong Yao’s suspended heart finally settle slightly.
Gu Shiqiu was pushed out of the operating room. Lying on the hospital bed, her eyes were tightly shut, and her face was deathly pale.
Dong Yao’s heart seemed to be stabbed by a needle at the sight of her, aching sharply.
While Gu Shiqiu slept, Dong Yao stayed by the bedside the whole time. Xiaowen told her to go back and rest for a while, but Dong Yao shook her head.
She wanted to wait for Gu Shiqiu to wake up.
The news that Gu Shiqiu had encountered a vicious incident somehow leaked from somewhere. Reporters surrounded the hospital outside, and online, it stirred up a storm of blood and rain.
Jiang Qi was busy handling all these matters, including the work that Gu Shiqiu’s injury would delay. She had to negotiate adjustments with business partners and ran around until she was overwhelmed.
Dong Yao could not help with anything. She could only stay by Gu Shiqiu’s bedside and wait for her to wake.
Looking at the sleeping person, Dong Yao reached out and smoothed away the furrow between her brows.
Was it because the wound hurt too much? Even while sleeping, why was Gu Shiqiu always frowning?
Gu Shiqiu’s eyelashes trembled slightly, and she opened her eyes. The sharp pain in her shoulder made her frown.
Her throat was dry. Clearly, it was her shoulder that had been injured, but at this moment, she felt as though every part of her body ached.
Her gaze moved downward, and she saw Dong Yao asleep by the bedside.
Gu Shiqiu’s brows relaxed. That vivid pain seemed to ease by more than half.
Gu Shiqiu wanted to reach out and brush away the loose strands of hair on Dong Yao’s forehead, but she pulled at her shoulder wound and hissed in pain.
Creak.
The hospital room door was pushed open.
Seeing Gu Shiqiu half sitting up, Xiaowen said, “Sister Shiqiu…”
Gu Shiqiu placed her index finger against her pale lips, making a gesture for silence.
Xiaowen looked at the person asleep beside the hospital bed and understood, stopping her voice.
Gu Shiqiu pointed at the coat rack to the side.
Xiaowen hurried over, took down a blanket, and following Gu Shiqiu’s intention, gently covered Dong Yao with it.
After covering Dong Yao with the blanket, Xiaowen tactfully withdrew from the hospital room.
Using her uninjured right hand, Gu Shiqiu tucked the loose strands of hair near Dong Yao’s face behind her ear.
Looking at her sleeping face, a hint of a smile appeared on Gu Shiqiu’s slightly pale face.
After an unknown amount of time, Dong Yao’s little finger moved. Then she opened her eyes.
The moment she opened her eyes, she saw Gu Shiqiu smiling gently at her.
Dong Yao was still dazed from sleep. Thinking she was dreaming, she called out to her, “Gu Shiqiu.”
Gu Shiqiu’s smile deepened. “Mm.”
Dong Yao called again, “Gu Shiqiu.”
Gu Shiqiu answered again, “I’m here.”
Dong Yao’s eyes moved, and her expression went blank for a moment. Then she suddenly sat up in shock.
But her legs were numb. She cried out, “Aiya, aiya,” clutching her thigh.
Gu Shiqiu laughed softly.
Enduring the sore, tingling pain of her numb legs, Dong Yao looked at her. “You’re awake. Does your shoulder still hurt?”
As she spoke, Dong Yao’s gaze fell on Gu Shiqiu’s bandaged shoulder.
Gu Shiqiu smiled. “Compared with the pain of your numb legs, mine should still be all right.”
Dong Yao froze, then said, “You can still joke. Looks like it doesn’t hurt that much.”
Gu Shiqiu neither agreed nor disagreed, only gave an “mm” and said, “It doesn’t hurt. Don’t worry.”
How could she possibly not worry?
Dong Yao said, “I’ll go call the doctor and have them come check on you.”
Dong Yao dragged her numb legs, limping toward the door. Just as she took one step, a slightly cool touch came around her wrist.
Gu Shiqiu grabbed her hand and said, “Don’t go.”
