My Omega Is A Top Heavenly Master (GL) - Chapter 17
“What happened?” Mu Baicheng asked worriedly when she noticed Qin Xiyao’s expression change.
Ever since she kissed Qin Xiyao, Mu Baicheng had felt strangely guilty.
It would be impossible to claim that she did not like Qin Xiyao.
Yet insisting that she already liked her deeply did not feel entirely right either.
Mu Baicheng was hopelessly conflicted.
“Nothing,” Qin Xiyao answered.
The atmosphere between them was somewhat awkward.
Qin Xiyao had initially considered leaving without waking Mu Baicheng this time. On the one hand, her heart remained unsettled. On the other, the broken formation had made the estate far more dangerous.
Mu Baicheng had at least been clever enough to bring Dudu.
The poor dog had been sleeping peacefully when Mu Baicheng forcibly dragged it awake. Even now, Dudu was still yawning on her lap.
Liu Sheng sat silently in the front passenger seat, his expression frighteningly dark.
He never imagined Huang Zhengyan would interfere.
It seemed the Celestial Masters’ Residence was no longer managed as strictly as it once had been, allowing a third-generation disciple to disregard direct instructions like this.
Only yesterday, Liu Sheng had clearly told Huang Zhengyan and the others that he no longer required their assistance.
After seeing their performance inside the estate, Liu Sheng had unquestionably been disappointed.
Aside from Song Jinran, the third-generation disciples of the Celestial Masters’ Residence truly were a collection of failures.
Sitting in the back, Qin Xiyao looked toward Liu Sheng.
“Mr. Liu, you are not suited to entering the estate again. Please wait outside this time.”
Liu Sheng trembled, feeling a trace of fear.
This young woman had seen through his intentions so easily.
He had indeed planned to enter with them. He could not stop worrying about his wife.
“I understand your concern. However, shouldn’t you be investigating the origin of this property now? If you don’t resolve that problem, you will encounter similar trouble again in the future.”
Qin Xiyao’s words made Liu Sheng’s already gloomy expression even darker.
She was right.
It was time to sever ties with those bloodsuckers.
“Thank you, young lady.”
“Father, Xiyao is a little immortal,” Liu Suhong corrected him.
Liu Sheng choked on her words.
No matter how he looked at her, Qin Xiyao seemed to have only recently reached adulthood.
Calling her a little immortal would feel extremely unnatural.
“Titles and physical appearances are equally illusory,” Qin Xiyao said indifferently.
Mu Baicheng secretly glanced at her.
That physical appearance certainly was not illusory.
By the time they reached the estate, Song Jinran had already been waiting outside for more than half an hour.
She held a compass while her yin-yang eyes studied the baleful energy surging into the sky above the estate.
Compared with two days ago, it had become even more terrifying.
“You should not enter today,” Qin Xiyao said calmly.
Song Jinran smiled self-mockingly and put away her compass.
If her father had not asked her to inspect the situation, she truly would not have returned to these muddy waters.
The blame lay with that useless Huang Zhengyan.
He had clearly already lost to Qin Xiyao, yet he still believed himself exceptional and came here to court death.
“I’m only here to collect a certain person’s corpse.”
Song Jinran had no respect for a fool like Huang Zhengyan, who did not understand the difference between courage and suicide.
She openly made it clear that she would not interfere again.
Besides, the estate’s present condition had already exceeded her ability to intervene.
Qin Xiyao nodded.
Silver magical power drew a gigantic talisman through the air.
“Following. Supreme success. Favorable to remain steadfast. No blame.”[1]
The moment she finished speaking, silver light erupted brilliantly.
Even an ordinary person like Liu Suhong could clearly see the enormous spiritual talisman suspended in the sky.
“My goodness, Xiyao! You really are an immortal!”
Liu Suhong felt that her mother’s rescue was now assured.
This sister genuinely possessed divine abilities.
Song Jinran stared at the enormous talisman in astonishment.
Qin Xiyao’s Daoist mastery was already profound, yet her power also contained the strength of accumulated merit.
Who exactly was she?
Qin Xiyao turned her slender hand, and a longsword appeared from thin air.
The phoenix engraved upon its blade spread its wings, appearing ready to soar directly into the heavens.
Qin Xiyao turned slightly toward Mu Baicheng.
“You may remain outside as well.”
“No.”
How could Mu Baicheng possibly feel at ease?
The last time Qin Xiyao entered, she had fallen unconscious for so long.
Mu Baicheng tightly hugged Dudu.
“I won’t become a burden.”
Qin Xiyao did not answer.
She stepped forward and entered the estate first.
The sky and earth instantly changed color.
The blue irises throughout the estate released a ghastly azure light. If not for their different color, they would have resembled red spider lilies blooming along the road to the Yellow Springs.
Beneath the crescent moon hanging in the sky, the flowers exuded the aura of death.
Qin Xiyao’s black hair turned silver-white in an instant.
Her cold gaze settled upon the flowerbed ahead, and she slowly approached.
Huang Zhengyan lay faceup among the flowers, his complexion ashen.
The peachwood sword in his hand had broken into two pieces, and no one could tell whether he remained alive.
Qin Xiyao looked at him with disgust.
If not for this fool’s impulsiveness last night, her formation could have significantly weakened the baleful energy here over three days.
“A Daoist peachwood sword was stained with an innocent person’s blood. It deserved to break.”
Qin Xiyao turned her hand and sent a silver seal into the space between Huang Zhengyan’s brows.
Clarity gradually returned to his vacant eyes.
Once he recognized the person before him, he pushed himself upright.
“Qin Xiyao? What exactly happened?”
His head was still throbbing, and he could not remember anything that had previously occurred.
“Hold out your hand.”
Huang Zhengyan stood in confusion and extended his palm toward Qin Xiyao.
Silver light gathered there, gradually forming a character meaning peace and protection.
The writing looked unusual.
It could not be considered entirely Daoist, for it also carried traces of power born from incense and worship.
“Follow the light in your palm and leave. I’ll send you my bank account number. Don’t forget the one million yuan.”
Without looking back, Qin Xiyao walked toward the mansion standing behind the courtyard.
If this man had not owed her one million yuan, she would never have bothered saving someone so determined to court death.
Fortunately, she had arrived in time.
Otherwise, his body would already have gone completely cold.
Just like last time, Mu Baicheng and Qin Xiyao were separated the instant they entered the estate.
Fortunately, Mu Baicheng still had Dudu.
“Haah…”
Dudu yawned.
It was absolutely exhausted.
Why had Baibai brought it to a place like this so late at night?
Hadn’t she been kissing the Immortal at home?
The little dog had even thought itself considerate for not interrupting them.
Who could have expected Mu Baicheng to suddenly drag it out of its bed?
After looking around at the familiar surroundings, Dudu finally understood.
Mu Baicheng had brought it here to perform unpaid labor.
“Whimper, awooo!”
Dudu complained unhappily.
Humans nowadays were always making dogs handle their dirty work.
“All right, all right. I’ll buy you some canned food when we get home,” Mu Baicheng said, patting its head.
Canned food?
Dudu tilted its head.
Who wants something like that? I’m a spirit! What would I do with canned food? I want the immortal pills condensed inside the Immortal’s spiritual sea! I want merit!
“Fine. I’ll listen to you in the future, all right?”
Mu Baicheng finally understood her position in the family hierarchy.
There were three living beings in their household, and her status was even lower than Dudu’s.
Dudu sniffed the air and barked twice, reluctantly accepting Mu Baicheng’s promise.
Its newly enhanced sense of smell searched for Liu Sheng’s wife’s scent.
Before they entered, Liu Sheng had given Qin Xiyao one of his wife’s belongings.
Dudu had taken the opportunity to memorize her scent.
That scent already carried the odor of decay.
This woman did not have much time left to live.
Mu Baicheng followed behind Dudu.
The mansion was extremely dark, making the glowing dog exceptionally conspicuous.
Their surroundings were terrifyingly quiet, leaving Mu Baicheng increasingly nervous.
Why did entering this time feel even more unsettling than before?
Her feet landed on the wooden floor, producing a succession of tapping sounds.
Mu Baicheng’s heartbeat followed their rhythm.
In such a silent place, even the smallest noise became infinitely magnified.
That was precisely what happened to Mu Baicheng’s footsteps.
Tap, tap, tap.
Tap, tap, tap.
Another set of footsteps suddenly overlapped hers.
A chill ran down Mu Baicheng’s spine, and she immediately stopped.
“Dudu.”
She called to the dog ahead, but Dudu continued walking as though it had not heard her.
Panic seized Mu Baicheng.
She hurried after it, yet no matter how hard she tried, she could not catch up.
Tap, tap, tap.
Her feet now sounded as though they were stepping through rainwater, sending up splashes with every step.
Splash, splash.
Tap, tap, tap.
The noises rose and fell throughout the hollow mansion.
More than one set of footsteps surrounded her.
Whenever Mu Baicheng stopped, the sounds stopped as well.
An icy sensation traveled from her spine to the ends of her hair.
Something was behind her.
Mu Baicheng realized her situation had become dangerous.
Dudu was only a short distance ahead, yet she could not make it hear her.
She and Dudu seemed to have been separated into different worlds.
Had Dudu not noticed anything wrong?
Mu Baicheng could only hope it would realize the problem soon.
Then she might still have a chance.
She did not dare stop walking, terrified that the thing behind her would catch up the instant she did.
Dudu finally realized something was wrong.
When it looked back, Mu Baicheng had disappeared into thin air.
Dudu began barking anxiously.
“Woof! Woof! Woof!”
The little dog’s voice rang like a great bronze bell dispersing the darkness, shattering the shadows layer by layer.
But it was not enough.
Mu Baicheng remained trapped somewhere Dudu could not see, separated from it as though they stood at opposite ends of the world.
Dudu barked for a long time but still could not summon Mu Baicheng back.
We’re doomed! Baibai is missing!
“Dudu?”
The moment it heard Qin Xiyao’s voice, Dudu hurried toward her and continuously circled her ankles.
“Whimper! Baibai disappeared!”
Hearing Dudu’s voice inside her spiritual sea, Qin Xiyao’s gaze darkened.
Silver light erupted around her.
The surrounding darkness shattered piece by piece like a dark curtain being torn apart.
Amid the silver radiance, a pitch-black door appeared before Qin Xiyao.
Without hesitation, she swung her longsword and split it open.
The room beyond was darker than the outside world.
A completely withered woman huddled in a corner of the bed.
Comparing her with the photograph Liu Sheng had shown her, Qin Xiyao recognized her as his wife, Zhao Jing.
Her life force was almost entirely extinguished.
Black mist wrapped around Zhao Jing’s body.
Her face was deathly pale, and both hands clutched tightly at her throat.
“Why?” Zhao Jing asked with difficulty.
A woman dressed entirely in black stood before her.
Her skin was ghastly pale, and she wore a black qipao. Her fingertips were stained with black balsam dye.
Zhao Jing did not understand why the woman suddenly wanted to kill her.
Only a short time ago, she had promised they would remain together forever.
“Didn’t we agree?”
“Who agreed to anything with you?” the dark figure interrupted sharply.
A shrill laugh echoed through the air.
“Do you think I’m stupid enough to mistake whether she was an Alpha or an Omega?”
“She left because of you, didn’t she?”
“She disappeared without leaving a single word!”
“Evil creature, stop!”
Qin Xiyao sent out a magical seal.
The black energy surrounding the woman scattered, and she slammed into the wall with a loud crash, revealing her true appearance.
She wore a black qipao and had styled her hair in the fashion of the Republican era.
She was a female ghost from that period.
“Mind your own business.”
The whites of the ghost’s eyes turned black.
Baleful energy surged around her and transformed into blades that flew directly toward Zhao Jing.
Qin Xiyao raised her longsword horizontally and blocked the attack.
A strange, cold laugh emerged from the ghost’s throat.
“Cultivator, you’ve lost.”
Surprise appeared on Qin Xiyao’s face.
The next instant, the surroundings distorted.
A deep vortex emerged inside the black room.
Caught off guard, Qin Xiyao was dragged inside by a powerful force.
Nearby, Mu Baicheng could only watch helplessly as Qin Xiyao disappeared from the room.
“Qin Xiyao!”
But it was already too late.
Mu Baicheng herself remained trapped.
“Help me. Tell her I didn’t abandon her.”
An ethereal female voice sounded behind Mu Baicheng.
A slender hand with clearly defined knuckles settled upon her shoulder.
The voice sounded extraordinarily weak, as though it might disappear at any moment.
“Who are you?”
“You’re the only person who can help me.”
The voice seemed to come from somewhere far away.
Mu Baicheng’s eyelids suddenly grew unbearably heavy.
Dudu was still circling before her, yet she no longer possessed the strength to make a sound.
Qin Xiyao…
Before her vision disappeared completely, Mu Baicheng heard the voice speak again.
“You’re the only person who can hear me.”
“Please…tell her I didn’t abandon her.”
Mu Baicheng’s world fell entirely into darkness.
It felt as though gravity had ceased to exist, leaving her body floating in midair.
A white vortex appeared beneath her out of nowhere.
Without warning, gravity returned.
Mu Baicheng plunged into the vortex…
