Seducing and Flirting with Boss O While Stockpiling in the Apocalypse (GL) - Chapter 56
Luo Sheng tied her long hair back into a sleek, efficient ponytail. She tapped the tabletop thoughtfully, then shook her head. “Of course I’m not sure. But since it’s a temporary shelter established by the authorities, it’s a relatively safer bet for us compared to everywhere else.”
Su Rong nodded in agreement. “Nowhere is safe right now. Most of the houses around here are submerged. Even if we find a few habitable units, with zombies everywhere and animals mutating, there’s no guarantee we won’t be attacked by another beast like today. The most important thing about an official site is… they have firearms. That’s a thousand times more powerful than the cold weapons we’re holding.”
Nan Chu countered, “But that place will definitely be crowded. We’ll be under constant regulation, and it won’t be as free as living on our own… I actually think staying on this yacht is quite nice.”
“Wouldn’t that be too conspicuous?” Liu Lin couldn’t help but join the discussion. “Floating on the water like this, wouldn’t we be an easy target?”
Qiao Bai and Yang Suitong remained silent, unable to think of a better plan, only silently agreeing with the various concerns being raised.
Nan Shuwan, supporting her injured arm, remained quite nonchalant. “What’s there to fear? We’ll deal with whatever comes. With all these chaotic obstacles, haven’t we managed to survive this long?”
“Your mindset is truly something,” Luo Sheng said, slightly amused by her. “Even though you’re practically a ‘One-Armed Hero’ right now.”
In truth, Luo Sheng felt the same way. As long as they were together, she felt much more at ease regardless of the location. In the apocalypse, she had tasted the benefits of unity. Her mindset had shifted; she no longer insisted on going it alone, preferring to analyze the situation as it came.
Actually, her “Materialization” summon could turn into a house as well as a yacht, but her villa was only two stories high. With the water this deep, there was simply nowhere to put it. The group spent quite a while deliberating, wasting more time.
Seeing that no one had anything else to say, Luo Sheng leaned back in her chair and used her mind to engage the autopilot, letting the yacht proceed at a slow, steady pace. She didn’t forget to sign in within the space. Since it was still the dead of night and pitch black outside, she closed her eyes halfway, preparing for a short nap.
The others also began to yawn, feeling drowsy. The interior of the yacht was large and even had beds, but everyone just half-lay on the sofas to rest their eyes, too tired to argue further.
After an unknown amount of time, Luo Sheng felt something ringing in her ear—a beep-beep-beep like an alarm. She slowly opened her eyes, her brain still foggy from sleep. She hadn’t expected to actually fall into a deep slumber.
Then she saw a line of small text on the screen: [Warning! Ten minutes remaining until Yacht Materialization ends!]
Luo Sheng was instantly awake, bolting upright from her seat. She leaned into the screen, processing it for a few seconds. Damn! How did I overlook this!!
The trip to the old building Nan Shuwan bought had only taken half an hour, and her storage space originally had a three-hour limit. It seemed the materialized tools summoned out here followed the same rule as the pocket dimension—they only lasted for three hours.
Luo Sheng slapped her forehead, full of self-reproach. She should have realized! But this space was a bit of a trap—why didn’t it warn her earlier? It only started the alarm with ten minutes left!
Panic set in. She manipulated the yacht to speed up while shouting to wake the group on the sofas. At the same time, she scanned the surroundings for any building where they could temporarily take shelter.
[Warning! Three minutes remaining until Yacht Materialization ends!]
Luo Sheng’s brow furrowed at the sound of the alarm, her heart racing. She steered the yacht through a sharp turn, bypassing several submerged houses. Finally, at the last moment, she spotted a building rising above the waterline. She pushed the yacht to its limit.
Time ran out. The yacht vanished instantly, turning back into the golden ring on Luo Sheng’s wrist. She found herself standing inside a hallway entrance, clutching Luo Xiaoli’s hand. Nan Shuwan, however, fell directly onto Luo Sheng, using her as a human cushion.
“Cough—cough—” Luo Sheng felt like her lungs were being squeezed out by the impact. She patted Nan Shuwan’s back urgently. “Get up, quick.”
Nan Shuwan held her arm, feeling as if it were about to snap again. The pain made her see stars, and she lay on Luo Sheng for a long while, unable to move.
The others were even unluckier, falling straight into the water. Fortunately, the distance was short, and they grabbed onto the edge of the floor. Nan Chu was still dazed from sleep; she swallowed a few mouthfuls of water before even realizing what had happened. She looked completely disoriented. “Am I dreaming? Where’s our yacht? How did we end up in the water??”
“Aiya, day after day, there’s never a moment to be clean. Soaked again.” Nan Chu complained, sneezing a few times. “So you’re saying your yacht only lasts for three hours?”
“Mhm. It should be three hours per day. The time refreshes after midnight.” Luo Sheng handed everyone a cup of dissolved cold medicine. They were currently staying in a small room with a broken door. There were two rotting corpses inside, which she had no choice but to toss out.
“It seems the plan to live on the yacht is a total bust. Only three hours… what now?”
Su Rong sighed. “We’ll have to wait here until midnight before we can set out again.”
Luo Sheng nodded, checking the time. it was only about seven in the morning; they had a long wait ahead of them. “At midnight, we’ll leave immediately. I’ll push the yacht to full speed. We’ll try to get out of District B first, find a place to crash for a night, and continue the next day. We should reach the destination soon after that.”
Although the three hours of Materialization were spent, the storage dimension still had three hours of access. Luo Sheng retrieved some winter gear and even burned some coal for warmth. She also brought out plenty of self-heating rice, hotpots, and water, leaving them on the table for whenever anyone got hungry.
Time soon reached noon. Having eaten their fill, the group huddled around the fire. The room was damp, messy, and smelled terrible; only the area around the sofa was bearable. They leaned against each other to rest, the minutes ticking by in the silent wait.
Liu Lin rested her head on the sofa. Turning her head, she could see the view outside—several trees, small brick houses, and a slowly approaching… inflatable raft?
Her heart skipped a beat. Thinking her eyes were playing tricks on her, she propped herself up and leaned out the window. There was indeed a raft with a group of people in matching uniforms, wearing hats and badges.
If she wasn’t mistaken, that… that looked like a Rescue Team?!
Liu Lin’s expression instantly turned to one of joy. She nearly shrieked with excitement. Without thinking, she waved her hand several times toward the outside as if she had made a monumental discovery, then immediately nudged Nan Chu, who was dozing beside her. “Look! The rescue team is here!!”
Everyone snapped awake at those words, their faces filled with confusion. Nan Chu and Qiao Bai pressed themselves against the window, seeing the familiar neon green uniforms—it was exactly like the ones shown on the news!
The people on the raft noticed them at the window and waved back in response, then slowly steered toward the building.
Luo Sheng and Nan Shuwan stepped to the window to observe closely. The group’s hat brims were pulled low, and they wore masks, hiding their features. Their genders could only be guessed by their silhouettes. Luo Sheng felt a faint sense of unease, though she couldn’t pinpoint why.
She locked eyes with Nan Shuwan, seeing the same suspicion in her gaze. “Don’t you think it’s a bit strange? Why would a rescue team suddenly appear here?”
Luo Sheng agreed. “Mhm… it is a bit odd. And I don’t see any rescue supplies on that raft. We should be careful.”
But the door to their temporary room was already broken and couldn’t be closed. Before Luo Sheng could say anything more, the raft had pulled up to the hallway entrance. Nan Chu and Qiao Bai, faces beaming with joy, went forward enthusiastically to meet them.
Seven or eight people in uniforms arrived at their doorway. A tall, muscular woman stood in the back, while a girl with straight bangs stood in the lead. She crinkled her eyes and said warmly, “It hasn’t been easy, has it? I didn’t expect to find survivors here. Everyone, quickly gather your supplies and—”
She suddenly stopped mid-sentence. The air seemed to freeze, and a heavy silence fell over the room.
She had noticed Luo Sheng standing in the back, and Luo Sheng had noticed her.
The moment she spoke, Luo Sheng’s gaze was locked on her. Her entire body went rigid, as if her heart were being squeezed. She stared unblinkingly; she would recognize that voice and that tone even if they were turned to ash.
The other woman’s expression also changed abruptly, a flash of utter shock crossing her eyes. Then, she dropped the intentionally sweet tone. The air around them seemed to drop a few degrees as her gaze swept over them, sharp as a knife.
She bypassed the two people blocking the way and walked forward a few steps. Slowly, she took off her mask and hat, revealing a dimpled smile. Lin Fu’s face was now presented directly to Luo Sheng.
She tilted her head, her smile sweet as if she were a long-lost friend. “Luo Sheng, long time no see. I hope you’ve been well.”
