A Cannon-Fodder Omega’s Self-Saving Guide - Chapter 12
“And then you’re going to tell me to live on?”
Xia Weichen did not push Yin Yin away. The corner of her lips curved into a smile, but it was unusually desolate, carrying a bone-chilling coldness that even her gentle voice could not hide.
“Sister, how much do you know?”
“I’m sorry.”
That afternoon, just after Yin Yin returned to her room, she felt that leaving directly had been rather inappropriate. She had wanted to go downstairs and explain things to Xia Weichen, but by accident, she had heard the conversation between Xia Weichen and Doctor Xu in the consultation room, whose door had not been closed.
Only then did she realize that Xia Weichen’s breakup with Lin Langruo might not have been because Xia Weichen was fickle and had carelessly fallen for someone else. Rather, Xia Weichen might have already sensed Lin Langruo’s malicious intentions.
“I’ve let Sister see something laughable.” Xia Weichen gently shook her head, her voice slow. “I can probably guess that Lin Langruo bought off my previous doctor. No, that’s not right. Actually, Lin Langruo cheated with my doctor. The two of them worked together…”
Xia Weichen could not continue.
She knew very well that she did not have much time left.
But these things were matters she could not tell her parents. Although telling them might possibly cause Lin Langruo to be driven out of the Xia family, that possibility was extremely slim.
First, the Xia family placed great importance on reputation. Second, her father always remembered that life-saving grace. Lin Langruo was the only bloodline of his savior.
Even if she said it, there was a very high chance it would be lightly brushed aside. At most, her broken engagement with Lin Langruo would be officially acknowledged. But one had to know that, legally, Lin Langruo was the Xia family’s adopted daughter.
Since she was an adopted daughter, if Xia Weichen died, Lin Langruo would likewise be a legal heir.
Her father was indeed open and upright in his conduct. After Lin Langruo came of age, he returned all the shares Father Lin had held to Lin Langruo in full. Added to the various connections and resources Lin Langruo had gained through the Xia family over the years, all of these were Lin Langruo’s gradually strengthening wings.
What Xia Weichen had originally thought was that with herself standing in front of Lin Langruo, no matter what, Lin Langruo could only watch helplessly as she took control of the Xia family. Once Xia Weichen truly held power, she would use some excuse to drive Lin Langruo out of Linqi, preserving the Xia family’s reputation while crushing Lin Langruo’s ambition.
But now, this sudden additional variable gave her a strong sense of powerlessness. Was she really only able to watch herself die while Lin Langruo seized the entire Xia family?
Xia Weichen finally calmed herself down. At that moment, she heard the system’s voice.
“Host, Host! The original author has discovered that Host’s actions have changed. In order to prevent bugs, they urgently added supplementary plot.” The system’s voice was very anxious. It quickly transmitted the newly added setting into Xia Weichen’s consciousness.
Xia Weichen skimmed through it roughly. The supplementary setting was generally that, in the near future, she would be sent to the hospital for treatment due to intermittent aftereffects. Lin Langruo would return to her side and behave perfectly in front of her parents. Because of that, every accusation she made against Lin Langruo would become the hallucinations of someone mentally confused. No one would believe her words anymore.
Fortunately, because of the upbringing she had received since childhood, Xia Weichen did not curse the author’s ancestors for eighteen generations in her heart. Since she already knew the plot that was about to arrive, she could still take the initiative to avoid it.
The most urgent matter was to prevent others from finding out about the blood clot in her brain.
Xia Weichen turned her gaze toward Yin Yin.
Although this newly updated part of the plot had not provided any additional information she wanted to know, looking at the overall situation, Yin Yin was still trustworthy.
“Host, don’t lose heart. Although this world was created by the author, once a sub-world is created, it draws the attention of the upper-level space. That means the development of the sub-world is no longer completely in the creator’s hands. Host still has a chance.” The system hurriedly seized the opening to comfort her. “Host can still change your fate. I can feel it—the breakthrough point lies with Yin Yin.”
Seeing that Xia Weichen was finally listening to it, the system continued adding, “In this world’s rating, if we use Lin Langruo’s influence as the protagonist as 1 for reference, then Yin Yin’s influence is 0.998, only slightly lower than Lin Langruo’s. The higher the rating, the greater the influence on the worldline. However, in terms of variance value, Yin Yin is 0.01 higher than Lin Langruo.”
“Variance value?”
“This is information that was updated together with the earlier data. I only learned about it a few minutes before Host,” the system quickly explained. “Variance value refers to the possible ability to affect the entire space. Once this space develops its own subjective consciousness, it won’t always operate according to the original author’s will. The original author can only influence it. The higher the variance value, the greater the possibility of interfering with the original will. Right now, the detected person with the highest variance value is Yin Yin.”
“So that’s how it is.” Xia Weichen let out a long sigh in her heart. “Luckily, there isn’t completely no hope.”
Since there was still room to turn things around, she could not let it slip away.
“Host still has me now,” the system said worriedly, afraid Xia Weichen would sink into despair. “I will always help Host. I can sense that if Host stays by Yin Yin’s side, the possibility of changing the plot again is very high.”
When Xia Weichen opened her eyes again, she finally realized that Yin Yin had been holding her hand the entire time. She knew very well that this was more because Yin Yin sympathized with her, not because of anything else.
For someone like her, who could die at any moment, Yin Yin probably would find it hard to refuse some of her requests, right?
“Sister, are you worried about me?” Xia Weichen gently held Yin Yin’s hand in return, her voice soft and warm. “I’m fine. Sister doesn’t need to worry.”
Yin Yin did not let go of her. Xia Weichen took the opportunity to lean her head against Yin Yin’s shoulder. Faced with her intimate behavior, Yin Yin’s body only trembled slightly. Other than that, there was no other reaction.
She also did not push Xia Weichen away with the same distance as before.
“Sister, can you hug me?”
Xia Weichen made the request softly, like sleep-talking.
Yin Yin did as she asked and reached out to hug her.
Their breathing intertwined. The room was so quiet that it seemed only this sound remained. Xia Weichen rested her head against Yin Yin’s soft hair, feeling the warmth and vibrant life flowing from Yin Yin’s body.
According to the plot, she only had half a month. Half a month later, she would faint during a press conference she attended. At that time, her condition would be exposed to the public, and every word she said could be regarded as the ravings of someone whose mind was unclear.
After all, how many people would believe the words of someone whose brain had a problem?
“Miss Xia, I will help you.” Yin Yin’s firm voice traveled through her soft hair and into her ear.
Xia Weichen froze. Could this be considered Yin Yin’s promise?
In the plot she knew, Yin Yin, as the major villain who could survive until the very end, had one particularly brilliant trait: she rarely made promises, but once she spoke, she would act. Anything she agreed to do would always be fulfilled.
“Sister?”
By now, Yin Yin could roughly guess the reason Xia Weichen had broken up with Lin Langruo. She could also understand that Xia Weichen most likely hated Lin Langruo. Although she did not know why Xia Weichen had sought her out, at the very least, Xia Weichen had resolved the immediate financial crisis of her company.
No matter whether there was spite or use involved, this favor was one she still had to repay.
Yin Yin spoke word by word, serious and solemn. “If Miss Xia needs me to do anything, I will not shirk my duty.”
She took Xia Weichen’s hand, lightly tapped it with her fingertip, and wrote the character “Lin” on it.
