Chapter 19
Clearly, Auntie Lu did not buy Lin Langruo’s nonsense at all. She flatly retorted, “I think you’re the one with something wrong in the head. Stop making baseless rumors that our young miss has a problem with her brain. As for you, you ungrateful traitor, you were all lovey-dovey with our young miss while still hooking up with some shady Omega outside. What, do you think all the Alphas under heaven are dead and you’re the only one left?”
Lin Langruo was rendered speechless by Auntie Lu’s rapid-fire scolding. On top of that, she already had a guilty conscience, so facing Auntie Lu, she could not get a word in at all.
“Miss Lin, our Xia family values reputation very much. The reason we haven’t made this matter public is to leave Miss Lin some dignity. Miss Lin had better not refuse the face we’re giving you. Our young miss is the only heir of this branch of the Xia family. The Alpha she chooses must also be worthy of her. Someone like Miss Lin should forget it.”
Auntie Lu’s tone left no room for negotiation. Xia Weichen could not help secretly admiring her. Auntie Lu was practically saying everything she wanted to say for her.
With the education Xia Weichen had received since childhood, it was very difficult for her to say such things out loud. For the sake of the Xia family’s so-called reputation, she had to pay special attention to her words and actions in public and could not afford the slightest lapse.
Because of that, she envied someone like Ming Lanyi, who could freely play around in the world. Ming Lanyi’s willfulness and freedom were things Xia Weichen could never obtain, even if she spent her whole life trying.
Xia Weichen had very good hearing. Amid Auntie Lu and Lin Langruo’s argument, she vaguely heard the sound of vehicles roaring over. At that moment, Yin Yin’s phone rang.
Yin Yin did not avoid her. She stood where she was and switched off speaker mode.
“Xiao Yin, I’m almost there.”
Yin Yin gave a sound of acknowledgment. Xia Weichen had just been about to ask who it was, but very quickly, Yin Yin’s fingertip pressed against her lips, signaling for her not to make a sound.
Xia Weichen immediately closed her mouth.
“This Alpha is highly aggressive. There is a possibility she may lose control. Be careful.”
“Understood.”
Before the voice on the phone had faded, an aggressive lily fragrance rushed straight into Xia Weichen’s head. She instinctively gripped the bedsheet tightly.
After Doctor Xu’s treatment, and because Xia Weichen’s gland ducts had not completely blocked and necrotized, under the pheromone pressure that Lin Langruo was releasing with all her strength, Xia Weichen could barely move. Even breathing became extremely difficult.
“Miss Xia!” Yin Yin hurriedly grabbed Xia Weichen’s hand. Although she was not very sensitive to pheromones, that did not mean she could not sense them at all. While patting Xia Weichen’s back, she spoke urgently into the phone. “This Alpha has already lost control. At present, the safety of the Omega in the room cannot be fully guaranteed.”
The woman’s voice on the other end was calm. “Understood. Xiao Yin, take good care of the Omega who may be attacked. I’ll be there soon.”
“Who is that?”
Xia Weichen endured the discomfort of her racing heartbeat and asked.
Yin Yin was silent for a moment. “The current president of Yuesui Report.”
Yuesui Report?
…!
Xia Weichen’s eyes widened. Because she was too shocked, she could not catch her breath and could not help coughing nonstop. Her already watery eyes reddened around the edges, making her look both fragile and dazzling.
“The president has a connection with you?”
“An old acquaintance.”
The person on the other end had clearly heard their conversation, and the calm female voice carried a hint of amusement. “An old acquaintance? Xiao Yin, if you put it that way, I’ll be hurt. At the very least, I’m helping you this time. How can you turn your back on me so quickly?”
Under the light, Yin Yin’s face was somewhat red.
Xia Weichen’s face, however, grew even paler, losing even the last trace of color.
She remembered the system reminding her that the reason Yin Yin could never fall in love with anyone was because, during her youth, Yin Yin had already planted deep roots of affection for someone and could never extricate herself. From then on, she only had feelings for that one person.
Could the woman on the other end of the phone be Yin Yin’s deeply rooted white moonlight?
Xia Weichen felt somewhat guilty.
Although she usually teased Yin Yin however she pleased, in front of Yin Yin’s white moonlight, wouldn’t she be playing the same dishonorable role as a mistress?
While her thoughts were running wild, the dispute downstairs in the villa stopped at some point. The night returned to its usual quiet. Immediately after, Auntie Lu’s voice of thanks sounded.
“I heard Miss Yin Yin is here too. May I see her?”
The calm female voice that had just been on the phone now appeared downstairs. It gave people a very detached and tranquil feeling, exactly the kind of style an iceberg like Yin Yin might fall for.
Auntie Lu did not dare agree directly and quickly went upstairs to ask Xia Weichen for her opinion. Xia Weichen could roughly guess that Yin Yin definitely wanted to meet the white moonlight who had already arrived downstairs, so she agreed.
Before long, slow footsteps approached from far to near. A woman dressed in formal attire appeared at the door.
The woman’s features were sparse and light, giving off a very clean and simple impression. She seemed somewhat like the kind of person in power whose word was law, whom no one dared disobey, yet she was not forceful or frightening.
“Don’t be afraid, Miss Xia. The people from the assessment center have already restrained the Alpha who broke in downstairs.” The woman spoke gently, then turned toward Yin Yin. “Xiao Yin, long time no see.”
Xia Weichen could feel Yin Yin holding her hand, but she instinctively pushed Yin Yin toward the woman at the door.
She did not want to be the third party!
“You…” Yin Yin hesitated for a moment, but still did not move toward the direction Xia Weichen was pushing her. “Are you here on business?”
The woman nodded, smiling appropriately. “I happen to be doing some research about theoretical knowledge between Alphas and Omegas, as well as some other matters that help both sides understand and correctly recognize each other. Oh, I forgot to introduce myself. I am the president of Yuesui Report, Cao Qing.”
She extended her hand toward Xia Weichen, and Xia Weichen politely shook it.
With more people around, Xia Weichen was no longer as afraid of the dark. The lingering effects of Lin Langruo’s pheromone impact had also mostly faded, and she had basically returned to normal.
“Hello, Miss Cao.” Xia Weichen glanced at Cao Qing’s hand and, after confirming that she was not wearing a ring, settled on that form of address.
She had heard of this president of Yuesui Report. This president acted very discreetly. There was not even a single front-facing photo of her on social media. Xia Weichen had always thought that the president of Yuesui Report would be around the same age as her mother, Xia Qiuling.
“Is Miss Xia wondering why I’m so young?” Cao Qing smiled again. “It is indeed hard to imagine that the president of Yuesui Report would be this young.”
Cao Qing seemed quite proud of her youth. Xia Weichen chatted along with her for a few sentences, and the smile in Cao Qing’s eyes grew even deeper.
Yin Yin, however, seemed not to like this kind of small talk and urged Cao Qing to get to the point.
“Right, back to business.” Cao Qing somehow produced a recording pen and turned toward Xia Weichen. “Regarding Alpha Lin Langruo’s attempt to break into an Omega’s home and her act of releasing pheromones as a threat, I would like to take a statement from Miss Xia. I ask for Miss Xia’s cooperation.”
Take a statement?
Xia Weichen was startled.
“Miss Xia, there is no need to be nervous. It is only a routine inquiry.” Cao Qing added, “This concerns the assessment of Alpha Lin Langruo and whether she is an Alpha suitable for marriage. Miss Xia, please rest assured. Everything Miss Xia says tonight will be kept strictly confidential. No one else will know. Moreover, Yuesui Report does not have criminal punishment authority, so Miss Xia need not worry.”
In other words, even if it involved some scandal among wealthy families, it did not matter. In any case, Yuesui Report did not have law enforcement authority in that area. They were only responsible for assessing whether an Alpha was suitable for marriage.
After hesitating for a moment, Xia Weichen still told most of the story. Judging from Cao Qing’s expression, what she said was already more than enough.
“Thank you for your cooperation, Miss Xia.” Cao Qing put the recording pen back into her handbag. “I have disturbed Miss Xia for quite some time, so I should take my leave. This is my business card. If Miss Xia’s future partners ever show similar behavior, Miss Xia may contact me at any time.”
Xia Weichen noticed that when Cao Qing said these words, Yin Yin’s expression was clearly somewhat subtle.
After speaking, Cao Qing got up and prepared to leave. Xia Weichen quickly pushed Yin Yin, signaling for Yin Yin to see Cao Qing downstairs.
“Isn’t Miss Xia afraid of the dark?” Yin Yin held Xia Weichen’s hand. Xia Weichen felt that Yin Yin’s palm was sweating even more than hers.
Was she too nervous after seeing her white moonlight?
She had not expected that someone who would become a major villain in the future would still be this innocent now.
Xia Weichen secretly found it funny, but she still pushed Yin Yin in Cao Qing’s direction. “Go see her off. I can manage by myself.”
“No need to see me off. I can go down by myself.” Cao Qing waved her hand. “Goodbye, Miss Xia. Goodbye, Xiao Yin.”
Cao Qing’s voice soon disappeared into the night. Very soon, the sound of a car engine starting came from downstairs. Finally, even those sounds were swallowed by the darkness.
Xia Weichen let go of Yin Yin’s hand and dodged aside, avoiding Yin Yin’s gaze.
“What’s wrong, Miss Xia?” Yin Yin noticed Xia Weichen’s abnormality. In the past, Xia Weichen had tried every possible way to tease her, but now, Xia Weichen seemed as if she could not avoid her fast enough.
“Nothing.” Xia Weichen shook her head and lay back down on the bed. The dim light of the desk lamp fell on her fingertips, revealing a sickly paleness. There was no mirror in the master bedroom, so she could not see what she looked like after removing her makeup. But from the color of her fingertips, she could roughly infer that there was probably not a trace of color on her face.
No one could imagine that the bright and gorgeous Xia Weichen outside would look so pale and weak after removing her makeup. All that brightness and beauty were merely a final desperate effort supported by heavy makeup.
Only those shimmering peach-blossom eyes were astonishingly bright at this moment.
“Miss Cao is very beautiful,” Xia Weichen said faintly. “If Sister Yin is willing, you can invite her over to visit anytime.”
Hearing this, an ominous premonition sprang into Yin Yin’s heart.
Xia Weichen couldn’t have taken a liking to Cao Qing too, could she?
