A Cannon-Fodder Omega’s Self-Saving Guide - Chapter 3
For a moment, both Ming Lanyi and the system following beside Xia Weichen were frozen in shock, unable to say a single word.
Ming Lanyi had never seen Xia Weichen speak in such a delicate, dependent tone. In her impression, Xia Weichen had always been gentle, reserved, and restrained. This was the first time she had ever seen Xia Weichen speak to anyone in such a soft voice. She was as soft as a little kitten, making people want to hold her carefully in their palms.
As for the system, it was shocked because Xia Weichen’s current behavior was extremely inconsistent with the data it had recorded. Xia Weichen’s original character setting was calm and self-possessed. Even when she had loved Lin Langruo deeply, she had never been this gentle and soft as water.
Yin Yin did not seem surprised that Xia Weichen had come over. She raised her head slightly, her gaze sweeping over the woman’s face before confirming that she was an Omega. Inwardly, she thought this must be another trap set by some competitor who disliked her.
“Sorry, I’m not interested.”
Whenever Yin Yin encountered such situations, she would always refuse directly and decisively, never giving anyone a chance to exploit a loophole.
“Really not?” Xia Weichen blinked. The soft light and shadows reflected in her eyes, faintly shimmering with watery brightness, captivating enough to steal one’s soul.
Yin Yin’s voice remained polite and cold. “I don’t know you, Miss.”
Xia Weichen smiled lightly and took the initiative to clink the wineglass in her hand against the one in Yin Yin’s. The glass produced a crisp, pleasant sound.
“My name is Xia Weichen.”
Yin Yin had completely failed to expect that the woman who had come to find her would be so bold. She fell silent for a moment.
“Yin Yin.”
Her voice was just like her face—cool, noble, and naturally elegant. In temperament, she resembled a family heir who had been carefully raised since childhood more than a child from a poor background who had forced her way into upper society through her own strength.
“Then don’t we know each other now? It’s very nice to meet you, Sister Yin.” Xia Weichen calmly captured Yin Yin’s gaze, refusing to let go of any chance to look into her eyes. She did not notice at all that the golden ball beside her had been so frightened it had stopped trembling.
At that moment, the system had practically crashed. If it had not received any notification, it would have suspected that the person inside its host’s body had been replaced.
In truth, if Xia Weichen had not seen the plot that would have unfolded without outside interference, she would not have acted this soft and gentle. But through observing Lin Langruo, she guessed that Alphas probably preferred Omegas with softer personalities. This kind of Omega could easily stir an Alpha’s desire to cherish and protect.
She still had at least some acting skills.
Having wandered since childhood through all kinds of glamorous, hypocritical social circles, her acting was better than that of many currently popular actors.
Her delicate fingers seemed to casually brush against the cool, fair back of Yin Yin’s hand. Yin Yin instinctively withdrew her hand, but at that moment, she met those shimmering peach-blossom eyes. Those eyes rippled like flowing water, as if they wanted to drown everything within them.
“Miss Xia, please conduct yourself with dignity.”
Yin Yin’s voice grew even colder, carrying a considerable sense of distance. She set down the wineglass in her hand, picked up her bag, and turned to leave.
When Ming Lanyi came closer, she saw Xia Weichen sitting on the chair with a lost expression.
“I told you being this direct with her wouldn’t work. Yin Yin is a strange person.” Ming Lanyi sat down in the seat Yin Yin had just left and waved her hand in front of her friend’s eyes. “Chenchen, if you’ve taken a liking to her, I can help you.”
“How?” Xia Weichen asked gloomily. “I didn’t even get her contact information.”
Although from the beginning, she had already anticipated that Yin Yin, who could give those old prestigious families such headaches, would definitely be harder to deal with than an ordinary Alpha, she had never imagined that Yin Yin would avoid her as if she were some terrible disaster. Xia Weichen still had confidence in her own appearance. Even without pheromones, beauty had never been something cheap.
But beauty did not seem to have any effect on Yin Yin. Throughout the entire process, Xia Weichen had been paying attention to Yin Yin, and Yin Yin had not looked at her any more than necessary.
Even though Xia Weichen had no need to rely on her looks to please others, being ignored despite the beauty she took pride in still inevitably gave rise to a faint sense of defeat deep inside her heart. In this matter, she could not avoid being ordinary.
“Actually, these methods don’t seem very suitable for Host,” the system said carefully, choosing its words. “But is Host really sure you want to conquer Yin Yin?”
“What’s wrong?” Xia Weichen asked inwardly.
The system sensed the frustration in its host’s heart and hurriedly comforted her. “Host should know what kind of person Yin Yin is. According to the system’s detection, there is an eighty percent probability that she is frigid.”
“You can detect that too?” Xia Weichen secretly found it funny. “Are you just going off what Ming Lanyi said earlier?”
“No, no.” To prove its innocence, the golden ball shook its body so violently it almost started spinning. “This is based on an overall data evaluation and detection. In my system, there is no such word as ‘guess.’”
“Then isn’t that perfect?”
The golden ball indicated that it did not understand what its host was saying.
“It’s not as if I can do anything in that area either.” Facing her own disadvantage, Xia Weichen did not hide it at all. Instead, she felt this was quite a good point. That way, she would not have to worry about an Alpha coveting her.
After experiencing that dream about her entire life, it was as if she had lived another lifetime. The memories of two lives were enough to make her consider things more carefully and thoroughly. Therefore, choosing Yin Yin was even more reasonable.
She knew better than anyone just how deep the Xia Consortium’s foundation was. Aside from a few major conglomerates that could stand on equal footing with the Xia family, anyone who went against the Xia family was merely trying to stop a chariot with a mantis’s arms. The fact that Yin Yin could contend with the Xia family alone was enough to prove that her individual ability was terrifying.
One had to know that her parents valued talent the most. Someone like Yin Yin could absolutely enter her parents’ eyes.
“Don’t be anxious, Chenchen.” Ming Lanyi’s voice interrupted her communication with the system. Then Ming Lanyi smiled with ill intentions. “You never asked me whether I know her home address.”
Seeing Ming Lanyi’s expression, Xia Weichen knew very well that her good friend was definitely thinking of some bad idea.
She said nothing and waited for Ming Lanyi to name her condition.
“How about this? Use that tone you used on Yin Yin just now and call me ‘older sister’ once.” Ming Lanyi smiled. “I’m older than you anyway, so you won’t be losing out by calling me that.”
Seeing that no one was passing by, Xia Weichen rolled her eyes at Ming Lanyi. “Dream on.”
Although her attempt to make Xia Weichen call her “older sister” failed, Ming Lanyi still brought Xia Weichen to a somewhat old residential neighborhood. Compared to high-end residential areas, this place had much more of an everyday atmosphere. In the central square of the neighborhood, children chased and played with one another, their laughter ringing endlessly.
Ming Lanyi parked the car beneath the entrance of one building with practiced ease.
“Yin Yin lives in 602. The rest is up to you.”
Seeing how familiar Ming Lanyi was with the place, Xia Weichen could not help asking, “How do you know?”
“When my eldest sister was discussing a contract with Yin Yin before, I was responsible for driving Yin Yin home.” Ming Lanyi leaned on the steering wheel and smiled at Xia Weichen sideways. “What? You don’t dare go up?”
“How could I not dare? I’ll bet you that by tomorrow, you’ll see Yin Yin and me going in and out together as a pair!”
“Sure. If you win, I’ll give you the famille-rose peony vase I’ve treasured for years.” Ming Lanyi smiled wickedly. “If you lose, you’ll embroider a small portrait of my Yuanyuan for me.”
“Then you’re definitely losing.”
After making her bold declaration, Xia Weichen got out of the car. Just then, someone happened to come down from upstairs. She had originally planned to take advantage of the opportunity and follow them inside, but the moment she saw that person’s face, all the grand words she had just said to Ming Lanyi instantly vanished without a trace.
The person coming toward her clearly had not expected her to suddenly stop either. The two immediately bumped into each other. Xia Weichen lost her balance at once and fell backward. At that moment, the person who had walked out of the corridor caught her by the waist, and Xia Weichen toppled crookedly into the woman’s arms.
The woman carried a fresh, clean scent. Her hand was very strong, and Xia Weichen could clearly feel the warm, distinct knuckles at her waist.
“Miss Xia.” The woman’s voice was especially stern. Then the door was pushed open and propped with a brick at the side. Xia Weichen, who had regained her balance, was pushed away. “Was my refusal just now not clear enough?”
“No, no.” Xia Weichen hurriedly said, “But I just feel that I shouldn’t give up so early. Although we’ve only met once, I don’t think it’s as completely impossible as Sister thinks.”
Yin Yin ignored her and turned to leave. Seeing that Yin Yin did not drive her away, Xia Weichen chased after her, following behind Yin Yin like a little tail.
“I can cook for Sister, and I can take care of Sister’s daily life. I can help Sister with social engagements. I can do anything Sister wants…”
“Won’t Sister give me just one chance?” Xia Weichen kept asking similar questions all the way.
Under her persistent efforts, Yin Yin finally raised her head and glanced at her.
“No.”
“Not even once?”
“No.”
Although the system felt that its host was being far too direct and open, and that Yin Yin’s rejection was completely reasonable, it was still afraid that its host would collapse after such an obvious blow and fail to successfully change her life. Just as it was about to speak up and comfort her, it suddenly heard its host communicate with it.
“Did you hear that? Did you hear that? She answered me! She talked to me!”
“…”
The system felt that all its painstaking worry had gone to waste.
How could a person be this much of a bootlicker?
After following Yin Yin to the store to buy a plastic bag full of canned coffee, Xia Weichen wanted to take it from her, but Yin Yin directly pushed her away. Yin Yin seemed very dissatisfied with Xia Weichen following her all the way, and her strength was slightly too heavy. The plastic bag she was carrying struck Xia Weichen directly on the leg, making Xia Weichen hiss and draw in a cold breath from the pain.
Yin Yin knew she had hit Xia Weichen. Although she did not like being followed like this, she could not shirk responsibility either.
“Where did it hit you?”
Xia Weichen pointed at her right leg, tears of pain swirling in her eyes.
She had been afraid of pain since childhood. During the period after her car accident when she had been in the hospital, she had nearly felt that life was worse than death. Mother Xia had been distressed for her, and whenever she saw Xia Weichen in unbearable pain, she would beg the doctors to give her painkillers. Fortunately, Father Xia was clear-headed and stopped Mother Xia, which was the only reason Xia Weichen had not developed a drug dependence.
Yin Yin put down the bag and crouched. Under the light shining out from the store entrance, Yin Yin vaguely saw a patch of bruising spreading across Xia Weichen’s fair calf. Very quickly, it swelled up right in front of her, looking shocking to the eye.
After finishing her examination, she sighed. “I’m sorry. This was my fault. Come to my place first. I’ll treat it for you.”
Then she tentatively asked, “Miss Xia, can you still walk?”
If she had not seen it with her own eyes, it would be hard to believe someone’s skin could be so delicate that a single bump would cause such a big reaction.
Xia Weichen did not seem to blame her. She only shook her head, her voice low and faintly trembling. “Can Sister support me?”
After all, she was the one who had caused Xia Weichen to become like this. Yin Yin sighed heavily in her heart, but still reached out and supported Xia Weichen as they walked toward the building where she lived.
Although it was not very far, when they reached the entrance of the unit building and were about to go upstairs, Xia Weichen stopped. She panted softly and leaned against Yin Yin’s shoulder, murmuring in a soft voice, “Sister, I can’t walk anymore.”
“…”
Yin Yin felt as if she had been scammed by someone staging an accident, but she could not find any evidence.
Those peach-blossom eyes shimmered with watery light. Her small cherry-like lips opened and closed, and even her voice was as tender and soft as a cloud.
“…I want Sister to carry me.”
