Chapter 20
Hearing Pei Hanying’s firm words, Pei Yuan was not surprised.
She knew her daughter had a personality with her own ideas, and she would not interfere too much. To a greater extent, whatever Pei Hanying said, Pei Yuan was willing to satisfy as much as possible.
“Mm, I understand. Later, your father and I will go to the Ning family and have a look.”
Pei Hanying curved her eyes and said crisply, “Thank you, Mommy!”
Pei Yuan rubbed her long hair and set her down.
“Go eat breakfast first. Later, have Aunt Feng cook some porridge for Xiao Song.”
Pei Hanying nodded and ate a little breakfast simply. Still worried about Ning Song, she very soon went upstairs again.
The doctor was in the room examining Ning Song’s body. Pei Hanying stood to the side, looking at Ning Song’s flushed complexion, and could not help furrowing her brows again.
This little idiot. She just had to torment herself.
After the doctor finished examining her, he explained the general situation to Xia Ting, left behind some mild medicine, and then left the Pei home.
Not long after the doctor left, Ning Song gradually woke up as well.
Pei Hanying sat to the side, watching her drink porridge in small mouthfuls.
Realizing that the little villain’s gaze had been falling on her the whole time, Pei Hanying looked back at her irritably.
She said, “What are you looking at? Drink your porridge properly.”
Hearing her somewhat fierce tone, Ning Song timidly withdrew her gaze again.
Seeing her long lashes flutter lightly, looking somewhat uneasy, Pei Hanying finally realized that her tone just now seemed a little bad.
She pressed her lips together. In the end, she awkwardly said, “Ning Song, hurry up and get better. When the time comes, I’ll take you to the children’s playground again.”
After hearing her voice become a little gentler, Ning Song swallowed the porridge in her mouth and looked at her again, her eyes curving.
She said delicately, “Okay.”
So obedient it was deadly.
Ning Song no longer deliberately sought death. Under the careful nursing of everyone in the Pei family, her illness completely recovered after a week.
Pei Hanying still had not fulfilled her promise to take her to the children’s playground when the two little ones were brought by Pei Yuan and Chao Qing toward the Ning family.
Pei Hanying held Ning Song’s hand. Seeing that she looked somewhat uneasy, she squeezed her palm.
She whispered by Ning Song’s ear to comfort her, “Don’t be scared. My mommy and daddy are here.”
Feeling the presence of the person beside her, Ning Song’s heart finally settled slightly.
She gently let out a breath and turned her head to smile at Pei Hanying.
Actually, to Ning Song, the sense of security Pei Yuan and Chao Qing gave her was far less than the sense of security Pei Hanying beside her gave her.
Only when she felt Pei Hanying’s presence was her heart steady.
The few of them arrived at the Ning family’s door. Chao Qing knocked.
Several minutes passed, and no one came to open the door.
Only after the doorbell had been pressed a few more times was the door finally pulled open from inside, accompanied by a man’s cursing.
“Which little bastard is knocking and knocking at my door this early in the morning!”
After seeing clearly who was standing outside the door, Ning Cheng instantly became like a duck whose neck had been grabbed.
He said awkwardly, “President Pei, President Chao, how do you have time to come over?”
Seeing the two of them stay silent, he rubbed his palms together somewhat stiffly and revealed an ingratiating smile.
“Come in, come in and sit.”
Pei Yuan looked at him, her voice cold.
“There’s no need to sit. We came today to talk about Ning Song.”
Hearing this, Ning Cheng froze slightly. Only then did he notice Ning Song, who was blocked behind the two adults.
A vicious light instantly rose in his eyes, and he pointed at Ning Song and began cursing angrily. “You little brat, so you still know to come back! You’re so good at causing trouble. If I’d known earlier, I would have beaten you to death back then!”
Pei Hanying had already covered Ning Song’s ears long ago. Seeing Ning Cheng’s ferocious face, she felt somewhat disgusted and simply turned around to stand in front of Ning Song, blocking her.
Chao Qing reached out and pushed Ning Cheng’s hand back.
He was one meter ninety tall. He looked refined and handsome, but the muscles on his body were not grown for nothing.
Standing in front of Ning Cheng, he instantly made this man, who bullied the weak and feared the strong, no longer dare to make any movements.
Pei Yuan looked at him with disgust in her eyes and was unwilling to continue circling around with him.
She merely said, “My daughter happens to need a playmate, and Xiao Song is very suitable. So, we came today to inform you.”
Ning Cheng froze when he heard this.
This little brat had actually really been noticed by the Pei family.
Greed instantly appeared on his face. His thumb rubbed across his index finger, and he laughed heh-heh.
“Then what price is it, President Pei? This is my precious daughter. She can’t be dismissed with just a few hundred thousand.”
Pei Hanying turned her head and saw his damn appearance, and she truly wanted to kick him.
Idiot.
Chao Qing handed him a card. “Two and a half million. The password is six zeroes. The condition is that from now on, you are not allowed to disturb Ning Song again.”
As he spoke, he took out a contract and handed it to Ning Cheng.
Ning Cheng accepted the card eagerly, yet was still somewhat dissatisfied. “Isn’t this little bit of money a bit too little?”
Pei Yuan lifted her eyelids and looked at him. “Do you want this much money, or do you want no money at all? Pick one yourself.”
Ning Cheng awkwardly closed his mouth, took the pen, and signed his name.
Watching Ning Song be taken away by the Pei family, he said in a low voice, “That wretched girl sure has a good life.”
After returning home, Pei Hanying felt it was somewhat unlucky and immediately pulled Ning Song upstairs to change into another set of clothes.
Ning Song wore a beautiful, delicate knitted dress and sat on the carpet, hugging her knees as she looked at Pei Hanying. She said softly to Pei Hanying, “Yingying, that money—I’ll definitely pay it back to you in the future.”
Pei Hanying was somewhat surprised that she had actually heard the conversation just now. Hearing this, she merely said casually,
“Sure. I’ll charge interest when the time comes.”
After hearing this, Ning Song pressed her lips together and smiled very faintly.
She agreed softly.
After Pei Hanying also sat down on the carpet, Ning Song gently leaned her head against the girl’s shoulder.
Her voice was very light. “Yingying, why are you so good to me?”
Pei Hanying also copied her and said softly, “Guess.”
Ning Song curved her eyes and remembered the picture book she had read together with Pei Hanying yesterday.
“I guess Yingying is a little angel, specially sent to save me.”
Pei Hanying was struck by the cuteness of what she said and pinched her cheek.
“I’m not any angel.”
She said very calmly to Ning Song, “Ning Song, I’ll only be this good to you.”
“Wuwu, Ning Song, why is Pei Hanying so fierce to me but so good to you? Wuwuwu!”
Yuan Yi wiped her tears, crying in front of Ning Song until her eyes were watery. Her little bun-like face looked terribly wronged.
Looking at her, Ning Song took a pack of tissues out of her pocket and handed it to her, letting her wipe the tears from her face.
She spoke warmly and gently. “Because Yingying likes me.”
Yuan Yi let out a loud wail and cried even harder!
Pei Hanying wiped the blackboard clean. Seeing Yuan Yi still clinging to Ning Song, she felt somewhat annoyed.
Carrying Ning Song’s schoolbag and her own, she walked in front of the two of them and pinched the back of Ning Song’s neck.
“Ning Song, we’re going home. Let her cry by herself for a while.”
“The more you comfort her, the sadder she gets.”
Ning Song turned around and curved her eyes at Pei Hanying.
She softly agreed.
Seeing the way she looked now, Pei Hanying rubbed her cheek.
After staying with the Pei family for two or three years, Ning Song had been raised quite well. Now, she had grown into an extraordinarily beautiful child. Anyone who looked at her a few more times would feel she was an exquisite curly-haired porcelain doll.
There was more flesh on her body and face, and her hair had also grown long. Every day, she was dressed cleanly and neatly. Among a group of little brats, she looked like a little princess.
Only, her body was still somewhat weak.
Ning Song took her hand, and the two of them, like they had countless times before, went downstairs and prepared to go home.
Pei Hanying clicked her tongue lightly, feeling that Ning Song was clingy, yet she did not dare pull her hand away.
She was afraid Ning Song would cry.
Looking at the two figures leaving together, Yuan Yi thought while sniffling.
Just now, Ning Song had not comforted her at all!
