Chapter 21

Ning Song was one year older than Pei Hanying, but this year, both of them were in second grade. From kindergarten to second grade, they had always been in the same class.

Pei Hanying’s personality was free and lively. She liked standing out, was talented in many things, and her grades were good too, so she had managed to secure herself a little official position in class very early on.

She was the little class monitor liked by all the girls in the class.

Only, every time a child wanted to make friends with Pei Hanying, the little girl would reject them with a face full of disdain.

She had broken the hearts of quite a few girls.

In class, Ning Song was also the target of envy for all the children.

Because she was Pei Hanying’s good friend, and Pei Hanying treated her the best!

Not only could Ning Song go to and from school with Pei Hanying every day, she was also her deskmate. The relationship between the two of them was so good that a second person could not squeeze in. Every time Ning Song was present, the other children had no way of speaking to Pei Hanying.

Pei Hanying did not know what those other little brats thought.

Even if she did, she probably would not take it seriously.

After all, compared to those delicate, crybaby little brats with runny noses all over their faces, her little villain was pretty and cute, and she loved cleanliness. Although she did not like talking much, no matter how one looked at her, she was still adorable.

The only bad thing was that she was too withdrawn. Children should make more friends.

On the ride home, Pei Hanying stared blankly at the scenery outside the window.

She had a piano competition during this period. After going home, most of her time was spent practicing piano, so during this rare bit of free time, she did not want to do anything at all. She only wanted to empty her mind.

Ning Song sat to the side, silently reciting the poem they had learned today in her heart.

After she finished reciting it, she looked at Pei Hanying. Seeing that her peach-blossom eyes were unfocused, she could guess that Pei Hanying was currently spacing out.

Gently pursing her lips, she shifted her body and moved a little closer to Pei Hanying.

The little girl stretched out one finger and lightly hooked it around Pei Hanying’s finger.

She said delicately, “Yingying.”

Being called by her, Pei Hanying came back to herself and turned her head to look at Ning Song, a hint of confusion between her brows.

“What is it?”

Ning Song gave her an obedient, soft smile. Her jade-green cat eyes curved, looking especially beautiful.

“Yuan Yi cried just now. Why didn’t you coax her?”

Pei Hanying was speechless.

So Ning Song had suddenly come over to call her name just for this?

How come she usually did not talk this much over her own matters?

She looked at Ning Song staring at her face and could not help reaching out to pinch her cheek.

The feeling beneath her fingers was soft and smooth, rather comfortable.

“Why don’t I see you being this attentive toward me usually? When I cry, did you coax me?”

She spoke irritably.

Ning Song blinked. Hearing this, she naturally nodded obediently.

“If Yingying cries, I’ll definitely coax you.”

But after spending two or three years together with Pei Hanying, she had never seen her cry.

Even when Pei Hanying often got injured practicing taekwondo and had bruises on her body, Ning Song had never seen her cry.

Ning Song still did not know what Pei Hanying would look like when she cried.

Hearing this, Pei Hanying’s expression finally improved a little.

She bent her finger and flicked Ning Song’s forehead, saying softly, “At least you have some conscience.”

After withdrawing her hand, Pei Hanying turned her head back and lazily answered Ning Song’s earlier question.

“I’m not the one who made Yuan Yi cry. Why should I coax her?”

“What’s more…”

At this point, she paused, turned her head to glance at Ning Song, and said in a low voice,

“Coaxing you alone is enough. Where would I get so much energy to coax other people?”

Hearing this, a faint mist rose in Ning Song’s eyes.

She said delicately, “Yingying is so good.”

Pei Hanying was scared just seeing her like this.

“Little ancestor, don’t cry again. I still have to practice piano when we get back. I don’t have time to coax you.”

Before meeting Ning Song, she had never known she could tolerate someone else crying this much.

Ning Song really was very capable of crying. As long as Pei Hanying showed even the slightest impatience toward her, she could become so wronged that she would silently stay to the side by herself, pitifully dropping tears.

And yet she refused to cry out loud, which only made Pei Hanying’s heart ache even more when she looked at her.

Pei Hanying’s temper had been worn much better in front of Ning Song too.

Since she could not bear to let Ning Song cry, she could only patiently coax her and try her best not to make her angry over the same thing next time.

Who knew where this little villain got so many tears from.

And yet at other times, she was so obedient and sensible it was unbearable. Otherwise, Pei Hanying would not feel this much heartache for her.

Ning Song became somewhat embarrassed because of what she said. After getting the response she wanted, she did not intend to keep disturbing Pei Hanying and only said softly, “I know. I’m not crying.”

Pei Hanying glanced sideways at her. “You’d better not be.”

The next day was Friday. After PE class ended, they could go home.

The PE teacher simply gathered the children in the class and had them run one lap around the field, then let them move freely.

Pei Hanying used her hand to block the blazing sun, narrowed her eyes slightly, and asked Ning Song, “Should we go back to the classroom?”

Ning Song’s skin was sensitive, and if she stayed under the sun too long, it would easily turn red.

Ning Song also felt a little hot. She held Pei Hanying’s arm and nodded. Just as she was [Read on BaiLianTales]about to return to the classroom with her, Yuan Yi came running over from who knew where again.

She grinned at the two of them. “Class monitor, Ning Song, do you want to play house together? We’re still missing a daddy and a baby.”

“Class monitor can be the daddy, I’ll be the mommy, and Ning Song can be the baby, okay?”

Pei Hanying: “…”

She lifted her eyelids and glanced at the little fool in front of her.

She was just about to pull Ning Song farther away to avoid being infected by stupidity.

But Ning Song stood in place without moving. Instead, she furrowed her brows and asked Yuan Yi, “Yingying is a girl. Why should she be the daddy?”

Yuan Yi froze after being asked this and instinctively said, “Th-then I’ll be the daddy.”

Ning Song said, “Aren’t you a girl too?”

Yuan Yi did not know how to answer. Her heart grew so anxious that her mouth flattened, and she was about to start crying.

Seeing her like this, Pei Hanying felt a little headache coming on.

“Yuan Yi, don’t cry.”

Glancing at the little villain who had made someone cry, Pei Hanying took a deep breath and gritted her teeth. “Fine, we’ll play with you, okay? You be the baby, and Xiao Song and I will be your Mom and Mommy.”

If Pei Hanying could have foreseen the scene that followed before saying this sentence, she would have chosen to pull Ning Song away immediately.

Right now, several little girls were placing leaves into a plastic bucket from who knew where and starting to “cook.”

A few little brats were playing a game of pretending to be adults and handling social visits.

Pei Hanying sat under the shade of a tree and closed her eyes.

Before long, Yuan Yi came over to bother them again. “Mom, Mommy, Uncle and Auntie came to visit our house!”

Pei Hanying did not even open her eyes and naturally let Ning Song rest her head on her lap.

She said lazily, “Tell them we’re not home.”

Ning Song leaned against her and could not help pressing out a faint smile.

She poked Pei Hanying’s leg and said delicately, “Yingying is bad.”

Her finger landing on Pei Hanying’s thigh was strangely ticklish.

Pei Hanying grabbed her finger and lowered her voice. “If you keep talking nonsense, Yuan Yi is going to bother us again.”

Ning Song softly went “oh.” After staying quiet for a while, she asked Pei Hanying,

“Then does Yingying like me more, or Yuan Yi more?”
