Chapter 22
That evening, the families gathered around a bonfire to eat roasted meat.
Chu Siyun was especially good at enjoying herself. Whatever Qin Shiyue handed her, she ate.
Qin Shiyue was helpless. “You really are treating me like a little servant.”
Chu Siyun quickly picked up a small piece of meat and fed it into Chu Xiao’s mouth. “No, I’m feeding the child.”
Qin Shiyue: …
She was clearly the one doing the feeding. Chu Xiao was already full.
It was a little cold at night. They were wearing the ethnic clothing provided by the production team, and it was not very warm.
Qin Shiyue held Chu Xiao in her arms and blocked the wind for her.
Chu Siyun stretched her hands toward the fire and asked as if chatting casually, “Hey, back then, what places did you travel to?”
Qin Shiyue said lightly, “I went to the northernmost places, and also the southernmost. I went up to plateaus and down into the sea. I even tried skydiving.”
Skydiving?!!
Although Chu Siyun did not exactly have a fear of heights, to her, skydiving was not much different from risking her life.
Too fierce.
Chu Siyun gave her a thumbs-up. “You’re really amazing!”
Qin Shiyue was not humble at all as she humbly said, “Not at all, not at all.”
Chu Xiao asked, “What’s skydiving?”
Qin Shiyue explained, “It means sitting in a plane and rising to a very, very high place, then jumping down. Later, you open a parachute and slowly land on the ground.”
Chu Xiao said, “I want to try too.”
Qin Shiyue patted her head. “You’re still too little right now. You can’t.”
Chu Siyun tilted her head slightly and looked at the two of them.
The older one’s gaze was gentle, all sharp edges completely withdrawn. The younger one’s eyes were shining, filled with hope.
A very, very long time ago, what Chu Siyun had wanted was only greater fame. Later, Chu Siyun wanted stronger ability and wanted to film better works.
Now, her thoughts had changed.
Suddenly, she wanted to be a kite held in someone’s hand, not rootless duckweed.
Before getting married, she had never understood Ms. Meng’s behavior of urging her to marry.
She had hands and feet and could earn money. She had friends and family, and she was not lonely. Why did she need to get married?
After getting married, Chu Siyun had still not understood her mother’s behavior.
Even though she was married, she and Qin Shiyue were still independent individuals. Why did they have to be tied together?
Now, Chu Siyun understood a little.
Her mother wanted their family to be well and wanted their feelings to become deeper. It was not that she wanted the three of them to be tied together, but that she wanted them to become each other’s support.
This support did not mean relying on the other person for everything. It was a place for the heart to rest.
Chu Siyun called, “Qin Shiyue.”
Qin Shiyue tilted her head and looked at her. The firelight reflected on the side of her face, making her whole person seem very warm. “What is it?”
Chu Siyun shrank her neck. “I’m cold.”
Qin Shiyue suggested, “Then should we go back?”
Qin Shiyue went to negotiate with the director’s team, and their family of three was successfully released.
That night, Xiang Siyu still brought her daughter over to borrow their bathroom.
After bathing, the family of three had a video call with Meng Ruolan.
Chu Xiao excitedly described what they had done. Her joy was about to overflow through the screen and back home.
When Xiang Siyu came out, they had already finished the video call.
Qin Shiyue sent the mother and daughter to the door.
When they reached the doorway, Xiang Siyu asked, “We’re climbing a mountain tomorrow. Are you scared?”
Qin Shiyue: ???
“Why would I be scared?”
Xiang Siyu jerked her chin toward Chu Xiao. “Your child is only that tiny.”
Tomorrow was the last day of the trip.
The families would climb Lucheng’s Jiangming Mountain together. There was a temple on the mountain, and it was said to be very efficacious.
After seeing Xiang Siyu off, Qin Shiyue began turning off the lights.
Chu Siyun said, “Sleeping? It’s only a little past nine.”
Qin Shiyue nodded. “Sleep. We’re climbing a mountain tomorrow. Rest properly.”
In order to keep herself in good condition, Qin Shiyue did a set of stretches after getting up the next day.
As Chu Siyun put on her coat, she asked, “Is that necessary?”
Qin Shiyue said faintly, “Not necessary. You carry the child up the mountain.”
Chu Siyun said, “You’re the best. Especially amazing!”
Qin Shiyue glanced at Chu Siyun, her eyes filled with speechlessness.
At ten the next morning, the families slowly began walking up the mountain.
The mountain was not high. An adult could climb it in about an hour. There was only one path, and they could only go up step by step. There was no other way.
The steps on the road were not steep and were very friendly to children.
Chu Xiao was excellent today, holding Mommy’s hand and walking bit by bit on her own.
But she was young, so Qin Shiyue and she fell to the very back.
Chu Siyun belonged to the type whose physical strength was average. She first walked ahead at a normal adult pace, then found a place to rest for a while and wait for her wife and daughter.
The scenery along the way was very nice, and Chu Siyun admired it quite a bit while resting.
After climbing for more than fifty minutes, Chu Siyun felt unbearably hot. She took off her hat and used it as a fan, preparing to find a place to rest.
Looking at the two children playing around not far behind her, Chu Siyun frowned slightly. Why were children so amazing?
Li Yi and Wang Zhou were close in age and got along well. Wang Zhou had originally been a quiet little boy, but Li Yi had forcibly turned him into a social butterfly.
The two of them ran forward covered in sweat.
Di Zi’an’s voice chased after them from behind. “Slow down. Don’t fall.”
His words became prophecy.
Just as Di Zi’an finished speaking, Li Yi tripped over the steps.
Out of kindness, Chu Siyun reached out and caught her.
Very good. The child was fine. The adult had a bit of a problem.
Chu Siyun had originally been standing sideways on one step to rest. Li Yi happened to trip on the step where she was standing.
She was used to holding Chu Xiao, but Li Yi was heavier. Chu Siyun miscalculated and used a little too little strength.
The child was pulled back, but Chu Siyun lost her balance.
To prevent herself from falling, Chu Siyun stepped down with one foot, only to step onto the edge of the stair and twist it.
When Qin Shiyue caught up to the main group while holding Chu Xiao, what she saw was several people gathered around Chu Siyun.
Chu Siyun sat on the steps, one foot stripped of both shoe and sock.
Qin Shiyue did not understand what had happened. “What’s wrong?”
Di Zi’an became nervous and almost called out “President Qin.” He had just started with “Qin” when Qin Shiyue glared him back.
Li Siyan explained, “Li Yi was naughty just now and ran on the stairs. She almost fell, and Siyun pulled the child back, but ended up twisting her own ankle.”
Qin Shiyue placed Chu Xiao on the ground, squeezed into the middle of the crowd, and crouched down to check Chu Siyun’s ankle.
It was swollen. Not a light sprain.
Qin Shiyue asked, “Do we have an ice pack?”
A staff member beside them said, “We’ve sent someone to bring one.”
Qin Shiyue nodded, then asked, “Can you still walk?”
The staff member was about to answer along with the flow of conversation, only to hear Chu Siyun answer, “Not really.”
Qin Shiyue’s expression was a little intimidating right now. Her brows were furrowed high, and the person who usually looked amiable and approachable now seemed somewhat fierce and forbidding.
The staff member silently closed their mouth.
Qin Shiyue’s tone turned serious, carrying a pressure that allowed no refusal. “Down the mountain. I’ll carry you.”
Chu Siyun hesitated. “I don’t want to go down. We’re almost at the top.”
Qin Shiyue looked straight into Chu Siyun’s eyes. “Are you walking by yourself?”
Chu Siyun pressed her lips together and did not speak.
Qin Shiyue bent down in front of her and found a suitable position. “Get on.”
Chu Siyun lay on her back, aggrieved.
After lifting Chu Siyun onto her back, Qin Shiyue looked at Di Zi’an standing in front of her, gave a slight nod, and said, “Please take care of Chu Xiao.”
Di Zi’an reached out and gathered Chu Xiao over. “Of course.”
Once Qin Shiyue had the person on her back, the people gathered here all scattered.
Chu Siyun sighed. Looks like she would not be able to worship Buddha this time.
Qin Shiyue suddenly turned around, changing from going down the mountain to going up.
Chu Siyun became happy in an instant. She had known Qin Shiyue would soften.
“Aren’t we going down?”
Qin Shiyue stopped and prepared to turn around. “Okay. Down the mountain.”
Chu Siyun quickly stopped her. “No!”
Getting the benefit and still acting coy.
Qin Shiyue carried her step by step up the mountain.
They did not walk quickly, and the staff members beside them also did not move quickly, following at their side and ready to respond to any sudden situation.
Who would have thought that along the way, there actually were no sudden situations.
Qin Shiyue carried Chu Siyun for more than ten minutes and reached the summit.
The director’s team had communicated with the temple beforehand and prepared lunch for everyone.
After Qin Shiyue put Chu Siyun down, she rubbed her own waist.
Chu Siyun asked softly, “Are you okay?”
Qin Shiyue shook her head, but did not look at her and only continued rubbing her waist.
Her waist had only just recovered. Chu Siyun felt a little guilty.
She only had an injury on her foot; her hands were fine. During the meal, Chu Siyun took care of Qin Shiyue as much as possible, not even paying attention to the child.
Luckily, there was Di Zi’an.
After Qin Shiyue ate a few bites, she held her chopsticks and asked Chu Siyun with a smile, “What? Did your personality change?”
Chu Siyun glanced sideways at her. “Eat properly!”
She had originally wanted to say, “If you don’t know how to talk, you don’t have to talk,” but for the sake of how hard Qin Shiyue had worked, she would not retort.
When the ice pack was delivered, Qin Shiyue personally helped Chu Siyun secure it.
It was very cold, and Chu Siyun wanted to pull her foot back.
Qin Shiyue gripped the uninjured part of her foot with one hand. “Don’t move. Applying ice first can promote blood vessel contraction and reduce bleeding and fluid seepage.[1] It’s for your own good.”
Chu Siyun said, “But it’s very cold. It’s winter right now.”
Qin Shiyue did not want to deal with her and focused on helping her arrange the ice pack.
When they went down the mountain, Chu Siyun was carried down on a stretcher.
Qin Shiyue held Chu Xiao’s hand and followed beside her.
Once they descended the mountain, recording counted as finished. The luggage had long since been placed in the cars, and each family followed their own plans.
Chu Siyun’s family had plane tickets home today.
The production team’s car directly sent them to the airport.
In the car, Chu Xiao was so tired she had fallen asleep in Qin Shiyue’s arms.
Chu Siyun leaned close to Qin Shiyue’s ear and whispered, “Thank you.”
Qin Shiyue shook her head. “No need to thank me.”
Although Qin Shiyue had only carried her for more than ten minutes, that had been on the path up the mountain. It must have been very tiring.
Qin Shiyue was an alpha, but she was also a girl. Her back was not especially broad, yet it gave Chu Siyun a strong sense of security.
Qin Shiyue was tired too. Just as she was about to fall asleep, the woman beside her leaned over again.
She was practically lying against Qin Shiyue’s ear as she called her name.
“Qin Shiyue.”
Qin Shiyue dodged away a little and frowned faintly. “What?”
Chu Siyun leaned over again. “Why are you so good?”
Qin Shiyue: ???
When something abnormal happened, there had to be a demon.
Had Chu Siyun been possessed by a spirit?
Qin Shiyue reached out and touched Chu Siyun’s forehead.
Now it was Chu Siyun’s turn: ???
Qin Shiyue said, “I thought you’d hit your head too.”
Chu Siyun: …
“You successfully ruined the atmosphere.”
Qin Shiyue asked, “What atmosphere? What did you want to say?”
Chu Siyun sighed and looked helplessly ahead. “I wanted to confess to you.”
??!
Qin Shiyue was just about to speak when Chu Siyun added, “A heartfelt monologue expressing my immense gratitude.”
Qin Shiyue: …
Why did she pause so dramatically when speaking?
Maybe there really was something wrong with her brain.
