A Wealthy Family’s Married-In Alpha Redemption On A Parenting Variety Show - Chapter 9
Chu Siyun angrily pulled out her notice schedule.
Today was the 6th, and her scenes were scheduled all the way until the 18th. Because she had asked for leave before, the later arrangements were all quite tight.
After that, if she took on a new film, she would still have to leave time open to record the reality show.
Most importantly, she could not arrange her work too tightly anymore. She had to spend time with the child.
Before, she had truly been quite cold-blooded. She had actually managed to abandon the child and ignore her.
That could not happen anymore. Her maternal radiance had suddenly awakened, and she could not bear it.
Speaking of the reality show, Chu Siyun had to hurry and report to Bi Qiujun.
She had been in the industry for so many years, but she had never been a regular guest on a reality show before. She needed to prepare in advance.
Chu Siyun’s participation at home was low. The backbone of their family of three should be Qin Shiyue, but things would be different once they were on the show. Qin Shiyue and the child both had no experience in front of cameras. At that time, everything would have to depend on her. She absolutely had to shoulder this responsibility properly.
After quickly watching the final episode of a certain completed parent-child variety show, Chu Siyun finally could not hold on anymore. Her hand loosened, and her phone fell onto the bed.
Half a minute later, that hand picked the phone up again.
She had only remembered to look at the notice schedule and had forgotten to look at her calendar. Since filming was about to wrap, there probably should not be anything else, right?
Chu Siyun mechanically looked through the days one by one, until she suddenly stopped on a certain date.
Heavens. Was the 18th some kind of auspicious day?
Never mind that she was wrapping filming that day, why was it also Qin Shiyue’s birthday?
Rush back to celebrate her birthday?
In her dreams. Qin Shiyue casually teased her like that. How could she possibly go out of her way to treat her well?
But birthdays were very happy days, and if there was cake, the little one would definitely be the happiest.
Chu Siyun had originally been so sleepy she could barely keep her eyes open, but now she had fallen into a struggle.
If she went back, it would make her seem like she was throwing herself at Qin Shiyue.
If she did not go back…
As the saying went: a wife, children, and a warm bed. If work ended and she did not go home, was there something wrong with her brain?
In any case, it was not as though she had not embarrassed herself in front of Qin Shiyue before. She might as well go back.
If she went back, she had to give a gift.
What should she give?
They had been married for four years, and it seemed she had never given Qin Shiyue anything.
Thinking of four years of marriage, Chu Siyun remembered another headache-inducing matter.
Their wedding anniversary was coming too. The day after Qin Shiyue turned twenty, the two of them had gone to get their marriage certificate.
The day after Qin Shiyue’s birthday was their wedding anniversary.
Dear heavens.
She wanted to treat the child a little better and wanted to return to the family. Then she definitely had to treat the child’s mommy better too, to create a warm family atmosphere.
Why did she have to come to this realization now? Wouldn’t it have been better if she had awakened after those two anniversaries had passed?
Chu Siyun tossed her phone aside and buried herself under the blanket.
She regretted it a little. Could she just ignore the family?
Forget it, forget it. She might as well hurry and plan what gift to give. Why was she thinking about all these useless things?
After hanging up the call, Qin Shiyue smiled and put away her phone.
Seeing Chu Siyun choke was truly interesting.
She checked the text on her computer one last time, then sent it to Party B.
A few seconds later, it was successfully sent. Qin Shiyue clapped her hands, put away her laptop, and turned on the larger monitor.
Today was the finals of the World Championship for the game Two Armies Duel.[1] The two opposing teams were the veteran team EU and the rising star CQ.
Originally, Qin Shiyue had not even remembered there was such a thing. It was only because the person in charge had “taken the liberty of disturbing” her earlier that she remembered to watch.
She was bored anyway.
Two Armies Duel had a broad audience and many people paid attention to it.
EU was very strong. They had won several championships, and the team was full of extremely popular star players, so their heat was very high.
CQ, on the other hand, had been cannon fodder for many years. This year, they had undergone major restructuring and replaced all their players, and their strength instantly increased several times over.
Originally, most viewers had bet the championship on EU, but now many people were starting to waver. CQ’s playstyle was far too pleasantly surprising.
CQ’s newly replaced players were very charming, clean-cut, fresh, polite, and without the slightest bit of airs. They brought CQ quite a lot of traffic.
The match had started at six. It was now past nine, and the score was 3:2. This round would decide whether CQ had any fate with the championship.
Qin Shiyue understood this game fairly well. She played it too.
She went to the small fridge to get a bottle of cola. Just as she sat down again, the screen showed that CQ had won. The score was 3:3, and they would be entering the final showdown.
They had something.
Qin Shiyue opened WeChat and found the team manager’s contact.
Qin Shiyue: [If you win, everyone gets an added bonus.]
The usual gaming routine. Qin Shiyue narrowed her eyes as if she were about to fall asleep.
A dozen minutes later, she suddenly widened her eyes and sat up straight.
Those kids really had something. Their thinking was clear, their strategy was complete, and their mechanics could keep up too.
Facing opponents who had long since become seasoned veterans, they were not afraid of battle at all. They fought back and forth evenly.
One round lasted half an hour before it finally ended. CQ won, narrowly.
Excited, Qin Shiyue slammed her fist on the table.
She did not see clearly and hit off target, smashing her fist straight onto the new keyboard she had just finished assembling yesterday.
……
Joy had turned into sorrow.
Her hand was fine. Qin Shiyue quickly picked up the keyboard to check.
Those few keys seemed to be fine too.
Still worried, Qin Shiyue opened the testing software and tried it.
Very good. It really was fine.
Luckily nothing happened. Otherwise, her heart would have bled.
It was not that this keyboard was especially expensive. The main thing was that the accessories were too hard to buy. She had waited several months before finally gathering them all.
Qin Shiyue threw the empty can on the table into the trash. It was ten o’clock. Time to tidy up, exercise a little, then shower and sleep.
There was a small gym at home. She was used to exercising at night.
When she had still been in school, she used to run at night every day. Later, after having a child, that became running a little at home, then doing some other equipment exercises.
Chu Siyun’s heat had just passed last weekend, so Qin Shiyue would be much more relaxed these next few weeks.
On weekdays, she picked up and dropped off the child during the day. If she was in the mood, she drove herself. If she did not want to move, she called a driver.
The child stayed at school from eight thirty in the morning until three thirty in the afternoon. During that time, Qin Shiyue could do whatever she wanted.
Meals were the same. If she wanted to cook, she cooked. If she did not want to cook, there was an auntie.
As for housework, that went without saying. Unless she truly wanted to do it, there was basically no work for her to find. The auntie was too dedicated.
Chu Xiao was very obedient. As long as Qin Shiyue arranged something for her to do, she would quietly do it and not disturb anyone.
Every day, if Qin Shiyue set aside an hour or so to spend with her, Chu Xiao would be very satisfied.
As for Chu Siyun.
She had become much more dedicated.
Dedicated to the profession of “Mama.”
Now, at night, it was always Chu Siyun who told Chu Xiao stories, while Qin Shiyue listened from the side.
Only when Chu Xiao really could not fall asleep would Qin Shiyue step in and pat her.
A few days passed, and Friday came again.
Chu Siyun’s grandmother had been discharged from the hospital, but her health had suddenly become much worse.
Qin Shiyue planned to take the child with Chu Siyun’s parents on Saturday to visit her.
Although she and Chu Siyun did not have much affection between them, in the eyes of the family, they still counted as a good, respectful pair of wives.
For the things Chu Siyun could not attend to, Qin Shiyue would help do them. That was only right.
They were family. There was no need to divide things too clearly.
She personally drove Chu Xiao to the mall to buy gifts for the elder.
After parking the car, Qin Shiyue prepared to carry Chu Xiao out from the back seat.
But Chu Xiao did not immediately let her pick her up. Instead, she fished a thick red envelope out of her little backpack.
Qin Shiyue asked, “What’s that?”
Chu Xiao held the red envelope carefully in one hand and stretched out her other hand for Mommy to carry her.
“New Year’s money from Grandpa Qin.”
After locking the car, Qin Shiyue asked, “Why did you bring that?”
Chu Xiao opened the red envelope like it was a treasure, peeked inside, then treasuredly closed it again. “To buy you a birthday present! Grandma told me. She said your birthday is coming soon.”
Qin Shiyue suddenly remembered where this red envelope had come from. “So you’ve had this red envelope in your backpack for an entire day?”
Chu Xiao shook her head. “I put it in there the day before yesterday when Grandma told me.”
Qin Shiyue freed one hand and pinched the thickness of the red envelope.
Good grief. There had to be several thousand, maybe even ten thousand, in there. A child a little over three had stuffed such a large red envelope into her bag for two or three days.
How extravagant. When Qin Shiyue had been in middle school, she probably could not even take out that much money.
Just as they entered the mall, Qin Shiyue’s phone rang.
It was her father calling. A video call, too.
As Qin Shiyue answered, she carried Chu Xiao into an ice cream shop and sat down.
The man in the video seemed older, his face full of weathered exhaustion.
Qin Shiyue’s heart had not the slightest ripple. She had just called “Dad” when she turned the phone toward the child. “Xiaoxiao’s here. Talk to her first.”
Qin Shiyue got up to buy ice cream.
Chu Xiao smiled three parts whenever she saw someone. “Grandpa Qin.”
Qin Hao corrected her again. “Xiaoxiao, you can just call me Grandpa. You don’t need to add the surname.”
Chu Xiao would not listen. Mommy had told her before: her grandpa and grandma were Chu Dongnan and Meng Ruolan. Other people were not.
As for Grandpa Qin, that was also what Mommy had told her to call him.
What Mommy said was definitely correct.
Chu Xiao stood on the same front as Mommy.
Grandpa and Grandma were very good. They always liked making delicious food for her and were also very good to Mommy.
One time when Mommy was sick, it had been Grandma who took care of her.
Grandpa Qin was different. Although Grandpa Qin was quite good most of the time, there were always moments when he wanted her to do things she did not like, such as calling him “Grandpa.” She clearly only had one grandpa.
Grandpa Qin was not good to Mommy. Mommy never smiled in front of Grandpa Qin.
As Chu Xiao answered Grandpa Qin’s questions, her eyes kept looking at Mommy.
Mommy was waiting in line. She was almost there.
The line was so slow. She still had to talk to Grandpa Qin for so long. For the sake of the New Year’s money, she would reluctantly chat with him.
Qin Shiyue only bought one ice cream. After handing it to Chu Xiao, she took the phone back.
Qin Hao said unhappily, “Didn’t I tell you? I’m the child’s grandfather. What are you doing as an alpha?”
Qin Shiyue did not even look at him. She said carelessly, “That’s not what you said when I got married. Everyone knows that I married into the Chu family. The child’s surname is Chu. Is there a problem with her calling the Chu family’s parents Grandpa and Grandma?”
Qin Hao could not win an argument with her, so he went straight to the main topic of this call. “Your younger sister is getting engaged tomorrow.”
Qin Shiyue pretended not to understand his implied meaning. “Mm.”
Qin Hao was dissatisfied with her attitude. “What do you mean, mm?”
Qin Shiyue bestowed upon him a “looking at an idiot” gaze and said clearly, word by word, “Mm. I. Heard. You. Clearly. I. Know.”
Qin Hao was so angry that he slapped the table, knocking over the phone propped there. “What kind of attitude is that?”
Qin Shiyue said indifferently, “Does whether Qin Xingyue gets engaged or married have anything to do with me? Didn’t you sell me to the Chu family?”
Qin Hao gritted his molars and asked, “Just tell me whether you’re coming tomorrow or not.”
Qin Shiyue lightly raised her brows. “Not going.”
Qin Hao could not believe his ears. “What did you say?”
Qin Shiyue gave him a trivial explanation. “Chu Siyun’s grandmother is sick. I have to go see her. If I don’t properly act as the Chu family’s daughter-in-law, wouldn’t I make you lose face?”
Qin Hao was furious and did not know what to say. For his daughter’s engagement banquet, he had invited Chu Dongnan, only for the other party to politely decline by saying his mother-in-law was sick. Now this too. Not a single member of the Chu family was coming. He had nowhere to put his face.
Qin Shiyue said calmly, “I’m hanging up, Dad. I have to take good care of the Chu family’s child. Otherwise, wouldn’t I make you lose face?”
After saying that, she hung up without the slightest mercy.
Although Chu Xiao did not understand everything, she knew that Mommy had been scolded by Grandpa Qin again.
Grandpa Qin was always scolding Mommy. He never scolded Aunt Xingyue or Uncle Yangyang.
Chu Xiao offered the ice cream, of which she had only licked the very tip, to Qin Shiyue. “Mommy, don’t be angry. Have a bite.”
Qin Shiyue took the ice cream and finished it off in a few quick bites.
The icy-cold thing went down, and the fire in her stomach was pretty much extinguished.
When she lifted her eyes, she saw her daughter across from her looking like she was about to cry.
Qin Shiyue suddenly realized what she had done and quickly picked up her daughter.
Like a great swindler, she said, “The weather is too cold. Children can’t eat that much cold stuff. Mommy will go buy you something else.”
Chu Xiao pursed her lips, her expression seeming to say: You’d better really mean that.
