A Wealthy Family’s Married-In Alpha Redemption On A Parenting Variety Show - Chapter 6
The call went out, and no one picked up until it disconnected.
Chu Siyun refused to give up and dialed again.
In the end, after calling five times in a row, Chu Siyun gave up.
How was that person still holding a grudge?
This could not all be blamed on her, seriously.
While complaining inwardly, Chu Siyun called again.
Unsurprisingly, no one answered.
Chu Siyun tossed her phone aside, took the script from the head of the bed, and started reading.
If she would not pick up, then she would not pick up. Hmph.
About half an hour later, Chu Siyun’s phone rang.
See? Sure enough, she just had something to do. She had not deliberately refused to answer.
Who knew that when she picked up the phone, it was a call from the director, saying he was treating everyone to dinner.
Chu Siyun tidied herself up a little, changed clothes, and went out.
She had suddenly officially announced that she had a wife and daughter, and had even been photographed with her wife and daughter coming to see her. Everyone wanted to meet them, so they had egged the director into organizing this meal.
After coaxing the child to sleep, Qin Shiyue returned to her own room and took out her phone, which she had barely looked at all afternoon and evening.
The moment she lit up the screen, she was stunned. Twelve missed calls.
At some point, her phone had been silenced, and she had not caught a single one.
As Qin Shiyue returned the call, she picked up a bottle of wine from the liquor cabinet.
The other side picked up instantly.
Before Qin Shiyue could speak, the other person said first, “I’m sorry.”
???
Qin Shiyue did not understand at all. If anyone should be saying sorry, it should be her, right? She was the one who had missed the other person’s calls.
No one responded to her, so Chu Siyun asked carefully, “Are you angry?”
Qin Shiyue shook the wine in her hand. “No.”
Chu Siyun felt extremely wronged and began accusing her like pouring beans from a bamboo tube. “If you aren’t angry, then why didn’t you answer the phone? You didn’t answer in the afternoon, and you didn’t answer at night either. You must be unhappy because you got cursed at after we went public. It’s all because of me. It’s all my fault. I’m sorry.”
Qin Shiyue keenly caught onto something and asked, “Are you drunk?”
Chu Siyun gave the same answer. “No.”
No?
She definitely was.
Qin Shiyue did not like drunk people and did not want to talk nonsense with her. Who knew? After waking up, that person might forget everything.
“Rest properly. Whatever it is, we’ll talk tomorrow.”
Chu Siyun was unwilling. “No.”
Qin Shiyue took a sip of wine and went along with her. “Then what do you want to do?”
Chu Siyun lay on the bed and thought. Right, what did she want?
She did not know.
In any case: “I don’t want to talk tomorrow.”
Qin Shiyue asked again, “Then what do you want to say?”
Another question. Chu Siyun asked herself inwardly: What was it she wanted to say again?
Why had she called again?
“I’m sorry.”
Everything returned to the starting point. Qin Shiyue poured more wine into the empty glass.
“It’s okay.”
Chu Siyun’s eyes lit up. “You forgive me?”
Qin Shiyue went along with her. “Mm.”
Chu Siyun was satisfied. “Then good. I’m going to sleep. You have to sleep too. Good night.”
Sure enough, when dealing with a drunkard, one had to go along with them from the start. Otherwise, there was no escaping.
Qin Shiyue drank the rest of the wine in her glass in one go, then got up and went to the kitchen to wash the glass.
She had slept too much during the day, so now she could not sleep.
Qin Shiyue went to the study and continued installing the keycaps she had only half finished yesterday.
After making sure every single one was properly installed, Qin Shiyue put away the keyboard she had used for a week in front of the monitor and switched in the new one.
Her slender fingers flew over the teal-green keyboard, making for a very pleasing sight.
Five minutes later, Qin Shiyue closed the software.
Her mind could not settle down. She could not write anything at all, so she simply treated it as testing the keyboard.
She was wide awake and did not want to sleep.
So she opened The Sims,[1] which had been sitting in the corner gathering dust.
Create a new map, exploit a bug to get coins, then build a house for the little person named Chu Siyun.
Chu Siyun was so picky. It had to be an entire three-story villa. The pool and bathtub had to be complete, and there had to be some greenery too, otherwise it would be too ugly.
Actually, she had been a little angry at noon.
The hostility online was too heavy. As Chu Siyun’s wife, she would definitely be cursed at. When she agreed to go public, she had already calmly accepted that.
But why were there people talking about the child too?
The child was innocent. No matter how many mistakes there were, they were the mistakes of the mothers. Why would someone speak so viciously without restraint?
Back then, when Chu Siyun was pregnant, Qin Shiyue’s parents had advised her not to return to that circle anymore, to switch to another job, and that she had to take care of her own little family.
And from the beginning of the pregnancy all the way until after the child was born, they had kept persuading her. Chu Siyun had remained unmoved. Once her body recovered, she did not hesitate to leap back into that big dye vat.
If Chu Siyun had not gone back to the entertainment industry, the child should have received more complete love, and there would not be so many things now.
It was inevitable that Qin Shiyue would redirect some of that resentment toward Chu Siyun.
Unfortunately, there were no ifs. Chu Siyun definitely liked that circle. After finally making it to that position, it was impossible for her to leave the industry again for the sake of family and the child.
She was an “unemployed vagrant,” and the child was still young, so the only option was for them to cooperate with Chu Siyun.
Just wait.
Time would dilute everything.
Especially on the internet. Everyone said the internet had no memory. Once this period passed, things would be fine.
And fortunately, her daughter was still too young to understand all these twists and turns. They would simply pretend those malicious comments did not exist and continue living however they were supposed to live.
The framework of the house was finished. Time to decorate.
Qin Shiyue admired her masterpiece. Such a good, such a big house, and “Chu Siyun” got to live in it alone. How nice for her.
The floor should be black, the wallpaper red, the bed yellow, and the curtains dark blue.
In the end, Qin Shiyue looked at the fully renovated house and nodded with satisfaction.
This finally matched her usual style. Not bad at all.
Qin Shiyue stood up and stretched.
It was almost twelve. She had to hurry and sleep.
Tomorrow was the weekend. She had to take the child to the hospital to see the elder.
The person hospitalized was Chu Siyun’s maternal grandmother. She remembered that last year, the old lady had just celebrated her eightieth birthday.
Winter was almost here. Elderly people had weak resistance and did not endure it well.
Chu Siyun sat in the dressing room in a daze, letting the stylist fuss around with her face.
How had she ended up drinking too much at dinner yesterday?
Her alcohol tolerance was clearly not bad, and she was not even someone who loved drinking much.
Now her skull still hurt. She really had brought this suffering upon herself.
In the future, if people toasted her, she would dodge whenever she could. She must have been stupid to accept everything.
Chu Siyun closed her eyes to rest.
She had scenes all day today. This half-dead state of hers was not acceptable.
What a sin.
Once she threw herself into work, Chu Siyun became spirited.
She entrusted her whole body and mind to the performance. This state was very captivating.
Xiao Chen admired her from the side and felt as though even her own realm of existence had risen higher.
Chu Siyun’s phone rang. Xiao Chen glanced at it. It was a message from her wife. She would tell her later.
Yesterday morning, Xiao Chen had taken time to stock up on lots of little snacks and had even bought small toys.
In the end, when she went to find Teacher Chu in the afternoon, she discovered that her wife and child had already gone back.
It was truly strange. In the past, whenever Miss Qin came over, she would stay for two nights.
Maybe it was because she had brought the child this time.
Little Chu Xiao really was very cute.
Although her crying at night and wanting Mommy had left Xiao Chen completely helpless, in her heart, Chu Xiao was still an adorable little angel.
After Chu Siyun finished filming, she took the phone Xiao Chen handed over and looked at it while drinking water.
Qin Shiyue had sent her a WeChat message telling her about the family situation.
[Grandma is in the hospital. They didn’t want me to tell you.]
[She actually misses you a lot. The drive back and forth is only a few hours, and the high-speed train is even faster. Take a day off and come back to see her.]
There was also a photo attached afterward.
An elderly woman with white hair, wearing a hospital gown, lay on a hospital bed with quite a few instruments attached to her body.
The old woman’s face was thin and gaunt, her lips pale. She was saying something to the person keeping watch beside the bed.
When Chu Siyun was little, if her parents were busy, she would stay at Grandma’s house. Grandma loved her very much.
Grandma was an excellent cook and could also play the piano. She was skillful and clever with both heart and hands.
Chu Siyun replied with an “Okay.” Just as she was about to put away her phone, she suddenly saw that there was a video call above, with a call duration of one hundred and two minutes.
??!
Chu Siyun swiped upward and discovered that before this video call, there had been nothing but unanswered video call requests.
Counting the one that had connected, there were sixteen in total.
She remembered calling Qin Shiyue by phone. How had it turned into a video call?
Chu Siyun flipped through the call records again.
That was right. She had called more than ten times, and none were answered. Finally, there was a three-minute call.
So what was with that video?
No wonder her head felt like it was about to explode when she woke up in the morning. Even if she had been hungover, after sleeping for more than ten hours, she should have recovered.
So it turned out she had not slept properly at all.
But what had she been doing during those one hundred and two minutes?
