After Differentiation, I Marked My Arch-nemesis - Chapter 41
Lu Yaoyi knelt beside Jiang Youli, still holding the puppy, and watched Jiang Youli, who was in obvious pain and crying.
She frowned in concern and said, “I wasn’t cursing you. I was just worried that I might have broken you because you’re in so much pain…”
Jiang Youli: “…”
Lu Yaoyi: “Jiang Youli… are you okay?”
Jiang Youli’s lower body was in so much pain it felt like it wasn’t her own.
Tears uncontrollably streamed from her eyes and fell onto the floor. She used the last bit of her strength to say,
“Don’t talk to me… I’ll be fine after a while…”
Lu Yaoyi: “Okay…”
After a while.
Jiang Youli finally recovered from the intense pain in her lower body. The redness that had climbed up her face and the bulging veins on her neck gradually faded. In all the time she’d been an Alpha, she never thought that getting hit there would hurt so much.
Lu Yaoyi’s fall just now almost took her out completely.
It really hurt…
She now knew the most fatal weakness of an Alpha.
She wiped her face and slowly sat up from the floor.
Seeing this, Lu Yaoyi quickly put the puppy on the floor and reached out to help Jiang Youli up. Jiang Youli immediately refused. “It’s fine, you don’t need to help me.”
She added with a serious expression, “I’m not broken. I can move on my own.”
Lu Yaoyi had no choice but to retract her hand. “Okay…”
Jiang Youli slowly stood up and felt that her legs were a little weak, but the pain in her lower body wasn’t as bad as before. She stood firm and slowly walked to the sofa to sit down. She then took off her slippers and sat with her legs crossed as if comforting herself.
If Lu Yaoyi wasn’t in front of her, and if this was her own home and not Lu Yaoyi’s, she probably would have taken off her pants to check that thing.
She slowly lowered her head.
Sigh… this is so embarrassing…
Not only had she bumped into Lu Yaoyi with her body, but she had also clutched that thing in front of Lu Yaoyi and almost died from the pain. It was just too embarrassing. She suddenly felt that Lu Yaoyi had seen all of her pathetic moments.
“…”
Is God playing a trick on her?
How annoying…
Lu Yaoyi walked over with the puppy and sat on the sofa. She looked at Jiang Youli with a worried expression and asked, “Jiang Youli… do you want to go to the hospital?”
Jiang Youli: “…”
She gently shook her head. “No… I’ll be fine after a little rest.”
“Just pretend… this never happened.”
She really felt it was too embarrassing.
Lu Yaoyi couldn’t help but ask, “What if I really broke you?”
Jiang Youli: “…”
She looked at Lu Yaoyi speechlessly. “Do you want me to be broken that much?”
Lu Yaoyi was an Omega who wanted to be marked for life by Jiang Youli. Of course, she didn’t want anything to happen to Jiang Youli’s body. If Jiang Youli was broken, it would mean that Jiang Youli might not be able to do the things she had always wanted to do and mark her for life. So she said, “No… I’m just worried about you…”
“It’s fine,” Jiang Youli said. “We’ll see if I’m broken later.”
She then suddenly held out her hands to Lu Yaoyi. “Let me hold it.”
Lu Yaoyi looked down at the puppy in her arms, then handed the puppy to Jiang Youli. “You rest here for a bit. I’ll be right back.”
She then got up and left.
Jiang Youli watched Lu Yaoyi’s back. “Where are you going?”
Lu Yaoyi: “The kitchen.”
Jiang Youli looked away and at the puppy in her arms. After being washed, the puppy was now clean and smelled good, and it looked much better. She figured it was probably a stray pure white country dog. If Li Henian wasn’t allergic to dog fur, she would have definitely taken this cute little guy in.
A short while later, Lu Yaoyi walked over with a steaming bowl.
Lu Yaoyi carefully placed the bowl on the coffee table in front of them, then looked at Jiang Youli, who was gently stroking the puppy, and said, “Jiang Youli, you got soaked in the rain. Drink this ginger soup to warm up so you don’t get a cold.”
Jiang Youli looked up at the ginger soup on the coffee table.
Lu Yaoyi had only been in the kitchen for a couple of minutes. How had she made ginger soup so quickly? She asked in confusion, “When did you make this ginger soup?”
Lu Yaoyi: “While you were bathing it.”
Jiang Youli: “Oh…”
Was Lu Yaoyi this thoughtful?
“You should drink the ginger soup while it’s hot. Drink it now,” Lu Yaoyi said as she sat next to Jiang Youli and held out her hands. “Give it to me.”
Jiang Youli obediently handed the puppy to Lu Yaoyi. “Okay.”
Lu Yaoyi placed the puppy on her lap and gently stroked its head over and over again. The puppy obediently lay on Lu Yaoyi’s lap and wagged its tail.
It also let out a few tiny barks.
“Woof woof woof~”
The puppy seemed to really like and enjoy Lu Yaoyi stroking its head.
Jiang Youli shifted and leaned over to pick up the bowl of ginger soup from the coffee table and gently blew on it. She heard the puppy’s barks and looked over. Lu Yaoyi’s flawless profile came into view. Jiang Youli looked at Lu Yaoyi’s gentle eyes and was momentarily lost in thought. If Lu Meishan was the gentlest Omega she had ever met,
Then Lu Yaoyi must have inherited Lu Meishan’s gentleness.
She had never seen Lu Yaoyi this gentle.
Or maybe she had.
It was just that… she had never really looked at Lu Yaoyi this closely before.
As she looked at Lu Yaoyi, she suddenly felt that Lu Yaoyi wasn’t that annoying after all. She even wondered why she had hated Lu Yaoyi in the first place.
She couldn’t seem to find any reason to hate Lu Yaoyi.
It was like a petty and inexplicable… hatred.
“Jiang Youli.”
Lu Yaoyi’s pleasant voice brought Jiang Youli back to reality.
Jiang Youli came to her senses. “Huh?”
“You don’t need to find a new owner for it,” Lu Yaoyi said softly, gently stroking the puppy on her lap. “It can stay at my house.”
Jiang Youli was slightly taken aback.
She looked at Lu Yaoyi in disbelief. “You’re willing to take it in?”
Lu Yaoyi: “Mhm.”
She looked up at Jiang Youli, meeting her surprised gaze. She then gently curled her lips into a smile. “I’m willing to take it in.”
Jiang Youli: “Why?”
Lu Yaoyi looked into Jiang Youli’s eyes and said in her heart,
Because of you. If I take it in, it might bring us closer, and it might make you dislike me less. I also genuinely want to help you and take it in. But I’ll keep all of that to myself and won’t tell you.
She looked at Jiang Youli and said simply, “I like it. It’s very cute.”
Jiang Youli: “What about Aunt Lu and Aunt Guan…”
Lu Yaoyi: “Mom and them have always wanted a dog, but they were too busy with work to take care of one. But I just messaged them and asked for their opinion, and they’re all willing to take it in. They said as long as I’m willing to take care of it, it’s fine. So you don’t have to worry about that. They’ve already agreed.”
Jiang Youli felt a mix of emotions and didn’t know how to express her feelings. She had never expected Lu Yaoyi to take in the puppy.
“Jiang Youli,” Lu Yaoyi said, stroking the puppy. “Give it a name.”
Jiang Youli was stunned for a moment.
“You’re the one who saved it,” Lu Yaoyi looked up to meet Jiang Youli’s gaze. “So you should be the one to name it. I’m sure it wants you to name it, too.”
Jiang Youli: “You should name it. You’re its owner.”
Lu Yaoyi: “If you hadn’t saved it, I wouldn’t be its owner.”
Jiang Youli: “Okay, fine. Let me think.”
Lu Yaoyi: “Mhm.”
Jiang Youli had never had a pet or named a pet before, so she wasn’t good at it. She looked down in thought for a moment, then looked at Lu Yaoyi and said, “How about calling it Lucky?”
Lu Yaoyi slightly raised an eyebrow. “Why Lucky?”
“Because it was lucky to meet me, and it’s also lucky to have met you, who’s willing to take it in and be its owner,” Jiang Youli said proudly, her eyes shining brightly. “How’s that name? Doesn’t it sound nice and have a lot of meaning?”
“Yes,” Lu Yaoyi’s eyes curved in a gentle smile. “Lucky it is.”
Jiang Youli nodded. “Mhm.”
“Hurry up and drink your ginger soup,” Lu Yaoyi said, her gaze falling on the bowl of ginger soup in Jiang Youli’s hands. “How about we take it to the vet together later?”
Jiang Youli: “Okay.”
That night, the heavy rain had stopped for a while.
When Jiang Youli and Lu Yaoyi returned from the pet hospital with Lucky, it was already 7:30 p.m. Lucky was fine, just a little malnourished. It would be able to get its shots in a few days after it recovered.
The taxi they were in stopped at the gate of Lu Yaoyi’s house. Lu Yaoyi got out with Lucky in her arms, while Jiang Youli got out with two large bags of food they had bought for Lucky.
They walked toward Lu Yaoyi’s house together.
A short while later, Lu Yaoyi rang the doorbell.
Lu Meishan came to open the door.
Jiang Youli smiled politely and greeted her. “Good evening, Aunt Lu.”
Lu Meishan looked at Jiang Youli and smiled gently. “Good evening, Dingding.”
She then looked at Lucky in Lu Yaoyi’s arms.
She happily looked at Lucky, then took the puppy from Lu Yaoyi’s arms as she spoke. “Is this Lucky? It’s so cute! Let me hold it.”
Lu Yaoyi handed Lucky to Lu Meishan.
“Aunt Lu, these are the dog food and treats we bought for Lucky,” Jiang Youli walked over and put the two bags on the floor inside the door. “It’s getting late, so I’ll be heading back. My little dad is waiting for me to go home and eat.”
Lu Meishan nodded gently. “Okay. Yaoyao, go walk Dingding out.”
Hearing this, Jiang Youli quickly refused. “You don’t have to, Aunt Lu.”
Her house was right next door, so Lu Yaoyi didn’t need to walk her back.
Lu Yaoyi ignored Jiang Youli and turned to walk down the moonlit, still-wet cobblestone path. “Come on, Jiang Youli. I’ll walk you home.”
Jiang Youli: “…”
She couldn’t refuse again, so she turned and followed. “Goodbye, Aunt Lu.”
Lu Meishan: “Goodbye.”
The two walked forward under the moonlight.
Jiang Youli subtly observed Lu Yaoyi. She realized she hadn’t properly thanked Lu Yaoyi today. They were just a few steps away from her house, so she suddenly stopped and called out, “Lu Yaoyi.”
Lu Yaoyi stopped and looked at Jiang Youli. “What is it?”
The moonlight shone on Lu Yaoyi, making her clear eyes look especially bright. Jiang Youli felt a little awkward looking into Lu Yaoyi’s eyes, but her expression was very serious and sincere. “Thank you for today. Thank you for letting me bring Lucky to your house to bathe and for being willing to take Lucky in. Thank you so much.”
Lu Yaoyi could feel the sincerity in Jiang Youli’s eyes.
Jiang Youli was genuinely thanking her.
She curled her lips into a smile. “You’re welcome, Jiang Youli.”
Jiang Youli felt even more awkward looking at Lu Yaoyi’s beautiful, smiling eyes. She was a person who was clear about what was right and wrong and always repaid kindness. She was very grateful for Lu Yaoyi’s help today. She suddenly felt that Lu Yaoyi wasn’t as annoying as she had always thought. She wasn’t that bad; she was just a little more narcissistic than others.
However…
She would never admit that she had changed her opinion of Lu Yaoyi.
So she looked away and purposely put on a straight face. “Since you let me bring Lucky to your house and took in that poor little thing today, I’ll apologize for all the bad things I’ve done to you in the past. I’m sorry, Lu Yaoyi. From now on, for Lucky’s sake, I’ll be a little nicer to you.”
As soon as she finished speaking, she suddenly lifted her chin slightly and snorted.
“Don’t get ahead of yourself.”
Then she held up her left hand and used her thumb and index finger to form a very small, almost invisible line. “For Lucky’s sake, I’ll be this much nicer to you, but that doesn’t mean I like you or want to be your friend.”
“I just… won’t hate you or bully you like I used to.”
Hearing this, a profound light shimmered in Lu Yaoyi’s eyes.
She moved her lips and said softly, “Okay.”
Lucky really is the key to bringing her and Jiang Youli closer. She thought she could slowly improve her relationship with Jiang Youli through Lucky.
Jiang Youli finally put down her strange awkwardness and looked at Lu Yaoyi. She then said, “Okay, I’m home. You should go back now.”
Lu Yaoyi: “Mhm.”
She then immediately added, “Um… Jiang Youli…”
Jiang Youli: “What is it?”
Lu Yaoyi: “I accidentally hit you today… Are you really okay?”
Jiang Youli: “…”
She had almost forgotten about that embarrassing incident. “I’m fine.”
Lu Yaoyi blinked. “What if… something did happen?”
Jiang Youli: “…”
She suddenly felt that Lu Yaoyi was hoping that something had happened to that part of her body. So she looked at Lu Yaoyi and said, “If something happened, you’re responsible.”
She thought Lu Yaoyi definitely wouldn’t take responsibility for her.
If she said that, Lu Yaoyi would probably stop asking if she was okay, right?
Lu Yaoyi’s heart trembled, and she didn’t say anything.
Jiang Youli saw that Lu Yaoyi was quiet and knew she was right. Lu Yaoyi wouldn’t take responsibility for her. But it wasn’t like she wanted Lu Yaoyi to anyway. So she said simply, “Okay, I’m leaving. It’s late. Hurry back.”
She then turned and walked away.
Lu Yaoyi watched Jiang Youli’s back and called out, “Jiang Youli.”
Jiang Youli stopped and looked back.
Lu Yaoyi: “Happy birthday.”
Jiang Youli: “I know. Hurry back now. It’s late.”
When Jiang Youli got back to her room, she immediately went to the bathroom. What Lu Yaoyi had said reminded her, so she was going to check if she was really broken. She took off her clothes, sat on the toilet, and looked at her body.
The pain was gone.
But she was still a little worried.
So she started to get her body to its peak state, and then, just like before, she embraced herself. The sensations were the same as before. After confirming that her body was not broken and was fine, she relaxed.
About an hour later, she finally released herself. She wiped away all her “sins” and let out a long sigh of relief. Now, she really didn’t need Lu Yaoyi to take responsibility.
She was not broken.
