After Differentiation, I Marked My Arch-nemesis - Chapter 48
The night sky was as black as a bottomless sea, with bright stars twinkling within. The moon’s silvery glow covered the earth, enveloping the night in a fragrant scent, and the streets and alleys of Jiangcheng were lit up with a kaleidoscope of colorful lights.
The living room of Jiang Youli’s house was brightly lit.
Lu Yaoyi sat alone in the living room, watching TV.
After a while, she heard the front door open.
Lu Yaoyi knew it must be Li Henian. She sat obediently on the sofa and waited for him. Sure enough, she soon saw his figure.
Li Henian walked into the living room, carrying two large bags full of groceries.
A black suit jacket was draped over his shoulder.
Lu Yaoyi stood up and called softly, “Uncle Li, you’re back.”
Li Henian’s gaze was gentle. “Yaoyao, you’re here.”
Lu Yaoyi: “Mhm.”
Li Henian looked around the living room and didn’t see Jiang Youli. He walked over to Lu Yaoyi and asked, “Yaoyao, why are you alone in the living room? Where’s Dingding?”
Lu Yaoyi: “Dingding went upstairs.”
Li Henian: “I see…”
He put down the two large bags, then placed the suit jacket from his shoulder on the sofa. His voice was gentle and calming. “You must be hungry since it’s so late. I’ll go to the kitchen and make dinner. Dingding told me you like chicken wings and ribs, so I bought chicken wings and ribs today.”
With that, he picked up the two large bags and walked toward the kitchen.
He stopped after two steps.
He then turned back, looked at Lu Yaoyi’s eyes, and said, “Yaoyao, why don’t you go upstairs and call Dingding? We’re about to eat anyway, so it’s a good idea to have her come down early.”
Lu Yaoyi nodded. “Okay.”
She had been wanting to go upstairs and find Jiang Youli the entire time she was sitting in the living room.
Now she finally had a reason.
Li Henian: “Mhm, then you should go.”
With that, he picked up the two bags and turned to walk to the kitchen.
After Li Henian’s figure disappeared, Lu Yaoyi walked toward the stairs in the other direction. As soon as she got to the second floor, she heard the sound of rolling luggage wheels. She then ran into Jiang Youli, who was dragging a suitcase toward the stairs.
Her eyes landed on the suitcase Jiang Youli was pulling.
Then she asked, “What are you doing with a suitcase?”
Jiang Youli dragged the suitcase to Lu Yaoyi. As if resigned to her fate, she said helplessly, “Didn’t we say I was going to stay at your house tonight? Aunt Lu and Aunt Guan don’t know when they’ll be back, so to make it easier to get ready, I decided to pack some clothes to take to your place.”
Lu Yaoyi suppressed her inner excitement and looked at Jiang Youli calmly.
Jiang Youli met Lu Yaoyi’s gaze. “Why did you come up here?”
“Uncle Li is back and is making dinner in the kitchen,” Lu Yaoyi said, looking into Jiang Youli’s eyes. “We’re about to eat, and he asked me to come up and call you.”
“Oh,” Jiang Youli said blandly. “Then let’s go.”
Lu Yaoyi: “Mhm.”
It was after 9 p.m. when dinner ended. After cleaning up the kitchen, Li Henian went to the living room and said to Jiang Youli and Lu Yaoyi, “You two have to get up early for school tomorrow. You should go now. Go to bed early and don’t be late.”
Jiang Youli and Lu Yaoyi nodded.
Li Henian walked Jiang Youli and Lu Yaoyi to the door and repeatedly told them, “Remember to lock the door at night. Call me if you need anything, and don’t forget to set your alarms.”
Jiang Youli: “Got it.”
Li Henian handed the suitcase to Jiang Youli. “Okay, you two can go now.”
Jiang Youli: “Bye.”
With that, she dragged the suitcase and turned to walk toward the gate.
Lu Yaoyi’s voice was gentle. “Goodbye, Uncle Li.”
Li Henian: “Mhm.”
Lu Yaoyi followed Jiang Youli with graceful steps.
Li Henian stood at the door, watching as Jiang Youli and Lu Yaoyi’s backs slowly disappeared into the beautiful night. A knowing smile gradually appeared on his lips.
These two kids were a perfect match.
He said to himself.
The air was filled with the scent of the cold moon and leaves. Moonlight shone down on Jiang Youli and Lu Yaoyi. Jiang Youli walked in front of Lu Yaoyi, dragging her suitcase. The sound of the wheels was especially jarring in the silent night.
And it was annoying to hear. Thankfully, they arrived at Lu Yaoyi’s house soon.
Lu Yaoyi stood at the door and took out the key to open it.
The door opened.
They saw Lucky standing at the door, wagging her little tail and looking at them.
Lucky also barked a few times.
“Woof, woof, woof—”
Jiang Youli looked down at the cute little Lucky, and her mood suddenly became very good. She carried her suitcase inside, put it down, and crouched down, holding out her arms to Lucky. “Lucky, come here and let me hold you.”
Lucky was overjoyed and immediately ran into Jiang Youli’s arms.
She really liked Jiang Youli.
And she kept licking Jiang Youli’s face.
Jiang Youli couldn’t help but laugh at Lucky’s enthusiasm. She picked up Lucky with one arm, stood up, changed into her slippers, and walked inside with her suitcase.
“Lucky~ Why are you so cute?”
Lucky barked a few more times.
“Woof, woof, woof—”
Lu Yaoyi looked at Jiang Youli’s back, who was holding Lucky and pulling her suitcase.
A beautiful smile appeared on her lips.
How wonderful…
She had to cherish this hard-won alone time with Jiang Youli.
Time passed quickly, and it was Friday before they knew it.
The temperature had dropped sharply in the past two days, and there had also been a heavy rainstorm.
For the past two days, Jiang Youli had been taking a taxi to school with Lu Yaoyi so as not to trouble Li Henian. Today, the rain had finally stopped, and the sun was out.
But the wind was still very strong.
Jiang Youli and Lu Yaoyi left the house on their bicycles together this morning.
When they arrived at school, they happened to run into Chen Huaian, who was waiting for Jiang Youli at the school gate. Chen Huaian waved at Jiang Youli. “Hey, Boss!”
Jiang Youli rode her bicycle toward Chen Huaian.
Lu Yaoyi rode directly into the school gate.
Chen Huaian looked at Lu Yaoyi’s retreating back and then asked Jiang Youli curiously, “Boss, why have you been coming to school with Lu Yaoyi these past few days? Did you and Lu Yaoyi shake hands and become best friends?”
Jiang Youli was a little speechless.
Best friends?
She and Lu Yaoyi would never shake hands and become best friends in this lifetime.
However, she could be a little nicer to Lu Yaoyi.
So she answered blandly, “It’s a long story. Let’s not talk about it.”
Chen Huaian saw that Jiang Youli didn’t want to talk, so he didn’t press her. Instead, he turned his bicycle around and grinned at Jiang Youli. “Let’s go, Boss. Let’s go back to the classroom and sleep.”
Jiang Youli rode forward on her bicycle. “Let’s go.”
Soon, Jiang Youli and Chen Huaian were back in their seats.
As soon as Jiang Youli sat down, she once again saw a red, anonymous letter in her desk. She frowned, took the red letter out of the drawer, and impatiently slapped it on Chen Huaian’s desk. “Huaian, throw this away for me.”
Chen Huaian looked down at the red envelope on his desk and asked, “What is this?”
Jiang Youli: “A love letter.”
Chen Huaian: “…”
He unconsciously raised his voice. “A love letter?!”
Hearing this, Lu Yaoyi looked up at Jiang Youli, who was sitting in front of her.
Her eyes slowly fell on the red envelope on Chen Huaian’s desk.
She heard Jiang Youli say, “Yeah, a love letter.”
Chen Huaian picked up the red envelope and looked at it. “For you?”
Jiang Youli: “Then why is it in my desk?”
Chen Huaian suddenly laughed. “Boss, I can’t believe someone still dares to write you a love letter. I thought no one in the school would dare to write one to you anymore.”
Jiang Youli: “To be honest, I didn’t think anyone would send me a love letter either.”
She glanced at the red envelope indifferently. “And they’ve sent it three times.”
Chen Huaian said in surprise, “They’ve already sent three?”
Jiang Youli: “Mhm.”
She thought for a moment and then continued, “This person didn’t send me a love letter during the midterm exams last week, but from two weeks ago until today, this is the third one. And this person only sends me love letters on Fridays.”
She couldn’t figure out why this person only sent her love letters on Fridays.
“I don’t know why it’s only on Fridays.”
“Boss,” Chen Huaian said thoughtfully, “do you know who sent it?”
Jiang Youli said a little speechlessly, “It’s an anonymous letter.”
The implication was that she didn’t know who had sent the anonymous love letter.
Chen Huaian looked at the beautiful patterns on the red envelope and thought seriously. “Boss, do you want to know who sent you the love letter?”
Hearing this, Jiang Youli answered without hesitation, “No.”
Then she added, “But…”
Chen Huaian looked at Jiang Youli’s profile. “But what?”
Jiang Youli: “I want them to stop sending them.”
She had never liked receiving love letters. She would prefer it if they just came and confessed to her openly so she could reject them to their face and end their fantasies. She felt that the Omega who could make her heart flutter hadn’t appeared yet.
Chen Huaian was immediately interested. “That’s easy.”
Jiang Youli didn’t say anything.
“Boss,” Chen Huaian continued, “I can help you catch this person.”
Jiang Youli looked at Chen Huaian. “How?”
“Didn’t you say this person only sends you love letters on Fridays? That means they’ll send you another one next Friday,” Chen Huaian said with a sly grin. “We just have to stake out the school early next Friday, and I guarantee we’ll catch the person who’s sending you this anonymous love letter.”
Jiang Youli thought for a moment. “Mhm… that’s true.”
“Boss, leave this to me,” Chen Huaian said, patting Jiang Youli’s shoulder confidently. “I’ll make sure to find out who this person is.”
Jiang Youli took out her phone from her school uniform pocket. “Mhm.”
Chen Huaian: “Boss, do you want to read this love letter first?”
Jiang Youli: “No.”
Chen Huaian: “Then I’ll go throw it away?”
Jiang Youli: “Throw it.”
Chen Huaian: “Got it.”
With that, he got up and threw the anonymous love letter into the trash can.
Lu Yaoyi saw Chen Huaian throw the red anonymous love letter into the trash out of the corner of her eye. She then calmly looked back down at her English book.
She didn’t feel a sense of danger from the fact that someone was sending Jiang Youli a love letter.
Instead, she felt…
That she should make better use of this opportunity to live under the same roof.
That night.
Jiang Youli went out with her friends and didn’t come home for dinner. Lu Yaoyi went back home after eating dinner at Jiang Youli’s house. Once she got home, she sat on the sofa, hugged Lucky, and watched TV. It was already around 9:30 p.m.
Lu Yaoyi’s phone suddenly dinged.
She picked up her phone and saw a few messages from Jiang Youli.
She opened them.
—Lu Yaoyi, I’ll probably be home very late.
—I have the spare key with me.
—Lock the door and go to bed early. You don’t have to wait for me.
Lu Yaoyi simply replied with one word.
—Okay.
The biting cold wind that frequently blew in from the window made the curtains flutter, causing Lu Yaoyi to shiver. She curled up her legs and didn’t think much of it.
Then she hugged Lucky tightly and continued to sit on the sofa and watch TV.
It was late at night.
By the time Jiang Youli got home, it was already 12:30 a.m.
She thought Lu Yaoyi had already gone to her room to sleep, but the living room light was still on, as if it were daytime. She then thought that maybe Lu Yaoyi had left it on for her. When she walked into the living room, she realized that Lu Yaoyi hadn’t left the light on for her.
Because Lu Yaoyi was sound asleep on the living room sofa.
Lucky was also sleeping beside Lu Yaoyi.
Jiang Youli quietly walked over and looked down at Lu Yaoyi, who was in a deep sleep. Lu Yaoyi’s features were delicate, gentle, and beautiful. The faint blush on her face gave her a charming and alluring look. Jiang Youli’s gaze became tender and gentle. Lu Yaoyi, when she was quiet and not arguing with her, was truly captivating.
How great would it be if she were always this gentle.
She didn’t waste any time and nudged Lu Yaoyi’s shoulder.
“Lu Yaoyi.”
Lu Yaoyi didn’t respond.
Jiang Youli called her name a few more times, but Lu Yaoyi still didn’t respond. She then crouched down and pinched Lu Yaoyi’s cheek to try and wake her up. However, the heat coming from her fingertips startled her. She quickly placed her palm against Lu Yaoyi’s forehead.
So hot.
