After Differentiation, I Marked My Arch-nemesis - Chapter 49
The heat radiating from her palm and Lu Yaoyi’s flushed cheeks made Jiang Youli wonder if Lu Yaoyi was in heat and had forgotten to take her inhibitors, causing a rut. However, she quickly dismissed the idea.
She didn’t smell Lu Yaoyi’s pheromones.
Once an Omega’s body started a rut, they couldn’t help but go into heat, and they would uncontrollably release pheromones to attract a mate. If an Alpha sensed the Omega’s mating signal and couldn’t resist the temptation, one could imagine what would happen.
Other than that one time in the bathroom,
Jiang Youli had never smelled Lu Yaoyi’s pheromones at school. Lu Yaoyi usually hid her pheromones so well that it was impossible for her to make such a dangerous and careless mistake.
Just then,
A chilly, biting wind blew in from the window, causing Jiang Youli’s beautiful black hair, which was draped over her shoulders, to flutter. Jiang Youli looked in the direction the wind was coming from.
She saw the tree branches swaying and rustling in the wind.
Jiang Youli then realized that Lu Yaoyi might have a fever from being exposed to the wind.
She looked away and down at the sleeping Lu Yaoyi.
The temperature at night was very low.
How could Lu Yaoyi not get a fever from being exposed to the wind while sleeping on the sofa without a blanket? She couldn’t let Lu Yaoyi sleep on the sofa any longer, and she didn’t care about the fact that Alphas and Omegas shouldn’t have too much physical contact.
So she reached out and leaned down to carry Lu Yaoyi back to her room.
Lu Yaoyi was slender and thin.
Jiang Youli picked up Lu Yaoyi with no effort and couldn’t help but think that Lu Yaoyi was too thin and felt like there was no meat on her. She needed to tell Li Henian to cook some good food to help Lu Yaoyi nourish her body. She then walked to the stairs with large strides.
She carried Lu Yaoyi upstairs.
Just then, a very weak voice came from her arms.
“Jiang Youli… you’re back…”
Jiang Youli looked down at Lu Yaoyi in her arms and met Lu Yaoyi’s dazed and pitiful gaze. She had wanted to scold Lu Yaoyi for not going back to her room to sleep, but seeing her so frail, she suddenly couldn’t say it.
She had to swallow the words.
She was suddenly a little glad she didn’t stay at the hotel with Cen Ziqin and the others tonight. Otherwise, Lu Yaoyi would have probably laid in the living room, exposed to the wind all night, and frozen.
She pursed her lips and answered in a low voice, “Mhm.”
Lu Yaoyi, with her tired eyes half-closed, looked at Jiang Youli. She then weakly raised her hands and hooked them around Jiang Youli’s neck. “Why… why are you suddenly holding me…”
Jiang Youli: “You have a fever.”
She carried Lu Yaoyi to the second floor. “So I’m carrying you back to your room.”
Lu Yaoyi leaned against Jiang Youli weakly and didn’t say anything. No wonder she felt dizzy and weak when she woke up. So she had a fever.
Jiang Youli carried Lu Yaoyi to Lu Yaoyi’s room and pushed the door open.
A fresh and elegant scent of hyacinths wafted out.
This was Lu Yaoyi’s scent.
In an instant, an inexplicable heat stirred inside Jiang Youli.
Her legs also felt a little weak.
Every corner of Lu Yaoyi’s room smelled like Lu Yaoyi. Jiang Youli hadn’t expected to be so sensitive to Lu Yaoyi’s scent, but she had to admit that she really liked Lu Yaoyi’s pheromones. She didn’t think too much about it and walked inside.
Then, she carefully placed Lu Yaoyi on the soft, comfortable bed.
She bent down to tuck the blanket around Lu Yaoyi. “I’ll go downstairs and get a thermometer to check your temperature. Don’t go to sleep yet. Wait until you’ve had the fever medicine.”
Lu Yaoyi nodded slightly.
Only then did Jiang Youli feel at ease to turn around and leave Lu Yaoyi’s room.
She remembered that Lu Yaoyi’s medicine cabinet was in the TV stand. She walked to the living room and went straight to the TV stand, where she found the medicine cabinet.
She picked up the medicine cabinet and went to the water dispenser to get a cup of warm water.
Then, she turned around and went back to Lu Yaoyi’s room.
Lu Yaoyi was lying in bed with a terrible headache. She forced herself to stay awake, watching Jiang Youli walk into the room. She felt so unwell that she just wanted to sleep and not talk.
Jiang Youli walked over and put the medicine cabinet and the cup on the bedside table.
She moved to sit on the edge of the bed. “I’ll take your temperature first.”
Lu Yaoyi: “Mhm…”
Jiang Youli opened the medicine cabinet, took out the thermometer, and placed it on Lu Yaoyi’s forehead to check her temperature. The thermometer showed 38.5℃.
She looked down at Lu Yaoyi and said, “38.5.”
A moderate fever.
After taking Lu Yaoyi’s temperature, she put the thermometer back in the medicine cabinet. “Take some fever medicine first to see if it can bring the fever down. If not, I’ll take you to the hospital.”
Lu Yaoyi nodded gently. “Mhm…”
Jiang Youli leaned over to help Lu Yaoyi sit up. “Sit up and take your medicine first.”
Lu Yaoyi obediently sat up with Jiang Youli’s help.
Jiang Youli took the fever medicine from the medicine cabinet, placed it in her palm, and handed the medicine and the cup of water to Lu Yaoyi. “Drink it. The water is warm, not hot at all.”
Lu Yaoyi took the medicine and drank all the warm water.
Jiang Youli took the cup from Lu Yaoyi’s hand and placed it on the bedside table.
She gently helped Lu Yaoyi lie back down, her movements as careful as if she were afraid of breaking a fragile treasure. “I’ll go to the bathroom and get a basin of cold water to wipe your face. You’ll feel more comfortable after wiping your face with cold water before you sleep. Wait for me for a bit, I’ll be right back.”
Lu Yaoyi: “Mhm…”
Jiang Youli got up and walked toward the bathroom.
Lu Yaoyi looked at Jiang Youli’s back and still felt too unwell, so she closed her eyes.
Jiang Youli found a new towel in the cabinet under the sink.
She washed the new towel twice with hot water, then got a basin of cold water and put the towel in it. She then carried the basin of cold water out of the bathroom and returned to Lu Yaoyi’s side.
She saw that Lu Yaoyi’s eyes were closed and thought she was asleep.
She put the basin of cold water on the floor and called out softly, “Lu Yaoyi.”
Lu Yaoyi slowly opened her eyes. “Mhm?”
“Nothing,” Jiang Youli looked at Lu Yaoyi. “I thought you were asleep.”
With that, she crouched down, took the towel out of the cold water, and wrung it out. She then sat on the edge of the bed and gently and carefully wiped Lu Yaoyi’s face. Her movements were very light and gentle, as if she were treating Lu Yaoyi like a precious treasure. Even her gaze became much gentler.
Lu Yaoyi stared at Jiang Youli, who was wiping her face with the towel.
The tip of her nose felt a little sore.
This was the first time she had seen such a gentle and considerate Jiang Youli.
Jiang Youli… she was actually very good at taking care of people…
She really, really liked Jiang Youli.
After Jiang Youli finished wiping Lu Yaoyi’s face, she put the towel back in the basin.
She took a cooling patch out of the medicine cabinet, tore open the packaging, and placed the cooling patch on Lu Yaoyi’s forehead. She then said to Lu Yaoyi, “All right, you can go to sleep now.”
With that, she suddenly stood up.
Seeing this, Lu Yaoyi quickly called out to Jiang Youli, “Where are you going?”
Jiang Youli picked up the cooling patch packaging from the table and bent down to pick up the basin. She looked at Lu Yaoyi. “I’m going to throw out the trash and dump the water. It’s very late now. Go to sleep.”
Lu Yaoyi held onto the blanket and didn’t say anything.
Jiang Youli turned and walked toward the bathroom, throwing the packaging into the trash can on the way.
Soon, Jiang Youli came out of the bathroom and returned to Lu Yaoyi’s side. She saw that Lu Yaoyi was still awake with her eyes open, so she asked, “Why aren’t you sleeping yet?”
Lu Yaoyi looked at Jiang Youli pitifully. “Can… can you not leave?”
Jiang Youli: “I…”
Lu Yaoyi: “I’m scared… can you stay and keep me company…”
Her voice was so frail that it made people feel sorry for her and soften their hearts.
“I won’t leave,” Jiang Youli’s heart softened. “I’ll stay here with you.”
She hadn’t planned on leaving anyway. Lu Meishan and Guan Luyu weren’t home. Lu Meishan had asked her to take good care of Lu Yaoyi, and she had to take responsibility.
“Then…” Lu Yaoyi bit her lip lightly. “Can you stay with me forever?”
Jiang Youli walked over and sat on the edge of the bed. “Mhm, go to sleep.”
Lu Yaoyi suddenly reached out her right hand to Jiang Youli. “Give me your left hand.”
Jiang Youli: “Why?”
Lu Yaoyi: “Just… just give it to me…”
Jiang Youli: “…”
So Lu Yaoyi, that narcissistic freak, could act spoiled when she was sick?
She was… kinda cute…
But her current sitting position made it difficult to extend her left hand. So she stood up, faced Lu Yaoyi, bent down, and placed her left hand in Lu Yaoyi’s palm. “Why do you want my hand?”
The words had just left her mouth when
Lu Yaoyi held Jiang Youli’s left hand, lacing her fingers with Jiang Youli’s.
Jiang Youli froze.
Lu Yaoyi turned sideways and pressed the back of Jiang Youli’s hand against her face.
She then looked into Jiang Youli’s eyes and said, “I’m scared you’ll run away, so I’m holding on to you tightly.”
Jiang Youli: “…”
Fine, she would let it go since Lu Yaoyi was sick.
She wouldn’t bicker with Lu Yaoyi.
She felt the heat from Lu Yaoyi’s face radiating from the back of her hand.
Her voice was uncharacteristically gentle.
“I won’t run away. Just go to sleep.”
Only then did Lu Yaoyi close her eyes in satisfaction.
Jiang Youli leaned over and looked at Lu Yaoyi.
Her left hand was held by Lu Yaoyi, so she couldn’t move it. She had no choice but to straighten her left arm and slowly cross her legs to sit on the carpet by the bed. She watched Lu Yaoyi, who was in a deep sleep, and couldn’t help but once again sigh that Lu Yaoyi was truly captivating when she was sleeping.
She suddenly remembered something.
She took her phone out of her jacket and checked the time.
It was almost 1:30 a.m. She had been hanging out with her friends for so long that now that it was quiet, she was tired and wanted to sleep.
But, she still had to stay up and check Lu Yaoyi’s temperature.
To prevent herself from oversleeping and missing the time to check Lu Yaoyi’s temperature again in an hour, she specifically set an alarm on her phone for an hour later. If Lu Yaoyi’s fever didn’t go down in an hour, but instead went up, then she would have to take Lu Yaoyi to the hospital.
Time passed by, second by second.
Jiang Youli finally fell into a deep sleep, leaning over the bed.
The large room was so quiet that only breathing could be heard.
She didn’t know how much time had passed.
Jiang Youli was suddenly woken up by her phone alarm. She opened her eyes, quickly turned off the alarm, and checked the time. It was almost 2:30 a.m.
Lu Yaoyi was also woken up.
She opened her sleepy eyes and murmured softly, “Jiang Youli…”
Jiang Youli slowly pulled her left hand out of Lu Yaoyi’s palm. She then took out the thermometer from the medicine cabinet. “I’ll take your temperature again.”
Lu Yaoyi curled her fingers. “Okay…”
Jiang Youli placed the thermometer on Lu Yaoyi’s forehead to take her temperature. The thermometer showed 38°C. She felt as if a heavy weight had been lifted from her chest and breathed a sigh of relief. She then put the thermometer back in the medicine cabinet. “Your temperature has gone down. You can rest now.”
She then added, “You should be much better by the time you wake up tomorrow.”
Lu Yaoyi: “Mhm…”
She once again reached out her right hand to Jiang Youli.
Jiang Youli: “…”
Lu Yaoyi was a patient with a fever right now.
What else could she do but let Lu Yaoyi push her luck?
She sighed helplessly, then sat on the carpet and placed her left hand in Lu Yaoyi’s right palm. “I won’t leave. I’ll sit here and watch over you tonight.”
