Chapter 37
Qin Qin felt incredibly annoyed after returning to the new villa.
So, during the days Liang Manqing was unreachable, she was with her ‘white moonlight’.
Now that the white moonlight is back, does she want the substitute to step down?
Qin Qin took out the check-up results from her bag. Although she was mentally prepared, she still couldn’t quite believe it when the doctor told her she was pregnant.
She felt a little happy, a little incredulous.
If she didn’t have a child, she could continue as a dispensable substitute, but now she couldn’t. Even for the sake of the child, she absolutely couldn’t leave.
After her work was done, Qin Qin was leaving the set when she happened to see Liang Manqing walking over from the coffee shop across the street.
Qin Qin ignored her, getting straight into Qian Haiye’s car: “Take me home.”
Qian Haiye hesitated: “CEO Liang is here.”
Qin Qin had naturally seen her. She also nearly forgot that Qian Haiye worked for Liang Manqing.
Qin Qin didn’t want to make things difficult for Qian Haiye. She rolled down the window halfway and said coldly: “Why did you come?”
Liang Manqing reached out, intending to open the car door, but it was locked from the inside. She had to stand by the window, looking at Qin Qin: “I called you so many times, but you didn’t answer. I came to check on you.”
Qin Qin hummed: “Now that you’ve checked, you can go back. I’m tired and need to rest.”
Liang Manqing had never seen Qin Qin so cold. No, she hadn’t seen Qin Qin cold for a long time. Aside from their very first meeting, when Qin Qin was like a hedgehog with all its quills raised, she had always been a clingy Omega. The sudden shift in attitude made Liang Manqing uncomfortable.
Or was Qin Qin angry because she hadn’t answered her calls two days ago?
Liang Manqing’s long palm stopped the car window from rolling up. She quickly explained: “I was hospitalized two days ago, and my phone was off, which is why I missed your calls. Please don’t be angry.”
Qin Qin looked down at Liang Manqing’s hand, which was moving up with the window. If she was a moment too slow, her hand would be caught.
Qin Qin pulled her hand away: “I wasn’t angry about that.”
She found it ridiculous. Qin Qin had thought Liang Manqing came to explain the matter of the other woman, but she hadn’t.
Qin Qin felt like there was a huge stone lodged in her chest, immovable. She could only suffer in silence.
Liang Manqing watched the car tail lights disappear in the distance, suddenly feeling that Qin Qin was drifting further and further away from her.
Or had Qin Qin already blackened? Was her hatred building up little by little?
But Liang Manqing still didn’t understand why.
Would she really blacken just because I didn’t answer her calls?
He Yi got out of a car parked nearby and complained: “Did you invite me just to drink coffee?”
Liang Manqing didn’t speak.
He Yi crossed her arms: “You just got discharged, and you’re drinking coffee? Do you want to be hospitalized again?”
Liang Manqing covered her aching stomach. While waiting for He Yi, she had watched Qin Qin film and drank two cups of coffee.
She had meant it to keep her awake, but it had only intensified her stomach pain.
He Yi stepped forward and supported Liang Manqing: “Don’t tell me I was right. I’m taking you to the hospital.”
Liang Manqing was admitted to the hospital again. The doctor shook his head at her: “Your stomach cannot handle stimulating drinks like coffee anymore. Do you not listen to what the doctor tells you?”
Liang Manqing’s lips were pale, and she felt weak: “I know I was wrong.”
He Yi poured her a cup of hot water: “I can’t believe you.”
Liang Manqing looked at He Yi: “I’m sorry. I didn’t realize I was so weak.”
He Yi chuckled: “When do you ever admit you’re weak? But don’t think you can get out of treating me, I remember everything.”
Liang Manqing closed her eyes, then opened them, signaling she understood.
“Alright, you rest first. I’m going out and will be back later.” He Yi said, picking up her bag and leaving.
However, soon after, the long-absent Xia Jun and Lin Mian arrived.
The ward was a double room. Lin Mian had been admitted to Liang Manqing’s room.
Xia Jun entered and was surprised to see Liang Manqing: “Liang Manqing, what happened to you?”
Liang Manqing opened her eyes at the sound. Seeing Xia Jun and then Lin Mian, she was also very surprised: “You two?”
Xia Jun told Liang Manqing everything that had happened these past few days.
Xia Jun’s plan to continually harm herself to awaken Lin Mian had been highly successful.
In a single day, Lin Mian’s consciousness held sway for one-third of the time.
Perhaps, the possessor would be driven out soon.
Liang Manqing frowned as she listened, her gaze falling on the faint scars beneath Xia Jun’s long sleeves. A pang of pain spread through her.
“Xia Jun, would Lin Mian agree to you hurting yourself like this?”
Liang Manqing couldn’t bear to see Xia Jun using such an extreme method to awaken Lin Mian.
Xia Jun hid her scars and smiled: “As long as Lin Mian can wake up. Besides, these injuries don’t hurt much and will heal soon.”
Although Xia Jun was covered in scars, for some reason, Liang Manqing saw a long-lost expression of hopeful relief on her face.
If Liang Manqing tried to stop Xia Jun, Xia Jun would surely refuse.
Liang Manqing looked at Lin Mian: “Who is she right now?”
Before Xia Jun could answer, Lin Mian smiled gently.
Liang Manqing knew. She is Lin Mian. The possessor would not have such a warm smile.
“But Lin Mian’s consciousness can only last for eight hours. I’m still working on it,” Xia Jun stroked Lin Mian’s hair and introduced Liang Manqing to her.
Lin Mian nodded slightly: “I know her. I met her back in that town.”
Liang Manqing’s expression relaxed: “Hello, Miss Lin.”
Lin Mian: “Call me Lin Mian. You are Xia Jun’s friend, so you are my friend too.”
In this moment, Liang Manqing felt a warmth in her heart. With Xia Jun’s dedication to awakening, healing, and accompanying her, the ending of this book was being rewritten.
Lin Mian would have a good ending.
What about Qin Qin’s ending?
Liang Manqing’s eyes flickered. When she completed her mission and returned to her original world, would Qin Qin be left alone again?
Issues she had never considered before now flooded her mind. All sorts of assumptions and answers were anticipated, but ultimately, she couldn’t find a satisfactory conclusion.
Liang Manqing sighed softly. Her phone suddenly rang.
The urgent voice of the new villa’s housekeeper came through the phone: “CEO Liang, Miss Qin fell down in the bathroom.”
Liang Manqing’s breath hitched: “I’m coming right away.”
Hanging up, Liang Manqing pulled out the IV needle. Red blood beaded from the puncture site. After quickly stopping the bleeding, she got out of bed and ran out.
Xia Jun, who had returned with medicine, saw Liang Manqing’s frantic figure and shouted: “Where are you going?”
Liang Manqing ran faster and faster. She hailed a taxi on the street, gave the address of the new villa, and the driver sped away.
All the way, Liang Manqing realized she should have told the housekeeper to take Qin Qin to the hospital, but in her haste, she had forgotten everything.
However, when she called again, not a single call went through.
Qin Qin’s phone also rang a few times and then was disconnected immediately.
Liang Manqing felt strange, but she didn’t have time to think. She got out of the taxi and hurried toward the new villa.
The housekeeper greeted her at the main gate. When she reached the living room, everyone looked very nervous.
Liang Manqing walked and asked the housekeeper: “Did you call the family doctor?”
The housekeeper stammered, unsure how to answer. He only shook his head slightly. Passing the landline, Liang Manqing saw the phone line had been cut. No wonder I couldn’t get through just now.
“What happened to the phone line?” Liang Manqing asked. Everyone fell silent again.
“Miss Qin cut it,” the housekeeper had to reply reluctantly: “You should go up and see her.”
“Qin Qin?” Liang Manqing looked up toward Qin Qin’s room, her steps rushing up the stairs.
The third floor was quiet. The hallway lights were off.
Liang Manqing reached out and turned on the light. She carefully knocked on the door: “Qin Qin, I’m here. The housekeeper said you fell and hurt your leg. I’ve come to check.”
Given their unpleasant conversation earlier, Liang Manqing thought Qin Qin might not want to see her. She knocked twice with no response. She tried to open the door, but found it was locked from the inside.
Liang Manqing started to panic. Just as she was about to ask the housekeeper for the spare key, the door opened from the inside. A fair hand reached out, grabbed her collar, and pulled her in.
In a haze, Liang Manqing’s back hit the cool door. The familiar scent surrounded her nose.
Her vision was dark. Liang Manqing couldn’t see clearly: “Why aren’t the lights on?”
In the darkness, the sense of touch was sharper. Liang Manqing felt Qin Qin tightly pinch her chin. It hurt a little, but she didn’t dodge, letting Qin Qin hold her.
Qin Qin hooked her chin and sneered: “You came quickly.”
That sentence alone made Liang Manqing guess that the housekeeper saying Qin Qin had hurt her leg was a lie.
Liang Manqing reached out and grasped Qin Qin’s slender wrist: “I’m glad you’re okay. What do you need me for?”
“What, I can’t look for you just because I’m fine?” Qin Qin found it amusing: “Or do you have someone else important you need to see?”
“I don’t… Mmm…” Liang Manqing opened her mouth slightly to defend herself, but a cold piece of ice was shoved into her mouth.
The ice made her tongue numb. Liang Manqing spoke muffled words, asking uncertainly: “Are you still Qin Qin?”
She actually wanted to ask if Qin Qin had blackened.
“You don’t recognize me after only two days without contact?”
A warm finger hooked the ice out of Liang Manqing’s mouth. Qin Qin feigned an accident, dropping the ice cube down Liang Manqing’s slightly open collar.
“Hiss…” The ice slid down her collar. Although the room had heating, Liang Manqing shivered from the cold. Her voice trembled.
Liang Manqing didn’t know what Qin Qin was planning. She just kept taking the ice out and deliberately dropping it back in, seeming to torture her.
Liang Manqing didn’t dare to move, afraid that not cooperating would upset Qin Qin.
After the ice melted, Qin Qin took another piece. This time, she finally asked: “Who is that woman at the hospital?”
But before Liang Manqing could answer, the ice cube slid across her firm lower abdomen, dripping melted water.
Liang Manqing bit her pearly teeth. Her pale lips turned moist and red from her own biting: “She is my… she is my…”
“Wait.” Qin Qin held the ice cube with her fingers, sliding it slowly: “Let me guess.”
Liang Manqing’s mind was blank. She couldn’t think. All her senses were focused on the randomly moving ice cube.
“You guess…”
In the darkness, Liang Manqing felt her clothes being removed one by one. The area the ice cube covered grew larger.
Liang Manqing felt like she was covered in ice, cold all over.
Finally, Liang Manqing was pushed onto the sofa. Qin Qin squatted by the sofa, biting on the ice cube.
Liang Manqing didn’t know what happened, but in that final moment, she realized she wasn’t covered in ice.
She was enclosing the ice.
Liang Manqing flexed her arches as the icy stimulation spread through all her limbs.
