Chapter 19

After receiving Yan Si’s definite answer, Yin Lingzhu turned the toes that had been pointing outward toward her original bedroom instead.

Yin Lingzhu did not understand Yan Si’s intentions. Why was she so insistent on making her stay?

But that did not stop Yin Lingzhu from staying here for one night for the sake of getting the divorce certificate.

She comforted herself. Sleeping was sleeping, no matter where she slept.

Once Yin Lingzhu thought of it that way, the psychological pressure became much lighter.

When she pushed open the bedroom door, it was pitch-black inside. Only a little light shone in, and Yin Lingzhu’s breath caught.

Too dark.

Yin Lingzhu moved slightly farther away. Even though the light switch was right beside the door, she still did not dare reach out and touch it.

Her gaze shifted from the bedroom to Yan Si. Yan Si was standing in the living room, watching her the entire time.

Would it be bad to ask Yan Si to help turn on the light?

Forcing down her fear, she pressed the switch with the fastest speed possible, then immediately pulled her hand back.

The tiny click of the switch sounded in the bedroom. Before Yin Lingzhu could even feel happy, she discovered a serious problem.

She had pressed the switch, but the light did not come on.

At that moment, Yan Si spoke. “The bedroom light seems to be broken.”

“Why didn’t you have someone fix it?” Because of her fear, Yin Lingzhu’s tone was very heavy.

Yan Si looked at her. “I didn’t know the light was broken.”

Yin Lingzhu stared at Yan Si in front of her and moved a little farther from that dark, cave-like doorway.

“Do you have a desk lamp?” Yin Lingzhu asked.

Back when she lived here, because she was afraid of the dark, she had placed a desk lamp on the bedside table and had also prepared a small flashlight with a long battery life.

But all of those things had been thrown away by her.

Other than her documents, she had taken nothing with her when she left.

Yan Si thought of her own bedside table, where a desk lamp was sitting, but she shook her head. “No.”

Hearing Yan Si’s answer, Yin Lingzhu helplessly looked at the flashlight on her phone.

Her phone did not have much battery either. It was not as if she could keep the flashlight on all night while connected to a data cable.

In the end, Yin Lingzhu finally made up her mind. “I’ll sleep in the living room tonight.”

Yan Si had not expected Yin Lingzhu to say that, and froze for a moment. “You can sleep in my bedroom.”

This time, the person who had not expected it was Yin Lingzhu. It took her a long while to find her thoughts again.

“Thank you. I’ll sleep in the living room.” Yin Lingzhu spoke.

“If you sleep in the living room, you’ll catch a cold.” When Yan Si heard Yin Lingzhu refuse, she said this anxiously.

“It’s fine. If I catch a cold, then I catch a cold. Aren’t you the one who insisted I stay?” Yin Lingzhu spoke in an even t[bailiantales.com]one, looking as if she did not care.

Hearing this, Yan Si’s eyes dimmed slightly. Then, as if she had thought of something, they grew brighter.

“Then go wash up first. There are disposable items in the bathroom. I’ll tidy up the living room.” Yan Si spoke gently to Yin Lingzhu, the smile at the corners of her eyes soft and winding.

Noticing Yan Si’s smile, Yin Lingzhu froze again for a while.

This was the first time Yan Si had smiled at her. Although Yan Si had come looking for her many times recently, every time, Yan Si had worn a cold face.

Yin Lingzhu stared at Yan Si for a while before finally realizing what she was doing. She ran messily toward the bathroom, carrying an air of fleeing in defeat.

Looking at Yin Lingzhu like this, the smile at the corners of Yan Si’s mouth deepened even more.

Once Yin Lingzhu reached the bathroom, she locked the door behind her. She cupped some water in her hands and splashed it onto her face.

She really must be crazy. Just now, when she saw Yan Si smile, she actually felt an impulse to ignore everything and be with Yan Si.

Yin Lingzhu lowered her eyes. Water droplets hung from her thick lashes, hiding the emotions in her gaze.

She looked at the disposable toothbrush, towel, and other items placed there, and could not help sighing. It seemed Yan Si had been determined to make her stay.

While Yin Lingzhu was busy in the bathroom, Yan Si stood outside, staring at the sofa and falling into a difficult situation.

After hesitating for a long time, she made up her mind, picked up the cup on the table, and did something she would never have done before.

Yin Lingzhu was blow-drying her half-dry hair when a sound loud enough to cover the hair dryer crashed straight into her eardrums.

She put down the hair dryer and hurried to check.

When she opened the door, she saw obvious water stains on the sofa, as well as glass shards gleaming with light.

Glass shards?

“Why are there glass shards on the sofa?” Yin Lingzhu could not help exclaiming.

Yan Si’s voice carried grievance. “I wanted to drink water just now, but the water spilled, and the cup broke too.”

Yan Si stood beside the sofa completely at a loss, like a child who had done something wrong.

Yin Lingzhu still did not understand. “Why would the glass shards end up on the sofa?”

The sofa was fifty or sixty centimeters above the ground. It was impossible for them to splash up there. Even if some pieces flew up, there should only be a little.

Yin Lingzhu also saw that there were hardly any shards on the floor. Most of them were on the sofa.

It could not have been broken on the sofa, could it?

“There’s a dumbbell on the sofa.” Yan Si seemed to see what Yin Lingzhu was thinking and said this.

Only then did Yin Lingzhu discover that there really was a dumbbell on the sofa.

Its color was very similar to the sofa’s color, so one would not notice it without looking carefully.

Why would someone have such a uniquely colored dumbbell and even put it on the sofa?

But now was not the time to get tangled up in that.

“Then where am I sleeping tonight?” Yin Lingzhu looked in Yan Si’s direction.

Yan Si still looked like a child who had made a mistake, [bailiantales.com]not daring to lift her head. “You can sleep in my room.”

Hearing her answer, Yin Lingzhu raised an eyebrow and asked in return, “Then where will you sleep? With me?”

But what Yin Lingzhu had not expected was that Yan Si actually nodded.

Yin Lingzhu truly could not understand Yan Si now. Then again, perhaps she had never understood her before.

“Suit yourself.” She dropped this sentence, then went to dry her still-wet hair.

Yan Si already understood what Yin Lingzhu meant. She had agreed.

Yan Si quickly went to the bedroom and hurriedly hid the desk lamp under the bed.

When Yin Lingzhu entered Yan Si’s bedroom, Yan Si had only just found another blanket and spread it out.

“You rest first. I’ll go wash up.” Seeing Yin Lingzhu at the door, Yan Si immediately got up and said this to her.

Yan Si brushed past Yin Lingzhu, bringing with her a wave of fragrance.

It was the scent of roses.

The scent of Yan Si’s pheromones.

Yin Lingzhu shook her head, scattering that scent from her nose.

Her gland was already damaged now. How could she possibly smell someone else’s pheromones?

She had seen it in the bathroom just now. The body wash Yan Si used was rose-scented. It was probably that scent.

There were now two blankets on the bed. Yin Lingzhu chose the one that had just been taken out.

She stood beside the bed and mentally divided the bed into two halves.

In the bathroom, Yan Si looked at herself in the mirror. The face reflected inside was flushed red, making her look extremely excited.

There was still moisture lingering in the air. Yan Si knew this was left from when Yin Lingzhu had showered just now.

Yan Si breathed in the scent in the air.

There was nothing.

In the bedroom, Yin Lingzhu tossed and turned, unable to sleep. Irritated, she could only sit up halfway on the bed.

Her gaze swept across Yan Si’s bedroom.

In the past, when she came here, she had not dared look around casually, because she had been afraid it would make Yan Si unhappy.

Now, she no longer had that concern. Her eyes swept over each item one by one.

Yan Si’s bedroom was different from what she had imagined. She had thought that someone like Yan Si would have a cold, minimalist bedroom style.

She looked at the little cat ornament on the bedside table. This kind of cute figurine was completely something she could not imagine Yan Si buying.

There was also the rug printed with a little white bear, and the anti-slip covers fitted onto the table legs, shaped like little dogs.

Yin Lingzhu thought back to the times when she had come to Yan Si’s bedroom before. Had these things been here then?

The answer was: she did not know.

Back then, Yin Lingzhu had been far too cautious with Yan Si. Even when she came here, she did not dare let her eyes wander. And Yan Si always turned off the lights every time, so Yin Lingzhu had even less chance to look.

Yin Lingzhu’s gaze landed on the bedside table. There was a slip of paper on it, and the handwriting was extremely familiar to her.

She had written it.

[May your heart be like mine, and surely this longing will not be betrayed.]

[I like Yan Si so much.]

This was something she had written before. During the days when she waited for Yan Si, she had carefully watched every single drama and movie Yan Si had acted in.

The first line came from a historical drama, where Yan Si had played a noble young lady and said it to the person she loved.

The second line was Yin Lingzhu’s own feelings.

At that time, Yin Lingzhu had copied down that sentence, fantasizing that Yan Si might like her, even just a little.

The white paper had already yellowed a little, and its edges had also become fuzzy. One look was enough to know that someone had rubbed it many times.

Yin Lingzhu had originally wanted to take that slip of paper, but then she stopped her outstretched hand.

No matter what reason Yan Si had for keeping this note, it had nothing to do with her anymore.

Yet Yin Lingzhu’s gaze still did not move away from the note.

Her feelings for Yan Si were not entirely because of love at first sight.

Yin Lingzhu began thinking of her previous world, but before she could sink into her memories, she was interrupted.

Yan Si came in.

Yin Lingzhu glanced at Yan Si, said nothing, and burrowed into her blanket.

Seeing Yin Lingzhu like this, Yan Si did not speak either. She walked to the other side, lifted the empty blanket, and lay down.

Yin Lingzhu had her back to that side. Although she could not see, she could hear the sound of Yan Si’s clothes rubbing against the sheets and could smell the scent on Yan Si’s body.

It was still the scent of roses.

Did Yan Si like roses that much?

Yin Lingzhu wanted to bury her head in the blanket so she would not be disturbed by Yan Si, but doing that would be too strange.

Yin Lingzhu was not sleepy at all, so she silently counted sheep in her heart.

As she counted, she kept feeling that the rose scent from Yan Si’s body was getting closer and closer to her.

When Yin Lingzhu counted to twenty sheep, the rose scent at the tip of her nose had become so rich it could not be ignored.

She was lying on her side, so she changed position and made herself lie flat instead.

Then she discovered that Yan Si’s face was only ten centimeters away from her own, almost close enough to touch.

Yan Si had practically squeezed into her blanket.

No wonder Yin Lingzhu could smell such a heavy rose scent.

Yin Lingzhu shot upright all at once, and her movement woke Yan Si.

Yan Si frowned and opened her eyes, her still-drowsy gaze looking at Yin Lingzhu.

“Why are you so close to me?” Yin Lingzhu asked in confusion.

The bed was two meters by two meters, yet with the two of them sleeping there, they only occupied half of it.

“Maybe after I fell asleep, I uncontrollably moved closer to you.” Yan Si rubbed her eyes and explained.

“Then now that you’re awake, go back to your original spot,” Yin Lingzhu said, while also tucking her own blanket tightly around herself.

“Oh, oh.” Yan Si nodded obediently, her soft hair rubbing against her pillow.

Watching Yan Si retreat to the other side, Yin Lingzhu felt that the Yan Si who had just woken up was still very obedient.
