After Transmigrating Into An Eighteenth-Tier Alpha, I Married The Best Actress - Chapter 9
The sky gradually darkened. Yin Lingzhu and Ji Jingrong brought Tiantian to the hospital for a checkup.
“You can relax now. There’s nothing wrong with Tiantian’s body. The doctor said you’ve been raising it very well.”
Sitting in the passenger seat, Yin Lingzhu heard Ji Jingrong say this to her.
She lowered her gaze to Tiantian inside the cat carrier.
Tiantian’s eyes were half-closed, its two front legs crossed, its chin resting on them. It looked utterly listless.
Noticing its state, unease rose in Yin Lingzhu’s heart. She answered Ji Jingrong’s words, “Mm. Tiantian’s body is great.”
“Let’s hurry back.” Yin Lingzhu placed the cat carrier on her lap.
Feeling Tiantian’s weight, Yin Lingzhu still could not set her mind at ease. She kept feeling that something was going to happen tonight.
Ji Jingrong noticed Yin Lingzhu’s nervousness. Now that the checkup was over, although she did not know what Yin Lingzhu was still worried about, she still spoke to comfort her.
Listening to Ji Jingrong’s words, the unease in Yin Lingzhu’s heart gradually disappeared.
At the intersection, the red light lit up.
Ji Jingrong’s car slowly lowered its speed. Just as the car was about to stop, another car suddenly appeared from a different road.
That car did not slow down and crashed straight toward them.
Ji Jingrong was the first to notice that car. Her own car was currently moving at a low speed, and even though she yanked the steering wheel hard, there was still no way to avoid it.
The two cars collided just like that, producing a violent crash.
Fortunately, Ji Jingrong reacted quickly. There were some dents on the outside of the car, but the interior was intact. She and Yin Lingzhu felt the impact, but neither was injured.
Just as the two of them relaxed, an extremely mournful cat cry suddenly rang out.
When Yin Lingzhu saw the car coming toward her side, she had tightly protected the cat carrier in her arms.
Hearing the sound, she straightened up and saw that Tiantian had shrunk into the innermost part of the carrier, its entire body curled up.
Yin Lingzhu could no longer care about anything else and opened the cat carrier.
The carrier she had bought was very large. First, it was to prevent Tiantian from getting nervous in a cramped space, and second, it made it convenient for Tiantian to go in and out.
Because of that, Yin Lingzhu could easily reach her hand inside.
She carefully placed her hand on Tiantian and felt the little cat trembling violently.
Yin Lingzhu’s heart suddenly contracted. The sensation beneath her hand was far too intense.
She did not dare touch it anymore and pulled her hand back.
“Don’t worry. We’re not too far from the hospital. If we go back now, it won’t take long.”
Seeing Yin Lingzhu’s deathly pale face, Ji Jingrong hurriedly turned the car around and rushed back toward the hospital.
The emergency light in the hospital room lit up.
Outside the room, Yin Lingzhu clasped her hands together and devoutly prayed to heaven, hoping Tiantian would be safe.
No one knew how long she waited before the door opened.
The doctor came out from inside and said to Yin Lingzhu, “I’m sorry.”
The moment Yin Lingzhu heard those two words, she felt as if all the strength had been drained from her body, and she collapsed against Ji Jingrong.
“Why?” Her mind was completely blank. She did not know how to vent the emotions in her heart.
Ji Jingrong opened her lips, then closed them again. Silently, she helped Yin Lingzhu over to a seat, gently patting her back in wordless comfort.
Feeling the movement on her back, Yin Lingzhu’s tears burst out like a breached dam.
Yin Lingzhu’s broken sobs echoed through the quiet corridor.
“Thank you.” After Yin Lingzhu’s emotions calmed slightly, she lifted her head and saw that a large patch of Ji Jingrong’s shoulder was wet.
She knew those were her own tears.
“When we get back to the apartment, give me your clothes. I’ll wash them for you,” Yin Lingzhu said to Ji Jingrong.
Seeing that Yin Lingzhu’s emotions had stabilized, Ji Jingrong also let out a breath of relief. She knew how important this cat was to Yin Lingzhu.
As for Yin Lingzhu saying she would wash her clothes, Ji Jingrong nodded, then pulled a photo from her album.
“Do you want her to compensate you?” Ji Jingrong handed her phone to Yin Lingzhu.
It was a photo of the scene she had hurriedly taken in the chaos. Although it was a little blurry, the license plate was clear, and even the person inside the car could vaguely be seen.
Naturally, there was hatred in Yin Lingzhu’s heart. She took the phone and carefully looked at the person in the photo.
After seeing clearly, an impossible person surfaced in her mind.
It was the person she longed for day and night.
Even though Yin Lingzhu wanted to deny it in her heart, this figure had appeared in her dreams countless times. This person was Yan Si.
Trembling, she shoved the phone back into Ji Jingrong’s hand. “No need. She might not have done it on purpose.”
Yin Lingzhu drew her coat tighter around herself, feeling a chill rise from the bottom of her heart.
She said to Ji Jingrong, “Let’s go back. It’s a little cold in the hospital.”
Yin Lingzhu brought Tiantian and the death certificate back home.
She set down the clothes she was holding for Ji Jingrong, then stroked Tiantian’s stiff body, countless thoughts flying through her mind.
The thing Yan Si had given her had been taken back by Yan Si again in another form.
The day Yan Si brought Tiantian back, she had truly been very happy. She had thought Yan Si had her in her heart.
Otherwise, why would she give her a little cat?
She often stroked Tiantian’s head and said, “I love your other owner so much.”
After hearing this, Tiantian would also rub against her face affectionately, purring in its throat.
Whenever she was alone in the room missing Yan Si, Tiantian would come over too, lying beside her and quietly keeping her company.
Yin Lingzhu recalled every little moment, and another wave of sour grief rose in her heart.
The lights in the apartment were very bright, but Yin Lingzhu felt as if she were standing in the dark, unable to find even a trace of light.
Slowly, she felt a stabbing pain come from the back of her neck, like needles pricking her.
Yin Lingzhu remembered that after Yan Si came last time, the same situation had appeared the next day.
Yin Lingzhu had gone to ask You Xiaoxiao.
You Xiaoxiao said this was an aftereffect of her secondary differentiation and warned her not to let her emotions fluctuate too much.
You Xiaoxiao had also prescribed medicine for Yin Lingzhu and told her to take it on time. If gland pain appeared again, she had to remember to look for her.
Yin Lingzhu covered the back of her neck, an unclear laugh escaping her mouth.
The next day, Yin Lingzhu went to the hospital.
At the door of You Xiaoxiao’s consultation room, Yin Lingzhu had just been about to go in when she heard voices speaking.
She lowered the hand she had raised to knock and planned to wait until the conversation inside ended before entering.
“You got into a car accident yesterday.” Yin Lingzhu had not walked far before she heard You Xiaoxiao’s voice.
Yin Lingzhu stopped in her tracks.
“Mm. I was in a hurry to see Si Xin, so I didn’t pay attention.” This was Yan Si’s voice.
“Tsk, tsk. How much did you compensate them?” This was You Xiaoxiao’s voice.
“I didn’t.” Yan Si paused. “I think the person I hit was Yin Lingzhu, and it seems something happened to her cat.”
You Xiaoxiao said with confusion, “Yin Lingzhu even keeps a cat?”
“The cat she keeps wouldn’t happen to be that one, would it? The one you originally wanted to give Si Xin.” You Xiaoxiao’s tone rose.
“Yes. Si Xin didn’t want that cat. She disliked that it was a fold-eared cat,” Yan Si said.
When Yin Lingzhu heard this, her mind could no longer turn.
Si Xin? It was originally meant for Si Xin? She disliked that it was fold-eared?
Yin Lingzhu discovered that she seemed to have lost the ability to think. She was unwilling to consider what this meant. She was running away.
Yan Si’s few casual sentences smashed apart all of Yin Lingzhu’s joy and delight.
“I think Yin Lingzhu likes you quite a lot, yet you treat her like this.”
“You kept Si Xin for more than half a year. And other than when she marks you, you haven’t gone to Yin Lingzhu’s place again, have you? I’ve seen that you’ve been sleeping at Si Xin’s house.”
You Xiaoxiao teased Yan Si.
“Mm. I think Yin Lingzhu is dirty, so I don’t like going there. Besides, I don’t really like Alphas.” Yan Si’s disgust was very obvious.
Yin Lingzhu felt as if she had been struck by lightning. She could not even remain standing. She sank weakly into a chair, and the back of her neck hurt more and more.
But aside from the pain in her body, she felt that her heart seemed to hurt even more.
No one had told her that loving someone who did not like you back would make your heart hurt this much, as if it were being cut by a knife.
This suffocating feeling seemed as if it would drown Yin Lingzhu in the very next second.
The back of her neck seemed to hurt more and more. This pain seemed about to spread through her whole body, and as Yin Lingzhu felt the changes in her body, she actually felt happiness.
Then how about this? If I die here, Yan Si will still remember me.
With that thought, Yin Lingzhu was wrapped in pain and fainted.
When she woke up again, she was lying on a hospital bed, and You Xiaoxiao stood in front of her.
“You’re not suited for large emotional fluctuations right now.” Seeing that she had woken up, You Xiaoxiao adjusted the IV drip in her hand and spoke to her.
Yin Lingzhu looked around the entire hospital room. Aside from You Xiaoxiao, there was no one else.
She had fainted at the entrance to You Xiaoxiao’s consultation room, while Yan Si had been inside the consultation room.
How could Yan Si not have noticed her?
Yin Lingzhu’s lips were pale. She glanced at the needle on the back of her hand. “Once this IV is finished, I want to go home.”
The person on the hospital bed had no color in her entire face. Against her white skin, the blood vessels on the back of her hand appeared especially clear, and her wrist was so slender it seemed it could be snapped in a single move.
Seeing her looking like she only had half a life left, You Xiaoxiao could not help saying, “You can’t be discharged yet. Your physical condition is very dangerous.”
Yin Lingzhu did not listen to You Xiaoxiao’s words and stubbornly still wanted to go home.
Seeing how firm her attitude was, You Xiaoxiao did not say anything more. She gave her two sets of medicine, told her to take them on time, and left.
After the IV was finished, Yin Lingzhu did not stay any longer and immediately went home.
Tomorrow was her birthday. Yan Si had said she would come back.
Yan Si did not like eating food bought from outside. Yin Lingzhu had to make food for her.
Maybe Yan Si would like the food she made.
On the way home, Yin Lingzhu bought a pile of groceries.
From noon until night, she busied herself and made an entire table full of dishes.
Full of anticipation, Yin Lingzhu sat in front of the table, waiting for midnight to arrive, waiting for Yan Si to arrive.
Time slowly reached midnight. When the number jumped from 59 to 00, a message popped up on her phone.
Yin Lingzhu hurriedly picked up her phone and looked. It was a birthday blessing from Ji Jingrong, dense lines of text filling the whole screen.
Her gaze could not help drifting to the pinned chat. There was not the slightest movement in Yan Si’s message box.
Perhaps Yan Si was too busy. Perhaps Yan Si had gone to sleep very early.
Yin Lingzhu avoided it once again, finding excuses for Yan Si.
She replied to Ji Jingrong’s message and was just about to put down her phone when Yan Si’s message popped up.
[I’m not coming back. Happy birthday.]
Yin Lingzhu typed out a whole pile of words, but in the end, she deleted them all and sent: [Thank you.]
The room was terrifyingly quiet. In the past, there would still have been Tiantian’s meows, but now, there was nothing.
Yin Lingzhu sat in the chair, facing a large table full of dishes all alone, and suddenly felt that she was useless.
Even though she had already studied so hard, she still did not know how to win Yan Si’s heart.
There was no tutorial anywhere that told her what to do when, after being married for a year, she had only seen her wife ten times.
Yin Lingzhu placed candles on the cake. The flames sank little by little, going out when they touched the cream.
Yin Lingzhu took out her phone and sent Ji Jingrong a message.
[Come with me for the surgery.]
