As She Wished - Chapter 9
Tao Xian glanced at Fu Jing and said again, “Why do you start smiling foolishly the moment you see Gu Qingci?”
Fu Jing was completely unaware. “Do I?”
The lights in the bar were dim, making it difficult to tell what time it was.
The time she spent waiting for her was practically calculated down to the second. She had been so uneasy and expectant, imagining everything about their meeting, nervous over whether Gu Qingci would come.
The instant she saw Gu Qingci,
an unrestrained, brilliant smile would rise on her face without her even realizing it.
Gu Qingci’s gaze flickered slightly, as though faintly carrying a smile. Her ink-black eyes looked much gentler. Under the shifting glow of the colored lights, even the steady black suit she wore did not seem so stern or difficult to approach.
For some reason, Fu Jing blurted out, “Do you believe people have past lives?”
Gu Qingci calmly looked at her for a few seconds. Very quickly, she looked away and said lightly, “Of course not.”
Fu Jing stared at her face. After a long while, she finally blinked once and spoke quickly. “Mm. Einstein also said that the idea that people continue to exist after the body is destroyed is the cowardice of the weak-minded.”
Gu Qingci did not speak again and stepped upstairs.
Fu Jing followed behind her, then muttered softly, “But Qin Zijin said Einstein believed that after a person dies, their brain waves can spend more than a hundred and fifty years reattaching to a new life. That can also count as reincarnation.”
Although she did not know whether Qin Zijin had tricked her or not.
In any case, Fu Jing suddenly especially wanted to believe it.
“Why are you following me?” Gu Qingci stopped and turned back to look at her. Suddenly, she curved her eyes and said with a smile that was not quite a smile, “I’m going to talk to Tao Xian about matters in the bar.”
Fu Jing puffed out her chest and lifted her head. “I’m also someone from the bar!”
“She’s participating too.” Tao Xian hurried over a few steps and explained, “The accounts in the bar are now managed by Fu Jing, and even the activities are being planned and operated by her friend. The turnover from the two days of events this weekend can match our usual half month. Our bar is about to rise to glory!”
She was exaggerating a little.
Fu Jing was indeed helping with the accounts, and Qin Zijin had also recommended a few capable people related to planning, so the initial promotional effect was good. But they were still very far from rising to glory.
“Aren’t you working part-time as a bartender? How did you become in charge of accounts?” Gu Qingci met Fu Jing’s eager gaze, and the corner of her mouth twitched. “What were you thinking?”
Fu Jing scratched her head. “Mm, mm? What was I thinking…”
How should she say this???
Because this old lady was bored and willing to. No, that attitude was no good.
Because I wanted to give you a little career crisis? That seemed even worse.
Fu Jing suddenly had an idea. She clenched her fist and struck her palm, then said seriously and solemnly, “Before acquiring the bar, I’m conducting as much comprehensive investigation into its operational conditions as possible.”
Gu Qingci: “…?”
She could not help looking at Tao Xian.
Tao Xian slowly moved behind Fu Jing, raised a finger to point at her own temple, and shrugged, meaning: The thoughts of a genius are not something I can understand.
“…”
In the end, Fu Jing followed them and sat in the private room for the meeting.
Only then did she discover that Gu Qingci was not actually that proactive about work either. She drank the wine Tao Xian brought her and casually flipped through the bar’s business documents. It was merely a casual chat.
Fu Jing sat upright and listened seriously.
Many of the things they discussed were related to financial figures. In the past, Gu Qingci would speak a little and give Tao Xian some guidance, while Tao Xian listened one-sidedly.
Now that Fu Jing had joined in, it became Tao Xian one-sidedly listening to these two people talk, and from time to time, words she completely did not understand would appear. The further along they went, the more content Tao Xian could not understand.
Tao Xian furrowed her brows, her face full of confusion. In a daze, she felt as if she were sitting in a mountain temple, listening to two great monks speak in riddles. The only difference was that what she could not understand was mysterious mathematics, not cryptic words with hidden meanings.
“…”
—
It was not until it was getting late
that Tao Xian went downstairs to check on closing, and Gu Qingci also got up to leave.
Fu Jing was like a half-grown little puppy, enthusiastic and clingy. Reluctant to part, she followed Gu Qingci step by step. “Let me walk you out.”
“No need.” Gu Qingci suddenly paused. Seeing that the rain outside was still pouring heavily, she turned to Fu Jing and said, “Get your things. I’ll drive you to the downstairs of your home.”
“Okay!”
Fu Jing’s expression lit up, and she quickly ran to the staff changing room to get her bag. She jogged back over, but because she was too excited, and because the surrounding light was dim and the floor was slippery, she tripped over the step by the bar counter.
This was the second time she had tripped here.
Fu Jing waved both hands through the air, trying to steady herself. She staggered forward a few steps, then suddenly fell onto Gu Qingci.
She could not help hugging her tightly.
Finally, she managed to stand firm.
And so, it became a posture where she was embracing Gu Qingci from behind.
“…”
The surroundings fell silent. All the eyewitnesses felt that Fu Jing had done it on purpose.
Even Fu Jing herself suspected that deep in her subconscious…
She wanted to immediately let go and apologize, but the feeling of having her arms filled with softness was too wonderful. That slender waist could be held in one grasp.
The warmth from that soft, delicate body came through, making her truly reluctant to let go.
Fu Jing almost wanted to hold her like this forever.
She wondered whether it was an illusion, but Gu Qingci did not struggle in the slightest. It seemed as though she did not dislike being suddenly hugged by her either.
After a few seconds of pause,
the last bit of reason left forced Fu Jing to let go.
“I’m… I’m sorry…”
Fu Jing stepped back, lowering her burning red face. The faint, hidden fragrance around Gu Qingci’s neck seemed to still linger at the tip of her nose, and the warm, soft feeling seemed to remain in her arms. Her heart was beating too quickly, and even her face felt a little numb.
She did not dare lift her eyes to look at Gu Qingci’s expression.
She apologized repeatedly. “I didn’t see that step clearly and tripped. I’m sorry…”
Tao Xian, who was sitting not far away, was shocked enough that her glasses nearly fell. She stared without blinking at the scene before her and sighed inwardly, wow, good grief. She had originally thought Fu Jing was not that bold.
Now this was bad.
She estimated that Gu Qingci’s limited patience was truly about to be used up.
Next would either be an icy warning, or the smiling-with-a-hidden-knife act of suppressing and criticizing her until she cried. Tao Xian was not unfamiliar with it. She had seen Gu Qingci reject several pursuers who were too clingy and used this kind of trick before.
Just as Tao Xian stood up, trying to smooth things over,
and just as the confused but excited employees were about to clap—
Gu Qingci turned around, brought her five fingers together, and knocked Fu Jing on the top of the head neither lightly nor heavily.
Her expression was serious, and her tone was proper and low as she lectured, “How old are you this year? You still don’t know how to watch the steps when you walk? If I hadn’t been in front of you, would you have knocked out your front teeth?”
Fu Jing instinctively raised a hand to cover her head. “…”
Her expression was dazed. Clearly, she had not expected to be chopped on the head by a hand.
After a few seconds, she honestly shook her head and answered, “If I fell, at most I’d scrape my palms. I wouldn’t knock out my front teeth.”
The employees watching from the side kind of wanted to sigh over how unromantic Gu Qingci was, but they were also faintly afraid of her and did not dare casually join in and joke around.
They could not help turning toward Tao Xian with expressions ready to watch the show.
But they discovered that Tao Xian’s mouth was slightly open, and on her usually mature, charming face was a ghost-seeing astonishment. It was as if she had been greatly shocked inside.
“…”
Gu Qingci had actually not pushed Fu Jing away at once, and then neither sharpened her tongue into something cutting nor hooked her lips into a fake smile while mocking and suppressing her.
Instead, she had a worried and concerned expression like a good wife and loving mother??
May I ask who this person was right now…
“Little Fu Jing.” Tao Xian took a deep breath and stared at her from afar. After a long time, she finally said in a deep tone, “Maybe you really are that ruthless person who will make me eat orange peel.”
Fu Jing was still dazed. “Huh?”
