Senior Sister, Please Act Human! - Chapter 14
With a heavy basket strapped to her back, Xiao Yuanzhi took tiny, shuffling steps as she struggled along behind Wei Zisu.
She had no idea what the local officials were doing with themselves. The road was uneven and riddled with potholes, with loose stones scattered everywhere—and she managed to step on practically every single one.
By now, she had endured nearly twenty minutes of involuntary “foot massage.”
Her feet were about to be ruined.
That woman Wei Zisu was still walking ridiculously fast up ahead. Anyone who did not know better might have thought she was rushing off to pick a fight.
“Eldest Senior Sister, could you walk a little slower? I can barely keep up.”
Xiao Yuanzhi softened her voice, making her tone sound almost coquettish.
Wei Zisu was not like those senior and junior brothers.
She did not even stop when she heard Xiao Yuanzhi, much less slow down. Still, she did not quicken her pace either.
This was simply how fast she walked.
If Xiao Yuanzhi could keep up, she could follow.
If she could not, then too bad.
Seeing Wei Zisu ignore her, Xiao Yuanzhi began regretting everything.
She was truly exhausted.
It was also her own fault for being too young and thinking too simply.
While they were eating, Yan’er had asked whether she still planned to go down the mountain and distribute alms. After all, this had always been one of the original Xiao Yuanzhi’s habits. Every month, she would go down the mountain to give food and supplies to the poor.
Today happened to be the scheduled day.
When Xiao Yuanzhi heard this, she became extremely excited.
Of course she wanted to go!
Why wouldn’t she?
Going down the mountain sounded fun. It had to be better than staying inside the manor all day, and she could finally see what the outside world looked like.
Since they were going to distribute alms, they naturally needed to bring a great deal of supplies.
Wei Zisu also happened to be present.
With free labor standing right there, wouldn’t Xiao Yuanzhi be wasting the grudge between them if she did not properly make use of her?
And so, she immediately subjected Wei Zisu to a round of moral blackmail, forcing her to accompany Xiao Yuanzhi down the mountain to distribute alms.
Naturally, Xiao Yuanzhi won.
But who could have guessed this woman would truly be heartless enough to make Xiao Yuanzhi carry everything herself before turning around and walking down the mountain?
She had perfectly demonstrated what it meant to stand by and watch someone suffer.
Xiao Yuanzhi had tried to dig a pit for Wei Zisu, only to bury herself instead.
She was furious.
After throwing away a few unnecessary items, she chased after Wei Zisu.
Even after discarding quite a lot, the basket was still heavy.
Besides, she had already carried it for a very long distance.
The more Xiao Yuanzhi thought about it, the more irritated she became.
There was still a long way to go before they reached the foot of the mountain, and the pain beneath her feet constantly tormented her.
All these things could be purchased with money anyway.
Why was she still carrying them?
She immediately found a place to sit down, removed the basket from her back, and clearly decided she was done with the whole thing.
As Wei Zisu continued walking, she saw Xiao Yuanzhi storm past her and move ahead, looking exactly like a sulking child.
Wei Zisu glanced behind her and saw the basket abandoned beneath a tree.
Had it been someone else, and had she been in a good mood, she might have lent a hand.
But this was Xiao Yuanzhi’s problem.
What did it have to do with her?
Xiao Yuanzhi should not imagine that doing this would make Wei Zisu clean up her mess.
After walking for some time, they finally reached the foot of the mountain.
The moment they entered the marketplace, Xiao Yuanzhi was completely captivated.
She reacted exactly like a rabbit that had just been released from its cage.
She looked here, then there, occasionally letting out sounds of wonder.
Yet in the next instant, she began haggling with the vendors.
Before long, her arms were already filled with a large pile of things.
At first, Wei Zisu assumed Xiao Yuanzhi was buying them for other people.
But handkerchiefs, bracelets, fans, hairpins, and rouge—how did any of these look like gifts for the poor?
Had they not agreed to come here to distribute alms?
Just as Wei Zisu suspected, Xiao Yuanzhi had already tossed the matter of charity completely out of her mind.
Her eyes were filled with nothing but money, money, money.
She had struck it rich!
She was going to make a fortune!
The things in her hands were no longer jewelry or ordinary objects.
They were luxury mansions.
They were sports cars.
They were an endless supply of money.
They were the capital she needed to travel around the world, live extravagantly, climb onto the list of the world’s wealthiest people, and become a self-made tycoon.
She had already planned everything.
She would find an auspicious place to bury these objects.
Once she returned to the modern world, she would dig them back up.
Who cared whether this dynasty had ever existed in recorded history?
After a thousand years, every one of these objects would become treasure.
Perhaps she might even become the first person to discover an entirely unknown dynasty.
Then, in one stroke, she would become a legend in the world of archaeology.
She would gain both wealth and fame.
She would be the ultimate winner in life!
Once that happened, she could do whatever she wanted.
The thought made Xiao Yuanzhi even more excited.
Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted a vendor selling porcelain and hurried over.
She picked up a patterned plate and examined it carefully, looking as though she were holding a priceless treasure.
“Wow, this plate is pretty good too. Is it from Jingdezhen?”
“Jingdezhen?” The vendor looked confused. “Miss, this was made in Lufu Town.”
He then asked, “Where is Jingdezhen? Is the porcelain there famous?”
Xiao Yuanzhi examined the writing on the bottom of the plate.
Sure enough, it was not from Jingdezhen.
She waved her hand and casually made something up.
“It’s a place from a book. Naturally, its porcelain can’t compare with this.”
Once she returned and dug this up, what would Jingdezhen porcelain amount to?
Could it compare with an artifact from an entirely unknown dynasty?
Xiao Yuanzhi originally wanted to wave her hand grandly and buy everything.
However, she was unwilling to become an easy mark.
She told the vendor what she wanted, then immediately began bargaining.
The vendor became extremely excited.
He had not expected this young woman to be such a major customer.
While the two of them haggled, Wei Zisu could no longer bear to watch from behind.
Had Xiao Yuanzhi gone mad?
Why did she want all these worthless plates and bowls?
Was she planning to eat them?
And there were so many of them.
How was she going to carry everything?
Wei Zisu certainly had no intention of helping.
But Xiao Yuanzhi had specifically forced her down the mountain to distribute alms.
If they did not actually give anything away, then why had Wei Zisu come down at all?
Had Xiao Yuanzhi dragged her along merely to make a fool of her?
