Accidentally Picked Up a Rich and Amnesiac Alpha (GL) - Chapter 49
Early in the morning, Yan Qingqi had just set the porridge on the table when she heard three distinct knocks on the door, and then the door opened.
Professor Chen was in the lead, followed closely by Wen Huiyu, and then a young nurse. Seeing Yan Qingqi preparing breakfast, Professor Chen said, “Miss Wen, you’re up so early, and the porridge is already cooking.”
Yan Qingqi: “It’s a habit. I’m also steaming corn and purple sweet potatoes. If you don’t mind, Professor Chen, would you stay and have breakfast with us?”
Professor Chen laughed. “Why would I mind anything Miss Wen makes? But this is a routine checkup, so I don’t have the time.”
Professor Chen personally removed the gauze, checked the wound, asked Song Tingxue a few questions, and then re-bandaged the wound. While explaining the medication, he said, “Xiao Wen, give the patient another checkup today. If everything is normal, we can remove the gauze the day after tomorrow.”
Wen Huiyu: “Understood.”
Song Tingxue was wheeled into the examination room, and Yan Qingqi waited outside. When Song Tingxue emerged, Yan Qingqi was the first to help her up, her movements gentle, showing the utmost care.
Wen Huiyu sensed that they were not only lovers but lovers with a very deep affection.
Wen Huiyu was a little surprised that her cousin, who had always been single, maintained a virtuous life, and held immense wealth as the eldest Miss of the Wen family, would choose a celebrity as a girlfriend. Her cousin never followed celebrities and was rarely interested in any star. She barely even watched movies or TV.
However, Song Tingxue was truly beautiful. Not only were her features outstanding, but her cool, clean demeanor perfectly matched the Iceberg Fairy and Snow Mountain Goddess characters she played—a kind of holy beauty. She also heard the nurses privately commenting that Song Tingxue was not only stunning and talented but was also famous in the industry for being morally upright and having zero scandals.
Crucially, the way Song Tingxue looked at her cousin was gentle and deeply affectionate. Anyone would be moved when looked at by those eyes. Moreover, those eyes were fixed solely on one person.
Wen Huiyu smiled faintly. Her cousin liking her didn’t seem so surprising after all.
Back in the ward, Wen Huiyu said, “Sister Shuyan, I’m leaving now. Call me if you need anything.”
Yan Qingqi stopped her. “Let’s have breakfast together. Don’t go to the cafeteria today.”
Wen Huiyu: “No need. I won’t interrupt you two. I can eat in the cafeteria just fine.”
“What’s there to interrupt? You’re my cousin. We grew up together as children. Let’s eat together.”
Yan Qingqi remembered the family photo. She had also heard Jing Michu mention that before her uncle died, his family and her family lived together in the Wen family garden. Although her aunt lived separately, she often brought Jing Michu home to play. The three children, separated by only a few years, played together.
However, Jing Michu also mentioned that Huiyu suddenly became quiet later, didn’t talk much, and always watched the two of them play from a distance. When asked to join, she always shook her head.
Wen Huiyu shook her head. “Really, no need, Sister Shuyan. I’m not used to too many people.”
Yan Qingqi: “…”
This cousin of mine really likes to be alone.
“Alright, then. Next time, I’ll cook a big meal, and we’ll eat together.”
Wen Huiyu smiled faintly, meeting her cousin’s gentle gaze. “Okay.”
Two days later, Song Tingxue’s gauze was indeed removed. It was the first time she saw the tragic state of her hair.
Song Tingxue was stunned, looking somewhat scared.
She stood in front of the mirror for a long time, then suddenly pouted, her eyes welling up with tears.
Yan Qingqi comforted her. “Wife, this is normal for craniotomy. Besides, yours was a complicated surgery. Actually, short hair has its advantages. It’s easy to wash and easy to dry.”
Song Tingxue turned and buried her face in Yan Qingqi’s chest, weeping mournfully. “I’m ugly now.”
“You are not ugly. You are just as beautiful as before.”
“Am I really not ugly? My hair is so awful, like a dog chewed it…” Song Tingxue felt terrible just thinking about it, and her tears started streaming down again.
As a celebrity, her appearance was extraordinarily important to her.
Furthermore, she had to face the Miss Yan she cared about most every day looking like this.
“Not ugly. Truly. Before, your hair was long and soft, but it often covered up your beautiful forehead. Now, I can clearly see my beautiful wife 100% of the time.”
Yan Qingqi dotingly held her wife close. “Songsong, you are really not ugly. You’ve rested for a few days, and your complexion is much better.”
“A-Yan, do you… mind me?”
“Why would you think that? Of course not.” Yan Qingqi lightly kissed her forehead. “I love you. I’ll love you no matter what you look like. Even if you turn into Grandma Sophie.”
“Grandma Sophie?” Song Tingxue paused. “From Howl’s Moving Castle?”
“Yes! Grandma Sophie, who turns back into a sweet young girl when she sleeps. When we’re old, and we both become Grandma Sophies, I’ll still love you. We’ll hold hands and help each other sit in the sun, plant vegetables, and water flowers. Just promise not to complain about me being an old lady.”
Song Tingxue hugged her and laughed, her lips sweet. The worries about her ugly haircut vanished completely.
How could she mind? They would grow old together, walking through life side by side.
What a happy life it would be, having A-Yan’s companionship.
Near noon, the aroma of food wafted from the kitchen into the ward. Song Tingxue was on the phone. In the past few days, Sister Ji, Director Xiao, and even the male lead Xu Huanyan had called to check on her.
Among them was naturally Bai Ming. “Tingxue, how are you doing? Don’t worry about filming. The crew discussed it a few days ago. Focus on your recovery.”
Song Tingxue: “Thank you. I’ll return to the set as soon as possible.”
“See? I told you to focus on healing. By the way, you’re still at Huatian, right? I’ll come to B City to visit you in a couple of days.”
Song Tingxue coldly refused. “No need. I’ll be discharged soon.”
“Then are you returning to H City to recuperate? I’ll visit you at your place.”
Song Tingxue felt annoyed. She knew very well that Yan Qingqi’s sudden unhappiness was definitely related to Bai Ming. Although Bai Ming denied it and A-Yan didn’t say anything, she was certain Bai Ming was involved.
“Director Bai, I have something else to attend to. I need to go now. We can discuss filming when I return to the set.”
“Hello, Tingxue, roughly when will you be back in H City? So I can visit you.”
At this moment, a hand snatched the phone from Song Tingxue. “Director Bai? It’s me, Yan Qingqi, the assistant. I apologize, but Sister Song needs peace and quiet. She won’t be taking any outside calls. When will she return to H City? That’s hard to say. Maybe the doctor will recommend she stay in the hospital for more observation, or maybe the doctor will suggest she goes to Y Province or C Province for recuperation. You want to come to B City? That’s very thoughtful of you, Director Bai. The crew is trying to make up for lost time, yet you’re so free, as if nothing is going on. That’s truly rare. I absolutely do not mean to mock you; you’re overthinking it. You can come to B City anytime, but I’m afraid there won’t be a private jet to pick you up. Sorry, I have to serve lunch to Sister Song now. We’ll see you when we get back to the set. Goodbye.”
Hanging up, Song Tingxue looked at her, laughing. “I never knew you were so articulate. Bai Ming must be furious.”
Yan Qingqi shrugged. “Whether he’s furious or not is none of my business. I usually don’t waste my time talking that much to people.”
Yan Qingqi thought that, given her net worth as Chairman and largest shareholder of Zhaoyuan, the few minutes of wasted chatter probably cost her hundreds of thousands of yuan.
“Alright, now that the annoying Director Bai Fly is gone, let’s go eat.”
Song Tingxue was about to get out of bed, but Yan Qingqi turned around, bent down, and offered her back. “Songsong, I’ll carry you.”
Song Tingxue: “Why carry me? I’m fine and can walk.”
“Just let me carry you. Even Pigsy carried his wife. I haven’t carried mine yet.”
Song Tingxue laughed and hopped onto her back, wrapping her arms around her neck.
“Alright, then, Pigsy.”
“Let’s go, wife. Time for us to eat.”
Song Tingxue smiled sweetly from her back and leaned down to kiss her ear.
Yan Qingqi shivered, nearly dropping Songsong. “Stop teasing, wife. Be careful not to fall.”
That night, a white car stopped in front of a two-story villa in B City’s most exclusive neighborhood. Wen Huiyu got out. Her eyes briefly registered a flashy sports car parked next to the garage. She lowered her gaze and walked toward the villa.
“Miss is home.” The housekeeper at the door opened it, took Wen Huiyu’s bag, and helped her take off her coat.
Wen Huiyu: “Is my mother home?”
Housekeeper: “Yes, Madam is back.”
Wen Huiyu sneered. “Who did she bring home this time?”
The housekeeper didn’t dare answer. “Madam is upstairs on the second floor. She said dinner can be served when Miss returns.”
While Wen Huiyu was washing her hands, the housekeeper was about to go upstairs to call the Madam. Wen Huiyu stopped him. “You don’t need to go. I’ll go.”
She carefully dried her hands and then climbed the stairs step by step.
Standing in the hallway, she heard a cheerful tune from a distance—a flamboyant, unrestrained dance song. Wen Huiyu frowned, walked straight to a room on the second floor, and opened the door.
In the room, the Madam, Wan Lihong, was tightly holding a young man. The two were dancing intimately in the dim light.
Wen Huiyu seemed accustomed to this. She walked over and unplugged the stereo. The seductive, restless music abruptly stopped.
Wan Lihong looked up. Seeing Wen Huiyu, her initially displeased face immediately curved into a smile. “Why the long face? No greeting, just unplugging the power?”
Wen Huiyu: “The music was so loud. Would you be able to hear me talk?”
Wan Lihong patted the young man’s face. “Go back for now. I’ll call you when I have time.”
The young man grabbed his wealthy patron’s hand, pressed it to his heart, and rubbed it. “Then I’m leaving, Sister Wan. Be sure to call me.”
The young man seemed terrified of Wen Huiyu as he walked past her. Scared by her coldness, he didn’t dare look at her and carefully skirted the wall to slip out the door.
Wen Huiyu: “Did you give him the sports car?”
“Yes. He asked for it several times. It’s just a sports car. It’s nothing much. How is it? Isn’t it pretty?”
Wen Huiyu sneered. “How could it be as beautiful as your young Alpha lovers? Father’s death anniversary is in a few days. You are certainly having a good time. It seems you’ve completely forgotten Father.”
Wan Lihong paused, slowly walked to the sofa, and crossed her legs leisurely. “Your father has been dead for so many years. Can’t I have other male Alphas? Besides, I haven’t remarried.”
“If you remarried, you wouldn’t be a Wen daughter-in-law anymore. How else would you benefit from the Wen family?”
“The Wen family is so wealthy. Of course, I’m counting on them.” Wan Lihong shook her head. “I really don’t understand. You came out of my stomach, yet you’re completely different from me. You’re so rigid and dull. You’re wasting your best years. You’re a Miss Wen. What kind of Omega girlfriend couldn’t you get?”
Wen Huiyu sneered. “I’m not as promiscuous as you!”
“You!” Wan Lihong’s face flushed with anger. “I am your mother. Is that how you treat your elder?”
“Then you first need to be a qualified mother.”
“How am I not qualified? Have I deprived you of food or clothes? Did I abuse you? Or abandon you? Do you know how much I’ve worried about you, my only daughter?!”
“Worried? What worried? You’re worried about how to coax your young lovers, aren’t you?”
Wan Lihong: “Huiyu, you are the only descendant of the Wen Second Branch, and you’re an Alpha. You need to act more maturely and stop being so childishly willful.”
Wen Huiyu laughed. “What? You’re upset because I brought up your scandalous affairs?”
Wan Lihong ignored her mocking tone and suddenly changed the subject. “Did you know your cousin went missing recently?”
Wen Huiyu’s eyes flickered slightly. She pursed her lips, not mentioning that her cousin was in the hospital with Song Tingxue.
“No. I haven’t contacted her in a long time.”
“She was found later. It seems she was on vacation somewhere. Why don’t you contact your cousin, go visit her, and take a vacation yourself? Once you officially graduate, you’ll be busy at the hospital. You might as well go enjoy yourself now.”
Wen Huiyu didn’t know why her mother was urging her to visit Wen Shuyan. It was clearly another attempt to get her to strengthen her ties with the Wen family, especially with the heir, Wen Shuyan.
“I won’t go. I’m busy. Besides, my cousin isn’t sick. Why should I visit her?”
“You, you! I just finished explaining it to you! Can’t you visit her if she’s not sick?”
“You and Jing Michu are both her cousins, but you’re related by blood, and you have the Wen surname. Look how close Jing Michu and Wen Shuyan are; she successfully became a CEO. And you? All you do is stay in the lab or the hospital, by yourself. How are you going to inherit the Wen family fortune?”
Wen Huiyu had heard this all before. Since childhood, Wan Lihong always repeated the same sentiment, complaining that she wasn’t close enough to her cousin.
“I never wanted to inherit the Wen family.” She dropped the statement and walked out first.
Behind her, Wan Lihong was furious. “You’re a disappointment! I’m so angry!”
Mother and daughter finished dinner with strained faces.
After dinner, Wen Huiyu returned to her room to rest. She lay on the chair with her eyes closed, but her mind drifted involuntarily to her childhood.
Her father lifting her onto his shoulders, running with her in the garden. She felt like she was flying then, and she was incredibly, incredibly happy.
How old was she then? Maybe just over a year old. Medically, these memories should be forgotten, but strangely, she still remembered them, though vaguely. She only remembered the beautiful, vibrant flowers in the garden, and her viewing them from above, soaring over them.
Perhaps these were her happiest moments, her warmest memories.
A phone ring pierced the quiet air.
Seeing the caller ID, Wen Huiyu sat up from the chair. Her heart pounded uncontrollably. She tried to suppress her excitement, making her voice sound calm and natural.
“Sister Yue, what’s wrong?”
The caller was Kong Yueshu, the second daughter of Sunshine Group.
“Xiao Huizi, do you have any news about your sister? I can’t reach her. Her phone is off, and she’s not replying to my messages. I’m very worried about her.”
The light in Wen Huiyu’s eyes dimmed.
She had long known that Kong Yueshu liked her cousin. She remembered two years ago, when her aunt was still alive, her mother and she returned to the Wen family garden for the Lunar New Year. She overheard her aunt half-seriously, half-jokingly asking her cousin, “Shuyan, what do you think of Miss Kong, the second daughter? I think she’s quite fond of you. Every time she runs into me, she asks about you. Chairman Kong also spoke with me. He would be happy to see the Kong and Wen families unite through marriage. Honestly, Yueshu is beautiful and your Uncle Kong’s treasure. You’ve known each other since you were kids and used to play together. You know each other well. Most importantly, Yueshu isn’t spoiled and doesn’t have a rich girl attitude. If you’re interested, try dating her first. When you’re ready, set a date for the marriage.”
Wen Huiyu listened, her ears burning, not missing a single word.
“Shuyan, give me a definite answer today so your aunt knows what to do.”
Wen Huiyu lowered her head. The hand holding the chopsticks was covered in clammy sweat. She was more nervous than ever before.
Would her cousin agree?
Unexpectedly, her mother, Wan Lihong, said something sensible for once. “Relationships and marriage are personal matters these days. The idea of matching status is outdated. Aunt, stop worrying about these things.”
Aunt: “How can I not worry? Your brother and sister-in-law are gone. I am Shuyan’s aunt, so naturally, I have to worry about her marriage.”
Then, Wen Shuyan spoke. “Aunt, I know you care about me. But as for Miss Kong, I only see her as a friend. I have interacted with Miss Kong regarding corporate project cooperation, but those were purely normal business interactions. I would never dare to have feelings for her.”
Aunt: “So, you are completely uninterested in Yueshu?”
Wen Shuyan: “Yes, I really don’t have those kinds of feelings for her. Besides, right now, I just want to find Manman as soon as possible. Until I find her, I can’t rest easy. A year has passed, and there’s still no news of Shuman. She won’t even be able to celebrate the New Year with us this year.”
Mentioning Shuman, her aunt sighed long and deeply. “Shuman, where could she have gone?”
“Hello, Xiao Huizi, Xiao Huizi, are you there?”
Wen Huiyu snapped back to reality. “Yes, I’m here.”
“Can you help me ask Jing Michu? I know she’s very close with your sister. Maybe she knows what’s going on with her. That girl is slippery; she often doesn’t tell me the truth.”
Wen Huiyu wanted to say, No need to ask Jing Michu; my cousin is at Huatian Hospital right now.
Wen Huiyu instantly remembered her cousin’s relationship with Song Tingxue. Although they hadn’t said it outright, anyone who wasn’t blind or stupid could see how intimate they were. The sweet happiness between them permeated the surrounding air.
She swallowed the words that were on the tip of her tongue.
Wen Huiyu wondered, What would Kong Yueshu do if she found the cousin she had been longing for, only to discover she was in love with another Omega?
She would definitely be devastated!
“My cousin, she’s, um, on vacation.”
“On vacation?!” Kong Yueshu paused on the phone. “Then why won’t she answer my calls or reply to my messages?”
“Well, well, my cousin changed her phone number. I only found out a few days ago myself.” Wen Huiyu did indeed find out her cousin had changed her number when she came into contact with Wen Shuyan the day Song Tingxue was rushed to the hospital.
“Xiao Huizi?”
“Mhm?”
“You’re not telling me the truth. You’re lying to me, aren’t you?”
Wen Huiyu: “…!?” Her entire body stiffened.
“You went silent! You really are lying to me! You were like that when we were little. Whenever I guessed correctly, you would freeze and stay silent.”
Wen Huiyu was stunned, embarrassed that she had been found out, yet a faint sweetness rose in her heart. “You still remember that?”
“Of course, I remember! Jing Michu was the worst, you were the most honest, and you listened to me the most.”
Wen Huiyu curved her lips. She wanted to say, You’re my older sister, so of course, I listened to you.
She gently smiled at the phone, but still didn’t speak.
“Xiao Huizi, please just tell me what’s wrong with your sister. I really want to see her. She’s never been like this before, not replying to messages. I’m afraid something has happened to her.”
The smile vanished from Wen Huiyu’s lips. “Sister Shuyan is fine. Nothing happened to her. She really did change her phone number. I’m not lying to you.”
“Then where is she on vacation? Can you tell me? I want to go see her.”
Wen Huiyu took a deep breath, choosing her words carefully. “Sister Yue, my cousin, Sister Shuyan, is actually recuperating. She needs to be undisturbed.”
“Ah!! What’s wrong with her? Is it serious?”
“She’s fine now, but she needs time to recover quietly. We’re all being careful not to call her.”
Song Tingxue’s every move affected her cousin. When she got sick, her cousin was so anxious and worried, wishing she could take her place. Therefore, Song Tingxue’s illness was equivalent to her cousin’s illness, and Song Tingxue’s recovery was equivalent to her cousin’s recovery.
“Okay, then I won’t disturb her. Please let me know if you hear anything.”
Wen Huiyu readily agreed.
“And,” Kong Yueshu’s voice suddenly lowered, her shy, youthful tone clearly reaching Wen Huiyu’s ears.
“Tell her next time that I’ll be waiting for her to come back.”
The food cooked by Yan Qingqi quickly earned unanimous praise from the medical staff in the VIP ward area. As soon as lunchtime arrived, the young nurses peeked their heads in the door.
“Miss Wen, what delicious food are you cooking today?”
“Meatball soup and Kung Pao chicken, but it’s not very spicy. Do you want some?”
The young nurse nodded furiously. “Yes, please!”
A little later, the nurse emerged with two large containers. Immediately, three or four nurses gathered around, eagerly opening them.
“This meatball soup smells so fresh! I love it!”
“She was chopping meat all morning! I could hear it! It must be delicious!”
“Wow! Spicy chicken! My favorite!”
“This chicken smells so good! Especially fragrant!”
“Of course. The chicken, meat, and vegetables Miss Wen buys are very expensive. The fruit is special delivery from the source.”
“Yes! Miss Wen gave me a peach last time. It was so delicious! The best peach I’ve ever eaten!”
“Who do you think is richer? Miss Wen or Goddess Song?” Goddess Song was the affectionate nickname fans had for Song Tingxue.
“Of course, Goddess Song is richer! Miss Wen is just Goddess Song’s assistant. She’s spending Goddess Song’s money.”
“Really? Then I have to thank my idol for this meal!”
“I don’t think so. Miss Wen is Dr. Wen’s cousin. Dr. Wen’s family is quite wealthy, so her cousin’s family should be well-off too.”
“How is that possible? Just because Dr. Wen’s family is rich doesn’t mean Miss Wen’s family is rich too. My oldest uncle’s family—my real uncle—has four big villas, two companies, and three luxury cars. Look at my family and me. I haven’t even saved up for a down payment on a house.”
Inside the room, Yan Qingqi and Song Tingxue were eating.
Yan Qingqi served her a bowl of soup with two meatballs, mushrooms, and fresh green vegetables.
The meatballs were chopped by Yan Qingqi that morning. The loud thwacking sound had been quite noticeable, prompting patient Songsong to insist on helping chop a few times in the kitchen.
“Eat more fish. It won’t make you gain weight.” Yan Qingqi picked the meat from the fish belly for Song Tingxue.
Song Tingxue usually didn’t like others picking food for her; she preferred to do it herself. But A-Yan picking food for her was the exception.
She ate whatever A-Yan gave her.
After finishing the fish Yan Qingqi gave her, Song Tingxue picked the meat near the fish eye for A-Yan. “A-Yan, I want to be discharged.”
“What’s wrong?”
“I’m much better. Nothing feels uncomfortable. Staying here is nice, but it’s hard to move around.”
A couple of days ago, Song Tingxue felt cooped up in the room and wanted to go out for a walk and some fresh air. She put on a scarf, a mask, and sunglasses.
It was September, and the weather was still hot. She was walking hand-in-hand with Yan Qingqi in the sparse shade outside when she felt too hot and started sweating. She looked around, and seeing no one, she slightly pulled down her scarf and mask. Then, she heard someone whisper, “Hey? Look, is that Song Tingxue?! Is that really Song Tingxue??”
“It can’t be. This is a hospital. She must be filming. Why would she be here?”
“That’s true. But you never know. Maybe Song Tingxue is sick and came here. Celebrities are people too; they get sick, don’t they?”
Seeing them pull out their phones, ready to take pictures, Song Tingxue quickly pulled up her mask and scarf. She pulled Yan Qingqi back to the ward obediently.
If photos were posted online, her ugly haircut would be a minor concern. But her affectionately holding A-Yan’s hand would surely spark rumors, and their secret marriage would be exposed.
“Alright. I’ll ask Professor Chen tomorrow. If he says it’s okay, we’ll go back to H City. It’s more comfortable at home.” Yan Qingqi swallowed the fish eye meat her wife fed her. “I can also cook more complex dishes at home and won’t have to worry about disturbing anyone.”
Song Tingxue smiled faintly. “I’m sorry to trouble you, Chef Yan. The limitations here stifle your culinary creativity.”
The next day, when Professor Chen came for his rounds, Yan Qingqi expressed their wish to be discharged.
Professor Chen laughed. “You want to be discharged? Is it uncomfortable here? I heard Miss Wen has been cooking up a storm every day. Our nurses’ palates have become spoiled; they don’t like the cafeteria food anymore.”
Yan Qingqi laughed politely. “I was bored. So I cooked a couple of extra dishes. It’s more fun when everyone shares.”
“I see Miss Song is recovering very well. How about this: we’ll do one more checkup today. If everything is fine, you can be discharged tomorrow.”
Yan Qingqi was delighted. “Thank you, Professor Chen!”
Professor Chen turned to Wen Huiyu. “Xiao Wen, please go over all the precautions with your cousin.”
“Yes, Master.”
Professor Chen left to continue his rounds. Wen Huiyu stayed behind to review the precautions with her cousin.
Yan Qingqi nodded. Finally, she remembered something. “Can Songsong engage in strenuous activity?”
“We don’t recommend overly strenuous activity. No sprinting, continuous jumping rope, or long-distance swimming for at least two weeks.” Wen Huiyu assumed the big star wanted to maintain her figure and recommended gradually increasing her activity level.
Yan Qingqi blushed. “It’s not exactly overly strenuous… just the kind where the heart rate speeds up and breathing quickens.”
Wen Huiyu saw her cousin stammering and let her mind race through various possibilities. She finally figured it out and lowered her voice.
“You can share a room, but please don’t be too intense.”
