After Seeing Through the Plot, the Cannon Fodder Supporting Female Lead Overturned Her Fate - Chapter 47
Xia Yihuan’s skin was somewhat cold, but her breath was scalding.
Feeling that breath and the temperature of her fingertips, Ye An gradually responded to the kiss. They had kissed many times before, but never with such intensity. The atmosphere in the room began to rise, and an all-consuming ambiguity descended over them like a thin net, gently enveloping them both.
Once some things are started, they are hard to stop.
There was longing in Ye An’s heart, but also suppression. Her past reservations surged back into her mind, searing her so much that her heart actually felt a dull ache.
It wasn’t until she met Xia Yihuan’s eyes—
She suddenly felt that nothing else mattered anymore. In this moment, she simply wanted to hold onto the person in front of her. No matter what happened later, no matter how many changes the future held, it didn’t matter.
At least for tonight, she wanted to indulge herself recklessly.
Keeping the rhythm of the kiss, Ye An parted her lips. Xia Yihuan seemed to understand her intent immediately; her tongue pressed past her teeth to entwine with hers. After a brief pause, they began to kiss passionately once more.
Outside the window, countless fireworks bloomed and fell. Ye An led Xia Yihuan to the bedside, reaching out to pull the curtains shut the moment they leaned against the wall.
Only a sliver of light remained—but that sliver was enough for her to see the person before her clearly.
“Did you shower before coming?” she asked. Her breathing had grown heavy from the kissing, mixing with the heat of her breath and a faint, enchanting smile.
Xia Yihuan stared into her eyes and nodded. “Mhm.”
“I did, too,” Ye An said. Though only a short sentence, it was a clear invitation to the next step.
Soon, Xia Yihuan’s lips pressed against her neck, moving down along the lines of her skin until they reached her smooth shoulder and lovely collarbone.
She used a bit too much force, causing Ye An to take a sharp breath, but a few seconds later, she regained her focus, her lips curving upward as she continued her own movements.
The zipper on Xia Yihuan’s dress was a bit difficult to pull; Ye An’s brow furrowed slightly, and her lips were pursed.
After a moment, Xia Yihuan laughed with her. Her clear, bright eyes reflected Ye An’s shadow, and her scorching breath brushed against Ye An’s cheek. She placed her hand over Ye An’s, moving with her. “It’s okay, let me help you.”
Finally, all obstacles fell away.
Ye An’s smile widened. She lightly licked the shell of Xia Yihuan’s ear, hooking onto her like a cat to draw her close as they lay down together.
As Xia Yihuan’s hand gradually moved lower, Ye An stiffened instinctively. “You…”
She intended to stop her, but then she thought of how far Yihuan had traveled to find her; both rationally and emotionally, she felt she should spoil and indulge her. There was no harm in letting her have her way this once. So the words reached her lips and changed: “Go slow.”
Xia Yihuan didn’t speak. She captured her lips again—on one hand, a tender and moist kiss, but on the other, something ambiguous and deep.
Ye An felt her thoughts gradually becoming blurred and her voice turning fragmented. She felt as if she were trapped in a chaotic pool, yet also as if she could reach out and touch the clouds. Everything around her faded, leaving only the person before her clear and distinct.
It was a long time before she finally found her voice, but what she called out was her name: “Yihuan…”
Xia Yihuan paused for a moment.
Then, she called her name in return. It was no longer the formal “President Ye,” but a soft and tender: “Ye An… An’an.”
It felt as if something had stirred her heart. For some reason, Ye An’s eyes suddenly felt sour.
Fortunately, the room was dark enough and the night deep enough. She reached out to wrap her arms around Xia Yihuan’s neck, exchanging breaths once more. Tears welled up several times, but she forced them back each time.
Inexplicably, however, she felt a chill on her cheek.
Ye An opened her eyes wide in the darkness and realized that the tear had come from Xia Yihuan. She was stunned for a moment, her right hand instinctively rising to brush away the tear stain.
“Why are you crying?” she asked softly.
She received no answer. They were so close, yet neither could reach the other’s heart. Only now did Ye An realize that she had never truly understood the person before her.
Like her, Xia Yihuan seemed to possess unspeakable secrets that neither could voice. They could only watch each other struggle, then sink into the mire together, surrendering in a state of total clarity.
Ye An felt powerless and pained; all she could do was hold her tightly, as if that would bring them closer, and closer still.
…Until they reached the point where they could finally declare their love without reservation.
At some point, it began to snow outside. The flakes fell like goose feathers—heavy, dense, and unceasing. In an instant, a thick layer of snow had accumulated on the ground.
The eaves were likewise dyed pure white. Ye An sat by the bed wrapped in a quilt, looking out through the slit in the curtains.
Xia Yihuan brought her a glass of hot milk. “Drink some.”
“Mhm.” Ye An took it, blowing on it and taking small sips.
Xia Yihuan sat down behind her, her arms wrapping around her from behind to pull her into a gentle embrace. “The snow is so heavy.”
“Yes,” Ye An nodded. She didn’t struggle or refuse, simply allowing herself to be held. They sat together by the window, watching the snow, treasuring the warmth and the scenery.
After a long while, Ye An spoke again: “Are you sleepy?”
Xia Yihuan shook her head, her soft voice sounding in her ear. “I’m alright.”
“Then let’s talk,” Ye An said. “Yihuan… are you hiding something from me?”
As expected, Xia Yihuan fell silent. She seemed to struggle internally for a long time before finally letting out a single word: “Yes.”
“You can’t tell me?” Ye An asked.
“Yes,” Xia Yihuan replied.
Ye An let out a soft sigh, leaning back against her shoulder. After those two “yes” answers, the topic clearly couldn’t continue. She paused, and after a few seconds, found another subject. “Then can you tell me about Lu Ran?”
“Why were you so insistent on sending Lu Ran to City B back then?”
“Because I was afraid.” This time, Ye An’s question found an answer. Xia Yihuan gripped her wrist and spoke in a low voice.
“Afraid of what?”
“Afraid something would happen to her,” Xia Yihuan answered. “Afraid she would end up with the same result as Han Ning.”
This caused Ye An to freeze. She turned her head slightly to look into Xia Yihuan’s eyes. “How could that be? I feel deep sorrow and regret over Han Ning’s accident, too, but that wasn’t your fault.”
Not your fault.
Xia Yihuan pursed her lips and eventually gave a self-mocking smile. “Who can really say?”
“She’s a good person. She’s still young and has infinite possibilities. Compared to C City, the lifestyle in City B is much more suitable for her,” Xia Yihuan said, her pleasant voice blending into the night, quiet and desolate. “I just hope she can live a better life.”
“The same goes for Teacher Yang,” she added. “If it weren’t for Han Ning’s grave being in C City, and the fact that it’s where they lived for so many years, I would have sent her away, too.”
What exactly did she go through to have such thoughts and make such decisions?
Ye An fell silent, only speaking again after a long time. “Then what about me?”
Xia Yihuan knew what Ye An was asking.
Their gazes met. Ye An looked into her eyes, suddenly feeling incredibly nervous, wondering what kind of answer she would give.
But soon, she saw Xia Yihuan smile again—a smile free of any impurity, devout and sincere. “You are different. You are different from everyone else.”
“You are the high-and-mighty President Ye. You are the strong and brave Ye An, the person I admire and envy. You are…” She paused for a few seconds. Ye An sensed she wanted to say something but couldn’t for some reason.
So, in the end, she changed course, her words becoming incredibly soft and firm: “You are my protagonist. You don’t need anyone to protect you to live a good life.”
Protagonist. This was the first time Ye An had heard this description.
It caused a wave of bitterness to rise in her heart. If only what Xia Yihuan said were true. If she were really some “protagonist,” she wouldn’t have to worry about how many years she had left to live, nor would she have to care about so much.
But she was willing to go along with Xia Yihuan’s words; she wanted her to be happy. “Is that so? Then that’s wonderful.”
“You…” She was still looking into Xia Yihuan’s eyes, seemingly having much more to ask, but before she could say anything else, a phone rang.
It was Xia Yihuan’s phone. The caller ID read: Auntie Zhang.
“It’s a call from a friend of my teacher,” Xia Yihuan said. She signaled to Ye An and answered. Within a few sentences, her expression changed drastically.
Ye An heard bits and pieces but wasn’t sure. “What’s wrong?”
“Something happened to Teacher Yang,” Xia Yihuan said with difficulty. For a moment, she could barely speak, and her mind was in chaos. “A sudden myocardial infarction…”
“A heart attack?” Ye An asked, immediately becoming anxious. “What happened?”
“I don’t know the specific reason; they’re still resuscitating her now.” Xia Yihuan shook her head, trying her best to stay calm. “Auntie Zhang used to work in medicine and gave her first aid before the ambulance arrived, but no one knows how she is now.”
“I’m sorry, President Ye, I might have to go back,” Xia Yihuan said, standing up and quickly putting on her clothes. “You—”
Before she could finish, Ye An interrupted her. “I’m going back with you.”
“The snow is so heavy now; even if the planes and high-speed trains haven’t stopped, they’ll be delayed. How will you get back?” she said, also getting up and dressing, walking to the table to grab a set of keys. “Lu Ran left her car here in case I needed to move around.”
She gripped Xia Yihuan’s hand tightly, giving her both stability and hope. “I’ll drive you back.”
“Don’t be afraid.”
She said.
