After Seeing Through the Plot, the Cannon Fodder Supporting Female Lead Overturned Her Fate - Chapter 49
As soon as Ye An finished speaking, Xia Yihuan fell into silence, just as she had expected.
Ye An stared into her eyes, her expression remaining as calm and relaxed as before; only she knew how incredibly nervous she was at this moment.
Despite staying with Xia Yihuan for so long, she still couldn’t see through the person in front of her, nor could she read her emotions. Even though they had shared intimacy, she couldn’t guarantee that Xia Yihuan felt even a shred of genuine affection for her.
In her life, Ye An had always stuck to things she was absolutely certain of. Except for this one time.
Simply because she was afraid—afraid that if she missed out on Xia Yihuan now, she would never have another chance in this lifetime.
“Well?” Ye An prompted, exerting maximum control over her tone, curling her lips into a nonchalant smile. “You aren’t at a loss here.”
“But whether you agree or not is up to you,” she added. “If you’re unwilling, then—”
“I’m willing.” Before she could finish, Xia Yihuan nodded gently. “I’m willing.”
Ye An froze for a few seconds before finally reclaiming her voice: “Don’t you want to… consider it further?”
“No need.” As the words fell, Xia Yihuan also smiled. “Being your lover is my honor, President Ye. Just as you said, I’m not the one losing out.”
Good. She agreed.
Ye An let out a sigh of relief. She couldn’t quite describe the sensation she felt; she only knew that her entire body relaxed along with that “I’m willing.” The previous tension and unease scattered like a gust of wind.
“Then tomorrow morning, I’ll transfer a sum of money to you,” she said, leaning her head back against the wall and slowly closing her eyes. “If you perform well in the future, I’ll give you even more.”
Since she had no family and couldn’t take her money with her after death anyway, she might as well handle it all before the end. Giving it to someone she found pleasant was a good plan.
Using money to buy a bit of happiness was a perfectly fine trade.
Xia Yihuan didn’t reply, but simply reached out and pulled Ye An’s body toward her, letting her lean against her shoulder.
Her embrace was soft and warm. Ye An didn’t open her eyes; the nine-hour drive had drained too much of her energy. The moment her eyes closed, sleepiness swept over her.
“I’ll hold you, President Ye,” Xia Yihuan’s voice whispered in her ear. “If you’re tired, rest for a while.”
“Mhm,” Ye An murmured, her brow furrowing slightly in dissatisfaction.
She felt instinctively that she wanted to correct Xia Yihuan about something, but because the urge to sleep was so strong, she couldn’t recall what it was. Soon, she drifted off.
In her entire life, the number of times she had fallen asleep in a public or external setting could be counted on one hand. There were exactly two.
And both times were because of Xia Yihuan.
In this chaotic, messy world, Xia Yihuan had lent her a shoulder, allowing her to forget all her troubles and lean back in total peace.
Teacher Yang woke up near dawn.
No one had expected her health to suddenly fail like this. Fortunately, she had received proper first aid and was rushed to the hospital immediately. After a series of treatments, she was finally out of danger.
Like Xia Yihuan, her sisters from the neighborhood had stayed at the hospital all night. Seeing her wake up, they finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“Aunties, please go back and rest. I’ll stay and take care of her.” Xia Yihuan thanked them with a bow again and specifically rented two cars to take everyone to a hotel, hoping they could get some good rest.
“You should head back too, President Ye.” After finishing these arrangements, Xia Yihuan turned her gaze toward Ye An. “You’ve worked so hard accompanying me through all this.”
“Yihuan, what are you talking about?” Ye An shook her head. That brief sleep had restored most of her energy; she felt she was clearer-headed than Xia Yihuan at this moment. There was no reason for her to leave first. “Teacher Yang has always looked after me. Since something like this happened, I have to stay no matter what.”
“Don’t argue,” she added, signaling Xia Yihuan to be quiet. “It’s settled.”
“Go stay with your teacher,” she said, gently pinching Xia Yihuan’s cheek before turning to walk downstairs. “I’m going to get some food.”
Her figure was as elegant and chic as ever, soon vanishing from sight.
Xia Yihuan stared at her back, her lips curving upward unconsciously. It was a long time before she finally turned away.
The two stayed at the hospital together, keeping Teacher Yang company for an entire day until Auntie Zhang and the others came to take over the night shift.
Teacher Yang’s sudden collapse wasn’t entirely without cause. Firstly, she had been overworked these past few days; secondly, she was grieving for her daughter. These two factors accumulated over time until she could no longer bear it.
Before leaving, Xia Yihuan repeatedly urged Teacher Yang to make sure she rested.
“And tell her not to think too much!” 023 suddenly chimed in, appearing very concerned. “The dead are gone; overthinking only adds to the sadness!”
“Mhm,” Xia Yihuan replied. Though that was true, some scars were destined never to be erased by the passage of time. “We’ll take it slow.”
“Sigh.” 023 let out a sigh. As a system, she didn’t fully understand human emotions, but she had to admit that when she heard Teacher Yang was in critical condition, she felt an unprecedented tension. She wondered if she had been with Xia Yihuan too long. “Teacher Yang is truly pitiable.”
She slipped up for a second: “If I were her daughter, I definitely wouldn’t make her this sad.”
At those words, Xia Yihuan naturally ignored her again.
The system coughed, feeling she had likely hit a sore spot again, and quickly shut up. “Fine, I won’t say any more…”
There were several hotels near the hospital. Ye An’s own residence was a bit far, and fearing it would be inconvenient to go back and forth, she booked a room nearby.
Despite the simple wash-up in the morning, after staying in the hospital all day, Ye An felt like she was covered in the scent of disinfectant. She sighed and dove straight into the bathroom the moment they arrived at the hotel.
Xia Yihuan’s voice drifted in from outside: “What would you like for dinner, President Ye?”
“I don’t have much of an appetite.” Ye An turned on the shower. As the warm water flowed over her body, she felt an unprecedented sense of leisure. “Yihuan, just grab something for yourself.”
“Okay,” Xia Yihuan said.
“Mhm.” Ye An nodded and said nothing more, focusing on her shower.
However, after a short while, she suddenly heard a faint noise at the door, like someone pushing the bathroom door open and walking in with light footsteps.
Ye An paused, thinking she had misheard, and didn’t pay it much mind until the person grew closer and closer, finally speaking: “President Ye, let me wash your back.”
Ye An was startled, finally opening her eyes and looking sideways. “Yihuan?”
“Why are you…” She faltered for a second, her gaze quickly sweeping downward. She realized Xia Yihuan was wearing nothing but a thin, light shirt.
The mist rose in the bathroom, making everything hazy. Even the bright overhead light seemed to soften. Xia Yihuan stood right under that soft glow, staring at her with those beautiful eyes.
Ye An sensed her intention but opened her lips to confirm anyway: “Are you sure?”
“We’re staying in a hotel,” she said, reaching out to hook Xia Yihuan’s collar and tugging gently, her voice tilting upward at the end. “If this shirt gets wet, you won’t have a change for tomorrow.”
Her tone was light, her warm breath mingling with the steam as it brushed against Xia Yihuan’s cheek.
Xia Yihuan shook her head gently. “It doesn’t matter. It’s just a shirt.”
As she spoke, the smile in Ye An’s eyes deepened.
In the next second, she reached out to grab Xia Yihuan’s wrist and pulled her under the shower spray. Despite being in the hospital all day, Xia Yihuan’s scent remained fragrant—startlingly pleasant.
Ye An gripped her arm and lightly kissed her neck, her voice low and filled with infinite tenderness: “You still owe me once, remember?”
Xia Yihuan nodded, her fair cheeks quickly blooming with a beautiful warmth from the water. “I remember.”
Just two words, but they were enough to make the heart stir.
Ye An felt that tonight’s Xia Yihuan was much more proactive than usual, but she didn’t dislike it; on the contrary, she loved it. Whether cold, gentle, passive, or proactive—as long as it was Xia Yihuan, she loved her.
Even if she had a thousand faces, Ye An would accept them all and love her sincerely a thousand times over.
The white shirt was soon tossed aside. With the moisture of the water, Ye An bit by bit increased the intensity.
Xia Yihuan seemed unable to bear the stimulation; her lovely brow furrowed slightly, and the pale pink on her cheeks deepened into a beautiful red—from her cheeks to her ears, to her neck, to the soft murmurs that rose with the sound of the water.
Ye An smiled and began to whisper her name: “Yihuan, Yihuan.”
Every call was soft, every call was tender, as if she wanted to carve the name into her very marrow, warming her heart along with it.
A person who is already beautiful is even more so when moved by passion.
Someone turned the shower flow down quite a bit. Droplets of water clung to Xia Yihuan’s eyelashes as she looked intently into Ye An’s eyes. Sensing the other’s gaze, she leaned in, wanting to kiss her face.
But before she could, Ye An stopped her: “Wait.”
“What…?” Xia Yihuan asked softly, her breathing ragged.
“Call me An’an.” Ye An’s voice sounded in the next second, laced with both a smile and temptation. “Don’t call me President Ye anymore. Call me An’an.”
“Agree to that,” she said. “Only then will I let you kiss me.”
