Chapter 29
Bai Tang thought about it for an entire night.
She decided to leave Xiao Xinyue.
She had forgotten a lot of the original plot. As for the details, she could not remember them at all. But last night, she had worked hard to sort through what she did remember.
In the original story, after the adult villain went to the magic academy for further study, she met the male lead. From there, her tragic life began. She had thought he was her salvation, but in reality, the male lead pushed her into an even more terrifying abyss.
If the male and female leads were destined to be together, then she only needed to make them get together earlier. That way, when the villain met the male lead, she would not fall to his gentleness.
After a night of careful thought, Bai Tang made up her mind to leave Xiao Xinyue.
Even though she had clearly promised to always stay by her side.
She was going to break her promise for a short while.
Bai Tang rubbed her little head against the pillow. It carried the little villain’s scent, and her eyes were full of attachment.
She really could not bear to part with Xiao Xinyue.
But this was for her own good.
What was so great about that pig-trotter male lead anyway? If Xiao Xinyue wanted gentleness, Bai Tang could do that too.
When Xiao Xinyue returned from washing up, she saw Bai Tang lying on her pillow, rubbing against it again and again.
It was cute, yes.
But was it not also a little perverted?
Xiao Xinyue asked, “What are you doing?”
Bai Tang raised her head to look at her.
Xiao Xinyue had already changed into a white floral dress. The pure white color fell over her body, adding a few touches of cool elegance.
Bai Tang blinked at her. “Can you carry me to wash up?”
Xiao Xinyue: “…”
Bai Tang then said pitifully, “You don’t want to?”
Helpless, Xiao Xinyue bent down and picked her up.
Bai Tang rubbed against her in her arms. She was warm and soft. The person herself smelled much better than the pillow.
At the thought that she was about to leave and would no longer be able to wake up in Xiao Xinyue’s arms, Bai Tang felt the urge to cry.
Xiao Xinyue brought her to wash up. She picked up Bai Tang’s little toothbrush. “Open your mouth.”
Bai Tang cooperatively opened her mouth, her big eyes staring at Xiao Xinyue without blinking.
Xiao Xinyue’s eyes were serious, all her attention focused on Bai Tang’s clean little teeth.
Bai Tang kept staring at her.
No matter how long she looked, it was never enough.
Xiao Xinyue said, “Drink water.”
Bai Tang drank a large mouthful of water and spat it out.
Xiao Xinyue dampened the small towel again and wiped away the remaining foam on her face. “All right. Go eat breakfast.”
Bai Tang did not go. She stayed at the side and watched her.
Xiao Xinyue washed the towel clean and placed it aside to dry. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw that Bai Tang still had not left. She was not even eager to eat.
“Not hungry?”
“Hungry.”
“Then why aren’t you going?”
“I’m waiting to go with you.”
Obedient to an abnormal degree.
Xiao Xinyue went to the dining room.
Bai Tang followed behind her.
She had seen Xiao Xinyue’s back many times, from when she had been a small girl to her current graceful figure.
Bai Tang wanted to cry again, but she had to leave as soon as possible before the plot began. The earlier, the better.
After the meal, Xiao Xinyue sat on the sofa and read. Before long, Bai Tang came closer.
Bai Tang kept staring at her.
Xiao Xinyue asked, “Are you reading the book, or are you looking at me?”
Bai Tang immediately stared at the book and said cheerfully, “I’m reading the book.”
Xiao Xinyue curved her lips. “Then tell me what it says.”
Bai Tang was troubled.
She could not expose that she knew how to read.
Bai Tang made something up. “It says I am the cutest spirit beast in this world.”
Xiao Xinyue could not hold back and laughed. Her brows and eyes curved, and her expression softened a great deal. “There is no spirit beast more narcissistic than you.”
Seeing her smile, Bai Tang also smiled.
Bai Tang used her head to push aside the book on Xiao Xinyue’s lap, then laid her own little head there instead and said softly, “I’ll just lie here for a little while.”
Xiao Xinyue did not push her away.
Bai Tang soon fell asleep.
She had not slept much last night, thinking about what to do from now on. Now that she had made up her mind, she could finally have a good sleep.
—
Bai Tang slept all the way until afternoon.
She opened her eyes in confusion, and the first thing she saw was Xiao Xinyue. She was still lying on Xiao Xinyue’s lap.
Bai Tang was startled.
How long had she slept?
Had the little villain sat there without moving the entire time?
Bai Tang quickly moved away and looked at Xiao Xinyue.
Xiao Xinyue’s legs had already gone numb. She said lightly, “You slept like a little pig.”
Bai Tang did not retort. Instead, she asked anxiously, “Why didn’t you move me away? Are your legs numb already? Holding one position for several hours must be so tiring.”
Xiao Xinyue said coldly, “I forgot while reading.”
Bai Tang saw the book placed to the side. It was already closed. Besides that, there was another book there. Clearly, Xiao Xinyue had finished one book, asked Lan Ji for another, and had not even eaten lunch.
She could not fool Bai Tang.
Bai Tang felt both touched and sad.
For Bai Tang to sleep comfortably, Xiao Xinyue had not moved for several hours.
Bai Tang threw herself into her arms. Her eyes were red, and tears swirled in them. She quickly rubbed them against Xiao Xinyue’s clothes, pretending she was only nuzzling her. When she raised her eyes again, they were bright, clear, and blue, shimmering with light. “You really love lying.”
Having her lie exposed, Xiao Xinyue felt extremely uncomfortable. “Aren’t you the one best at lying?”
For once, Bai Tang did not argue back.
She had lied to her too, saying she would always stay by her side.
It was not as though she was leaving the little villain forever. As long as she helped the male and female leads get together ahead of time, the direction of the plot would completely change. She would return to Xiao Xinyue’s side.
Bai Tang had not expected that even a temporary separation would make her this sad.
Lan Ji walked over. “Young Lady, may I serve the meal now?”
Xiao Xinyue gave an “Mm.”
Bai Tang’s stomach growled in cooperation.
She was not embarrassed at all and said honestly, “I’m hungry.”
Lan Ji smiled. “Mm, I know.”
Bai Tang hurried to the dining room.
Lan Ji said, “Young Lady, you spoil her too much.”
No one raised a spirit beast like this.
Xiao Xinyue’s legs were still a little numb. She did not get up, only glanced at Lan Ji. “Go serve the food. Don’t make her wait too anxiously.”
Lan Ji turned and left.
Xiao Xinyue beat her legs lightly. She knew very well that she treated Bai Tang a little too well. Lan Ji was not wrong. No one raised a spirit pet the way she did.
But there was no second Bai Tang in this world either.
Even though Bai Tang was her spirit pet, Xiao Xinyue always had the illusion that she could not hold onto her.
Bai Tang could speak and had her own independent thoughts. She was not as simple as an ordinary spirit beast. To Xiao Xinyue, she was an even more special existence.
—
Bai Tang swung her legs as she waited in the dining room for a long time before Lan Ji finally arrived. Her little stomach had already protested countless times.
Lan Ji divided the food for her.
Bai Tang looked at her with round, bright eyes. “Can I have one more serving?”
Lan Ji was surprised. What she had given Bai Tang was already the amount she usually ate for one meal. But soon, Lan Ji understood. Perhaps because Bai Tang had not eaten lunch, she was hungrier than usual.
Lan Ji said, “I’ll go make another serving for you.”
Bai Tang said sweetly, “Thank you.”
The corners of Lan Ji’s lips curved.
She hurried to the kitchen.
Bai Tang tightly gripped her spoon and ate bite by bite, neither too fast nor too slow.
She had to hurry to the magic academy. She did not know how many more meals cooked by Lan Ji she would be able to eat. The first thing she could not bear to leave was Xiao Xinyue. The second was delicious food. The third was Lan Ji, who had always stayed by their side.
Holding back tears, Bai Tang ate one bite after another.
Perhaps it was because she had always pretended to cry in front of the little villain. Now, she seemed to love crying more and more.
Bai Tang heard footsteps and knew Xiao Xinyue had arrived. She quickly restrained her emotions and pretended to be very happy.
Xiao Xinyue pulled out a chair and sat beside her. Seeing Bai Tang eat so elegantly, she was stunned for a moment.
“Poor appetite?”
Bai Tang shook her head.
She pointed her little paw at the empty plates.
Xiao Xinyue looked and saw that two plates were already empty. That meant her appetite was still quite good, so she stopped worrying.
After Bai Tang finished eating, she even took the initiative to help clear the plates. Because she was afraid of breaking them, she could only carry one plate at a time.
Bai Tang handed the plate to Lan Ji.
Lan Ji accepted it and placed it aside, then took out five copper coins.
Bai Tang: “??”
She really had not come to earn money.
Lan Ji was puzzled. “You don’t want them?”
Bai Tang stretched out her little paw and picked them up one by one.
Carrying the five copper coins, Bai Tang went to the courtyard and hid them.
If Lan Ji had not taken out money, she would have nearly forgotten that leaving required money. Traveling required money, eating required money, and she also had to buy a map, otherwise she would not be able to find the place at all.
But only five copper coins were far from enough. The more travel money she had, the better.
Bai Tang had a headache.
How could she quickly gather money?
After hiding the money, Bai Tang returned inside.
She searched everywhere for Xiao Xinyue.
She did not find her on the first floor, so she went to the second floor. Still, she did not see the little villain.
Bai Tang ran back and forth, growing more and more anxious the longer she searched.
Lan Ji ran into her. “Are you looking for the Young Lady?”
Bai Tang nodded.
Lan Ji said, “Young Lady accidentally spilled juice while drinking. She’s bathing.”
Without thinking, Bai Tang rushed toward the bathroom.
The richest person was the little villain. If Xiao Xinyue was in a good mood, maybe she could reward Bai Tang with a few gold coins.
Bai Tang was anxious and rushed especially quickly. She could not stop in time, and her head slammed straight into the door, making stars burst before her eyes.
When she came back to her senses, she discovered that she had knocked the door open.
Bai Tang was completely stunned.
Xiao Xinyue casually picked up her clothes to cover herself. Her skin was snow-white and delicate, her wet long hair draped over her shoulders. Her collarbones were clear, and water droplets slid down her body. Her clear, beautiful face was flushed, and her eyes were misty with water as she glared fiercely at Bai Tang.
Bai Tang finally snapped out of it.
She rushed backward with all her might.
Lan Ji only saw a blurry shadow sweep past her.
Bai Tang rushed all the way to the courtyard.
She had stopped moving, but her heartbeat had not.
Why had the little villain not closed the door properly?
Bai Tang felt a little uncomfortable. She rubbed her face with her paw and discovered that her paw was covered in blood.
Bai Tang: “!!”
Could spirit beasts get nosebleeds too?
She had originally wanted to ask for a few gold coins, but how was she supposed to ask now?
After getting dressed, Xiao Xinyue came looking for her, only to see Bai Tang’s face covered in blood, her paws covered as well.
Worry instantly overwhelmed all other emotions.
She quickly walked up to Bai Tang and crouched down.
“Why are you bleeding? Are you hurt somewhere?”
Bai Tang looked at her clear, charming face and still felt a little shy. She did not dare look directly at her. “I did it by accident.”
Xiao Xinyue took out a handkerchief and wiped away the bloodstains for her.
When it would not wipe clean, she used water magic to rinse her clean, then used wind magic to instantly dry her fur.
Xiao Xinyue checked Bai Tang’s whole body once over, but she could not find any wound. She was very confused.
“Why isn’t there a wound?”
Bai Tang’s eyes dodged. “The wound was very small. It healed right away.”
Xiao Xinyue: “…”
She was obviously lying, but as long as she was not hurt, it was fine.
“Why did you rush in just now?” Since Bai Tang was not injured, it was time to settle accounts.
Bai Tang threw herself into Xiao Xinyue’s arms and acted soft and spoiled. “I missed you too much. After eating, I couldn’t see you, so I got very anxious.”
Complete nonsense.
Xiao Xinyue did not believe it, but her mood improved.
Seeing that Xiao Xinyue was not scolding her, Bai Tang rubbed against her arms again.
Xiao Xinyue felt something prick her.
She pulled Bai Tang away and discovered that the horn hidden among her snow-white fur had grown out a little more.
