Chapter 8
The clothing shop was on the other end of the small street. Bai Tang was held in Lan Ji’s arms, constantly looking around.
The little villain had only held her for a few seconds before refusing to hold her anymore, casually tossing her to Lan Ji.
It was not as if Bai Tang liked being held by Xiao Xinyue. So what if the scent on her body was a little nice? She was young and small, and her arms had no strength at all. Bai Tang was afraid she might drop her.
From the corner of her eye, Xiao Xinyue noticed a certain stupid little beast secretly glancing at her from time to time. She could not be bothered to care and looked straight ahead.
After walking for a few minutes, they arrived at the clothing shop.
As soon as they entered, the shop owner came out to greet them warmly.
Xiao Xinyue was a major customer here. Most of the large batches of luxurious fabrics were bought by her, and every time she came, she customized several sets of clothes.
The owner said, “Your clothes were finished the day before yesterday. We have already packed them. Please take a look.”
Bai Tang watched with wide eyes. Seeing a person several decades old treating a child with such respect was truly unfamiliar and strange. Yet the employees beside the owner were already used to it.
Xiao Xinyue casually opened a few packaging boxes and touched the clothes. The fabric was smooth, and the patterns on it had been embroidered stitch by stitch. The texture was excellent.
She nodded slightly.
The owner’s smile grew even wider.
Lan Ji paid the money, told them the location of the carriage, and asked them to deliver the items there. Then she followed Xiao Xinyue out of the shop.
Lan Ji asked, “Young Lady, is there anything else you want to buy?”
Xiao Xinyue said, “Let’s just look around.”
Fragrances drifted through the little street. The rich, milky aroma of bread tempted people’s taste buds. Xiao Xinyue glanced at the bakery.
Lan Ji said, “Miss, would you like some bread? I heard they launched a new item. It’s cream bread.”
Bai Tang grabbed Lan Ji’s clothes.
She wanted to eat it!
“Your spirit pet seems to want some too.”
Xiao Xinyue sneered. “What does she not want to eat?”
Bai Tang puffed out her cheeks angrily.
She was not a rice bucket.
But it did seem like she ate a little too much.
Xiao Xinyue walked into the bakery. The fragrance inside was even richer. The bread displayed in the glass case came in all kinds of shapes, sprinkled with powdered sugar on top. They looked extremely delicious.
Bai Tang was also drawn in and kept staring, her drool nearly dripping onto Lan Ji.
Lan Ji took out a handkerchief and wiped her mouth.
Xiao Xinyue pointed at the bread. “This one, that one, this one too, and the cream bread. Wrap them all up.”
Watching her buy bread, Bai Tang practically saw the image of a domineering CEO from her previous world. She was unbearably hungry. Xiao Xinyue would definitely give her one, right?
The shopkeeper packed everything, and Lan Ji accepted the package and paid.
After leaving the shop, Xiao Xinyue took out a cream bread and tore open the thin wrapping bag, then began eating it.
The bread was soft and fluffy. Since it had just come out of the oven, it was still slightly warm. The cream filling melted into the bread, making it even softer and sweeter.
Bai Tang drooled.
Lan Ji had already changed to another handkerchief. In the future, she might have to prepare several more.
Xiao Xinyue saw her and asked, “Want some?”
Bai Tang nodded like a chick pecking rice.
Xiao Xinyue held the bread in front of her.
One-third of the bread had already been bitten off, just enough to reveal the filling inside. It looked very tempting.
Giving her something that had already been eaten—Bai Tang was disgusted in her heart.
Although she was disgusted, she still opened her mouth wide. But just as she bit down, she bit into empty air.
Bai Tang: ?!
Xiao Xinyue took another bite. “I never said I was giving it to you.”
Bai Tang’s little face nearly puffed up into a bun. Her sapphire-blue eyes widened, full of dissatisfaction, and she felt especially wronged.
Fine, then she would not eat it.
It was just one piece of bread.
Lan Ji’s heart softened at the sight. The Young Lady really did love bullying people, but Bai Tang’s aggrieved little punching-bag appearance was also super cute.
Lan Ji’s face still had no expression, but she took a piece of bread out of the newspaper-like paper bag, preparing to give it to Bai Tang.
Xiao Xinyue said, “You are not allowed.”
Bai Tang looked at Lan Ji eagerly. Her gemstone-bright eyes were covered with mist, as if she were about to cry from craving it.
Lan Ji put the bread back.
The Young Lady’s orders would always come first.
The light in Bai Tang’s clear eyes dimmed. She lay half-dead in Lan Ji’s arms, utterly hopeless.
Xiao Xinyue would not even give her one piece of bread. Bai Tang did not have a single copper coin on her either. Fine, if she would not give it, then she would not give it. She did not care!
Xiao Xinyue glanced at her and continued eating the bread as if nothing had happened.
Cold and heartless.
Bai Tang closed her eyes. Fine, she would sleep.
After finishing the bread, Xiao Xinyue said, “Let’s buy some fruit to bring back.”
Although people delivered all kinds of food and fruit at regular intervals, it was rare for her to go out, so Xiao Xinyue also wanted to buy some things herself.
There were many farmers selling fruit at stalls, and many choices available.
Bai Tang could not sleep anymore.
She was very curious about the fruits in this world.
The stalls displayed all kinds of strange fruits in various colors. The original novel had never explained any of these, so everything was new to Bai Tang.
She jumped onto a stall and examined them carefully.
Seeing her disturb the stall owner’s business, Xiao Xinyue said sharply, “Come back.”
Bai Tang was intimidated, and her fur puffed up slightly.
Why was she being so fierce?
The stall owner looked at the soft little spirit beast in front of him. Her face was proper and pretty, and her fur was beautiful. He liked her so much that he even took a small red fruit and gave it to her.
Bai Tang immediately held it and ate it.
The stall owner smiled and said, “It’s all right. This is my first time seeing such a cute spirit beast. She really makes people like her.”
Xiao Xinyue glanced at Bai Tang, who was eating with great enjoyment.
Now she was relying on her looks to swindle people outside.
Bai Tang finished gnawing the small fruit in a few bites. It tasted fresh and sweet, with plenty of juice. It was far more delicious than the fruits from her world. Once she had tasted it, she could not stop.
Bai Tang hated with all her heart that she had no money.
She looked pitifully at Xiao Xinyue.
Lan Ji said, “Miss, she still wants to eat.”
Bai Tang nodded desperately.
So buy it for her, little domineering CEO.
Xiao Xinyue seriously suspected that Lan Ji had already been bribed by Bai Tang. Otherwise, why was she always speaking for her?
She asked, “You really want to eat it?”
Bai Tang nodded and looked at her expectantly.
Xiao Xinyue said, “Take a bag.”
The stall owner said, “All right!”
Bai Tang widened her eyes. Xiao Xinyue actually bought it for her.
The stall owner packed a bag for Xiao Xinyue. Lan Ji accepted it for her and paid ten copper coins.
Bai Tang stared at the heavy bag of fruit in Lan Ji’s hand. Xiao Xinyue really bought it for her. Had the sun risen from the west? Had the little villain discovered her conscience? Bai Tang’s face was full of disbelief.
Xiao Xinyue flicked her little head. “You already ate someone’s fruit. It wouldn’t be right not to buy any. I’ll deduct it from your dinner.”
Bai Tang covered her head with her little paws, her eyes reddening from the pain. That was too heavy-handed. She knew it. How could the little villain possibly be that kind? Compared with these fruits, dinner was of course more important.
Dinner had lots and lots of meat. Fruit could not fill her stomach at all. Even with the fruit, if her dinner was deducted, Bai Tang was no longer very happy.
Xiao Xinyue said, “Let’s look elsewhere.”
There were many more stalls, and Bai Tang was dazzled by all of them.
Xiao Xinyue bought many fruits. Lan Ji was holding bread and fruit, so it was no longer convenient for her to hold Bai Tang. Bai Tang followed closely beside Xiao Xinyue, afraid they would get separated again.
“Freshly picked! Come take a look!”
Bai Tang was drawn in by that extremely loud voice. She turned her head and looked, and her eyes immediately lit up.
The stall was filled with enormous fruits, round and plump, even bigger than her. If they bought one back, would she still have to worry about not filling her stomach tonight? And the color was super beautiful too. It was purple.
If she did not have enough dinner, she would be too hungry to sleep!
Bai Tang’s eyes sparkled as she tugged at Lan Ji’s trouser leg.
Lan Ji stopped.
Xiao Xinyue looked back. “What is it?”
Lan Ji was looking at Bai Tang.
Xiao Xinyue understood. “Not buying it. Let’s go.”
Bai Tang was unwilling. Mist gathered in her blue eyes, making her look pitiful.
This little tyrant was so rich, yet she was unwilling to buy even one fruit for her. She really was super harsh toward her own spirit pet.
Lan Ji could not withstand that gaze. “I’ll buy it for her. What do you want?”
Bai Tang immediately smiled, showing her little fangs. This young lady was the good one. The little villain could not be relied on.
Xiao Xinyue said, “No.”
Lan Ji’s hand, which had been reaching for her purse, stopped. “If Miss says no, then we won’t buy it.”
Bai Tang: “…”
She had gotten happy for nothing.
Being the little villain’s spirit pet was too miserable. She could not eat enough, was scolded every day, did not have enough food or warmth, and had to constantly worry about losing her head. Bai Tang’s little ears drooped, and she looked extremely dejected.
Xiao Xinyue saw Bai Tang secretly glance at her from time to time, her little eyes full of grievance. She truly looked pitiful and lovable. Xiao Xinyue knew very well that this was Bai Tang’s little trick. She knew better than anyone how cunning her spirit pet was.
She said calmly, “Let’s go.”
Lan Ji said, “Xiao Bai is crying.”
Crying? Xiao Xinyue lowered her eyes and looked. She really was.
Her beautiful blue eyes were filled with tears, which fell in large drops. Her little pink nose seemed even redder, and her small mouth was pressed together. Her face was full of unhappiness. She was clearly so wronged, yet it made her even more lovable.
Xiao Xinyue bit her lip and said softly, “What do you want?”
Bai Tang wiped her tears with her little paws and pointed at the purple fruit that was as big as a watermelon.
Xiao Xinyue looked at it and asked, “Are you sure you want that?”
Bai Tang nodded.
She wanted the big one. It would fill her up.
Xiao Xinyue went to buy it.
Bai Tang wiped away her tears. She had to beg this much just for one fruit. But she had no money of her own. The more she thought about it, the more wronged she felt, and she could not help crying. She had not even cried after transmigrating into this unfamiliar world, yet she had cried for a fruit. How embarrassing.
Xiao Xinyue returned carrying the purple fruit.
Bai Tang’s eyes, which had just cried, were as clear and bright as if they had been washed with water. When she saw the purple fruit as big as herself, she immediately grinned and rushed forward, directly hugging it.
Xiao Xinyue: “…”
She suspected Bai Tang might have been pretending to cry.
But this fruit…
Bai Tang impatiently took a bite, and a pained expression immediately appeared on her face.
So bitter. Once it entered her mouth, it was also astringent. This was killing her.
It was simply too awful. Sure enough, pretty things could not be eaten.
Bai Tang immediately moved far away from the fruit. Her mouth felt terrible. The bitter taste would not go away. Had the little villain known this fruit tasted bad and bought it for her on purpose? She had traded her tears for this.
Bai Tang now felt like a huge fool. She had even thought she would taste it first, then save it to eat at night. Now she felt like she was stupid beyond belief.
Lan Ji saw her pained expression. It was very cute, but she still wanted to laugh.
Xiao Xinyue crouched in front of her. “Isn’t this what you wanted?”
Bai Tang stuck out her bitter, astringent tongue. Was Xiao Xinyue here to mock her?
Xiao Xinyue said, “Idiot.”
Bai Tang felt as if another stab had been added.
Eating such a fruit was already miserable enough, yet she was still being scolded.
Xiao Xinyue continued, “You have to finish it. Otherwise, no dinner for a week.”
Bai Tang suffered another ten-thousand-point critical hit.
Unhappy, she bared her teeth at Xiao Xinyue.
Xiao Xinyue reached out her hand, and Bai Tang instinctively bit down on it.
She froze for a moment, her blue pupils becoming dazed.
The sweetness in her mouth washed away the bitterness.
What the little villain was holding was candy.
