Chapter 29
Outside the VIP ward.
“Are her injuries serious?”
As soon as Ye Xinuo heard that Han Qiuzi had been injured and admitted to the hospital, she immediately called Yu Qing and went to the hospital with her.
Han Qiuzi’s special assistant, Li Qing, answered, “A mild concussion. She hasn’t woken up yet. Her wrist bone was dislocated and has already been fixed with a splint.”
“What happened?” Ye Xinuo frowned.
“President Han went to inspect an express delivery station and encountered employees making trouble. Someone somehow drew everyone’s attention to President Han, and several employees came up and started pushing and shoving. Although the bodyguards stepped forward in time to block them, during the struggle, President Han lost her footing and fell down the stairs.”
It was another company’s business, so Ye Xinuo could not ask too much. She could only ask, “Then can we go in and see Qiuzi now?”
Li Qing hesitated for a moment, then answered, “All right,” while opening the ward door.
Yu Qing’s thoughts had long since flown inside, but out of courtesy, she could only follow behind Ye Xinuo and slowly walk in as if nothing were wrong.
Han Qiuzi lay on the hospital bed with her brows slightly furrowed. Her right arm had been splinted and bandaged, and she kept muttering something, but unless one pressed an ear close, nothing could be heard.
Ye Xinuo knew that at this moment, Yu Qing must want to see Han Qiuzi alone, so she found an excuse and called Li Qing outside to talk.
Yu Qing had no attention to spare for anything else. As soon as she heard the door open, she quickly stepped forward. Her fingertips carefully touched Han Qiuzi’s shoulder, trembling uncontrollably.
Han Qiuzi’s mouth was still opening and closing. Yu Qing leaned over and pressed her ear to the other woman’s lips.
“Ah Qing, I’m hungry. Is the food not ready yet?”
“I want water. It’s too cold outside. Get up and pour me some water!”
“Ah Qing, look, it’s snowing!”
“You said once the first snow finished falling, we’d go home. Why did you suddenly not want me anymore?”
“Ah Qing, I’m hungry…”
Han Qiuzi kept repeating these few sentences.
Without warning, tears streamed from Yu Qing’s eyes, dripping onto Han Qiuzi’s face and sliding down along its curves.
Yu Qing immediately wiped away the tear streaks on Han Qiuzi’s face in a fluster, but more and more beads were slipping from her own eyes.
She hurriedly turned her back and wiped away the endless tears with her hands, trying hard to control her emotions.
Fortunately, no one came in during that time. Five minutes later, Yu Qing finally sniffed, let out a breath, and turned back around to face Han Qiuzi.
The heartache and attachment in her eyes could no longer be hidden. They all fell onto Han Qiuzi’s face. She forgot time, forgot space; in her eyes, there was only the figure of one person.
Suddenly, Yu Qing bent down, closed her eyes, and pressed a kiss onto Han Qiuzi’s slightly parted lips. When she opened her eyes and was about to pull back, the person beneath her also opened her eyes, her pupils filled with surprise and joy.
The two looked at each other without any barrier for a few seconds. Yu Qing worked hard to hide the panic in her eyes, straightened up as if nothing had happened, and said in a slightly hoarse voice, “Nuonuo has something to discuss with your assistant. She’ll be back soon.”
“Ah Qing, were you kissing me just now?” Han Qiuzi licked her lips, her expression full of lingering satisfaction, without the slightest self-awareness of someone who should feel embarrassed.
“The doctor said you have a concussion, so I’m afraid you’re hallucinating. I didn’t kiss you.” Yu Qing’s face was extremely calm, without the slightest trace of a lie.
Han Qiuzi: “…” Just what kind of image did she have in Yu Qing’s heart? Did she look that easy to fool?
“I came with Nuonuo. Since you’re awake, I’ll go out and tell her so she can come in and greet you. She has other arrangements later.” No matter how well Yu Qing pretended, her words were still somewhat incoherent. “Rest properly. Don’t move your hand around. I’ll leave first. I still have things to do later.”
“Aiya!”
Yu Qing had just reached the door when she heard Han Qiuzi cry out in surprise. She turned back to look and saw the person on the bed gasping in pain, her features twisted together.
“What happened?” Yu Qing nervously ran back to the bedside.
“I was anxious just now and lifted my hand.”
Han Qiuzi bit her lower lip and took quite a while to recover before whining softly, “It hurts.”
“I told you not to move around!” Yu Qing scolded. “Where does it hurt? I’ll call the doctor over to take a look.”
“Don’t go. Stay with me for a while and it won’t hurt anymore.” Han Qiuzi grabbed Yu Qing with her other hand and looked at her hopefully. “Blow on it for me?”
Hearing this, Yu Qing knew Han Qiuzi had deliberately hurt herself. She felt angry and sour inside, but in the end, she still sat down on the chair beside the bed, carefully leaned over, and blew a few breaths over Han Qiuzi’s right arm.
Then she lifted her eyes and asked, “Does it still hurt?”
“It hurts.” Han Qiuzi’s eyes held sorrow that could not be dissolved. “I dreamed of you just now, and my heart hurts so much.”
In the same hospital.
Qin Moyan walked into an ordinary ward. The hospital’s distinctive smell could not exactly be called unpleasant, but it made her very uncomfortable.
The person on the hospital bed was called Gao Wei, a supervisor at Litong Express under Han Group.
Qin Moyan’s gaze fell on Gao Wei, and she asked with concern, “Where were you injured?”
“It’s nothing serious. Just a fractured leg.” Gao Wei revealed a bashful smile. “I look pretty sturdy, but my bones are so fragile. It really makes people laugh.”
Qin Moyan said faintly, “Then you need to be even more careful while recovering. Otherwise, if it leaves some lingering problem, people will laugh even more.”
“You, either you don’t speak, or the moment you do, you choke people to death.” Gao Wei smiled and shook his head.
Qin Moyan remembered something and looked around. “Where’s Sister-in-law?”
“She’s at home cooking for the kid. I’ll just hire a caregiver.” Gao Wei’s eyes were full of tenderness. “My daughter has exams soon. I don’t want her to be distracted.”
Qin Moyan nodded. “That’s fine. Caregivers are more professional when taking care of people anyway.”
“When other people hear what I just said, they’d all praise me with ‘a father’s love is like a mountain.’ How come when it gets to you, you don’t feel moved at all?”
Gao Wei understood Qin Moyan’s personality, so this sentence was only a joke.
“That’s called optimized resource allocation.” Qin Moyan answered very seriously. “A caregiver’s profession is taking care of patients. For both you and Sister-in-law, it saves a lot of trouble. At the same time, it reduces external interference for Xiaohui. It can only be called a correct decision. What is there to be moved about?”
“Yes, yes, yes. Everything Yanyan says is right.” Gao Wei nodded cooperatively.
Only then did Qin Moyan ask, “What happened at Litong?”
“Aren’t we going to cooperate with Dingfeng Express? The company has to undergo reforms. In my view, it actually isn’t a bad thing, but quite a few couriers must have been incited by something. They became emotionally agitated one after another, resisted the reforms, and even went on strike and demonstrated.” Gao Wei took a sip of water before continuing, “Today, President Han happened to come for an inspection, and several troublemaking employees triggered a violent conflict. I wasn’t the only one injured. A few small supervisors were also beaten by employees. President Han seems to have fallen down the stairs too.”
Hearing this, Qin Moyan’s eyes took on the particular depth they showed when she was thinking.
