Chapter 23
As soon as Ye Xinuo walked out of her office, she saw Tang Jie walking toward her with smiling eyes. Come to think of it, ever since that board meeting last time, she had not seen Tang Jie for two weeks.
“Good morning, Little Yezi.” Tang Jie’s tone was very kind, showing not the slightest sign that anything unpleasant had ever happened between them.
“Good morning, Uncle Tang.” Ye Xinuo also smiled with perfect friendliness, as if she had never laid her cards on the table with Tang Jie.
“If you don’t have anything to do right now, would you do Uncle Tang the honor of chatting for a bit?”
“Of course. Uncle Tang, please.” Ye Xinuo turned and opened the office door.
When Secretary Vivian saw Tang Jie go inside, she immediately put down the work in her hands and got up to prepare green tea for the people inside. She remembered the preferences of all the company’s senior executives clearly.
Tang Jie swirled the cup in his hand and spoke after some thought. “Nuonuo, are you interested in discussing a business deal with me?”
Ye Xinuo smiled. “As long as it can make money and doesn’t break the law, what’s not possible?”
Tang Jie revealed the same knowing smile.
“Brother Sheng once invested in a small company called Nuofan Power Supply. It has never made any money. Why don’t you transfer the shares to me? I know you’re very short on money right now.”
Ye Xinuo’s smile grew even brighter. “Uncle Tang, what you just said was wrong. This is negotiating a sale with me, not discussing business.”
“Hahaha, Uncle Tang is old. I can’t compare with you young people who like to split hairs over words.”
“Although Nuofan Power Supply has suffered severe losses over the past few quarters, it is still something Dad left me. How could I bear to sell it?” Ye Xinuo’s expression was full of remembrance for her father.
Tang Jie said, “Nuonuo, you need to look farther ahead. A loss-making company is a burden to you. Why hold on to it?”
“Uncle Tang’s guidance is extremely reasonable. One must look farther ahead.” Ye Xinuo nodded in agreement. “Since you said this is discussing business, only mutual exchange and cooperation can be called business. Why don’t we be fair? Uncle Tang can bring out the electric vehicle production license in your hands, and we can achieve mutual benefit and a win-win outcome. How does that sound?”
Tang Jie’s expression froze for an instant.
In his impression, Ye Xinuo had always been a tender little sprout protected very well by Ye Qisheng, someone he could control with no effort at all. Now, it seemed that was not the case.
Ye Xinuo had proposed cooperation not simply to make Tang Jie run into a wall. The government was currently vigorously supporting new-energy electric vehicle projects. Yesheng had always been focused on the internet industry and naturally had no spare energy to split off into other fields. Meanwhile, Tang Jie’s company outside had already obtained the first batch of production qualifications.
At present, there were not many power supply manufacturers capable of producing batteries for cars, and Nuofan was one of them. It was precisely because this company pursued excellence so relentlessly that its losses were also severe. If it could get a foothold in the new-energy vehicle field, the situation could be reversed.
Although she hated Tang Jie, she had also learned to sleep on brushwood and taste gall.
The silence in the room did not last long. Tang Jie pushed up the gold-rimmed glasses on the bridge of his nose.
“It seems that next time, we should change to a more formal occasion.”
“Xinuo is still young. In the future, I’ll still need Uncle Tang to support and guide me more.” Ye Xinuo curved her brows and eyes.
After Tang Jie left, Ye Xinuo hid her smile and got up to go to the Xmate product development department.
When she arrived, the people in the product department had just finished a meeting and were walking out of the conference room one after another. Seeing Ye Xinuo, they all greeted her respectfully. The senior executives could look down on Ye Xinuo, but lower-level employees like them did not dare disrespect the big boss.
When Ye Xinuo entered the office, Product Director Wang Ze had just taken off his glasses and was rubbing his face with his hand.
“I’ve long heard of President Wang’s great name. Today, I finally have the honor of meeting you.”
Wang Ze put on his glasses and looked her up and down with a frown. “President Ye, is there something you need from this sudden visit?”
Ye Xinuo did not care at all about Wang Ze’s impatient attitude and continued smiling. “Since you call me President Ye, then I naturally have the responsibility to understand the progress of all the company’s projects.”
Wang Ze’s face darkened. “My ideas do not align with Yesheng’s. I’ll submit my resignation later. Since this product has reached this point, however it is ruined in the future will have nothing to do with me. President Ye, please find someone more capable.”
“Many media outlets praised President Wang for having outstanding product thinking. I thought President Wang must have extraordinary ability, but now it seems you amount to nothing more than this.”
Ye Xinuo gave a mocking laugh. “Even if Director Hao withheld the funds for the product development department, what remains is still enough to support the project’s progress. The mobile payment subsidy funds have been waiting outside the door for a week, yet your core department’s project has not made the slightest progress. Even the product logic doesn’t make sense. Whose incompetence is that?”
Wang Ze was somewhat stunned. Everyone in the company said the new president was a little girl who understood nothing, but now she was not quite the same as he had imagined.
Ye Xinuo continued, “When Xmate first launched, it was Yesheng’s proudest product, and President Wang’s contribution was immense. But President Wang should also understand that the internet industry competes on speed. Now, other companies have already begun swarming into online communication software. How long can President Wang’s pride last? To give up your own product because of factional disputes—President Wang truly disappoints me.”
“President Ye makes it sound easy. I’m only someone who works on products. I can’t thrive like a fish in water in such a dangerous environment as Yesheng. If these words are meant to provoke me, then there’s no need to waste your effort.”
“Google in Silicon Valley is famously unplanned and freewheeling. If I remember correctly, President Wang came from there. I wonder if you miss that feeling?” Ye Xinuo paused. “How far a product can go depends on the genes it was born with. How far Xmate can go depends on your genes, not Yesheng’s genes. President Wang is a smart man. You should know what I’m saying. Is this the result you want?”
“Admiration, admiration.” After hearing Ye Xinuo’s words, Wang Ze’s expression changed. He cupped his fists in a very jianghu-like manner. “I believe President Ye also knows that many people in the company say you are a vase born with a golden spoon in your mouth, and that Yesheng’s days are numbered. Today, I, Wang, have truly broadened my horizons.”
Ye Xinuo raised the corners of her lips in satisfaction. “Everyone understands the principle that opportunity and risk coexist. What I need is a team that charges forward in the internet field without hesitation. Yesheng only wants a social app that can replace text messages and small change wallets. Budget and user feedback are not within President Wang’s scope of consideration. One week from now, I hope Xmate can complete its iteration.”
Wang Ze also revealed a long-lost smile. “President Ye, don’t worry. Your promise plus my brain means this product is destined not to be ordinary.”
Ye Xinuo stood up and left Wang Ze with one final sentence. “Those who accomplish great things should not take the gains and losses before their eyes too seriously. I hope President Wang does not forget his original intention.”
Wang Ze leaned back against his chair, his gaze lingering on the conference room door for a long time.
A little girl possessing such insight and courage—even he fell far short of her. She truly was not simple.
Yu Qing parked the car and walked into the café where she had arranged to meet Ye Xinuo, only to unexpectedly meet a familiar gaze head-on.
She pressed down the agitation in her heart. Her gaze did not linger long as she walked straight to the innermost table and sat opposite Ye Xinuo.
Ye Xinuo finished the last bite of the sandwich in her hand, picked up a tissue, and wiped her mouth. “This is still my first meal today. I’m starving.”
Yu Qing withdrew her gaze, which had unconsciously drifted elsewhere, and scolded, “You. It’s already three in the afternoon, and you’re solving it with a sandwich again. I really can’t be bothered to lecture you.”
