Chapter 20
“Come in,” Ye Xinuo answered.
When she saw that the person pushing the door open was Qin Moyan, Ye Xinuo felt both surprised and, at the same time, as if it were within expectation.
Qin Moyan nodded to the two people in the room, closed the door, and walked to the bedside.
Ye Xinuo smiled faintly. “Did Director Qin also hear that I was about to die, so you came to confirm it?”
“The chairwoman has caused such big news. As a director, it is only right that I come visit.” Qin Moyan did not avoid the matter either. In front of Han Qiuzi, she handed Ye Xinuo an exquisitely wrapped box. “This is a small gift for Miss Ye. I wish you a speedy recovery.”
Before Ye Xinuo could even open her mouth, Qin Moyan nodded in farewell, pushed the door open, and left in one smooth motion.
Han Qiuzi was someone who knew how to read the room. She immediately said, “Since you’re fine, I’ll head back first. Please say hello to Yu Qing for me.”
“All right.”
Ye Xinuo was also very curious about what was inside the gift box. As soon as Han Qiuzi left, she began unwrapping it.
Inside the box was a USB flash drive.
She picked up the phone beside her and asked the secretary to bring over a laptop.
Not long after, Yu Qing returned after finishing her phone call and saw that Ye Xinuo seemed to have fallen into deep thought.
Ye Xinuo stared blankly at the ceiling.
The contents of the USB drive were evidence that Chen Rui, the current president of Zheshang Bank, had participated in insider trading. It was definitely a bomb powerful enough to cause massive damage.
In her previous life, Tang Jie had used Chen Rui to guarantee a loan and injected a large amount of funds into the stock market, which was how he had raised Yesheng’s stock price again.
Did Qin Moyan give this to her because she wanted her to use it to threaten Chen Rui and cut off Tang Jie’s path? Or perhaps she should make good use of it and personally go meet President Chen.
If this had happened in the past, Ye Xinuo would definitely have exposed Chen Rui’s crimes directly and insisted on the so-called justice in her heart. But after experiencing so many rises and falls, Ye Xinuo would no longer make that kind of decision. Allowing Yesheng’s stock price to keep falling would cause thousands upon thousands of shareholders to lose everything, and might even destroy many originally happy families.
The most urgent task was to stabilize Yesheng’s stock price.
But what exactly was Qin Moyan’s intention in sending her such a generous gift?
Ye Xinuo did not believe that the other party simply wanted to help her. Qin Moyan must have some scheme. But what she wanted, and what she was plotting, Ye Xinuo had no clue.
About fifteen minutes later, when Yu Qing saw Ye Xinuo emerge from her thoughts, she asked, “Han Qiuzi left?”
“Mm. She asked me to tell you.”
“Oh.”
Ye Xinuo smiled mischievously. “Sister Yu Qing looks a little disappointed. Could it be because she didn’t personally say goodbye to you?”
“You’re so young. What are you thinking about all day?” Yu Qing’s gaze drifted elsewhere. “I’m not even close to her.”
“I was just joking. Why are you so worked up, Sister Yu Qing?” Ye Xinuo looked confused and wronged, pretending so convincingly it seemed real.
“I’m going back to the company. You hurry up and rest.” Yu Qing chose to ignore Ye Xinuo.
In the end, Ye Xinuo submitted to Yu Qing’s tyrannical authority and stayed in the hospital for three days of IV drips, though she herself did not remain idle.
Before Ye Xinuo was discharged, Yu Qing had already released Yesheng’s current operating status, hoping to use it to strengthen shareholder confidence and stabilize their emotions. But at the same time, negative news about Yesheng kept breaking out one after another. In just three short days, the stock market began selling off Yesheng shares in large quantities.
On the same day Ye Xinuo received the USB drive, she called President Chen. By the time she was discharged, President Chen’s side had also given a clear reply and arranged to meet with Ye Xinuo for a discussion.
“President Chen has cooperated with Yesheng for more than ten years, hasn’t he? I heard you and my father were once friends who got along rather well. The other day, on a whim, I looked through the company’s loan records and discovered that President Chen is truly fair and selfless.”
Ye Xinuo sat across from Chen Rui, her brows and eyes smiling, yet the words she spoke were cold and chilling.
“How is it that starting from last year, my father could no longer get any money approved from you? Was it because President Chen wanted to avoid suspicion, so you deliberately only cooperated with Uncle Tang?”
Before the meeting, Chen Rui had thought Ye Xinuo was just a little girl. He had assumed he could coax her a bit and get back the thing in her possession. But the aura she had right now actually made even him, a man over forty, feel intimidated.
He drank a sip of water and forced himself to stay calm. “President Ye, you did not participate in company operations in the past after all. There are many twists and turns here that a child would not understand. My friendship with your father has always been very good, but business is business and private matters are private—”
“Yes, yes. When it comes to running a company, how could I show off my poor skills before an expert?” Ye Xinuo nodded. “Young people nowadays like to sit together, gossip, and show off. I heard President Chen’s son just changed to a new sports car a few days ago. In my opinion, President Chen really is a model parent. That sports car must be worth two years of your income.”
President Chen’s expression remained unchanged. “Haha, that child doesn’t need me to worry about him. He likes trading stocks. Boys are like that. Once they earn some money, they spend it all on cars.”
“Then I should learn more from your son. I always lose money when I trade stocks myself. Which securities company does he use again?” Ye Xinuo touched the space between her brows, then seemed to remember. “Ah, Jinfeng Securities. Only, I didn’t know this securities company also transfers money to clients through offshore companies.”
Chen Rui’s expression changed. He had not expected Ye Xinuo to have found out about his son as well.
“It would be a little lonely to let President Chen go to prison alone. A father and son reunion wouldn’t be bad, would it?”
Ye Xinuo lightly tapped the tabletop with her fingertips, and several beads of sweat seeped from Chen Rui’s forehead.
Ye Xinuo stopped there. “Husband and wife are birds of the same forest, yet when disaster comes, each flies away. As long as President Chen withdraws in time, you will still be the good president of Zheshang Bank.”
Chen Rui wiped the sweat from his forehead and understood. “I approved loans for Tang Jie entirely out of consideration for Yesheng. As the saying goes, it’s easy to enjoy the shade under a big tree. President Ye is now the helmswoman of Yesheng. Between you and Tang Jie, it is obvious who I should choose.”
Ye Xinuo received a satisfactory answer, arranged another time with President Chen to sign the loan documents, and gave him a note with a safe deposit box number and password written on it.
She was not worried that Chen Rui would go back on his word. Anyone who could sit in his position was not a fool.
In truth, Ye Xinuo had never sent anyone to investigate Chen Rui’s son. She only knew that Chen Rui’s son was fond of gambling, and she had also happened to hear about his boastful remarks at a party some time ago.
Her words just now had been a gamble. If she guessed correctly, it would be a grand prize. If she guessed wrong, she still had the contents of the USB drive as a fallback.
This probing had truly brought quite a harvest. Following this lead to obtain another hold over Chen Rui would only be a matter of time.
She did not only want to cut off Tang Jie’s path this time. She also wanted to block his future paths. Although Zheshang was not the only bank, not every bank had such tacit understanding with him. Other banks would naturally have other competitors to restrain him.
After Ye Xinuo left the room, she was also covered in cold sweat. No matter what, Chen Rui was an old hand twenty years older than her. If she had revealed even the slightest flaw, all her efforts might have been wasted.
When Yu Qing saw Ye Xinuo come out, she immediately rushed over anxiously, her expression serious. “Nuonuo, several directors at the company suddenly jointly proposed holding an emergency board meeting. It starts in twenty minutes. They’re clearly coming with bad intentions. If we’re late, the situation may turn unfavorable.”
Ye Xinuo glanced at her watch. It was rush hour.
As she walked out, she said, “Let’s go. We’ll take the subway.”
