A Cannon Fodder A Has No Intention of Moving Up - Chapter 26
Assistant Lu left after dropping Lin Yue off at the hotel.
The sky had already darkened by the time the hotel suite door opened again. Lin Yue, sitting on the sofa, looked up and saw An Muxue.
The movie star, returning late, leaned over at the entrance and slowly slipped off her high heels. The lights from the hallway backlit her silhouette, highlighting her slender waist and long legs. The scene felt strangely like a scene where an honest, stay-at-home husband had finally waited for his late-returning wife to come home.
Even though An Muxue was the one playing the role of the late-returning wife, the first thing she did upon seeing Lin Yue was pout and question her.
“Where did you go at the film set today?”
Lin Yue looked at her and didn’t answer immediately. Instead, she stood up, walked over, and stood very close to her.
An Muxue’s face suddenly flushed. Although Lin Yue tried to be subtle, she had clearly just… sniffed her, hadn’t she?
Was she checking her for scents? Because she had gone out with another Alpha? If they had done anything, a scent would definitely linger. Was Lin Yue jealous?
An Muxue’s heart raced as she looked at Lin Yue. The more she looked, the more she felt that Lin Yue was quieter than usual, appearing somewhat unhappy. An Muxue couldn’t help but play out a scenario in her mind.
If Lin Yue were to beg her in a moment not to go on dates with Shu Yan anymore, what should she say? For some reason, this thought made the corners of An Muxue’s mouth curl up, and a tingly, numb sensation filled her chest. Even though they were only in a “medical relationship,” it was normal for an Alpha and Omega to become possessive of each other due to the close intermingling of their pheromones.
An Muxue felt she should first express understanding of Lin Yue’s request. However, unfortunately, her dating Shu Yan was entirely a business move, and they weren’t a real couple. She would definitely have to prioritize her career and reject Lin Yue. But she would also make sure to soothe Lin Yue’s emotions… to compensate her.
Having finished her mental rehearsal, An Muxue felt she was truly a clear-headed, powerful woman who wouldn’t let emotions trip her up.
Then Lin Yue spoke: “I just wanted to be by myself for a while.”
An Muxue: “?”
It took her a few seconds to realize Lin Yue was answering her earlier question. She immediately frowned. “You can’t be by yourself.”
Lin Yue was stunned. “I can’t?”
“No. You have to stay by my side.”
The moment the words left her mouth, An Muxue realized she wasn’t always by Lin Yue’s side herself, but she maintained her double standard and huffed twice. “From now on, you have to tell me before you go anywhere.”
Lin Yue was confused. “Do I really have to tell you?”
“Why wouldn’t you?” Where could she possibly be sneaking off to? An Muxue took a step forward, nearly pushing Lin Yue back onto the sofa. “I-I am your boss. What if I need you and you’re not there? What then?”
Lin Yue thought about it and finally gave a reluctant nod.
However, she felt that An Muxue’s condition had improved significantly lately. Surely another emergency wouldn’t occur? Nowadays, the floral scent only needed a little guidance to release continuously, feeling much more active than before. It’s just that… she seemed a bit too clingy.
For instance, right now. It was Lin Yue who was being guided by the floral scent, taking a dazed step backward. Countless flower branches wrapped tightly around her, acting spoiled and nuzzling her, greedily drawing the sandalwood scent out from the back of her neck. Even if Lin Yue wanted to stop, she probably wouldn’t succeed immediately.
This was the suppression of a high-grade over a low-grade. Much like the beautiful, elite, high-born An Muxue compared to her, an ordinary person.
Lin Yue estimated, “You should be mostly recovered by now…”
Hearing this, An Muxue raised an eyebrow. “I don’t feel that way at all…”
Her illness was clearly still there and needed treatment. It was fine during the day, but now that she saw Lin Yue… An Muxue swallowed and proactively hooked her arms around Lin Yue’s neck, falling back onto the sofa with her.
Soft hair fell across Lin Yue’s face. She became even more certain: there wasn’t a trace of another person’s pheromones on An Muxue. Her relationship with Shu Yan hadn’t progressed at all.
But it should be soon. By her count, they had been here for over a month. The two of them would likely start their variety show shortly after returning home. She hoped the cure would be complete by then…
“Mnh.”
An Muxue’s face quickly turned red. Was Lin Yue still a bit angry today? An Muxue couldn’t help but wonder, her body feeling even more tingly and weak.
The public reaction to An Muxue and Shu Yan’s pairing was excellent—even better than expected. Next, they just needed to monitor the public opinion and give it a little nudge.
What An Muxue didn’t understand was why Shu Yan showed up at her film set again a week later. Lin Yue didn’t understand either. Why is she here again?
“Was once not enough? You have to film twice?”
“Of course. If we’re going to put on a show, we have to do it right.” Facing the question, Shu Yan leaned close to An Muxue’s ear, winked, and gave a casual explanation.
But the person who claimed they had to “do it right” vanished shortly after An Muxue started filming. Instead of watching An Muxue perform, she wandered around the set like a social butterfly, greeting everyone, until she finally found a certain small Alpha buried in a dressing room like a hiding ostrich.
“Pfft, are you hiding from me on purpose?” Shu Yan poked her head in and was immediately amused.
“…No.” Lin Yue slowly lowered the book she was holding up in front of her face. Her words came out one by one.
Shu Yan was wearing a form-fitting dress today, which was rare. Even with a jacket over it, she looked both handsome and beautiful. She was tall with a great figure and legs like a supermodel; when she blinked, the beauty mark by her eye added an inevitable touch of allure.
“How are you liking your stay in San Diego?”
Lin Yue: “?”
Shu Yan was simply too eye-catching. Standing there, anyone passing by outside would look at her. So, Shu Yan naturally walked in, closed the door, and sat down in front of Lin Yue.
“For example, have you run into any difficulties? Anything I can help you with?”
Lin Yue’s whole body was tensed. This was An Muxue’s dressing room; the two of them had… released a lot of pheromones here. Shu Yan shouldn’t be here. Lin Yue’s mind was a mess, and she could only cast an increasingly confused look at Shu Yan. She wasn’t good at small talk, and she definitely didn’t understand why she was saying this.
This was all because, back at the seaside, An Muxue had said the reason people might dislike her was because she was “too Alpha.” How was that a flaw? But An Muxue explained she was a bit too dominant and self-centered, likely failing to consider the other person’s feelings.
Though Shu Yan didn’t quite agree, she was happy to try a different approach. What could be more considerate than asking directly?
“That pose you taught me was very effective, so I don’t mind doing something for you in return,” Shu Yan explained with a smile.
Is that so… Lin Yue looked at her for a moment. “If I help you, you’ll help me?”
“Of course. I’m a big believer in reciprocity.” Shu Yan watched Lin Yue lower her eyes in thought. Her eyes were clear, her skin translucent and pale, and she was clutching that book from who-knows-where. She felt more and more like Lin Yue was a well-behaved student. She suddenly understood a little bit why An Muxue said being “too Alpha” could be annoying. There were Alphas like Lin Yue with gentle temperaments and cute features who didn’t seem…
Lin Yue suddenly looked up and asked seriously, “Then, is there anything else I can help you with?”
Shu Yan: “What?”
“I want to keep helping you.”
Shu Yan was stunned. This girl seemed to always be able to surprise her. “You want to keep helping me,” she repeated involuntarily.
Lin Yue nodded.
Shu Yan laughed. She stood up, brushing her hair back with a smile. “I haven’t thought of anything yet. So, how about we exchange contact info first?”
Seeing the iPhone held out in front of her, Lin Yue hesitated but eventually agreed. She didn’t want to spend more time with Shu Yan, of course, but if she could do more for her now… maybe when Shu Yan found out she had treated An Muxue, it would offset some of the anger. Maybe she wouldn’t do something as extreme as locking her in a mental hospital.
Right after they added each other, Lin Yue’s phone rang. It was An Muxue.
Lin Yue immediately said to Shu Yan, “You should go out now.”
“Mhm?” Shu Yan blinked.
“An Muxue finished her scene. She’s looking for you.”
Oh, right. She was here for business. Shu Yan went out, but then felt a bit puzzled. Wait, how did she know An Muxue was looking for me?
Once she was out, Lin Yue answered the phone.
“Lin Yue!” An Muxue’s voice sounded unhappy. She really didn’t understand; it was one thing for Shu Yan to disappear, but why had Lin Yue disappeared too? Hadn’t she said she wanted to see her and that she had to be told before going anywhere?
Lin Yue explained, “I’m just in the dressing room.”
An Muxue paused. Did she mean she knew I was almost done and was waiting for me there? Thinking of their silent understanding regarding their secret kisses in the dressing room, her small spark of anger subsided.
Before she could say she was heading over, Lin Yue added, “I saw Shu Yan go to look for you.”
“Oh, right…” An Muxue’s mood dampened again. Shu Yan was here today. She had wanted to go to the dressing room to see Lin Yue, but she ran straight into Shu Yan coming out. Forget it; work was more important.
She could only say into the phone: “We can’t eat together today. Have Assistant Lu take you back tonight.”
Lin Yue said: “Okay.”
Since Shu Yan was already there, An Muxue had to go out with her, intending to return the favor for the last meal.
After Shu Yan got in the car, she glanced at her phone and saw Lin Yue had replied to her message. She had given her name. Lin Yue.
Shu Yan’s lips quirked up. “The method you mentioned seems to be working.”
An Muxue looked completely bewildered. What method did I mention?
