A Cannon Fodder A Has No Intention of Moving Up - Chapter 27
It took An Muxue a long moment to recall, her eyebrows shooting up in surprise.
“What’s this? You’ve actually found someone you’re interested in?”
Shu Yan looked at her.
“Not quite. I just feel like I’ve made a new, very interesting friend.”
“Alright then.” An Muxue didn’t pay it much mind.
She still remembered a young girl who once hung out with Shu Yan for a few days, thinking they were the best of friends in the world, only to discover later that Shu Yan treated everyone with roughly the same attitude. The girl had ended up crying and calling her a “scumbag.”
Shu Yan usually seemed gentle and approachable, but in reality, she cared most about herself. When her interest was piqued, she could talk to you for a whole day, but by the next, she’d have forgotten and moved on to something else. People she truly held in her heart were few and far between—at least, An Muxue had never met one.
This so-called “friend” was likely no different.
Lin Yue had been very distressed lately.
She didn’t understand why the Lead, Shu Yan, kept sending her messages. She had assumed that adding her on WeChat was just so Shu Yan could call her if something came up, but every time she opened what Shu Yan sent…
She couldn’t make heads or tails of it.
【Look, my grandfather lied to me using this inkstone from the Qianlong era just to get me to practice calligraphy. My handwriting is decent now, right?】
Attached was a photo of her luxury desk, a rare inkstone, and excellent calligraphy. Of course, it also featured her beautiful, slender hand wearing prayer beads and holding a brush.
…
【When I was a kid, I talked my dad into using the budget for a yacht to protect this coral reef instead. I went to see them last month; they’re still doing great!】
Followed by a video of her diving with agile movements.
…
【Look, these are the Alaskan glaciers I took photos of from a helicopter.】
…
【Once on a whim, I went to paint oils right after an event while still in haute couture. I ended up ruining a limited-edition dress. The brand chewed me out in private, but after it went viral, they had to publicly thank me.】

Lin Yue tapped through her phone with a bewildered expression. She could only try to reply in the shortest ways possible, like “Mhm” or “It’s pretty.”
But even if she didn’t expand the conversation, Shu Yan’s rich life experiences seemed enough to sustain this one-sided sharing, and she seemed to enjoy it immensely. Lin Yue tried leaving her on read for longer periods, only for the other party to send messages… even more frequently?
Shu Yan even said that chatting with her was “very comfortable”! Apparently, other people always misunderstood her for “flexing,” but this was actually just her daily life!
Lin Yue: “…” She had no comment and was completely baffled.
After a week of this, she finally decided to be direct.
【Shu Yan, do you really have something you need my help with?】
【I do.】 Shu Yan replied quickly. 【I have something I need your help with very soon.】
Lin Yue finally let out a sigh of relief, wanting to resolve this as quickly as possible.
【When?】
Shu Yan laughed. 【Aren’t you even going to ask what it is?】
“Lin Yue.”
An Muxue had just finished her shower. Wearing a thin white nightgown, she sat directly on Lin Yue’s lap.
“What are you looking at?”
Her body was warm, carrying the damp mist of the shower. Her skin was like snow, and her dark hair was still dripping. Though she looked like an angel, her expression was a bit haughty—her delicate nose was wrinkled in a look of dissatisfaction.
“Why does it seem like you’re spending more time on your phone lately?”
When she came out of the bathroom just now, Lin Yue didn’t even look at her! Was she reading again? How could books be more important than her?
As she spoke, she didn’t hesitate to snatch the phone away and toss it to the side. Lin Yue was stunned.
As An Muxue sat on her, leaning in close brought a wave of body wash fragrance, and her chest was the first thing to make contact. Lin Yue’s earlobes turned red, and she tried to shift her focus.
“An Muxue… can I take a leave of absence this weekend?”
An Muxue: “Huh?” What did she mean, “leave of absence”?
“Meaning I won’t stay at the set. I want to… walk around the area.”
An Muxue said dismissively, “I’ll take you around once we’re done filming.” The plan for the crew to film here was almost finished. Actually, her birthday was coming up. Since it was Lin Yue’s first time here, An Muxue had considered staying for a few extra days after the shoot to take Lin Yue on a proper tour.
Lin Yue shook her head. “My vacation is almost over. And it’s not good for the two of us to appear in public together.”
An Muxue was about to ask why, but then she remembered the assistant telling her how easy it was to be photographed. She frowned. Personally, she didn’t care much, but since she was currently “shipping” with Shu Yan for publicity, if a problem arose on her end, it might actually be bad for the collaboration.
An Muxue sighed, once again feeling that this collaboration was a bit of a hassle. It was normal for Lin Yue to want to see the sights, but what was the fun in going alone?
She looked at Lin Yue suspiciously. Surely she wasn’t going alone? And she used the word “leave of absence,” as if staying by her side was strictly work.
“…” Well, it was work.
The young lady thought it over and couldn’t find any real fault with Lin Yue, but she still got off her lap huffily.
“Fine, take your leave. Why don’t you take leave for today too?”
Lin Yue didn’t understand. “Why today?” It was already night.
“If you took leave, you wouldn’t have to watch me take this dress off.”
“…”
Seeing Lin Yue stay silent, An Muxue’s face turned red. “It’s really been hard on you lately, hasn’t it!”
Lin Yue grabbed her, pulling her back into her lap. An Muxue huffed twice, appearing very dissatisfied, but she didn’t try to stand up again.
“Weren’t you taking leave?”
Lin Yue: “No.”
“I see you hate kissing me. Then don’t do it.”
“I don’t…”
Lin Yue kissed her. An Muxue closed her eyes as they kissed, finally unable to speak. Her complexion quickly turned rosy, a small sound escaped her nose, and her body pressed tight against Lin Yue. The thin fabric tightened below her waist due to her subconscious movements, bunching up at her slender waist.
But Lin Yue delayed removing the bothersome fabric.
“Lin Yue…”
She bit her lip in dissatisfaction. She had just showered and was wearing so little, yet Lin Yue was just kissing her… giving her the sandalwood scent and nothing else. She wanted to be more proactive, to give a clearer hint, but she immediately checked herself.
No, Lin Yue wanted to take leave. I’m not going to beg her.
But after kissing for quite a while, An Muxue was starting to find it unbearable, yet Lin Yue showed no intention…
Stupid Alpha.
The corners of An Muxue’s eyes were red. It had to be on purpose; it wasn’t like this before. She thought back for a moment and suddenly realized: the only part Lin Yue ever initiated was kissing and providing pheromones. She would make her hot, make her soft, and then…
Wait! Was it me who grabbed her hand every time? Was I the proactive one every single time?!
“!” At the thought, An Muxue’s face turned even redder.
“I don’t want to kiss anymore.” She pushed her away huffily.
Lin Yue looked at her with a red face but simply nodded. “Mhm. Okay.”
“???”
Lin Yue was actually satisfied with just that and soon held her, preparing to sleep. An Muxue was completely stunned. But she still… she pressed her legs together, her earlobes turning red, tossing and turning, unable to sleep at all.
To be teased like this… she turned around, wanting to bite Lin Yue, only to find that Lin Yue had peacefully closed her eyes and was already asleep.
An Muxue: “??” She was actually asleep.
In Lin Yue’s view, her most important duty was giving An Muxue pheromones. Being intimate with her before was only to relieve her heat symptoms. Since An Muxue stopped requesting it, the symptoms must have finally vanished. Her glands were recovering better and better.
Lin Yue naturally wouldn’t take the initiative; that would be too disrespectful. Consequently, she had no idea An Muxue was being petulant. An Muxue decided she had to wait until Lin Yue begged her first.
Lin Yue is my therapist—can’t she see that I have this, uh, ‘treatment’ need?
She wanted Lin Yue to be proactive just once. And it had to be the kind where she hugged her waist with teary eyes, nuzzled against her with red ears, and stayed pressed to her ear like a puppy… kissing and begging her all at once.
The more she wanted to see Lin Yue like that, the harder it was for her to endure.
A few days passed like this. Everyone on set could tell An Muxue’s mood had soured. When the day of the “leave of absence” arrived, An Muxue was even more unhappy. She stared at Lin Yue for a long time, but after thinking it over, she couldn’t find a reason to refuse. Finally, she could only pout and say:
“You must be back before I finish filming.”
Lin Yue nodded and agreed, thinking it wouldn’t be a problem.
Unexpectedly, after they met, Shu Yan took her to a rather high-end bar. It wasn’t during business hours, so it was empty.
“This is my friend’s bar. I’m hosting a charity gala soon,” Shu Yan explained with a smile. Her earrings and even the subtle patterns on her shirt sparkled under the bar lights. “To encourage donations, I’ve agreed to personally mix some drinks.” Such charity galas usually have a gimmick; the money spent on drinks is actually the donation. “Help me taste these and see how they are. I really don’t want to embarrass myself.”
Lin Yue finally felt a hint of regret for not asking what the task was beforehand. “But I really can’t drink.”
Shu Yan assumed that when Lin Yue said she “couldn’t drink,” she meant she didn’t know how to “taste” it—to describe how many layers of flavor the drink had. Still smiling brightly, she invited Lin Yue to sit at the bar and began demonstrating her newly learned mixology skills.
“It’s fine. Just think of yourself as my guest and give me your most direct feedback. Which of these do you prefer?”
Lin Yue leaned her forehead against her hand in distress. Since she had already come out, she really wanted to help Shu Yan. She decided to take a sip, thinking one small sip should be fine.
But after that, she found herself having to take another sip, because she truly… truly couldn’t tell the difference.
Shu Yan had thought a couple of drinks would soothe the nerves, help her relax, and allow her to spend the afternoon with Lin Yue. She hadn’t expected Lin Yue to quickly slump onto the table in silence.
Shu Yan: “Eh? Lin Yue?”
She leaned in, incredulous. Her finger touched Lin Yue’s slightly warm cheek. “Are you… are you asleep?”
Lin Yue slowly opened her eyes, but they were clearly vacant. Shu Yan couldn’t help but burst out laughing. So she really couldn’t drink at all!
Though she didn’t understand why, everything about Lin Yue—even the fact that she was a “one-glass knockout”—felt incredibly surprising and interesting to her.
She pulled her up. “It’s fine. Go up to the room and have a nap before you head back.”
Lin Yue thought blearily: I’ll just… just close my eyes for a tiny bit. I’ll leave as soon as I wake up.
