After Losing My Memory, I Was Targeted by the Obsessive Movie Queen [gl] - Chapter 36
“I dreamed… that I kissed you.”
Yan He’s seductive, sleep-laden voice drifted softly into Lu Youqing’s ears like the flutter of a butterfly’s wings, tugging at her heartstrings. Lu Youqing lowered her gaze to look at Yan He, feeling her entire being soaked in the sweetness of that sentence.
“Kissed me?” In Lu Youqing’s eyes, light and shadow flickered like shards of ice. The beauty mark at the corner of her eye looked as if it had been kissed by an angel, appearing more captivating than ever.
Yan He tilted her head, lightly nuzzling Lu Youqing’s porcelain-white neck, her hands gently encircling the other woman’s body. This was the first time she had been so proactive in relying on Lu Youqing, and Lu Youqing savored it immensely. She raised her hand to stroke Yan He’s hair, speaking in a doting tone as if coaxing a child.
“Can you tell me… how you kissed me?”
With her eyes misty from sleep, Yan He looked very much like she did in high school. Lu Youqing couldn’t help but recall the time right after they graduated. Back then, shortly after they had officially established their relationship, Yan He had a fight with her mother and stayed at Lu Youqing’s house every day. In those days, Yan He was just as dependent on her; the couple in the honeymoon phase was like two pieces of sticky nougat, unwilling to be pulled apart.
Lu Youqing loved that period—the time when she could spend all day with Yan He, a time when Yan He had only her.
Even though there were many times later when Yan He had to rely on her out of necessity, there was never another time like that—where Yan He relied on her so purely without Lu Youqing having to do anything at all.
“I just dreamed of some things from high school. In the dream, you had a fever. I went to see you, and we kissed.” Yan He spoke concisely. Though her consciousness was still a bit hazy, she instinctively glossed over the part where she had fled in embarrassment.
Her hot breath fanned across Lu Youqing’s ear, like the dancing toes of a graceful girl leaping upon porcelain skin. Lu Youqing felt half her body go numb and couldn’t help but shrug her shoulder.
“Is that all?” She lightly kissed the top of Yan He’s head, her gaze as gentle as water, hiding an unfathomable depth of love.
Yan He shook her head. “There were some other trivial high school things, but I can’t remember them clearly now that I’m awake.” If the shock of kissing Lu Youqing hadn’t been so great, she might have forgotten that too. The soft sensation from her memory seemed to cross time and space to land on Yan He’s lips. She instinctively pursed them, the tips of her ears turning red.
Lu Youqing’s suspended heart finally settled. Her heart was like a calm lake, rippled by Yan He’s words.
So it was just that. Fortunately, she hadn’t dreamed of other things. Calculating the timeline, there was a long gap between these high school events and their university years. Yan He shouldn’t dream of those bad things in the short term. She let out a long, internal sigh of relief.
“I see.” A smile played on Lu Youqing’s lips; she wanted to tease the “puppy” who had just woken up. “Then does A-He know about how you ran away in embarrassment after we kissed?” Her voice was sexy and ambiguous, the end of her sentence hooked like a barb, pulling at Yan He’s pounding heartstrings. Yan He didn’t speak; she closed her eyes to steady her racing heart.
Lu Youqing’s soft chuckle echoed in her ear like a successful little fox. Yan He’s downturned mouth couldn’t help but curve upward as well.
“What time is it? How long did I sleep?” Yan He looked through the window, which was partially obscured by the curtains. The sky outside was already somewhat dim.
“Three in the afternoon. The weather in Wucheng hasn’t been great lately; it’s been overcast.” Lu Youqing explained. “You must be hungry. I’ll have Lin Le bring up some food.” As she spoke, she picked up her phone and called Lin Le while still holding Yan He, seemingly finding nothing wrong with their posture.
Once the arrangements were made over the phone, the two finally released their embrace. Lu Youqing went to wash up, while Yan He went to organize her luggage.
According to Yan He’s plan, she intended to stay in Wucheng for at least two or three months. On one hand, she wanted to accompany Lu Youqing; on the other, she wanted to explore the city where she grew up to see if it would help her recover more memories.
Even if she didn’t stay here at the hotel, she would find a place nearby so she could see Lu Youqing easily. Not yet sure if she would be staying in this room, she only took out a few clothes, making sure to shove those “two items” from her backpack deep into her suitcase so Lu Youqing wouldn’t see them.
Once she finished organizing, about ten minutes had passed. Yan He heard a knock at the door. Lu Youqing’s voice drifted out from behind the frosted glass of the bathroom:
“That should be Lin Le.”
Yan He stood up, pulled her bathrobe tight, and tied the belt securely. She tucked her hair out of the collar, put on her slippers, and walked to the door, turning the handle to open it.
A cold draft rushed in. Yan He looked up and saw a person she didn’t recognize at all. The person stared back at her, stunned. Yan He’s consciousness snapped wide awake, and a chill ran down her spine. She stiffly turned her gaze and saw Lin Le standing beside the stranger, looking equally frozen.
What is going on?
Two minutes earlier, outside the hotel, Lin Le walked in carrying several bags of food. She headed straight for the elevator. While waiting, she suddenly heard someone calling her name from behind.
“Lin Le, what a coincidence!” It was a staff member from the crew. She looked at the bags in Lin Le’s hands. “Is Teacher Lu in the hotel? The director is looking for her but couldn’t get through on her phone, so she sent me to find her.”
Lin Le nodded. “Sister Lu just called me to bring some food up. She probably missed the director’s messages.”
The staff member beamed. “That’s great! Let’s go up together then.”
Just then, the elevator doors opened, and the two went up together. The silence in the small elevator was a bit awkward, so the staff member pulled at her clothes and initiated a conversation.
“How is Teacher Lu’s injury?”
“It’s okay. After the hospital treatment, it’s much better. Sister Lu said she can resume filming normally tomorrow.”
“Teacher Lu is truly a model of professionalism in the industry,” the staff member sighed. “We were all worried sick in the group chat.”
Lin Le raised an eyebrow. “Group chat?”
“Oh, it’s just our private staff group. We were terrified when Teacher Lu got hurt. Many people thought they were about to lose their jobs, but Teacher Lu didn’t blame anyone. She’s truly… who could help but fall in love with her?”
The staff member chattered away as the elevator reached their floor. When they arrived at Lu Youqing’s suite, Lin Le, with both hands full of food, asked the staff member to knock. After three nervous knocks, Lin Le’s gaze suddenly fell on the two-person meal in her hands, and her eyes widened in realization.
“Wait a second!” She tried to stop the staff member, but it was too late. The handle turned, the door opened from the inside, and Yan He—wearing nothing but a bathrobe—was face-to-face with the two people outside.
The scene turned incredibly awkward. Yan He looked at Lin Le, then at the completely unknown staff member. Her mind went blank.
“Miss… Miss Yan.” Lin Le was the first to snap out of it. She hurried to speak: “This is a crew member. They came to talk to Sister Lu about tomorrow’s shooting schedule.”
Yan He recovered quickly as well. Composing herself, she cleared her throat. “Hello.”
The staff member was still dazed, her gaze fixed on the bathrobe Yan He was wearing. Hearing Yan He’s voice, she finally regained some awareness. “H-hello. Is Teacher Lu in?”
“Is that Lin Le?” Lu Youqing’s voice suddenly came from behind. The attention of all three was drawn toward her, only to freeze simultaneously once again.
Lu Youqing was wearing a bathrobe identical to Yan He’s. It was tied loosely, revealing a large expanse of her front. Her porcelain skin glowed under the lights. She was tilting her head, drying her damp hair with a towel. A few wet strands clung to her cheeks, making her face look exceptionally pure and breathtaking. She looked toward the door with drooping eyes—she and Yan He looked exactly like a deeply-in-love couple living together.
Seeing the three of them frozen, Lu Youqing gave a faint smile. “Come in. Give me a moment.” She turned and went back into the bedroom.
Since Sister Lu had given the order, Lin Le had no choice but to lead the staff member inside. Yan He’s hands gripped the edge of her bathrobe so tightly her knuckles were nearly white.
Lu Youqing changed very quickly. Shortly after the three sat down, she emerged wearing very comfortable pajamas—long sleeves and pants that gave her a more domestic feel.
Lu Youqing was a walking clothes hanger; anything she wore looked like it belonged on a mannequin in a display window. However, Yan He thought it would have been better if Lu Youqing hadn’t chosen the specific pajamas she had just put into the closet—Yan He’s pajamas.
There were plenty of Lu Youqing’s own pajamas in the closet, yet she deliberately chose one she hadn’t seen before. It was obvious what she was trying to do. Yan He covered her face and let out a helpless internal sigh.
Lu Youqing came out holding her phone, scrolling with one hand. She sat down naturally beside Yan He. “Did Director Wen send you?”
The staff member sat bolt upright, so serious she was almost trembling. Her gaze darted between Lu Youqing and Yan He, and seeing the two pairs of chopsticks on the table, she felt she had discovered something monumental.
Hearing Lu Youqing’s question, she straightened her back. “Yes, Director Wen. She said she couldn’t get through to your phone, so she asked me to come tell you about tomorrow’s arrangements.”
Lu Youqing looked at her apologetically. “My phone was on silent. I’m sorry to make you make the trip. Thank you.”
The staff member shook her head frantically. “No, no! Not at all! As long as you know.”
“Um, I’ll head out now.” Having delivered the message, the staff member thanked them and left, not forgetting to steal one last gossipy glance at Yan He as she walked out.
Yan He: “…”
After the staff member left, Lin Le also stood up to say goodbye. Once Lin Le was gone, the room was left with just the two of them. Yan He stared at the marble tabletop in a daze, until a pair of chopsticks appeared in her peripheral vision.
“Eat. Aren’t you hungry?” Lu Youqing watched her with curved brows, showing no sign of worry.
Yan He couldn’t help but ask, “Will they talk?”
“Talk about what? Our relationship?” Lu Youqing picked up some food and placed it in Yan He’s bowl. Her tone suggested she wasn’t worried about the relationship leaking at all.
In fact, Lu Youqing wasn’t worried; she actually wanted everyone to know. If it hadn’t been for Yan He saying she didn’t want the relationship publicized, Lu Youqing wouldn’t have held back until now. Her paranoid possessiveness made her wish the whole world knew Yan He was hers and hers alone.
“It’s okay. They won’t talk loosely.” Seeing Yan He’s drooping eyes, Lu Youqing finally hid her darker intentions and comforted her.
“And even if they do, so what? We can just not acknowledge it. The hotel surveillance is with the director, and without proof, the internet won’t believe it.” She spoke with such conviction that it calmed Yan He’s heart, but also birthed a hint of sadness.
Yan He felt conflicted. On one hand, she was glad the relationship wouldn’t be exposed; on the other, she was sad that it wouldn’t be. She was happy Lu Youqing wouldn’t face public scrutiny or harm her career, but sad that their relationship remained known only to the two of them.
“A-He, are you really worried they’ll talk?” Seeing Yan He’s still-frowning expression, Lu Youqing somehow found a bit more courage. Like a queen enticing Snow White with a poisoned apple, she parted her thin lips and breathed out an alluring suggestion.
“Or… should we just let nature take its course? Neither stopping nor encouraging it. Let the netizens guess and slowly come to accept it.”
