After Losing My Memory, I Was Targeted by the Obsessive Movie Queen [gl] - Chapter 40
“Is A-He jealous?”
Yan He froze mid-motion, her heart giving a sharp tug. She was holding an open bottle of mineral water in her other hand, and as she faltered, the water overflowed, splashing onto her and Lu Youqing’s fingers. The cold sting snapped her back to her senses. She knit her brows, set the thermos down, and pulled out a tissue to gently wipe Lu Youqing’s hand, her tone sounding natural.
“No.”
Lu Youqing savored her meticulous care, looking up at Yan He. She used her free hand to lightly pat Yan He’s cheek before stroking the tip of her ear. She stood up, her tone solemn yet laced with a touch of seduction, her dark brows slightly arched. “Lying isn’t for good girls, you know. Besides, A-He, whatever you’re thinking is written all over your face.”
The tips of Yan He’s ears burned under her playful touch. She frowned slightly and turned her head away to avoid Lu Youqing’s hand.
“I’ll go boil some more water for you,” she said, hurrying away from the scene.
Lu Youqing looked down at the hand that had just touched Yan He. The warmth of that earlobe seemed to linger on her fingertips. She clenched her fist, pressing her fingertips into her palm to etch that warmth into her heart.
By the time Yan He returned, filming for a new scene had already begun. She set the hot water aside and sat down to watch the production in silence. Her mind was a jumbled mess, tangled in Lu Youqing’s words and regret for her own hasty retreat. Feeling a bit hot, she took off her scarf and set it aside.
Lost in her thoughts about Lu Youqing, she didn’t notice the increasing number of gazes falling on her. By the time she realized it, Lu Youqing had finished all her scenes for the day and was walking toward her. Seeing Yan He look over, Lu Youqing didn’t forget to curve her lips and offer a smile.
Yan He quickly picked up the down jacket and walked over. As Lu Youqing put it on, her face—stiff from the cold—couldn’t help but break into a smile upon seeing Yan He. “Work is over for today. Let’s head back quickly.” With that, she familiarly hooked her arm through Yan He’s and pulled her toward the trailer.
The weather was freezing, the wind biting. Lu Youqing’s body was still shivering, so she leaned into Yan He’s embrace to steal some warmth. She didn’t seem to care that their proximity far exceeded the safety distance between a boss and an employee. They had agreed to let people guess, but now Lu Youqing was practically laying the answer out in front of them; subtle gazes followed the two of them the entire way.
Yan He frowned, but not because of the onlookers. All her attention was on Lu Youqing. Lu Youqing was icy to the touch; even the down jacket couldn’t block the deep chill radiating from her. Yan He’s heart felt numb with concern. She said nothing, but silently quickened her pace to block the wind for her.
After changing and leaving the trailer, Lu Youqing had drunk some hot water and wasn’t shivering as much. She and Yan He walked out of the studio side-by-side, followed by Lin Le, who was successfully making her presence invisible.
“It’s so cold today,” Yan He remarked, looking at the perpetually overcast sky.
Late autumn was getting colder by the day. In the evening, one could see their breath in the air. Luckily, Lu Youqing’s shoot was finished; if there had been a night scene, Yan He couldn’t imagine how cold she would have been. She would have caught a cold for sure.
“It’s not cold as long as I’m holding A-He’s hand,” Lu Youqing said leisurely. As the crowds thinned outside the studio, she boldly reached out and interlaced her fingers with Yan He’s. The shadow of her long lashes fell into her eyes, shimmering with starlight-like affection.
Yan He gave her a look, then turned back to the path. She wordlessly tucked their joined hands into her own coat pocket. Lu Youqing turned her head, feeling the warmth, and squeezed Yan He’s hand tight.
The cold was a fact, but with A-He by her side—with Yan He draping warm clothes over her after every take, asking softly what she needed, and holding her hand to give her warmth—a fire of sincere, burning devotion blazed in Lu Youqing’s heart, feeling as if it would never go out.
She smiled to herself. She truly loved the time spent with A-He. In some moments, she even wished the work would never end, just so her A-He would stay here with her, taking such gentle care of her.
This was an obsession that the Lu Youqing of a few months ago wouldn’t have dared to dream of, yet it had been completely changed by a car accident and a bout of amnesia.
Deep down, Lu Youqing loved this life. But the happier she became, the more she felt it could vanish into thin air at any moment. This current beauty felt like the calm before a storm. She feared the day Yan He’s memory returned more and more; she could only hope that their time together would make A-He fall in love with her all over again.
Lu Youqing exhaled a long breath, squeezing Yan He’s hand to suppress the churning unease and wandering thoughts.
The car arranged by the crew was parked outside. Yan He let Lu Youqing get in first. As she moved to the other side to open the door, Lu Youqing suddenly caught her wrist. She turned back, puzzled.
Lu Youqing’s eyes curved. she beckoned Yan He to lean in. Yan He obediently leaned down. Just as she was about to ask what was wrong, Lu Youqing reached out and lightly patted Yan He’s cheek, her tone doting.
“A-He was so good today. So obedient. Such a good A-He.”
Yan He dazed for a few seconds, then couldn’t help but smile back. She raised her hand to hold the one Lu Youqing had on her cheek. Although she didn’t know why she was suddenly being praised, she responded anyway.
“Okay. Then I’ll keep working hard.”
Lu Youqing broke into an even more delighted smile.
The car took them straight to the hotel. They took the elevator up, and the first thing Yan He did was urge Lu Youqing to take a hot shower. “You’ll freeze if you don’t.”
“Hurry up and wash.” The temperature inside the suite was comfortable. They hung their heavy coats on the rack at the entryway. Lu Youqing was wearing a cream-colored, tight-fitting turtleneck sweater that accentuated her slender figure. Yan He took her hand, swinging it slightly like she was acting spoiled. Their interactions were increasingly like a couple in the honeymoon phase, and Lu Youqing’s weight in Yan He’s heart had grown to a point that could no longer be ignored.
Treated this way by the person she loved, anyone would lose their resolve. Lu Youqing made sure to steal a kiss from Yan He before taking her clothes into the bathroom.
Yan He, with a smile on her lips, listened to the sound of the shower. Satisfied, she set about her duties as an “assistant.” She figured she should handle dinner, so she opened her phone to find nearby restaurants. Having familiarized herself with Lu Youqing’s likes and dislikes before coming, ordering was a breeze.
Just as she was about to exit the app, a trending topic notification popped up. She intended to swipe it away, but her eyes caught the headline, and her heart skipped a beat.
#Lu Youqing’s “Mysterious Girlfriend” on Set#
Yan He froze. Her finger moved uncontrollably to click it. The hotel Wi-Fi was fast; in an instant, she saw a paparazzi exposé.
[During the filming of Lu Youqing’s new movie “Sister,” a mysterious woman suddenly appeared by her side, suspected to be her mysterious girlfriend.]
The whistleblower had thoughtfully attached several photos and a video. One photo was of her closing the door to Lu Youqing’s trailer at noon.
The video showed the conversation by the car from just a moment ago. It was shot from an elevated angle. From that perspective, though the audio was missing, one could clearly see Lu Youqing patting her cheek with a doting smile and Yan He holding her hand.
She hadn’t been wearing her scarf then, so her face was fully visible in both the photos and the video. Although the distance was far and it was a side profile, her body proportions and facial silhouette were clear enough to recognize.
Lu Youqing was looking at her with such tenderness that it radiated through the screen. More than a boss and employee, they looked like a couple deep in love. Those paparazzi certainly had some photography skills.
Yan He looked at the comments. Sure enough, in just thirty minutes, the section had exploded.
[Don’t believe it. Lu Youqing only cares about filming. How could she have time for a relationship? Marketing accounts, stop chasing clout.]
[What is this nonsense? That’s clearly a boss and staff. The assistant is right there; it’s not like they’re alone. Nothing to see here (eye roll). Also, this is a film set; if she really had a girlfriend, she wouldn’t bring her there with so many people around.]
[That girl in the black coat is actually really pretty. Even though it’s blurry, they look strangely good together. I can’t stop smiling. I know it’s probably not real, but ahhhh, I have to ship it!]
[Say what you want, but the look in Lu Youqing’s eyes in that video is anything but “innocent.” And that cheek-patting? Totally screams “couple in love.” I’m shipping this.]
[One minute. I want all the info on the woman in the black coat. She’s gorgeous! Is she a minor celebrity?]
…
[Honestly, is this just hype for the new movie? Annoying.]
Yan He scrolled for a long time. Most were either skeptical or thought they looked good together, treating it like a “fun snack” rather than a real scoop. Very few people truly believed they were a couple. The small minority of negative comments were buried under the praise, meaning Xue Yi’s PR guidance was working.
Yan He “liked” a few comments about how they looked like a couple, then heard Lu Youqing’s footsteps in the bedroom. She turned off her phone and stood up. she saw Lu Youqing tilting her head while drying her hair.
The light fell on her, giving her a faint glow. Lu Youqing looked up, her dark eyes reflecting shards of light, appearing clear and bright. No matter how many times she saw it, Yan He was always dazed by this heart-stopping beauty.
A breeze seemed to blow through Yan He’s heart. She stood at the door staring at Lu Youqing until Lu Youqing gave her a puzzled look. Only then did she set her phone down, walk over, and take the hairdryer. She ran her fingers through Lu Youqing’s hair, drying it gently.
Lu Youqing sat obediently, feeling the gentle touch. She couldn’t help but smile.
“What is it?” Yan He looked down to meet her eyes. The shadow of her long lashes looked like a scattering of stars.
Lu Youqing’s smile deepened, her eyes overflowing with a thick, intense love. “I just feel… that life right now is so happy.”
Yan He didn’t quite grasp the weight of those words, assuming the past two days of meeting had just made Lu Youqing sentimental.
“You’re happy just from this? Just how bad was our relationship before then?” She intended to tease Lu Youqing, not giving the comment much thought and forgetting it as soon as she said it.
But she didn’t get a playful response. She looked down and saw Lu Youqing staring at her thoughtfully, her beautiful brows knit slightly.
“What’s wrong? What are you thinking?” Yan He asked, continuing to dry her hair.
Lu Youqing looked up at her. Her fingers at her side gripped the chair until her knuckles turned white.
“A-He,” she said.
“Once I have some time off, let’s go visit the school where we lived together.”
