After Losing My Memory, I Was Targeted by the Obsessive Movie Queen [gl] - Chapter 39
The coldness radiating from Lu Youqing as Yan He held her was palpable; her fingertips were icy and she was shivering. Her face, pale from the freezing wind, now bore a smile simply because Yan He had appeared, as if she no longer felt the cold at all.
Yan He frowned. Looking at Lu Youqing’s still-trembling body and her thin clothes fluttering in the wind, she instinctively pulled the down jacket tighter around the other woman.
Noticing curious glances from others on the set, Yan He let out a deep sigh. Fearing her presence might bring unnecessary gossip upon Lu Youqing, she released the hand she was holding.
“Fine. I’ll wait for you nearby,” she said. Her tone was stern, yet it carried a trace of tenderness.
As the warmth left her palm, Lu Youqing’s hand was once again filled with the biting wind. She lowered her hand, suppressing the urge to lean in and kiss Yan He, and nodded.
“I knew A-He was the best. I’ll finish filming very quickly.”
Yan He retreated to a safe distance, holding the down jacket. Meeting Lin Le’s somewhat shocked gaze, she gave a slight nod in greeting. As the director shouted “Action!”, the filming resumed.
The set was silent. The recording equipment faithfully captured every sound. Lin Le looked at Yan He, who was watching the scene intently; she noticed Yan He’s hands gripping the jacket tightly, her brows knit together, her entire body rigid with tension.
Miss Yan has been like this since she arrived, Lin Le thought. Luckily, Yan He hadn’t come a few days ago. This scene was manageable; if she had seen Lu Youqing jumping directly into a freezing lake in this weather as she did before, who knows how heartbroken Yan He would be.
Lin Le sighed inwardly and turned her attention back to Lu Youqing’s performance.
“Cut! Perfect! Wrap it up and let’s get lunch!” At the director’s command, a black figure rushed to Lu Youqing’s side and draped the warm down jacket over her.
Before Lu Youqing could even fully detach herself from the heavy emotions of the scene, she was enveloped in warmth. As the cold met the heat, she couldn’t help but shiver, her lashes fluttering over eyes that shimmered like broken jade.
“Let’s go.” Yan He shielded her waist with one hand and held the jacket closed with the other to keep it from slipping. Lu Youqing leaned into her contentedly, a smile gracing her lips as she allowed herself to be led away.
Lin Le watched the two of them, glanced at the crowded set, and quickly hurried over.
“This way.” She pointed the way, naturally assuming the role of guide. The three of them walked to Lu Youqing’s resting trailer.
Lin Le opened the door, and the two hurried inside. Standing at the entrance, Lin Le said, “I’ll go get CEO Lu’s lunch,” then closed the door and left.
Left alone in the trailer, Yan He immediately felt the heat. Her frozen face regained some color. She started to release her hold on Lu Youqing, but a pair of icy hands pressed down on hers.
“Cold.” Lu Youqing still leaned half against her shoulder, looking at her with a hint of a pout. Her voice was trembling. Taking advantage of Yan He’s momentary daze, her cold fingers slid between Yan He’s, interlacing them tightly.
Helpless, Yan He could only maintain the posture, half-supporting her as they sat on a nearby chair. She tucked the hand she was holding into her own coat pocket to share her warmth.
Yan He reached for a cup on the table, poured some hot water with one hand, and handed it to Lu Youqing.
“Drink some water, quickly.”
Lu Youqing took the cup and sipped slowly. As the hot water slid down her throat, her shivering finally stopped. She set the cup down, looked up at Yan He’s still-frowning, dazed face, and spoke.
“A-He, are you angry?”
Yan He blinked, glanced at her, and sat up straight. “No. Why would I be angry?”
Lu Youqing set the water cup down and reached out to lightly touch Yan He’s knit brows. “If you’re not angry, why are you frowning? It doesn’t look good at all.”
The touch on her brow was a bit ticklish. Yan He looked at her and sighed softly. “I’m really not angry.” She pressed the cup back into Lu Youqing’s hands. “Drink more. It’s too cold; falling ill would be miserable.”
She watched as Lu Youqing obediently finished the water, then finally relaxed a little. She poured another cup and handed it over. Looking out at the bleak autumn wind, the knot in her heart felt like it was rolling into a larger snowball.
Truthfully, she wasn’t angry. Seeing Lu Youqing having to wear such thin clothes in this weather mostly made her heart ache. But this was Lu Youqing’s job; the only thing she could do was wrap her in a jacket the moment the cameras stopped.
Still, the feeling was hard to shake. When Lu Youqing finished the second cup, Yan He instinctively went to pour more, but Lu Youqing stopped her.
“If I drink any more, I’ll be full before I’ve even eaten,” Lu Youqing said helplessly.
Yan He gave up. The temperature in the trailer had risen, so she took off her heavy coat, revealing a solid-colored sweatshirt beneath. She raised a hand to brush her long hair back; during the movement, the jade bracelet on her wrist reflected a faint green glow.
Lu Youqing’s gaze locked onto the bracelet. It felt as if warm sugar water had been poured into her heart, generating waves of warmth. Her body, just beginning to recover, was flooded with a burning affection. She reached out to hold Yan He’s wrist, her fingertips gently stroking the pale green jade, a smile overflowing from her lips.
“A-He is so good.”
Because of the requirements of filming, Lu Youqing wasn’t wearing hers. But whenever she attended events or shows, she never took it off—to the point where netizens had begun to speculate about its significance. It could be said that whenever fans saw that bracelet, they thought of her. Today, A-He had worn hers to come find her.
How can she be so sweet? Lu Youqing wondered if she could take this to mean that A-He, just like her, wanted everyone to know about their relationship.
Wearing the bracelet she had prayed over for her, telling everyone implicitly under their very gazes: She belongs to Lu Youqing.
Lu Youqing’s extreme possessiveness was satisfied. She smiled, gripping Yan He’s hand and interlacing their fingers once more. Her lashes fluttered as she couldn’t resist planting a kiss on the back of Yan He’s hand.
“The bracelet suits you perfectly. It’s beautiful,” she praised sincerely.
Seeing the bracelet noticed, Yan He turned her head shyly. “I saw it, so I just put it on. Since it was for good luck, I figured it would bring some.”
“Then did A-He have good luck today?” Lu Youqing’s voice softened into a pout as she smiled. She was no longer cold, yet she clung to Yan He, her head resting on Yan He’s shoulder as if she were bone-less.
Yan He smiled softly. “I always have good luck.”
She felt that every day was lucky simply because Lu Youqing was in it.
The staff meals took a while to be distributed, so Lin Le used the downtime to check her phone. The employee group chat was already at 99+ messages.
Last night, she realized that the situation between Lu Youqing and Yan He might leak, so she had hurriedly registered a secondary account to lurk in the private staff chat. As expected, they were talking about Lu Youqing and Yan He.
[The person with Teacher Lu today looks very unfamiliar. Has anyone seen her before?]
[She’s so pretty! Her face is so small. She looks to be about the same age as Teacher Lu. Even though the scarf covered half her face, her eyes and nose are stunning. Is she a new assistant?]
[Didn’t someone say yesterday that there was a mysterious woman in a bathrobe in Teacher Lu’s hotel suite? It’s her, right?! I saw Teacher Lu talking very closely with her during a break. It looked like Teacher Lu even kissed the back of her hand, but I might have misseen.]
[No way, really? I thought that was made up. This is huge news!]
[If it’s true and it leaks, it’s going straight to the trending topics. I’m calling it now.]
[Impossible! Stop guessing. Just because someone says they saw it doesn’t make it true. She’s definitely a new assistant! Teacher Lu would never be in a relationship!]
Lin Le’s brow furrowed. Her heart grew heavier with every message. She felt she needed to report this to Lu Youqing and Xue Yi immediately. As she was skimming through the chat, someone tapped her on the shoulder. She spun around, quickly locking her phone.
“Your lunch boxes.” A staff member in a cap set the meals down. “This is for Teacher Lu, this is yours, and this one is…” The staff member looked a bit puzzled.
Lin Le spoke up quickly, “It’s for the other assistant.” She took the boxes and thanked him.
“So, that person with Teacher Lu today… she’s also an assistant?” The staff member couldn’t contain his curiosity and asked directly.
Lin Le swallowed and kept a straight face. “Yes. I was a bit too busy on my own, so Sister Lu hired another assistant to help me out.”
The staff member hadn’t expected it to actually be an assistant. He blurted out, “Then last night—”
“What about last night?” Lin Le stared at him, her brows knit in a precursor to annoyance. The staff member realized he had overstepped and shut his mouth.
“Nothing.”
Lin Le: “Is there anything else? Sister Lu is waiting. If not, I’ll be going.” She turned and left. Once she was away from the crowd, she let out a long breath and sprinted toward Lu Youqing’s trailer.
Before reaching the door, she made sure to knock, wanting to avoid walking in on anything she shouldn’t see.
The door opened, and Yan He’s cool face appeared. Lin Le nodded her thanks and walked in with the lunch boxes.
Yan He looked out at the cold weather and sighed inwardly, worried about the afternoon shoot. As she was about to close the door, she suddenly noticed a faint flash of light in the distance. The light vanished in an instant. She froze, then quickly closed the trailer door.
Inside, Lu Youqing had put on a less bulky jacket and was helping Yan He open the lunch boxes.
The catering for this crew was decent; the staff got drumsticks and a meat dish every day—large portions and filling.
Yan He smelled the food, and her frown slowly relaxed. Recalling the plan she and Lu Youqing had discussed last night, her heart settled a little. She turned to sit down, only to find Lu Youqing staring blankly at Lin Le’s phone.
She walked over, her peripheral vision catching the content on the screen. It looked like a chat log. Lu Youqing was scrolling through it very quickly, the screen a blur of text. She only managed to catch a few words:
[Teacher Lu… kept woman…]
