I Turned Out To Be The Paranoid Villain’s White Moonlight - Chapter 13
It was already very late by the time the two of them arrived at the villa.
Zhan Yao was woken in a daze and soon returned to her bedroom to change out of her gown. She was unbearably sleepy tonight and planned to take only a quick shower before crawling into bed.
“I just had a dream.” To keep herself awake for the moment, Zhan Yao decided to chat with the system.
“What kind of dream?” the system quickly asked.
Zhan Yao pursed her lips. Even though it had only been a dream, she still found it shocking. “I dreamed that Yu Wanqiao warmed my feet for me.”
“That would be going way too far, even for an act.” She yawned softly, showering while barely keeping her eyes open. “If she could really do something like that, she’d be an even bigger drama queen than me. I’d have to call her the master.”
The system fell silent for several seconds before replying, “Then call her that.”
Zhan Yao: “?”
“She really did that?” Zhan Yao asked, her voice filled with disbelief.
“Of course,” the system replied. “Even I was startled. And you have no idea—the way she warmed your feet and every look she gave you… I wouldn’t believe anyone who said you weren’t a sweet little couple madly in love.”
“I’d like to ask where she studied acting,” the system continued. “If I could learn even a little from her, it wouldn’t be so difficult to act pitiful in front of my superior whenever I apply for a raise.”
Zhan Yao: “…”
The moment salary came up, the system’s thoughts clearly wandered off-topic. Zhan Yao failed to get any useful answer from it and knew better than to rely on it, so she gave up.
After quickly finishing her shower, Zhan Yao returned to bed. The moment she lay down, two messages appeared.
Yu Wanqiao: 【Something has come up at the company tomorrow. I’ll try to return as early as possible, but I wanted to let you know that you don’t need to wait for me at dinner.】
Yu Wanqiao: 【Rest well. Good night, Yaoyao.】
Perhaps influenced by what the system had said, Zhan Yao instinctively imagined the expression Yu Wanqiao might be wearing behind the phone. For a brief moment, curiosity spread through her mind.
She wondered whether Yu Wanqiao was still acting now, in the dead of night when she was all alone.
“…”
The night quickly passed. As usual, Zhan Yao slept soundly.
Today was Monday. Yu Wanqiao had left early in the morning, while Zhan Yao did not have many classes and was in no hurry. She got out of bed with a yawn, gave herself a complete skincare and haircare routine, then leisurely sat at the dining table and ate breakfast before finally setting off for the university.
She drove the new car Yu Wanqiao had given her.
“Miss Zhan, allow me to drive you,” the villa’s driver offered before she left.
“There’s no need.” Zhan Yao casually put on her sunglasses.
What a joke. She had not even finished enjoying her new car yet. How could she let someone else drive it first?
“I’m leaving.”
She stepped on the accelerator and sped far into the distance in the blink of an eye. However, before long, she drove back again and called out to the housekeeper.
“Housekeeper Yang.”
“Is there anything else, Miss Zhan?” Housekeeper Yang asked.
“I forgot to ask. Will the custom mahjong table I ordered arrive today?”
“I confirmed it this morning,” Housekeeper Yang quickly replied. “It will.”
“Good.” Zhan Yao nodded and drove away again in satisfaction.
She soon arrived at the university.
Many people looked in her direction along the way. A luxury car and a beautiful woman would always draw attention. Once Zhan Yao had enjoyed showing off enough, she parked the car in a nearby lot.
She had only just entered the university gates when she unexpectedly ran into someone.
“Yaoyao!”
It was a girl from her class. Zhan Yao glanced over and quickly recognized her.
Her name was Cheng Yu. Her background was similar to Xu Yingxi’s, and she was also a wealthy heiress, but she was a far better person in every possible way. She was cheerful and outgoing, loved making friends, and enjoyed running all over the place.
There was one other thing—she loved running away from home.
Cheng Yu’s parents had had her late in life and had spoiled her endlessly since childhood. They had accidentally pampered her into a willful, unreasonable little fool who made a scene every so often.
She had become acquainted with the original Zhan Yao when she happened to run away from home and hid in a restaurant, refusing to return. The original Zhan Yao had coincidentally been working there for several months.
Although the original Zhan Yao had been introverted, she was ultimately no match for the outgoing Cheng Yu. After several encounters, they became friends.
Cheng Yu’s bodyguards had not accompanied her today.
To be precise, they were hiding not far away.
Zhan Yao glanced in their direction and immediately understood.
“You ran away from home again?”
“How did you know?” Cheng Yu asked with a grin.
“What was the reason this time?”
“They wanted to take me to a dinner banquet hosted by one of our relatives,” Cheng Yu said. “But I hate that relative and refused to go no matter what. We started arguing while we talked.”
“How many days are you planning to stay away this time?” Zhan Yao asked.
“I don’t know,” Cheng Yu replied. “Until I spend all my money, I suppose.”
“My mother packed my luggage, and my father threw me a bank card and told me to return once I’d finished making trouble. I don’t care. I’m staying away until the end of time.”
As she spoke, her bodyguard was still secretly peeking out from behind a tree.
…And you call this running away from home?
Zhan Yao shook her head and patted Cheng Yu’s shoulder. It was not until they reached the academic building that she suddenly remembered something.
“Do you know how to play mahjong?”
“Of course.” Cheng Yu nodded.
Zhan Yao immediately smiled. “Then I’ll find you a good place to stay tonight.”
That evening, Zhan Yao drove Cheng Yu home with her.
Cheng Yu had spent money like water since childhood and had little concept of its value. Even so, she was still thoroughly shocked when she saw Zhan Yao’s new car and the villa where she lived.
“Did you win the lottery?” Cheng Yu asked. “Or did you suddenly discover that you aren’t an ordinary person after all, but the long-lost daughter of some billionaire?”
“…Neither.” Zhan Yao shook her head. “The house belongs to my fiancée, and she gave me the car.”
“Your fiancée?” Cheng Yu was startled. “You mean Xu Yingxi?!”
“No,” Zhan Yao said. “I dumped her a long time ago.”
“That’s our Yaoyao. I knew you’d eventually come to your senses.” Cheng Yu nodded and looked at her with admiration. She had known for a long time that Xu Yingxi was no good. “So who is it? Tell me. Maybe I know her too.”
“But she’s incredibly generous,” Cheng Yu continued before Zhan Yao could answer. “At this point, I’d probably believe you even if you told me your fiancée was Yu Wanqiao.”
“?”
She had guessed surprisingly accurately.
Since Cheng Yu had already figured it out, Zhan Yao had no intention of hiding it.
“You guessed correctly. It really is Yu Wanqiao.”
The moment she finished speaking, Cheng Yu playfully smacked her arm.
“I was joking. Why did you take it seriously?”
“Not even an idiot would believe that,” Cheng Yu said. “If Yu Wanqiao is really your fiancée, I’ll do a handstand and bark like a puppy for you.”
“…”
Zhan Yao glanced at Cheng Yu’s skirt. “Should I lend you a pair of trousers later?”
As they spoke, the two of them arrived in the main hall.
A servant stepped forward and served them tea. To accommodate the guest’s preferences, they brought several cups at once—black tea, green tea, barley tea… There were even several types of coffee and other drinks.
“Please try them and see whether they suit your tastes, Miss Cheng,” a servant said. “If you’re dissatisfied with all of them, we’ll prepare something new.”
Cheng Yu stared in bewilderment. “How do you train the servants here?”
“I didn’t train them,” Zhan Yao replied. “They’re perceptive. They saw that you were beautiful, so they’re taking special care of you.”
“Try them. Several of the drinks are specially blended. Tell me if anything doesn’t suit your tastes, and I’ll have them continue adjusting the recipes.”
“Yes,” the servant beside them replied. “We will be sure to provide you with the very best.”
Cheng Yu had to admire anyone capable of training her girlfriend’s servants to this level.
The two of them sat in the main hall and drank tea for a while. When the time seemed right, they moved to the courtyard.
There was already a mahjong table in the entertainment room on the second floor, but the weather was pleasant today. Rather than remain cooped up indoors, it was better to absorb some of the essence of the sun and moon.
More importantly, Zhan Yao had personally commissioned this mahjong table.
Not only did she have to dress herself beautifully, but everything she ate, wore, and used also had to suit her preferences. Playing mahjong at a table like this would surely send her luck through the roof.
Since they did not have enough people, Zhan Yao randomly grabbed two servants to join them. The two claimed to have once been legendary card sharks and mahjong masters, yet after only a few rounds, they had already lost everything.
Zhan Yao won all their money.
Cheng Yu was upset by her losses and could not believe Zhan Yao was so skilled.
“Again! Again!”
“We can’t, Miss Cheng!” the servants cried miserably. “We have no money left. We truly have nothing!”
“I’ll put up the money!” Cheng Yu said. “My luck was bad just now. This time, let’s raise the stakes. If I lose again, I’ll definitely do a handstand and bark like a dog!”
No one knew why she was so obsessed with barking like a dog.
“Sure.” Zhan Yao nodded.
Since Cheng Yu wished to keep playing, Zhan Yao was naturally delighted to accompany her. After all, she genuinely had a use for the money right now.
“Until you lose everything?”
“Until I lose everything!” Cheng Yu declared.
After a long silence, she suddenly realized what she had said.
“Pah, pah, pah! There’s no way I’ll lose again!”
Despite her words, her luck remained painfully honest and did not change in the slightest because of the flag she had raised.
The sky gradually darkened.
Headlights flashed in the distance, and footsteps soon sounded behind them. Zhan Yao glanced sideways and gently curved her lips.
“You’re back?”
“Mm,” Yu Wanqiao replied.
Her gaze fell on Cheng Yu. “And this is?”
“Oh, she’s my classmate, Cheng Yu,” Zhan Yao said, meeting Cheng Yu’s shocked gaze. “Allow me to introduce you. This is my fiancée, Yu Wanqiao.”
The moment she finished speaking, Cheng Yu froze.
Because her parents frequently mentioned Yu Wanqiao, Cheng Yu did recognize her face. However, she had only ever seen her in financial news and similar reports. She had never viewed her features from such a close distance before.
For a long time, Cheng Yu did not say anything.
Zhan Yao paused. “What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.” Cheng Yu shook her head. “I’m only wondering where exactly I should do my handstand and bark like a dog later…”
