Chapter 34

Although a bath pouf was hardly enough to give someone amnesia, Zhan Yao had to admit that throwing it at her did make her feel much better.

“I’m going to shower,” she informed Yu Wanqiao.

The moment she turned around, she transformed back into her proud little peacock self and quickly returned to the bathroom.

Leaving Yu Wanqiao alone outside to pick up the bath pouf.

And find a fresh set of clothes for her.

And prepare every single skincare product she had asked for, including the face mask and body lotion.

“…”

When it came to taking care of Zhan Yao, Yu Wanqiao truly knew exactly what she was doing.

After an exhausting day, Zhan Yao finally released a comfortable sigh when the hot water washed over her body. The alcohol began taking effect again, leaving her groggy and rather sleepy.

She had barely finished drying her hair when Yu Wanqiao knocked on the door and handed her a change of clothes.

Zhan Yao opened the door just a crack and accepted the pajamas. After looking at them, she discovered they were a limited-edition summer release from a certain brand. They had been so popular that even Zhan Yao in the real world had failed to get her hands on a set.

Unexpectedly, Yu Wanqiao had one here.

And in macaron pink, no less.

This clearly was not a color Yu Wanqiao would ever wear.

Zhan Yao immediately became suspicious. Why would something like this be sitting in Yu Wanqiao’s old residence?

Surely she had not bought it for some white moonlight again.

Fortunately, it was brand-new.

Zhan Yao reluctantly put it on.

But when she opened the door again, she discovered an entire table covered in skincare products, all from the kind of brands a wealthy young heiress like her would favor. Not only were they exceptionally effective, but the packaging was luxurious and exquisite as well.

Zhan Yao could no longer hold back.

“Where did all of this come from?” she demanded.

“I prepared them for you before,” Yu Wanqiao said.

Probably noticing Zhan Yao’s displeasure, she immediately explained further.

“I bought brands I thought you might like because I considered that you might stay here overnight someday.”

That was indeed a reasonable explanation.

Zhan Yao gave her a suspicious look before turning back toward the pile of skincare products. After examining them, she confirmed that Yu Wanqiao probably was not lying.

“So you’re saying all of these are mine?” When she turned around again, Zhan Yao was visibly no longer angry. Her beautiful eyes even blinked twice, making her resemble a cunning little fox. “Am I right?”

Yu Wanqiao nodded.

“Yes.”

Zhan Yao was delighted. Suddenly, every product looked wonderful to her.

“Then thank you, Wanqiao.”

The person who had furiously thrown a bath pouf at her moments ago was Zhan Yao.

The person now smiling sweetly with curved almond-shaped eyes and thanking her was also Zhan Yao.

Faced with such extraordinary skill at changing expressions, even the system had to admit it was impressed.

Yu Wanqiao, however, seemed completely accustomed to it and merely smiled.

“I’m going to shower,” she said afterward.

“Go ahead.” Zhan Yao nodded. She had already begun studying the skincare products.

Yu Wanqiao had prepared quite a lot for her, covering practically every possible function.

Zhan Yao fussed around for ages, applying one product after another until she was fully equipped. Then she lay back on the bed like the Empress Dowager herself, drifting toward sleep.

Honestly, she no longer had much idea where she was.

Nor did she particularly care.

The bed beneath her was soft, the face mask felt comfortable, and combined with the lingering alcohol in her system, everything seemed peaceful and relaxing.

Without realizing it, she became sleepy.

Yu Wanqiao happened to emerge at that moment.

She glanced toward Zhan Yao and instinctively smiled.

“Are you sleeping here tonight, Yaoyao?” she asked softly as she walked over.

Like Zhan Yao, she had changed into loungewear as well—a pure black silk set, soft and comfortable.

The moment Zhan Yao heard her voice, she frowned and mumbled, “Don’t bother me…”

“Then I’ll help you take off the face mask,” Yu Wanqiao said gently.

Face mask.

As though she had heard a crucial keyword, Zhan Yao barely managed to lift her eyelids.

“What time is it?”

“Ten twenty.” Yu Wanqiao glanced at the time.

“Then you can’t take it off yet.” Zhan Yao covered her face with one hand and muttered unhappily, “There are still two minutes left.”

Even while half asleep, Young Miss Zhan could still remember exactly how long she had been wearing her face mask.

The smile in Yu Wanqiao’s eyes seemed to deepen.

“Then I’ll watch the time for you.”

“Mm.” Zhan Yao considered it for two seconds and decided this was acceptable. She finally lowered the hand covering her face and reminded Yu Wanqiao once more, “Make sure you remember.”

The moment she finished speaking, she fell asleep again without the slightest hesitation.

Yu Wanqiao lowered her eyes and gently touched her hand.

When Zhan Yao did not wake, she went a step further and held it tightly instead.

She opened Zhan Yao’s palm.

The cinnabar mole there was vivid and beautiful.

Yu Wanqiao lowered her head and kissed that patch of skin.

Zhan Yao remained deeply asleep, completely unaware that anything was wrong. She did not even realize how incredibly close Yu Wanqiao was to her now.

But if she had opened her eyes, she might have been able to see through the neckline of Yu Wanqiao’s loungewear to the bare skin beneath.

And perhaps… she would even have noticed that just below Yu Wanqiao’s chest was another tiny cinnabar mole.

Its shape and size were almost identical to the one in Zhan Yao’s palm.

Two minutes passed.

Just as promised, Yu Wanqiao removed Zhan Yao’s face mask and gently cleaned her face afterward.

Once she finished, she stood and looked toward the wardrobe behind her, then very naturally took out a set of bedding.

Before she could spread it on the floor, Zhan Yao suddenly murmured softly behind her.

“Wanqiao…”

“I’m here.” Thinking she needed something, Yu Wanqiao returned to the bedside and sat down. “What is it, Yaoyao?”

Zhan Yao frowned.

No one knew what she was dreaming about, but whatever it was had clearly made her furious.

“Hit him for me!”

Yu Wanqiao had probably not expected those words. She froze briefly before laughing softly.

“All right. We’ll hit him.”

Zhan Yao said nothing else.

Perhaps she had returned to the dream to continue fighting.

Despite those bold words, she actually looked very well-behaved when she slept.

Yu Wanqiao could no longer remember how long it had been since she had looked at her this carefully.

So many years had passed, and countless things had changed.

Yet her little rose was exactly the same as she remembered.

She had never changed at all.

Simply looking at her in silence was enough to put Yu Wanqiao in a good mood.

Yu Wanqiao remained there for a long time.

And precisely because she did, she did not miss what Zhan Yao said next.

She even saw Zhan Yao turn onto her side and gently press her left hand against the palm of her right hand—

the place where the cinnabar mole rested.

Then she softly called Yu Wanqiao’s name.

“Wanqiao… my hand hurts so much…”
