After Transmigrating As The Film Empress Sister’s Kept Alpha - Chapter 16
Just after lunch the following day, Shen Yishu received a message from Ji Xiangyu.
[Yu: Come to the underground parking garage in ten minutes. License plate: Jing AXXXX.]
She and Ji Xiangyu had added each other on WeChat yesterday, but since both had been busy at the time, they had not chatted.
Shen Yishu replied with a simple “Okay,” then opened Ji Xiangyu’s WeChat profile.
Her Moments background was completely black, while her profile picture was a small orange cat.
Shen Yishu enlarged the photo for a closer look.
It must have been taken many years ago. The image was not high-definition, and the individual pixels were visible upon close inspection.
The little cat appeared to be around four or five months old. Its fur was orange and white, and its round pink nose faced the camera as it stared innocently ahead, its expression frozen in the photograph.
Ji Xiangyu had restricted her Moments to posts from only the past six months, and the page was completely empty.
It suited her outward appearance perfectly—cold as ice.
The only remotely approachable thing about the profile was the cat, whose softness was entirely different from the way Ji Xiangyu presented herself.
However, Shen Yishu felt that this cat probably represented Ji Xiangyu’s true inner self.
By the time Shen Yishu reached the underground garage wearing a mask and sunglasses, Ji Xiangyu was already waiting.
She stood beside a white SUV from a brand that seemed rather modest for someone of her status.
Ji Xiangyu wore sunglasses, a simple short-sleeved shirt, and jeans as she leaned against the front of the car.
When she saw Shen Yishu emerge from the elevator, she removed her sunglasses.
In an instant, even the dim underground garage seemed brighter.
“Get in. We’ll go to the hospital first.”
Ji Xiangyu wasted no time.
She had scheduled an appointment with the doctor for three o’clock that afternoon. If traffic was light, they would barely arrive on time after driving from the outskirts into the city.
Her private doctor was extremely busy. If they missed this appointment, they would need to schedule another one.
Shen Yishu hesitated between sitting in the passenger seat or the back.
Either option made her feel as though she did not belong there.
A famous Best Actress was personally driving her around. If word got out, Ji Xiangyu’s admirers might beat her up.
“Passenger seat.”
Ji Xiangyu made the decision for her.
Shen Yishu opened the door and climbed inside.
A faint citrus fragrance drifted through the car—the scent of Ji Xiangyu’s usual perfume.
Some cars trapped odors easily, making perfume smell twice as suffocating. Perhaps because the citrus scent was naturally fresh, Shen Yishu noticed nothing unpleasant.
“Seat belt,” Ji Xiangyu reminded her.
“It’s fastened.”
Shen Yishu buckled herself in and obediently answered.
Ever since the previous night, she had become the most obedient person in the world whenever Ji Xiangyu spoke.
There was no special reason.
She simply did not want to accumulate another debt.
Ji Xiangyu took a pair of gold-rimmed glasses from the center console and put them on.
For a moment, Shen Yishu felt as though she was no longer sitting inside a car but attending a lecture given by one of her university professors.
Ji Xiangyu wore a simple white short-sleeved shirt. Her black hair was gathered behind her head, revealing her slender, pale neck.
Her forearms rested on the steering wheel, and her expression was focused.
She did not look like someone driving.
She resembled a senior executive delivering the final and most important opinion at a meeting filled with corporate elites.
“Shen Yishu.”
“Mm?”
“What are you planning to do after this drama finishes filming?”
Ji Xiangyu kept her eyes on the road.
Although she was asking a question, most of her attention remained on driving.
“I haven’t decided.”
Shen Yishu sounded somewhat melancholy.
She definitely could not return to the Shen family.
She wanted to continue acting, but without the Shen family’s financial support, and considering the character of her company, whether she could even obtain another role was uncertain.
Still, optimism made up a large part of Shen Yishu’s personality.
Things would work themselves out when the time came.
Perhaps her character in this drama would become slightly popular, and she could secure another supporting role afterward.
If that failed, beginning again as an extra would not be so bad.
Ji Xiangyu did not ask anything else.
The car entered the parking area of a private hospital.
Ji Xiangyu put on her sunglasses and mask.
When she saw Shen Yishu unfasten her seat belt and prepare to leave, she quickly grabbed her arm.
“Cover yourself.”
Shen Yishu had forgotten to bring a hat.
Ji Xiangyu went to the trunk and found a black baseball cap identical to her own.
Ten minutes later, both were fully disguised and standing inside the elevator.
Three walls of the hospital elevator were fitted with mirrors.
As soon as Shen Yishu entered, she saw both herself and Ji Xiangyu reflected around them.
There was only a two-centimeter difference in their heights.
They both wore black masks and sunglasses, along with matching black-and-white baseball caps that looked like a couple’s set.
One had tied her hair back, while the other wore hers pinned up.
They radiated such intimidating auras that they resembled a pair of black-and-white harbingers of death.
They looked surprisingly well matched.
Because they had made an appointment in advance, the private doctor had cleared the area.
The corridor was now empty apart from several nurses who stood with their heads lowered, writing something.
Ji Xiangyu had visited several times before.
Familiar with the route, she led Shen Yishu directly toward the office.
Shen Yishu followed behind, looking curiously from side to side.
Knock, knock.
Ji Xiangyu raised her hand and knocked twice.
“Come in.”
A woman’s voice came from behind the heavy wooden door.
“You’re here?”
Shen Yishu followed Ji Xiangyu inside and closed the door.
Peeking from behind Ji Xiangyu, she greeted the doctor.
“Hello.”
Shen Yishu had not expected the doctor to be exceptionally young.
She was completely different from the stern professors Shen Yishu remembered from her university hospital in her previous life.
Not only was she young, but she also appeared extremely gentle. Her smile felt like a warm spring breeze.
“Hello. My surname is Zhao.”
She looked up at Ji Xiangyu.
“Is this the little friend you mentioned?”
Ji Xiangyu gave a quiet “Mm.”
Shen Yishu became extremely curious.
First, she did not consider herself a child.
Second, she desperately wanted to know why Ji Xiangyu had referred to her as one.
Finally, she wanted to know exactly what Ji Xiangyu had said to make Doctor Zhao look at her with such a teasing expression.
“Should we catch up first, or perform the analysis?” Doctor Zhao asked.
“Do the analysis. We have something else to do later.”
Ji Xiangyu had not forgotten their important plans for the evening.
Doctor Zhao stood and retrieved a pheromone collector.
It was a device designed to gather pheromones from the air. Once the collected gas was placed inside an analyzer, it would produce their pheromone compatibility result.
Doctor Zhao held the device up until her arm began to ache, but the display still did not indicate that the collection was complete.
“…Are the two of you embarrassed because someone else is here?”
She stared speechlessly at the numbers on the screen.
After ten minutes, the collector had gathered almost no pheromones at all.
The amount was practically zero.
Shen Yishu simply stared upward with her eyes wide open.
She did not understand it either.
When they had slept together two nights earlier, their pheromones had escaped uncontrollably no matter how much they tried to suppress them.
Now, however, they resembled soaked firewood—completely and utterly extinguished.
From the corner of her eye, Shen Yishu glanced toward Ji Xiangyu.
Ji Xiangyu’s expression remained as cold and unchanged as ever.
Only the edges of her ears had turned pink—clear and delicate, the color of a ripe peach.
“There’s a private room on the left. Collect the samples yourselves.”
Doctor Zhao looked at their contrasting expressions and understood that she was an unbearably bright third wheel.
If she remained in the same room with them, the analysis would never be completed today.
“Thank you.”
Ji Xiangyu acted immediately.
She accepted the device from Doctor Zhao and walked toward the small room.
“Thank you, Doctor Zhao!”
Seeing Ji Xiangyu leave, Shen Yishu hurried after her, not forgetting to express her gratitude.
Doctor Zhao laughed softly.
One was as cold as an iceberg, while the other was an energetic little sun.
They truly did seem well suited to each other.
