After Unbinding the Simp System, I'm Targeted by the Villain - Chapter 57
Duan Huaijin looked down at Yu Chucheng, brushing away the stray hairs on his forehead to test his temperature with his hand.
His forehead was burning, but it wasn’t a fever; it was a heat that could no longer be suppressed.
Yu Chucheng gritted his teeth in distress, refusing to let any strange sounds escape. The gazes of the onlookers outside filled him with an unprecedented sense of dread.
Duan Huaijin took off his jacket and wrapped it tightly around Yu Chucheng.
Yu Chucheng looked down; the jacket radiated a clean scent of soap and the chill it had carried in from outside. It was pleasant and a bit long, completely covering his fingers.
But Yu Chucheng was burning up now; he wanted nothing more than to tear off all his clothes and soak in ice water. The moment the clothes enveloped him, his brow furrowed, and his flushed eyes silently voiced his dissatisfaction.
Duan Huaijin adjusted the collar with a heavy gaze, tucking the fabric under Yu Chucheng’s chin. “Don’t move. You’ll feel better soon.”
The Alpha who had been kneeling finally confirmed that his “manhood” was safe. He shifted, reaching out to grab the phone that had fallen aside during the struggle.
Snap!
Duan Huaijin kicked the phone away. “Ji Zhou.”
Ji Zhou, who had nearly developed a heart condition from the fright, was suddenly called by name and instinctively blurted out, “Present!”
“Check his phone to see if he recorded anything. If he did, delete it all.” Duan Huaijin blocked the crowd’s view and led Yu Chucheng toward the exit. “Also, stay here and watch these two until the police arrive. I’m taking Yu Chucheng back now.”
“Oh, okay.” Ji Zhou didn’t know why he was following Duan Huaijin’s orders. Logically, he had known Yu Chucheng longer; if anyone was taking him back, it should be him.
But he inexplicably complied. It felt just like when Yu Jingchen would command him and Yu Chucheng to complete a task—it made him want to obey in a daze.
Duan Huaijin took Yu Chucheng straight back to the apartment. He didn’t even need Yu Chucheng to open the door; he had the spare key from last time on him.
Once away from the bar, Yu Chucheng’s high-strung nerves finally relaxed. Duan Huaijin’s pheromones seemed to have a magical power, slowly smoothing over his internal agitation and unease.
However, the more he smelled, the more he felt it wasn’t enough. The desire in his heart clamored, egging him on to tackle the man or tear his collar open to let more pheromones out.
In a daze, Yu Chucheng heard Duan Huaijin’s raspy voice ask, “Where are the suppressants?”
Yu Chucheng’s thoughts were easily led away by Duan Huaijin. He lifted a finger toward the nightstand. “There…”
Duan Huaijin immediately pulled away to get them.
Yu Chucheng, who had been sitting on the sofa, felt the only person who could bring him solace leaving. He reached out anxiously, trying to grab the man’s clothes. But his vision was out of focus; he couldn’t accurately measure the distance, and his reactions were much slower than usual.
Duan Huaijin was already three meters away by the time his arm went up. Consequently, he grabbed thin air and tumbled forward onto the living room carpet.
“Where are you going…” Yu Chucheng struggled to prop up his upper body, murmuring to himself.
Duan Huaijin turned back to see the person who had been sitting safely on the sofa now sprawled on the floor with disheveled clothes.
The living room carpet was dark brown and fluffy, comfortable to the touch. They hadn’t turned on the lights yet, so the apartment was shrouded in darkness, with only moonlight spilling in through the uncurtained windows. At this moment, it made Yu Chucheng’s skin look as white as a pearl.
Duan Huaijin took a deep breath. “Extend your arm.”
Yu Chucheng saw the suppressant in Duan Huaijin’s hand, and a string of question marks popped up over his head. “Why won’t you bite me? A bite is clearly much more effective than a suppressant…”
Duan Huaijin’s pulse throbbed at his temples. “You’re drunk. You don’t know what you’re saying.”
“I’m not drunk.” Yu Chucheng threw off the jacket, holding up his fingers. “Look, this is one, this is two…”
“…”
He’s definitely drunk. Very drunk.
Duan Huaijin attempted to reason with him. “If you accept too many temporary marks, you’ll have to get the marks surgically cleaned if you want to accept another Alpha in the future. Even though technology is advanced enough to make it painless, it’s still a surgery. Do you really think there’s zero impact?”
Yu Chucheng blinked dizzily, his breath trembling. “I… I know.”
Duan Huaijin looked at him and said firmly, “No, you don’t. You’re still young.”
“How am I young?!” This sentence triggered Yu Chucheng; he immediately stiffened his neck to retort. “Have you seen it or touched it?”
Duan Huaijin fell silent again. Looking at the Yu Chucheng who had zero defenses against him, Duan Huaijin tucked away his unnamable thoughts. His only goal now was to never let Yu Chucheng get drunk again.
Other people looked hideous when they were drunk; Yu Chucheng, on the other hand, was just remarkably “outspoken.”
“I was talking about your age.” Under Yu Chucheng’s protesting gaze, Duan Huaijin rolled up his sleeve, uncapped the suppressant, and gently pushed it into the vein.
Yu Chucheng struggled slightly but couldn’t move. “You’re not that much older than me.”
Duan Huaijin didn’t comment; he was actually reaching his own limit of endurance.
Not long after the injection, the pheromones in the room faded slightly. But Yu Chucheng was still uncomfortable. Just as his hand reached up to scratch his nape, Duan Huaijin intercepted it mid-way.
“Don’t scratch.”
Yu Chucheng’s eyes were watery, and his voice held a hint of grievance. “But it itches.”
Duan Huaijin knelt on one knee beside him, his cool hand stroking the burning nape. The skin over the gland was smooth, delicate, and soft. As the most sensitive spot on an Omega’s body, being touched unexpectedly made Yu Chucheng shiver, instinctively wanting to pull away.
But as Duan Huaijin’s hand rubbed with moderate pressure, he immediately felt as if his lifeblood had been seized.
“Is that better?” Duan Huaijin asked in his ear.
Yu Chucheng was scorched by the staggering heat of Duan Huaijin’s breath. He grabbed the man’s wrist, stuttering and not daring to look up. “Y-yes, that’s enough.”
* * *
At 1:00 AM, Duan Huaijin emerged from the bathroom in Yu Chucheng’s apartment. Wearing only a single layer, he stood on the small balcony to let the wind dry his hair.
Yu Chucheng had fallen asleep shortly after the suppressant. Duan Huaijin had placed him on the bed, intending to leave, but Yu Chucheng had tossed and turned restlessly as he turned to go.
To be honest, Duan Huaijin wasn’t sure how long the suppressant would last, nor if Yu Chucheng would flare up again in the middle of the night. So, he changed his mind and stayed to watch over him.
However, this night felt much longer than he’d imagined. After sitting on the sofa for a long time, he finally took a cold shower to calm down.
Flick!
Duan Huaijin pulled out a cigarette and lit it. When he opened his phone, the top industry news was the forced termination of the Zhang Group and Jiancheng Industry resort project just one day before groundbreaking.
He narrowed his eyes against the night wind. This project was Zhang Hanzhou’s. He knew Zhang Hanzhou would soon discover the anonymous whistleblower was him, but he hadn’t intended to hide it from the start. He just wanted to increase the difficulty for Zhang Hanzhou, to give him a little sense of accomplishment first.
This was the first “gift” he’d sent to Zhang Hanzhou; he looked forward to seeing the “surprise” on his face.
Duan Huaijin took a deep drag of the cigarette. The nicotine helped quiet the restless pheromones that had been agitated since he entered the apartment.
A notification from a ticket booking app popped up on his screen; he swiped his thumb to ignore it.
Today, he was supposed to go to Luocheng to find a very important person. When he received Yu Chucheng’s message, he was already on his way to the station.
But…
Duan Huaijin, cigarette between his fingers, looked back toward the bedroom.
It seemed it wouldn’t be convenient lately. He’d have to find another time to go.
