The Cannon Fodder Female Supporting Character Alpha Decides to Go On Strike (GL) - Chapter 21
They successfully arrived at their destination, an island renowned for its warm atmosphere and unique scenery, that evening.
The foreign night was not suitable for playing outside, so the two had a local specialty dinner at the booked hotel and returned to their room to rest.
When Su Li came out after showering and drying her hair, she saw Shen Mo sitting on the edge of the bed, gazing out at the churning black sea.
She walked over and noticed that from Shen Mo’s position, she could see a solitary lighthouse in the distance—it stood on the sea horizon, its flashing warm yellow light the only signal of its existence.
At one point, Su Li suddenly felt that Shen Mo, looking out at the lighthouse, was equally lonely.
Sensing her approach, Shen Mo turned to look at her.
She said: “I came here two years ago.”
“Did you?” Su Li asked, “Do you like this small island?”
“I wouldn’t say I like or dislike it.” Shen Mo sat on the bed with her legs together, her expression relaxed. “I came for a business trip back then and left after just one day.”
“Then we must explore it properly this time,” Su Li sat down next to her.
She was reviewing their honeymoon itinerary when she suddenly heard Shen Mo ask: “What is the difference between a holiday and a business trip?”
Su Li thought for a moment and offered her perspective: “A business trip is for the company, but a honeymoon is for us. The meaning is completely different.”
Shen Mo quietly “Mhm’d,” looking down at her rounded toes.
The room only had one large bed. That night, the two slept side-by-side.
Around midnight, the wind howled. Su Li, being a light sleeper, woke up, got up to close the window, sealing out the noise and the chill.
Returning to the bedside, she could just make out Shen Mo’s sleeping face in the moonlight.
Shen Mo in the moonlight looked even more ethereal and captivating. Even without seeing her usual bright, star-like eyes, her beautiful features were still moving.
Shen Mo was such an excellent person, with outstanding looks, an impressive family background, and talent that surpassed her own professional achievements.
Su Li stood rooted to the spot, an inexplicable sense of inferiority rising within her.
Although she never fully acknowledged her inner thoughts, she knew very well that she felt somewhat insecure facing Shen Mo. Even now, she found it hard to believe that Shen Mo would choose to marry her.
After a long while, Su Li returned to bed. She wasn’t particularly sleepy, so she closed her eyes and forced herself to fall asleep.
She didn’t know how much time had passed, but she felt Shen Mo leaning towards her from the other side.
As if by some innate reliance, Shen Mo naturally draped her arm around Su Li’s waist, rested her head on her shoulder, and nestled comfortably in her embrace.
Su Li’s stiff body slowly relaxed. In the end, she found herself holding Shen Mo, and at some point, she too drifted off to sleep.
The next day.
Su Li could feel Shen Mo still resting on her arm.
She kept her eyes closed, planning to pretend to be awake only after Shen Mo woke up and moved away, to avoid unnecessary awkwardness.
But soon, she felt something was off—Shen Mo, nestled in her arms, occasionally made small movements, which was definitely not the state of someone deep in sleep.
She secretly opened her eyes and glanced down, meeting Shen Mo’s gaze at the exact same moment.
Shen Mo greeted her naturally: “Morning.”
“Morning…” Su Li lay rigid, not daring to move.
Her phone wasn’t nearby. She looked out the window and saw the hazy morning light.
Shen Mo, one arm wrapped around her waist, yawned contentedly.
She remained silent, but Su Li felt uncomfortable.
After a thought, she reminded her: “We have diving and sightseeing scheduled today. Leaving early will help us avoid the midday sun.”
Shen Mo quietly “Mhm’d” while lying in her arms, showing no sign of getting up.
“What’s wrong?” Su Li was a little puzzled. “Do you want to sleep a bit longer?”
“…I don’t want to go out.” Shen Mo tightened her arm around Su Li’s waist, lazily rubbing her cheek against Su Li’s collarbone.
Then, she looked up at Su Li: “Can we just stay in the room?”
“Stay in?” Su Li was completely bewildered. “Do you mean for the whole week of the honeymoon?”
Shen Mo didn’t speak, staring fixedly at her with her brilliant eyes.
Su Li frowned slightly: “…”
She couldn’t grasp Shen Mo’s thoughts, only sensing that the other person seemed to be seriously considering the idea.
But spending the entire honeymoon indoors…
Why did they fly here for hours then?
After about half a minute, Shen Mo slowly sat up.
She left Su Li’s embrace, turned her back to her, swept back her long hair, and lightly tossed out a sentence against the light: “Forget it.”
Su Li slightly raised her upper body: “Huh?”
Shen Mo glanced back at her, threw off the blanket, and said: “Let’s go out.”
With that, she got out of bed, her bare feet stepping onto the dark wooden floor of the tropical room. Her beige shirt revealed a pair of long, white, and straight legs.
Su Li glanced at them and quickly lowered her head, her face feeling warm.
An hour later, the two arrived at the beach.
Z Island’s natural scenery was famous. Su Li had booked the most expensive diving package, and the blonde, blue-eyed female instructor immediately smiled warmly when she saw them.
With the instructor’s help, the two put on professional diving gear. After a brief lesson on diving techniques, they were guided into the water to explore the underwater natural scenery.
The feeling was very unique. Underwater, everything seemed to be slowed down to 0.5x speed. Movement was sluggish and somewhat comical.
Su Li, with her high athletic talent, quickly adapted. Just as she felt she had the hang of it, she looked up and saw Shen Mo still floating blankly in place.
She swam over and waved at her.
Shen Mo subconsciously reached out her hand to her.
Su Li smiled, took her hand, and pulled her down, guiding her toward the magnificent coral reefs.
A school of brightly colored small fish swam among the coral, immediately catching Shen Mo’s attention. She hovered nearby, admiring them intently, and even reached out to try and touch them.
On the other side, Su Li found a shell with an unusual pattern. She excitedly held it in her palm, wanting to invite Shen Mo to appreciate it, but despite several silent attempts, she couldn’t draw her attention.
The leisurely small fish in the coral suddenly became an eyesore. Su Li kicked her feet, forcefully squeezing in between Shen Mo and the coral.
Shen Mo was startled, looking at her with surprise through her waterproof mask.
She couldn’t speak underwater, so she silently conveyed her confusion with her eyes.
Su Li saw her own reflection in Shen Mo’s transparent mask.
She suddenly decided she didn’t want anything else diverting Shen Mo’s attention. She secretly tossed the shell aside, grabbed Shen Mo’s hand, and led her floating around the area.
Shen Mo’s expression was innocent, completely unaware of Su Li’s petty actions. She coordinated her leg movements with Su Li’s rhythm, graceful like a little mermaid making her first appearance in the shallow sea.
The diving session ended. Near noon, the two returned to the shore.
After shedding the heavy gear, the two, still in their tight diving suits, went to the shadow of a rock outcrop.
Shen Mo’s swimming cap hadn’t been sealed properly before entering the water, and her hair was wet and tangled. Su Li saw this, walked over, and proactively offered: “I’ll help you.”
Shen Mo glanced at her, nodded, and said “Thank you.”
A young couple was resting nearby. The girl saw Su Li’s action and eagerly nudged her boyfriend: “Honey, dry the back of my hair. It’s sticky and uncomfortable.”
The boyfriend lay lazily on the ground: “Can’t you do it yourself?”
“It’s on my back, how can I reach it?” The girl pouted and whined.
“Then how does your hair dry when you’re at home?” The boyfriend crossed his legs, still only moving his mouth: “It’s different here?”
The girl glared at him resentfully.
She finally couldn’t help but kick the boy: “Look at other people, and then look at yourself.” She looked at Su Li enviously: “I didn’t even ask you to be like her! Is that how a lover is supposed to act?”
“Why are you always looking at others?” The boy propped up his upper body.
He also glanced at Su Li and Shen Mo, then muttered disdainfully: “Those two clearly look like they’re in the throes of a new romance. Our situation is different. When you’re in the throes of love, everything looks good, right?”
The girl frowned. She felt something was wrong but didn’t know how to argue back.
The man got energized and continued lecturing: “Let me tell you, that state won’t last long. It’ll be back to normal in a month at most. After that, things will be the same as always.”
“Stop being difficult. Our relationship has lasted longer, unlike people like them.”
The girl reluctantly nodded: “True, we’re almost married.” Suddenly, she sighed: “Is everyone like this? I can’t imagine what the future will be like…”
“Oh, you worry too much.” The man impatiently tossed her a dry towel. “Just wipe yourself off. Be careful not to catch a cold.”
The girl pulled the towel over her head.
Su Li had finished smoothing Shen Mo’s hair and had even casually braided it into a fishtail braid. Now, Shen Mo’s entire head of dark hair was neatly coiled at the back of her head.
She had heard the couple talking earlier but hadn’t bothered to respond since her hands were busy.
Now, ready to leave with Shen Mo, she deliberately raised her voice and asked: “Where is your ring?”
Shen Mo looked up at her, instantly understanding the hint.
She found the shimmering silver diamond ring from her tight protective pouch: “I was afraid of damaging it while diving, so I put it away.”
Su Li took the ring, held her hand, and solemnly helped her put it back on.
Finally, she squeezed Shen Mo’s palm with satisfaction and smiled: “There you go.”
In the shade, the girl watched them thoughtfully.
Su Li said: “True love won’t be eroded by time. If he only uses excuses to fob you off, it only proves he doesn’t truly care about you.”
The man angrily threw a handful of sand toward her: “Who are you talking about?”
“I didn’t name anyone,” Su Li glanced at him disdainfully. “Are you that eager to admit it?”
“You…” The man’s face quickly turned red.
Su Li scoffed, not bothering to engage with this kind of person any further. She turned and protected Shen Mo as they left together.
Behind them, the man’s resentful gaze closely followed them until they were out of sight before he grudgingly withdrew it.
