Chapter 40.2
Furthermore, there were those two Omegas, Hao Ya and Cai Xinrou… who dragged Luo Yan down because of her… she was just thinking that her dating Luo Yan had already caused her so much trouble, and she didn’t want to affect her life further.
Besides, Luo Yan’s public image was gradually improving; based on her two speeches, she had the immense strength to overturn the negative things she had deliberately created before. So, everything was heading in a good direction; why should she cause more trouble? Once everything was stable and she had dealt with the people who needed to be dealt with, she would go public with their relationship, which would truly give Luo Yan a boost.
…She hadn’t expected her to care so much. It was also her fault for being inconsiderate.
Alphas… should all place great importance on such things, right?
“Mhm, I understand. I was indeed too narrow-minded—”
However, before she could finish, her lips were covered. The Omega’s scent was suddenly extremely close. Luo Yan widened her eyes and instinctively leaned back, greatly surprised.
“Don’t say anymore. I am the one who is sorry.” Xue Wu’s charming cat-like eyes seemed to glisten with tears, looking very remorseful, which made Luo Yan lose herself for a moment.
Then she saw the Omega in front of her move even closer, slowly lower her head, and press a kiss to her own hand, which was covering Luo Yan’s lips.
“Thump-thump—”
She… she was actually kissing her through her hand! This… this was simply foul play!
Luo Yan’s whole body was tense, and her pheromones were nearly bursting out from her gland. Her heart hammered unfaithfully. Even though her lips hadn’t actually touched her, she still felt as if her lips had been captured and kissed wantonly, emitting a burning heat.
—She was completely set on fire by this sudden, compassionate, and remorseful “indirect kiss.”
“You… you really are…” Luo Yan’s eyes were red. She couldn’t get a sentence out for a long time and could only stare at her in frustration.
“I really am what?”
“You… you really lack sportsmanship!” How was she supposed to stay angry and stay away from her if she kept doing this?!
“But I simply couldn’t help it.” Xue Wu’s eyes still held glistening lights, but there was a smile on her face, making her appear fragrant, soft, and lush—like a siren wandering in the dark, making one willing to fall into her trap.
“…Couldn’t help but drag me down with you, right?”
“You clearly like it too.” She glanced at her, noticing the base of her neck had turned red.
“…Simply unreasonable!” Was this liking it?! This was being startled! she was almost scared to death!
“Go to sleep; I’ll watch over you here.” Xue Wu didn’t want her to waste too much time and urged her to sleep now.
“…I can only sleep peacefully if you leave.” Luo Yan felt conflicted. She made it sound so easy, but how was she supposed to sleep after that?
“Why? Afraid I have designs on you?”
“…Didn’t you just act on them?”
“Then I can do it a few more times—”
However, her voice cut off abruptly, as if she realized she had said something she shouldn’t have.
Luo Yan: “…”
She didn’t want to say anything to her and secretly scolded herself for being so unfaithful. Her face was heating up again; she was clearly just coaxing her.
“Yanyan, the doctor said I could have been discharged tomorrow, but some things happened tonight, so it’ll likely be delayed for a few days.”
“…” Luo Yan restrained herself under the covers and didn’t scold her for the things she did today.
“That way, I can stay here with you for a few more days.”
“…” Hearing her somewhat cheerful tone made her a bit angry. Who wants you to stay!
“Alright, I’m done. I’ll leave once you fall asleep.”
“…” Luo Yan felt she was about to turn into a pufferfish with anger.
Clutching her palms, she simply couldn’t fall asleep.
The Omega sat in the chair for a while. Seemingly sensing the resentment radiating from her under the quilt, she stood up from the chair with a bit of a laugh and hugged her through the quilt. Luo Yan could even feel her light kiss falling on the top of her head. She… she had played foul and stolen a kiss again!
“Alright, don’t be angry anymore. Can I leave now?”
She spoke with a bit of reluctance as she let go of her and walked toward the door.
Luo Yan stayed under the quilt and didn’t come out. She began to feel that her attempt to draw a line between them… would fall apart before long because she simply couldn’t let go of her.
The big villain… was truly persistent.
…
The next day. In Xue Wu’s ward.
Chen Jia knew she was close to being discharged. Although her relationship with Luo Yan still seemed bad, she dutifully told her about recent work arrangements and discussed work matters with her.
She wasn’t sure if it was her imagination, but she felt her boss’s complexion had improved quite a bit. Could it be… that her relationship with Miss Luo had improved? If so, that was for the best.
“Sister Wu, about the suggestion to be a guest mentor for that talent show… are we going to do it?”
“I’ve already agreed to participate in that talent show,” Xue Wu replied while eating breakfast.
She had actually been discussing work with Lin Ling these past few days, but she hadn’t been in much of a mood because of what happened yesterday.
However, she had already agreed to Zhong Ting’s request to be a guest mentor. She hadn’t really wanted to go, but once Lin Ling mentioned that Chen Zitian from their former group would also be a mentor there, she felt that it wasn’t that revenge wouldn’t be taken, but that the time hadn’t come yet.
Chen Zitian… had done too many bad things to her in her previous life, and quite a few in this one too. Previously she had only brought down Ruan Zhao and Wang Huina, but the true culprit, Chen Zitian, hadn’t been held accountable. Xue Wu naturally knew she couldn’t let it go.
But her memory was indeed fragmented. She only remembered being drugged by Chen Zitian and sent to Ruan Zhao’s bed, which she had anticipated since it happened in her previous life. An Alpha like Ruan Zhao had toyed with countless Omegas and “unspoken-ruled” countless actors; how could she ever give in to him?
In her previous life, she had done everything she could to escape that dim room. After escaping, the gland on the back of her neck became increasingly fragile because of it, and her pheromone disorder grew worse, to the point where… even after finding a way to take revenge on those people, she couldn’t escape a tragic death.
Since she had a second chance in this life, she simply played along, allowing Chen Zitian to drug her and send her to the club room Ruan Zhao had booked, then waited for the chance to gather evidence and send her in. But… she seemed to have forgotten some of the memories of what happened next; she only confirmed that Ruan Zhao had been sent in after searching the news later.
Clearly, she had not only sent him in personally, but he was also in for a long time, which made her breathe a sigh of relief.
She remembered Wang Huina’s situation very clearly; she had used a recording to threaten her into terminating her contract. Although Wang Huina later signed her incompetent adoptive sister, that was Wang Huina’s business; she wouldn’t show much sympathy.
However, she hadn’t settled the score with Chen Zitian yet. This was the perfect chance to ruin her reputation and show her that even in the entertainment industry, having a strong background doesn’t mean you can be lawless.
So she finally agreed to Lin Ling’s request to go on the show.
But it hadn’t been officially announced yet; she would be taking promotional photos in a few days.
Xue Wu’s Weibo had been exploding these days, especially after people found out why she had a car accident. Xin Jingchun’s Weibo was being insulted to the point where she almost had to delete her account and leave the platform.
Xin Jingchun herself thought her sister would get her out quickly, but she hadn’t expected to wait nearly half a month without anyone coming to see her, except for her one foolish little assistant whose presence only made her angry.
In the Alpha-specific detention center, even with a good mindset, Xin Jingchun looked a mess, and her mental state wasn’t great either: “Where’s my sister? Why hasn’t she come to bail me out yet?”
“Second Miss… you can’t be bailed out in this situation,” the assistant said with difficulty, bringing her some fruit and other food.
Xin Jingchun wanted to lose her temper hearing this but held back: “Then you should find a way through my sister!”
It had to be said that Xin Jingchun truly trusted her sister. Even though they were half-sisters, she had been raised by her sister, who also held 40% of the Xin family’s shares and was a major shareholder. She didn’t believe her Omega sister would ignore her.
“I tried… but the Eldest Miss wouldn’t see me.” The assistant was also sad as she spoke. “So, Second Miss, what can I do?”
“Why wouldn’t my sister see you?”
“She seems to have had an accident and has been hospitalized. I simply can’t get near her.”
“She hasn’t been sick once in years; how could something happen?” Xin Jingchun didn’t believe it, but a sense of crisis inexplicably rose in her heart: ” I don’t care. Go find my sister again today and ask for help. If she won’t help, then find me a lawyer!”
“Then… Second Miss, before I do those things, could you settle my salary for the past two months first?” The assistant couldn’t help but ask boldly.
She didn’t really want to say it, but she couldn’t keep working for Xin Jingchun for free. If she wouldn’t pay her, she would have to… have to…
“Second Miss, why are you looking at me like that?” The assistant was also nervous: “I’m truly at my wits’ end, which is why I’m telling you this. If you won’t pay, then I… I can only…”
“You can only what?” Xin Jingchun was completely stunned. This normally insignificant assistant was actually asking her for her salary; was she bored and looking for trouble?
She glared at her fiercely, waiting to see what else she could say.
“I can only apply for labor arbitration and report you!” The assistant was indeed terrified, but Xin Jingchun’s pheromones were completely suppressed in here. Right now she was like a toothless cat. The assistant was afraid of her, but not that afraid, and being broke was simply too painful. If she didn’t speak up now, she’d never have the chance.
So she spoke up boldly.
“Huh? You’d go through legal channels? Talking about the law in front of me, are you? I’ll strangle you first!”
Xin Jingchun never expected a lowly assistant would dare to shout in front of her. She was driven mad with rage and prepared to give her a lesson regardless of the consequences.
But before she could act, a guard came out and stopped her: “What are you doing? What do you think this place is? Throwing a tantrum as you please?”
“Get lost! If I don’t teach her a lesson today, my name isn’t… Hmph—”
Before she could finish, the guard hit the side of her neck with a club, knocking her out and completely preventing any possibility of trouble.
The assistant was terrified by the scene and knew it was impossible to get what belonged to her from such a bastard Alpha, so she left despondently.
Although Xin Jingqiong wasn’t paying much attention to her sister’s situation, she would know immediately if anything happened.
Hearing her assistant’s report, she found it laughable: “Still hasn’t improved.”
“Eldest Miss, are we really going to leave the Second Miss to her own devices?” The assistant found it absurd that Xin Jingchun was actually withholding a small assistant’s salary. What was all this?
“Otherwise?” Xin Jingqiong’s health had improved these past few days, and she could be discharged today.
In fact, she didn’t have much time to stay in the hospital. The mess Xin Jingchun had created wouldn’t be so easy to settle. Her drunk driving and injuring someone had already caused many people to be repulsed by her; the stock price had plummeted and almost hit the limit.
As the actual person in charge of the company, she naturally had to find ways to stop the situation from worsening.
So, she certainly wouldn’t bail her out. Second, she had to apologize to Xue Wu, and also resolve the issue with the assistant. After all, she was an employee of their group; if the woman were pushed to the edge and caused more scandals, she would feel ashamed.
“The matter with Xin Jingchun… isn’t over,” Xin Jingqiong said after some thought. “She has 40% of the shares. Find a chance to take them back.”
“Eldest Miss… but this is…”
“But what?”
Xin Jingqiong had already finished dressing. She was wearing a full suit, looking capable and mature, her whole being radiating an intellectual aura that made people instinctively want to submit.
She gave her assistant a light glance. Although it didn’t seem intimidating, it still gave the assistant a massive amount of pressure, making him not dare to say another word.
“Find a time to contact that assistant and handle things neatly. Give her what she’s owed; don’t let this matter blow up…”
“Miss Xue, I don’t need this breakfast. Take it back.”
As Xin Jingqiong finished speaking, she heard Luo Yan’s voice from behind. For some reason, her whole nervous system tightened up.
The conversation behind her continued. She only heard another girl’s voice: “Why don’t you need it? You clearly haven’t eaten. The breakfast from this shop is very good; you have to book days in advance to get it.” Her voice held a tone of gentle coaxing. Although the Alpha’s tone sounded troubled and distressed, to Xin Jingqiong’s ears, it just sounded like they were flirting, which was an eyesore.
“I ate,” Luo Yan said with a stern face. She saw a large breakfast on her ward table first thing in the morning and knew it was from Xue Wu. She returned the breakfast to her almost without thinking.
She hadn’t expected her to be going for a checkup on another floor in her hospital gown. She saw her at the door and returned the breakfast, which she naturally refused. She had followed her here foolishly holding the large bag of breakfast.
Thinking back, she was also foolish. If she didn’t want it, she could have just left the breakfast in her ward! Now look, she was in a real predicament!
Xue Wu didn’t speak but moved closer and stared at her for a while, making Luo Yan want to step back, but she held her ground.
She wanted to see what kind of bold move she would make.
“But your stomach is telling me you haven’t eaten.” Xue Wu spoke as she looked at her with concern.
“…You’re just being unreasonable and talking nonsense.” Luo Yan felt her heart hammer under her gaze and her words. It was just a random remark, yet her emotions actually fluctuated; it really shouldn’t be like this.
“Well, if you’re not hungry now, maybe you’ll be hungry if you accompany me for a checkup?” Xue Wu looked at her seriously and offered a suggestion.
“…I told you I ate.” Luo Yan still stuck to her story. However—
“Growl~ growl—”
As soon as she spoke, her stomach unfaithfully growled out loud, as if feeling aggrieved—it clearly hadn’t eaten yet she insisted it had, so it was going on strike!
Luo Yan: “…” Her face truly turned red. Don’t ask how!
Xue Wu was silent for a moment, then finally couldn’t help but laugh out loud: “Can Yanyan eat breakfast before continuing to be angry with me?”
“Or… do I have to feed you myself for you to stop being angry? I’ll do whatever you want.”
Luo Yan: “…” She was about to explode with anger! She felt like there was a valve like a pressure cooker on top of her head that had been pulled and was starting to vent. She couldn’t win the argument, and before she completely lost her composure, she turned around with the bag of breakfast and a face that was likely too red to look at, and fled at top speed!
Xin Jingqiong watched everything quietly from the side, her mood complex: what kind of new way to “show off affection” (spread dog food) was this? It was quite cruel to bystanders.
